1Potential toxic risk of heavy metals from sediment of the Pearl River in South China显示文摘Based on the monitoring of five heavy metal elements in the surface sediments of the Pearl River in South China, potential toxicity of the heavy metals was assessed using consensus-based sediment quality guidelines (SQGs) method and geo-accumulation (Igeo) index method. The monitoring results showed the heavy metal concentrations were significantly and positively correlated with each other, demonstrating a common trend in variation of concentration in the surface sediments. The assessment using the consensus-based SQGs method showed the potential toxicity of Cu was the highest, and Cd was the lowest. The evaluation based on mean probable effect concentration (PEC) quotient showed the region was seriously polluted with high toxicity heavy metals. Correlation analysis revealed a significant and positive correlation between the mean PEC quotient and the average of Igeo with a correlation coefficient of 0.926 (n = 23, P < 0.01). 2Ozone and secondary organic aerosol formation potential from anthropogenic volatile organic compounds emissions in China显示文摘Volatile organic compounds(VOCs) are major precursors for ozone and secondary organic aerosol(SOA), both of which greatly harm human health and significantly affect the Earth's climate. We simultaneously estimated ozone and SOA formation from anthropogenic VOCs emissions in China by employing photochemical ozone creation potential(POCP) values and SOA yields. We gave special attention to large molecular species and adopted the SOA yield curves from latest smog chamber experiments. The estimation shows that alkylbenzenes are greatest contributors to both ozone and SOA formation(36.0% and51.6%, respectively), while toluene and xylenes are largest contributing individual VOCs.Industry solvent use, industry process and domestic combustion are three sectors with the largest contributions to both ozone(24.7%, 23.0% and 17.8%, respectively) and SOA(22.9%,34.6% and 19.6%, respectively) formation. In terms of the formation potential per unit VOCs emission, ozone is sensitive to open biomass burning, transportation, and domestic solvent use, and SOA is sensitive to industry process, domestic solvent use, and domestic combustion. Biomass stoves, paint application in industrial protection and buildings,adhesives application are key individual sources to ozone and SOA formation, whether measured by total contribution or contribution per unit VOCs emission. The results imply that current VOCs control policies should be extended to cover most important industrial sources, and the control measures for biomass stoves should be tightened. 4Environment-ecosystem dynamic processes of Spartina alterniflora salt-marshes along the eastern China coastlines显示文摘Spartina alterniflora is ecologically important in its original habitat; however, it has caused controversy since it was introduction into China(now it has been spreading rapidly on the Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian coasts). The purpose of the present contribution is, on the basis of an analysis and synthesis of existing data sets, to evaluate the environmental-ecological effects of S. alterniflora, and to identify the relevant scientific problems that require further research in the future. Investigations have shown that, by reducing the near-bed shear stress associated with tidal currents, S. alterniflora can enhance the settling flux of suspended sediment and deposition rate on the tidal flats over the region. Further, field survey and analysis indicate that the S. alterniflora salt-marsh has a high primary production and provides a new type of habitat for the native benthic fauna. Some macro-, meio- and micro-fauna that used to live in the native salt-marshes have adapted to the S. alterniflora salt-marsh, forming a new ecosystem. Under the influences of a number of background factors, such as latitude variations and the coastal type, the environmental-ecological changes induced by Spartine have regional differentiations. To the north of Hangzhou Bay, with a high position of the pre-Holocene stratum base, a large width of the tidal flats, and a gentle bed slope, only a small part of the intertidal zone is occupied by the S. alterniflora salt-marsh. Here, the S. alterniflora salt-marshes mainly play a positive role in coastal protection and ecosystem functioning. In contrary, to the South of Hangzhou Bay, The pre-Holocene deposits are situated in relatively deeo waters, and the width of the tidal flats formed within coastal embayments is relatively narrow. As such, the expansion of S. alterniflora has squeezed the living space of other intertidal organisms, thus has a negative ecological effect. Therefore, the regional differentiation of the Spartina effects should be sufficiently considered in coastal development and management. 5Adsorption of mixed cationic-nonionic surfactant and its effect on bentonite structure显示文摘The adsorption of cationic-nonionic mixed surfactant onto bentonite and its effect on bentonite structure were investigated.The objective was to improve the understanding of surfactant behavior on clay mineral for its possible use in remediation technologies of soil and groundwater contaminated by toxic organic compounds.The cationic surfactant used was hexadecylpyridinium bromide(HDPB),and the nonionic surfactant was Triton X-100(TX100).Adsorption of TX100 was enhanced significantly by the addition of HDPB,but this enhancement decreased with an increase in the fraction of the cationic surfactant.Part of HDPB was replaced by TX100 which decreased the adsorption of HDPB.However,the total adsorbed amount of the mixed surfactant was still increased substantially,indicating the synergistic effect between the cationic and nonionic surfactants.The surfactant-modified bentonite was characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface area measurement,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and thermogravimetric-derivative thermogravimetric/differential thermal analyses.Surfactant intercalation was found to decrease the bentonite specific surface area,pore volume,and surface roughness and irregularities,as calculated by nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms.The co-adsorption of the cationic and nonionic surfactants increased the ordering conformation of the adsorbed surfactants on bentonite,but decreased the thermal stability of the organobentonite system.Yaxin Zhang Yan Zhao Yong Zhu Huayong Wu Hongtao Wang Wenjing Lu 2012Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,8:12
6Over-expression of an Arabi-dopsisd δ-OAT gene enhances salt and drought tolerance in transgenic rice显示文摘d-OAT, ornithine--aminotransferase, is the key enzyme involved in proline biosynthesis. In this study the Arabidopsis d -OAT gene was transferred into rice (Oryza sativa L. ssp japonica cv. Zhongzuo 321), whose successful integration was demonstrated by PCR and Southern blot analysis. The over-expression of the gene in transgenic rice was also confirmed. Biochemical analysis showed that, under salt or drought stress conditions, proline contents in the leaves and roots in transgenic rice plants were 5- to 15-fold of those in non-transgenic controls. Under stress conditions, germinating rate of transgenic lines is higher than that of controls. Although the growth of rice plants tested were more and more retarded with the increasing of NaCl concentration, the transgenic plants grow faster compared to the controls under the same stress condition. Meanwhile, the resistance to KCl and MgSO4 stresses was also found enhanced in trans-genic rice. Furthermore, the over-expression of d -OAT also improved the yield of transgenic plants under stress condi-tions. The average yield per plant of transgenic lines in-creases about 12%—41% more than that of control lines under 0.1 mol/L NaCl stress. 9A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motif 1(ADAMTS1) expression increases in acute aortic dissection显示文摘Acute aortic dissection(AAD) is a life-threatening cardiovascular disease caused by progressive medial degeneration of the aortic wall. A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 1(ADAMTS1) is a recently identified extracellular metalloproteinase participating in the development of vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis. In the present study, we found that ADAMTS1 was significantly elevated in blood samples from AAD patients compared with patients with acute myocardial infarction and healthy volunteers. Based on these findings, we established an AAD model by infusing angiotensin II in older mice. AAD was successfully developed in aorta tissues, with an incidence of 42% after 14 days in the angiotensin II group. Macrophage and neutrophil infiltration was observed in the media of the aorta, and ADAMTS1 overexpression was found in the aorta by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. Double immunofluorescence staining showed the expression of ADAMTS1 in macrophages and neutrophils. Consistent with the upregulation of ADAMTS1 in aortic dissection tissues, versican(a proteoglycan substrate of ADAMTS1) was degraded significantly more in these tissues than in control aortic tissues. 10Characterization and Fine Mapping of a Novel Rice Narrow Leaf Mutant nal9显示文摘A narrow leaf mutant was isolated from transgenic rice(Oryza sativa L.)lines carrying a T-DNA insertion.The mutant is characterized by narrow leaves during its whole growth period,and was named nal9(narrow leaf 9).The mutant also has other phenotypes,such as light green leaves at the seedling stage,reduced plant height,a small panicle and increased tillering.Genetic analysis revealed that the mutation is controlled by a single recessive gene.A hygromycin resistance assay showed that the mutation was not caused by T-DNA insertion,so a map-based cloning strategy was employed to isolate the nal9 gene.The mutant individuals from the F2generations of a cross between the nal9 mutant and Longtepu were used for mapping.With 24 F2mutants,the nal9 gene was preliminarily mapped near the marker RM156 on the chromosome 3.New INDEL markers were then designed based on the sequence differences between japonica and indica at the region near RM156.The nal9 gene was fnally located in a 69.3 kb region between the markers V239B and V239G within BAC OJ1212_C05 by chromosome walking.Sequence and expression analysis showed that an ATP-dependent Clp protease proteolytic subunit gene(ClpP)was most likely to be the nal9 gene.Furthermore,the nal9 mutation was rescued by transformation of the ClpP cDNA driven by the 35S promoter.Accordingly,the ClpP gene was identifed as the NAL9 gene.Our results provide a basis for functional studies of NAL9 in future work.Wei Li Chao Wu Guocheng Hu Li Xing Wenjing Qian Huamin Si Zongxiu Sun Xingchun Wang Yaping Fu Wenzhen Liu 2013Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,11:8

12Comparison of efficacy between HLA6/6-and HLA3/6-matched haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplant in T-cell-replete transplants between parents and children显示文摘To compare the efficacy of HLA6/6-matched haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplant(haplo-HSCT) with that of HLA3/6-matched HSCT in T-cell-replete transplants, we recruited 27 consecutive recipients from multiple centers who received HLA6/6-matched haplo-HSCT from a parent or child donor between February 2010 and May 2016. A matched-pair analysis was designed. For each recipient from the study cohort, two recipients were randomly selected from the control cohort and matched(according to patient age, patient sex, disease type, disease status, donor age, donor sex, and recipient-donor relationship). No significant differences were found in hematopoietic recovery. The incidence of grade II–IV and III–IV acute graft versus host disease was similar(18.5% vs. 31.5%, P=0.216; 11.1% vs. 9.3%, P=0.792) in the HLA6/6 and HLA3/6 groups, respectively. The3-year cumulative incidence of relapse was 14.8% and 17.0%(P=0.800). The 3-year cumulative incidence of nonrelapse mortality was 12.1% and 17.6%(P=0.751). The estimated 3-year disease-free survival was 73.1% and 65.5%(P=0.489). The estimated 3-year overall survival was 74.7% and 74.0%(P=0.946). The data suggested the efficacy and safety of the HLA6/6-and the HLA3/6-matched haplo-HSCT between parents and children are comparable. 13Effect of low-level laser therapy on tooth-related pain and somatosensory function evoked by orthodontic treatment显示文摘Low-level laser therapy(LLLT) may have an effect on the pain associated with orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of LLLT on pain and somatosensory sensitization induced by orthodontic treatment. Forty individuals(12–33 years old; mean ± standard deviations: 20.8 ± 5.9 years) scheduled to receive orthodontic treatment were randomly divided into a laser group(LG) or a placebo group(PG)(1:1). The LG received LLLT(810-nm gallium-aluminium-arsenic diode laser in continuous mode with the power set at 400 mW, 2 J·cm–2) at 0 h, 2 h, 24 h, 4 d, and 7 d after treatment, and the PG received inactive treatment at the same time points. In both groups, the non-treated side served as a control. A numerical rating scale(NRS) of pain, pressure pain thresholds(PPTs), cold detection thresholds(CDTs), warmth detection thresholds(WDTs), cold pain thresholds(CPTs), and heat pain thresholds(HPTs) were tested on both sides at the gingiva and canine tooth and on the hand. The data were analysed by a repeated measures analysis of variance(ANOVA). The NRS pain scores were significantly lower in the LG group(P = 0.01). The CDTs,CPTs, WDTs, HPTs, and PPTs at the gingiva and the PPTs at the canine tooth were significantly less sensitive on the treatment side of the LG compared with that of the PG(P < 0.033). The parameters tested also showed significantly less sensitivity on the nontreatment side of the LG compared to that of the PG(P < 0.043). There were no differences between the groups for any quantitative sensory testing(QST) measures of the hand. The application of LLLT appears to reduce the pain and sensitivity of the tooth and gingiva associated with orthodontic treatment and may have contralateral effects within the trigeminal system but no generalized QST effects. 17Quantifying the Preferential Flow by Dye Tracer in the North China Plain显示文摘The preferential flow plays a vital role on the infiltration of irrigation or rainfall. The objective of this study was to quantify preferential flow in the processing of irrigation infiltration in the field scale. Tests of different initial soil water contents and irrigation intensities were conducted using Brilliant Blue FCF(C.I.42090) dye tracer in Luancheng County of the North China Plain. The results showed that the percentages of infiltration by the preferential flow for irrigation depth of 25, 50, and 75 mm were 16.67%, 43.67%, and 34.17%, with 19.72%, 61.42%, 66.64% of dyed areas in the soil profile, respectively, which indicated that preferential flow was enhanced with increasing irrigation intensity, but reduced when the irrigation intensity was over 50 mm. The percentages of preferential flow for 75 and 180 mm previous irrigation producing different initial soil water contents were 23.26% and 18.97%, with 53.23% and 39.94% of dyed areas in the soil profile, respectively. Compared with the 75 mm without previous irrigation, the results indicated that higher initial soil water contents restrained the preferential flow in the field. 18CD147 regulates antitumor CD8^(+)T-cell responses to facilitate tumor-immune escape显示文摘Negative regulation of antitumor T-cell-immune responses facilitates tumor-immune escape.Here,we show that deletion of CD147,a type I transmembrane molecule,in T cells,strongly limits in vivo tumor growth of mouse melanoma and lung cancer in a CD8^(+)T-cell-dependent manner.In mouse tumor models,CD147 expression was upregulated on CD8^(+)tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes(TILs),and CD147 was coexpressed with two immune-checkpoint molecules,Tim-3 and PD-1.Mining publicly available gene-profiling data for CD8^(+)TILs in tumor biopsies from metastatic melanoma patients showed a higher level of CD147 expression in exhausted CD8^(+)TILs than in other subsets of CD8^(+)TILs,along with expression of PD-1 and TIM-3.Additionally,CD147 deletion increased the abundance of TILs,cytotoxic effector function of CD8^(+)T cells,and frequency of PD-1^(+)CD8^(+)TILs,and partly reversed the dysfunctional status of PD-1^(+)Tim-3^(+)CD8^(+)TILs.The cytotoxic transcription factors Runx3 and T-bet mediation enhanced antitumor responses by CD147^(-/-)CD8^(+)T cells.Moreover,CD147 deletion in T cells increased the frequency of TRM-like cells and the expression of the T-cell chemokines CXCL9 and CXCL10 in the tumor microenvironment.Analysis of tumor tissue samples from patients with non-small-cell lung cancer showed negative correlations between CD147 expression on CD8^(+)TILs and the abundance of CD8^(+)TILs,histological grade of the tumor tissue samples,and survival of patients with advanced tumors.Altogether,we found a novel function of CD147 as a negative regulator of antitumor responses mediated by CD8^(+)TILs and identified CD147 as a potential target for cancer immunotherapy.Yatong Chen Jing Xu Xiaodong Wu Hui Yao Zhou Yan Ting Guo Wenjing Wang Peixiao Wang Yu Li Xiangmin Yang Hao Li Huijie Bian Zhi-Nan Chen 2021Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,8:4

20Spatial–temporal characteristics of haze and vertical distribution of aerosols over the Yangtze River Delta of China显示文摘Variation of haze events occurred in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) of China, the characteristics of meteorological elements and the vertical distribution of aerosols during haze episodes were analyzed by utilizing data of ground observation, radiosonde and CALIPSO. The results illustrate that the frequency of haze events between 1981 and 2010 peaked in winter but bottomed out in summer and decreased from north to south in the YRD region, reaching at the lowest point in 'low frequency center' — Shanghai. When haze happened, the most seriously affected area was 2–4 km above the ground and the concentrated range of total backscattering coefficient(TBC) that decreased with altitude was 0.8 × 10^(-3)–2.5 × 10^(-3) km^(-1)·sr^(-1). Particulate depolarization ratio(PDR) was less than 40%in a large part and 93% aerosols over the YRD area were regular particles, while the irregular ones concentrated on 2 km above the surface and the irregularity rose up but the diversity diminished when altitude increased. Color ratio(CR) was lower than 1.2 mostly at all altitudes and distributed asymmetrically above the ground. Nearly 80% aerosols under10 km were fine particles(CR < 1.0) and 22.54% coarse particles(CR > 1.0) clustered at 2–4 km. Large particles(CR > 1.2) aggregated in lower troposphere massively yet relatively smaller ones gathered in middle and upper troposphere.
