| 2 | Research progress in artificial upwelling and its potential environmental effects显示文摘Artificial upwelling, as a geoengineering tool, has received worldwide attention because it may actualize ocean fertilization in a sustainable way, which could potentially alleviate the pressures on the fish stocks and human-driven climate change in the ocean. We reviewed the current knowledge on the development of an artificial upwelling system and its potential environmental effects. Special attention was given to the research progress on the air-lift concept artificial upwelling by Zhejiang University. The research on artificial upwelling over the past few decades has generated a range of devices that have been successfully applied in the field for months. Based on field experiments and the associated modeling results, part of them reported positive effects on increasing primary production and enhancing CO2 sequestration. However, as a significant disturbance to the environment, especially for large-scale applications, the uncertainties related to the potential effects on ecosystem remain unsolved. Zhejiang University has overcome the technical challenges in designing and fabricating a robust and high efficiency artificial upwelling device which has been examined in two field experiments in Qiandao Lake and one sea trial in the East China Sea. It was investigated that cold and hypoxic deep ocean water(DOW) could be uplifted to the euphotic layer, which could potentially change the nutrient distribution and adjust the N/P ratio. Both simulation and field experiments results confirmed that utilizing self-powered energy to inject compressed air to uplift DOW was a valid and efficient method. | 4 | Sustainability of SARS-CoV-2 Induced Humoral Immune Responses in COVID-19 Patients from Hospitalization to Convalescence Over Six Months显示文摘Understanding the persistence of antibody in convalescent COVID-19 patients may help to answer the current major concerns such as the risk of reinfection,the protection period of vaccination and the possibility of building an active herd immunity.This retrospective cohort study included 172 COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized in Wuhan.A total of404 serum samples were obtained over six months from hospitalization to convalescence.Antibodies in the specimens were quantitatively analyzed by the capture chemiluminescence immunoassays(CLIA).All patients were positive for the anti-SARS-Co V-2 Ig M/Ig G at the onset of COVID-19 symptoms,and the Ig G antibody persisted in all the patients during the convalescence.However,only approximately 25%of patients can detect the Ig M antibodies,Ig M against N protein(NIg M)and receptor binding domain of S protein(RBD-Ig M)at the 27 th week.The titers of Ig M,N-Ig M and RBD-Ig M reduced to 16.7%,17.6%and 15.2%of their peak values respectively.In contrast,the titers of Ig G,N-Ig G and RBD-Ig G peaked at 4–5 th week and reduced to 85.9%,62.6%and 87.2%of their peak values respectively at the end of observation.Dynamic behavior of antibodies and their correlation in age,gender and severity groups were investigated.In general,the COVID-19 antibody was sustained at high levels for over six months in most of the convalescent patients.Only a few patients with antibody reducing to an undetectable level which needs further attention.The humoral immune response against SARS-Co V-2 infection in COVID-19 patients exhibits a typical dynamic of acquired immunity. | Yang Zheng Qing Zhang Ashaq Ali Ke Li Nan Shao Xiaoli Zhou Zhiqin Ye Xiaomin Chen Shanshan Cao Jing Cui Juan Zhou Dianbing Wang Baidong Hou Min Li Mengmeng Cui Lihua Deng Xinyi Sun Qian Zhang Qinfang Yang Yong li Hui Wang Yake Lei Bo Yu Yegang Cheng Xiaolin Tong Dong Men Xian-En Zhang | 2021 | Virologica Sinica2021,36,5: | 1 |

| 7 | The impact of biotic and abiotic factors on the distribution of surface sediment dinoflagellate cyst assemblages on the Nanji Island in the East China Sea显示文摘The dinoflagellate cyst assemblages on the Nanji Island in the East China Sea, are documented at the first time to construct a quantitative overview of the cyst bank from 2014 to 2015. Thirty-four morphotypes from six groups are identified and quantified at eight sampling sites around the island, including a high proportion of potentially toxigenic species(14%). Autotrophic dinocysts constitute 74% of the total cyst counts, which is relatively low(two to thirty-three per millilitre sediment) compared with previous studies in adjacent areas. Scrippsiella trochoidea and Protoperidinium avellana are the most abundant autotrophic and heterotrophic species, respectively. A multivariate analysis is performed to assess associations between dinocysts and abiotic or biotic variables.Differentiation among seasons is evident in the detrended correspondence analysis(DCA) ordination plot, while a spatial pattern is not clearly revealed despite heterogeneity of the hydrodynamic conditions between sampling sites. Soluble reactive phosphate, the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus concentrations and Karenia mikimotoi bloom are the three factors significantly(P<0.05) related to surface sediment cyst assemblage defined by the canonical correspondence analysis(CCA), highlighting the importance of nutrient regime to a dinocyst distribution in this area. | 9 | Stress regulation of photosynthetic system of Phaeocystis globosa and their hemolytic activity显示文摘Blooms of Phaeocystis globosa have been reported accountable for massive fi sh mortality worldwide.The toxigenic mechanisms of P.globosa,however,remain largely unclear due to the multiple structures and/or synergistic or antagonistic ef fects of hemolytic compounds.External stressors could lead to the regulation of photoprotective or antioxidative defense system,as well as the potential hemolytic activity.Therefore,the light-induced photosynthetic system,including the accessory photosynthetic growth,the relative electron transfer rate(ETR),photosynthetic e ffi ciency(F_(v)/F_(m)),quantum yield of photosystem II(Yield),together with the hemolytic activity of P.globosa were investigated under variable environmental conditions in the present study.Results confirmed that hemolytic activity of P.globosa was initiated by the light,but inhibited by low temperature(16℃),high light intensity(>100μmol/(m^(2)·s)),and iron-limited conditions.Interestingly,the hemolytic activity was not impacted by photosynthetic electron inhibitors(Diuron,atrazine,paraquat,and dibromothymoquinone),which signifi cantly inhibited the photosynthetic activity of P.globosa.The correlated response of hemolytic and photosynthetic activity of P.globosa under those environmental factors suggested that the hemolytic compounds of P.globosa would be involved in the photosynthetic process but not in the electron transfer chain of P.globosa. | Ni WU Suping FU Xinru SONG Mengmeng TONG Tianjiu JIANG | 2022 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,6: | 0 |
