1Effects of contact lens wearing on keratoconus:a confocal microscopy observation显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the corneal cell morphology of new keratoconus patients wearing two different types of rigid gas-permeable(RGP) contact lenses for 1y.METHODS: Thirty nine eyes of 39 new keratoconus patients were selected and randomly fitted with two types of RGP contact lenses.Group 1 had 21 eyes with regular rigid gas-permeable(RRGP) contact lens and rest 18 eyes were in group 2 with specially designed rigid gas-permeable(SRGP) contact lens.Corneal cell morphology was evaluated using a slit scanning confocal microscope at no-lens wear and after 1y of contact lens wearing.RESULTS: After 1y of contact lens wearing in group 1,the mean anterior and posterior stromal keratocyte density were significantly less(P=0.006 and P=0.001,respectively) compared to no-lens wear.The mean cell area of anterior and posterior stromal keratocyte were also significantly different(P=0.005 and P=0.001) from no-lens wear.The anterior and posterior stromal haze increased by 18.74% and 23.81%,respectively after 1y of contact lens wearing.Whereas in group 2,statistically significant changes were observed only in cell density & area of anterior stroma(P=0.001 and P=0.001,respectively) after 1y.While,level of anterior and posterior stromal haze increased by 16.67% and 11.11% after 1y of contact lens wearing.Polymegathism and pleomorphism also increased after 1y of contact lens wearing in both the contact lens groups.CONCLUSION: Confocal microscopy observation shows the significant alterations in corneal cell morphology of keratoconic corneas wearing contact lenses especially in group 1.The type of contact lens must be carefully selected to minimize changes in corneal cell morphology.Somnath Ghosh Haliza A Mutalib Sharanjeet Kaur Rituparna Ghoshal Shamala Retnasabapathy 2017International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017,10,2:4
2Improvement on the Multihop Shareholder Discovery for Threshold Secret Sharing in MANETs显示文摘The collaboration of at least a threshold number of secret shareholders in a threshold secret sharing scheme is a strict requirement to ensure its intended functionality.Due to its promising characteristics,such a scheme has been proposed to solve a range of security problems in mobile ad hoc networks.However,discovering a sufficient number of secret shareholders in such dynamic and unpredictable networks is not easy.In this paper,we propose a more efficient shareholder discovery mechanism compared to our previous work.The discovery process is performed in a multihop fashion to adapt to the mobile ad hoc network environment.We introduce batch extension that gradually extends the shareholders' collaboration boundary by more than one hop at a time around the service requestor,to find at least the threshold number of the unknown shareholders.Through the batch extension,reply aggregation is applicable,hence reducing the redundancy use of reply routes,decreasing the required packet transmission,and lessening the service delay,compared to the previously proposed mechanism.Our simulation results show that,with the appropriate batch size,the latest mechanism is more efficient with an insignificant increase of control overhead.Seleviawati Tarmizi Prakash Veeraraghavan Somnath Ghosh 2011Journal of Computer Science & Technology2011,26,4:1

5Data-driven Bayesian model-based prediction of fatigue crack nucleation in Ni-based superalloys显示文摘This paper develops a Bayesian inference-based probabilistic crack nucleation model for the Ni-based superalloy René88DT under fatigue loading.A data-driven,machine learning approach is developed,identifying underlying mechanisms driving crack nucleation.An experimental set of fatigue-loaded microstructures is characterized near crack nucleation sites using scanning electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction images for correlating the grain morphology and crystallography to the location of crack nucleation sites.A concurrent multiscale model,embedding experimental polycrystalline microstructural representative volume elements(RVEs)in a homogenized material,is developed for fatigue simulations.The RVE domain is modeled by a crystal plasticity finite element model.An anisotropic continuum plasticity model,obtained by homogenization of the crystal plasticity model,is used for the exterior domain.A Bayesian classification method is introduced to optimally select informative state variable predictors of crack nucleation.From this principal set of state variables,a simple scalar crack nucleation indicator is formulated.Maxwell Pinz George Weber Jean Charles Stinville Tresa Pollock Somnath Ghosh 2022npj Computational Materials2022,,1:1

13Sexual Dimorphism in Right and Left Orbital Fossa Measurements from Adult Human Skulls from an Eastern Indian Population显示文摘In forensic anthropology,the pelvis is the most reliable indicator of sex,followed by the skull,with several studies having used the morphometry of the orbital aperture of dry skulls to estimate sex.However,age,sex,ancestry,and evolutionary periods cause variations in orbital characteristics.In this study,we analyzed measurements of orbital fossa from adult human craniums and employed discriminant function analysis to establish a model to predict sex.A manual Vernier caliper was used to obtain measurements of the left and right orbital fossa.On comparing the measurements(including mean,minimum,and maximum),we found that all the dimensions were greater in males than in females.Wilks’lambda for the sex-discriminating model was 0.533,signifying a moderate discriminating power.The discriminant function equation was:df=−10.274×right orbit width+13.44×left orbit width−7.982×right orbit height+7.694×left orbit height−12.234(constant).The cutoff point was(90.567−[−1.512])/2=1.0395.Therefore,above this value of 1.0395,cases were predicted to be male,while below it,they were predicted to be female.Orbital aperture measurements can play an important role in estimating sex from dry craniums.Orbital measurements could be a useful adjunctive test for sex estimation in forensic practice.Ritwik Ghosh Soumeek Chowdhuri Somnath Maity 2019Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2019,5,4:0
