1Research progress of heavy metal pollution in China:Sources,analytical methods,status,and toxicity显示文摘Heavy metal pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems in China and a large number of people are threatened by heavy metal pollution.Extensive damage to human organs,such as liver,kidney,digestion system,and nervous system can be caused by uptake of excess heavy metals.Heavy metals in the environment can originate from both natural and anthropogenic sources.Although contamination of heavy metals has been known to be a severe environmental problem for decades,it is still getting worse in recent years and there are few feasible approaches to resolve this problem.Due to their high toxicity,prevalent existence and persistence in the environment,lead(Pb),mercury(Hg),cadmium(Cd),chromium(Cr) and arsenic(As) are commonly considered as the priority heavy metals which should be concerned and their emission should be controlled in China.This paper reviewed the pollution of heavy metals in China,focusing on the following four aspects:current status of heavy metal pollution in China,sources of heavy metals in China,toxicity and potential risk,and possible reduction strategies.HE Bin YUN ZhaoJun SHI JianBo JIANG GuiBin 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,2:114

4Fluorescent nanoparticles for chemical and biological sensing显示文摘Fluorescent nanoparticles (NPs), including quantum dots (QDs), dye-doped NPs, and rare earth-based NPs, etc., have been a major focus of research and development during the past decade. The impetus behind such endeavors can be attributed to their unique chemical and optical properties, such as bright fluorescence, high photostability, large Stocks shift and flexible processability. The introduction of fluorescent NPs into analytical chemistry has opened up new venues for fluorescent analysis. In this review, we focus on the developments and analytical applications of fluorescent NPs in the chemical and biological sensing of pH, ions, organic compounds, small biological molecules, nucleic acids, proteins, virus and bacteria. The review also points out the in vitro and in vivo imaging application of fluorescent NPs at the cell and body levels. 5Effect of polymer solution structure on displacement efficiency显示文摘In this paper, a series of experiments, including atomic force microscope (AFM), environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM), and core displacement tests were conducted to investigate the effect of polymer solution structure on solution properties and oil displacement efficiency. The results show that in the HPAM solution polymer coils were formed and then aggregated into a loose structure, while the HAP2010 solution formed a strong network structure, which would significantly improve the solution viscosity and flow resistance so as to upgrade the capacity of piston-like oil displacement in highly permeable porous media. Meanwhile, the retention of the HAP2010 solution at pore throats were also enhanced, which could reduce water production during subsequent water flooding and enlarge the swept volume during polymer flooding. 6Heavy metals in maternal and cord blood in Beijing and their efficiency of placental transfer显示文摘This study aimed to determine the effect of exposure to heavy metals in pregnant women in Beijing, China. We also evaluated the association of these heavy metals with birth weight and length of newborns. We measured the levels of 10 heavy metals,including lead(Pb), titanium(Ti), manganese(Mn), nickel(Ni), cadmium(Cd), chromium(Cr), antimony(Sb), stannum(Sn), vanadium(V), and arsenic(As), in 156 maternal and cord blood pairs. An inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry method was used for measurement. Pb, As, Ti, Mn, and Sb showed high detection rates(> 50%) in both maternal and cord blood. Fourteen(9%) mothers had blood Pb levels greater than the United States Center for Disease Control allowable threshold limit for children(50 μg/L).In prenatal exposure to these heavy metals, there was no significant association between any heavy metal and birth weight/length. Moreover, we estimated the placental transfer efficiency of each heavy metal, and the median placental transfer efficiency ranged from 49.6%(Ni) to 194%(Mn)(except for Cd and Sn). The level and detection rate of Cd in maternal blood were much higher than that in cord blood, which suggested that Cd had difficulty in passing the placental barrier. 7Organotin compounds in surface sediments from selected fishing ports along the Chinese coast显示文摘The concentrations and species of organotin compounds(OTCs) in 52 surface sediment samples from nine fishing ports along the Chinese coast were studied.Butyltins(BTs) and phenyltins(PhTs) were derivatized using sodium tetraethylborate(NaBEt 4) and determined by head-space solid-phase microextraction(HS-SPME) gas chromatography coupled with a flame photometric detector(GC-FPD).The concentrations of OTCs ranged from <3.6 to 194 ng(Sn) g-1 dry weight(dw) for monobutyltin(MBT),<2.3 to 41.5 ng(Sn) g-1 dw for dibutyltin(DBT),<0.7 to 86.0 ng(Sn) g-1 dw for tributyltin(TBT) and <5.1 to 66.1 ng(Sn) g-1 dw for monophenyltin(MPhT),respectively.The concentrations of diphenyltin(DPhT) and triphenyltin(TPhT) were below the limit of detection(LOD).BTs were the main species in the sediments except for the samples collected from Shazikou fishing port in Qingdao.The concentrations of MBT were higher than DBT and TBT.The concentrations of OTCs in the sediments varied widely among different sampling locations.The concentrations of BTs were much higher in the samples collected from fishing ports close to the South China Sea than those in coast of the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea.MPhT was prevalent in most sampling stations except for those in coast of the East China Sea.The environmental and ecotoxicological risks of TBT in most sediment samples were low.ZHANG KeGang SHI JianBo HE Bin XU WeiHai LI XiangDong JIANG GuiBin 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,2:7
8Ab initio prediction of borophene as an extraordinary anode material exhibiting ultrafast directional sodium diffusion for sodium-based batteries显示文摘Density functional theory calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations are performed to study the feasibility of using borophene, a newly synthesized two-dimensional sheet of boron, as an anode material for sodium-ion and sodium–oxygen batteries. The theoretical capacity of borophene is found to be as high as1,218 m Ah g–1(Na0.5B). More importantly, it is demonstrated that the sodium diffusion energy barrier along the valley direction is as low as 0.0019 e V, which corresponds to a diffusivity of more than a thousand times higher than that of conventional anode materials such as Na2Ti3O7 and Na3Sb. Hence, the use of borophene will revolutionize the rate capability of sodium-based batteries. Moreover, it is predicted that, during the sodiation process, the average open-circuit voltage is 0.53 V, which can effectively suppress the formation of dendrites while maximizing the energy density. 9A statistical approach to fit Gaussian part of full-energy peaks from Si(PIN) and SDD X-ray spectrometers显示文摘A new statistical fitting approach,named Statistical Distribution-Based Analytic(SDA)method,is proposed to fit single Gaussian-shaped Kαand KβX-ray peaks recorded by Si(PIN)and silicon drift detector(SDD).In this method,we use the discrete distribution theory to calculate standard deviation of energy resolutionσ.The calibration ofσand energy(E)for two detectors between the energy ranges of 4.5–26 keV are also completed by measuring characteristic X-ray spectra of nineteen types of pure elements.With the spectrum fraction(SF)parameter proposed in this paper,the SDA method can be used to resolve overlapping peaks.In measured spectra,the Gaussian part of X-ray peaks can be fitted by a Gaussian function with two parameters,σand SF.This new fitting approach is simpler than traditional methods and it achieves relatively good results when fitting the complex X-ray spectra of national standard alloy samples detected by Si(PIN)and SDD detectors.The2r values are obtained for each spectrum to assess fitting results,and the SDA fitting method gives a preferable fit for the SDD detector.LI Zhe TUO XianGuo SHI Rui YANG JianBo 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,1:4
10Detection of tris-(2, 3-dibromopropyl) isocyanurate as a neuronal toxicant in environmental samples using neuronal toxicity-directed analysis显示文摘Neuronal toxic pollutants in environment possess hazards to human health. It is essential to determine the causative neuronal toxicants in environmental samples. In the present study, viability of primary cultured cerebellar granule neurons (CGNs), combined with sample extraction, chemical fractionation and identification, was applied for screening acid-resistant neuronal toxic substances in environmental samples. River sediments and agricultural soils along the river near a brominated flame retardant (BFR) manufacturing plant in South China were collected to screen the key neuronal toxicants. The results indicated that the manufacturing plant was a source of neuronal toxicity risks. In the sediment and soil near the plant, one of the causative toxicants was identified as tris-(2,3-dibromopropyl) isocyanurate (TBC) using HPLC-MS/MS. 12Preliminary survey of estrogenic activity in part of waters in Haihe River, Tianjin显示文摘A preliminary survey of estrogenic activity of the contaminant in part of waters (Ziya River and the estu- ary of Haihe River) in Haihe River, Tianjin has been per- formed with the plasma vitellogenin (Vtg) in feral fish as a biomarker for estrogenic activity. The concentrations of bisphenol A (BPA), 4-tert-octylphenol (OP) and 4-nonyl- phenol (NP) in surface water were also determined. The presence of Vtg in male fish plasma as well as that in female can be detected at different sites and different seasons. The results indicate that the water in the sampling sites was con- taminated by some estrogenic compounds. 14Decreasing mercury levels in consumer fish over the three decades of increasing mercury emissions in China显示文摘Fish consumption is the primary dietary route of human exposure to methylmercury.It has been well documented that elevated mercury concentration in fish in North America and Europe is linked to anthropogenic mercury emissions.China is the world’s largest producer,consumer,and emitter of mercury,as well as the world’s largest commercial fish producer and consumer.Although mercury pollution in fish in China is currently receiving much attention worldwide,its status remains largely unknown.Here,we conducted a meta-analysis on total mercury concentrations in marine and freshwater fish samples,covering 35,464 samples collected in China over the past 30 years.It is found that,opposite to the increasing emission and documented mercury contamination events,mercury levels in fish have gradually decreased in China over the past 30 years.The results were in sharp contrast to those found in North America and Europe.The mercury concentrations in fish were significantly anticorrelated with the fish catch and fish aquaculture and were inverse to trophic levels.Overfishing and the short lifecycle of aquaculture fish,both reducing the trophic level and the duration of mercury accumulation,were the most likely causes leading to the decline of mercury concentrations found in fish in China.Hua Zhang Wenxiong Wang Chejen Lin Xinbin Feng Jianbo Shi Guibin Jiang Thorjørn Larssen 2022Eco-Environment & Health2022,1,1:2
