1Application potential of carbon nanotubes in water treatment:A review显示文摘Water treatment is the key to coping with the conflict between people's increasing demand for water and the world-wide water shortage. Owing to their unique and tunable structural, physical, and chemical properties, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have exhibited great potentials in water treatment. This review makes an attempt to provide an overview of potential solutions to various environmental challenges by using CNTs as adsorbents, catalysts or catalyst support, membranes, and electrodes. 3Orthogonal-Gradient Measurement Matrix Construction Algorithm显示文摘An orthogonal-gradient measurement matrix construction algorithm is proposed for reducing the maximum and average mutual-coherence of sensing matrix. It shrinks Gram matrix based on equiangular tight frame theory. An orthogonal-gradient factor matrix is deduced. It obtains an optimized measurement matrix with the orthogonal-gradient factor matrix. The results of experiments show that the proposed algorithm effectively reduces the maximum and average mutual-coherence of sensing matrix. 4A settling curve modeling method for quantitative description of the dispersion stability of carbon nanotubes in aquatic environments显示文摘Understanding the aggregation and deposition behavior of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) is of great significance in terms of their fate and transport in the environment. Attachment efficiency is a widely used index for well-dispersed CNT solutions. However, in natural waters, CNTs are usually heterogeneous in particle size. The attachment efficiency method is not applicable to such systems. Describing the dispersion stability of CNTs in natural aquatic systems is still a challenge. In this work, a settling curve modeling(SCM) method was developed for the description of the aggregation and deposition behavior of CNTs in aqueous solutions. The effects of water chemistry(natural organic matter, p H, and ionic strength) on the aggregation and deposition behavior of pristine and surface-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) were systematically studied to evaluate the reliability of the SCM method. The results showed that, as compared to particle size and optical density, the centrifugal sedimentation rate constant(ks) from the settling curve profile is a practical, useful and reliable index for the description of heterogeneous CNT suspensions. 5Comparative transcriptomics revealed enhanced light responses, energy transport and storage in domestication of cassava(Manihot esculenta)显示文摘Cassava is a staple food, feed and bioenergy crop important to the world especially in the tropics.Domesticated cassava is characterized by powerful carbohydrate accumulation but its wild progenitor is not.Here, we investigated the transcriptional differences of eight c DNA libraries derived from developing leaf, stem and storage root of cassava cv. Arg7 and an ancestor line,W14, using next generation sequencing system. A total of41302 assembled transcripts were obtained and from these,25961 transcripts with FPKM≥3 in at least one library were named the expressed genes. A total of 2117, 1963 and3584 transcripts were found to be differentially expressed in leaf, stem and storage root(150 d after planting),respectively, between Arg7 and W14 and ascribed to 103,93 and 119 important pathways in leaf, stem and storage root, respectively. The highlight of this work is that the genes involved in light response, such as those for photosystem I(PSA) and photosystem II(PSB), other genes involved in light harvesting, and some of the genes in the Calvin cycle of carbon fixation were specially upregulated in leaf. Genes for transport and also for key rate-limiting enzymes(PFK, PGK and PK, GAPDH)coupling ATP consumption in glycolysis pathway were predominantly expressed in stem, and genes for sucrose degradation(INVs), amylose synthesis(GBSS) and hydrolysis(RCP1, AMYs), the three key steps of starch metabolism, and transport associated with energy translocation(ABC, AVPs and ATPase) and their upstream transcription factors had enhanced expression in storage root in domesticated cassava. 7Recyclable polymer-based nano-hydrous manganese dioxide for highly efficient Tl(I) removal from water显示文摘Tl(I)in water even at a trace level is fatal to human beings and the ecosystem.Here we fabricated a new polymer-supported nanocomposite(HMO-001)for efficient Tl(I)removal by encapsulating nanosized hydrous manganese dioxide(HMO)within a polystyrene cation exchanger(D-001).The resultant HMO-001 exhibited more preferable removal of Tl(I)than D-001 and IRC-748,an iminodiacetic chelating polymer,particularly in the presence of competing Ca(II)ions at greater levels in solution.Such preference was ascribed to the Donnan membrane effect caused by D-001 as well as the specific interaction between Tl(I)and HMO.The adsorbed Tl(I)was partially oxidized into insoluble Tl(III)by HMO at acidic pH,while negligible oxidation was observed at circumneutral pH.The exhausted HMO-001 was amenable to efficient regeneration by binary NaOH-NaClO solution for at least 10-cycle batch runs without any significant capacity loss.Fixed-bed column test of Tl(I)-contained industrial effluent and natural water further validated that Tl(I)retention on HMO-001 resulted in a conspicuous concentration drop from 1.3 mg/L to a value lower than 0.14 mg/L(maximum concentration level for industrial effluent regulated by US EPA)and from 1–4?g/L to a value lower than 0.1?g/L(drinking water standard regulated by China Health Ministry),respectively.PAN BingCai WAN ShunLi ZHANG ShuJuan GUO QingWei XU ZhengCheng LV Lu ZHANG WeiMing 2014Science China Chemistry2014,57,5:2
8Importation of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant in Beijing,China显示文摘Omicron(B.1.1.529),the fifth variant of concern(VOC)of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS‐CoV‐2),was firstly identified in November 2021 in South Africa.Omicron contains far more genome mutations than any other VOCs ever found,raising significant concerns about its increased transmissibility and immune evasion.Here,we report the importation of the Omicron variant into Beijing,China,in December 2021.Full‐length genome sequences of five imported strains were obtained,with their genetic features characterized.Each strain contained 57 to 61 nucleotide substitutions,39 deletions,and 9 insertions in the genome.Thirty to thirty‐two amino acid changes were found in the spike proteins of the five strains.The phylogenetic tree constructed by the maximum likelihood method showed that all five imported genomes belonged to Omicron(BA.1)(alias of B.1.1.529.1),which is leading to the current surge of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID‐19)cases worldwide.The globally increased COVID‐19 cases driven by the Omicron variant pose a significant challenge to disease prevention and control in China.Continuous viral genetic surveillance and increased testing among international travellers are required to contain this highly contagious variant.Fu Li Zhichao Liang Shujuan Cui Bing Lv Zhaomin Feng Hui Xu Lei Jia Peng Yang Quanyi Wang Yang Pan Daitao Zhang 2022Biosafety and Health2022,4,3:2

14An Old Story Retold: Loss of G1 Control Defines A Distinct Genomic Subtype of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma显示文摘Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) has a high mortality rate. To determine the molecular basis of ESCC development, this study sought to identify characteristic genome-wide alterations in ESCC, including exonic mutations and structural alterations. The clinical implications of these genetic alterations were also analyzed. Exome sequencing and verification were performed for nine pairs of ESCC and the matched blood samples, followed by validation with additional samples using Sanger sequencing. Whole-genome SNP arrays were employed to detect copy number alteration(CNA) and loss of heterozygosity(LOH) in 55 cases, including the nine ESCC samples subjected to exome sequencing. A total of 108 non-synonymous somatic mutations(NSSMs) in102 genes were verified in nine patients. The chromatin modification process was found to be enriched in our gene ontology(GO) analysis. Tumor genomes with TP53 mutations were significantly more unstable than those without TP53 mutations. In terms of the landscape of genomic alterations, deletion of 9p21.3 covering CDKN2A/2B(30.9%), amplification of 11q13.3 covering CCND1(30.9%), and TP53 point mutation(50.9%) occurred in two-thirds of the cases. These results suggest that the deregulation of the G1 phase during the cell cycle is a key event in ESCC.Furthermore, six minimal common regions were found to be significantly altered in ESCC samples and three of them, 9p21.3, 7p11.2, and 3p12.1, were associated with lymph node metastasis. 20Genomic characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 in Beijing,China,2021显示文摘At present,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)spread worldwide,which has emerged multiple variants and brought a threat to global public health.To analyze the genomic characteristics and variations of SARS-CoV-2 imported into Beijing,we collected the respiratory tract specimens of 112 cases of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)from January to September 2021 in Beijing,China,including 40 local cases and 72 imported cases.The whole-genome sequences of the viruses were sequenced by the next-generation sequencing method.Variant markers and phylogenic features of SARS-CoV-2 were analyzed.Our results showed that in all 112 sequences,the mutations were concentrated in spike protein.D614G was found in all sequences,and mutations including L452R,T478K,P681R/H,and D950N in some cases.Furthermore,112 sequences belonged to 23 lineages by phylogenetic analysis.B.1.1.7(Alpha)and B.1.617.2(Delta)lineages were dominant.Our study drew a variation image of SARS-CoV-2 and could help evaluate the potential risk of COVID-19 for pandemic preparedness and response.Zhaomin Feng Shujuan Cui Bing Lyu Zhichao Liang Fu Li Lingyu Shen Hui Xu Peng Yang Quanyi Wang Daitao Zhang Yang Pan 2022Biosafety and Health2022,4,4:0
