Nd isotopic compositions of the Tethyan Himalayan Sequence in southeastern Tibet显示文摘The Himalayan orogen consists of three major lithologic units that are separated by two major north-dipping faults: the Lesser Himalayan Sequence (LHS) below the Main Central Thrust (MCT), the Greater Himalayan Crystalline Complex (GHC) above the MCT, and the Tethyan Himalayan Sequence (THS) juxtaposed by the South Tibet Detachment fault (STD) over the GHC. Due to widespread meta-morphism and intense deformation, differentiating the above three lithologic units is often difficult. This problem has been overcome by the use of Sm-Nd isotopic analysis. The previous studies suggested that the LHS can be clearly distinguished from the GHC and THS by their Nd isotope compositions. However, the lack of detailed and systematic Sm-Nd isotopic studies of the THS across the Himalaya in general has made differentiation of this unit from the nearby GHC impossible, as the two appear to share overlapping Nd compositions and model ages. To address this problem, we systematically sam-pled and analyzed Nd isotopes of the THS in southeastern Tibet directly north of Bhutan. Our study identifies two distinctive fields in a εNd -TDM plot. The first is defined by the εNd(210 Ma) values of -3.45 to -7.34 and TDM values of 1.15 to 1.29 Ga from a Late Triassic turbidite sequence, which are broadly similar to those obtained from the Lhasa block. The second field is derived from the Early Cretaceous meta-sedimentary rocks with εNd(130 Ma) values from -15.24 to -16.61 and TDM values from 1.63 to 2.00 Ga; these values are similar to those obtained from the Greater Himalayan Crystalline Complex in Bhutan directly south of our sampling traverse, which has εNd(130 Ma) values of -10.89 to -16.32 and Nd model ages (TDM) of 1.73 to 2.20 Ga. From the above observations, we suggest that the Late Triassic strata of the southeast Tibetan THS were derived from the Lhasa block in the north, while the Early Cretaceous strata of the THS were derived from a source similar to the High Himalayan Crystalline Complex or Indian craton in the south. Our interpretation is consistent with the existing palaeocurrent data and provenance analysis of the Late Triassic strata in southeastern Tibet, which indicate the sediments derived from a northern source. Thus, we suggest that the Lhasa terrane and the Indian craton were close to one another in the Late Triassic and were separated by a rift valley across which a large submarine fan was transported southward and deposited on the future northern margin of the Indian continent.DAI JinGen YIN An LIU WenCan WANG ChengShan 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,9:19
Analysis of deep-layer and bottom circulations in the South China Sea based on eight quasi-global ocean model outputs显示文摘This study is a preliminary analysis of the South China Sea(SCS)deep circulations using eight quasi-global high-resolution ocean model outputs. The goal is to assess models’ability to simulate these deep circulations. The analysis reveals that models’deep temperatures are colder than the observations in the World Ocean Atlas, while most models’deep salinity values are higher than the observations, indicating models’deep water is generally colder and saltier than the reality. Moreover, there are long-term trends in both temperature and salinity simulations. The Luzon Strait transport below 1500 m is 0.36 Sv when averaged for all models, smaller compared with the observation, which is about 2.5 Sv.Four assimilated models and one unassimilated(OCCAM)display that the Luzon deep-layer overflow reaches its minimum in spring and its maximum in winter. The vertically integrated streamfunctions below 2400 m from these models show a deep cyclonic circulation in the SCS on a large scale, but the pattern is different from the diagnostic streamfunction from the U.S Navy Generalized Digital Environment Model(GDEM-Version 3.0,GDEMv3).The meridional overturning structure above 1000 m is similar in all models, but the spatial distribution and intensity below 1500 m are quite different from model to model. Moreover, the meridional overturning below 2400 m in these models is weaker than that of the GDEMv3,which indicates a deep vertical mixing process in these models is biased weak.Based on the above evaluation, this paper discusses the impacts of T/S initial value, topography, and mixing scheme on the SCS deep circulations, which may provide a reference for future model improvement.XIE Qiang XIAO JinGen WANG DongXiao YU YongQiang 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,32:14
Advances in research of the mid-deep South China Sea circulation显示文摘The South China Sea(SCS)is a large marginal sea connecting the Indian and Pacific oceans.Under the factors of monsoons, strait transport, and varied bathymetry, the SCS presents a three-layer structure and strong diapycnal mixing which is far greater than that in the open ocean.Theoretical analysis and observations reveal that internal tides, internal solitary waves, and strong winds are the sources of the strong mixing in the northern SCS.A major consequence of the strong mixing is an active mid-deep circulation system. This system promotes exchange of water between the SCS and adjacent oceans, and also regulates the upper layer of wind-driven circulation, making the 3 dimensional SCS circulation clearly different from that in other tropical and subtropical marginal seas. The mass transport capacity of the mid-deep circulation has a substantial impact on marine sedimentation, the biogeochemical cycle, and other processes in the SCS.This paper summarizes the recent advances in middeep sea circulation dynamics of the SCS,and discusses the opportunities and challenges in this area.Dongxiao WANG Qiang WANG Shuqun CAI Xiaodong SHANG Shiqiu PENG Yeqiang SHU Jingen XIAO Xiaohui XIE Zhiwei ZHANG Zhiqiang LIU Jian LAN Dake CHEN Huijie XUE Guihua WANG Jianping GAN Xinong XIE Rui ZHANG Hui CHEN Qingxuan YANG 2019Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12:8
Middle Jurassic-early Cretaceous radiolarian assemblages of the western Yarlung Zangbo Suture Zone: Implications for the evolution of the Neo-Tethys显示文摘Cherts in the Zhongba melange of the western Yarlung Zangbo Suture Zone(YZSZ) contain well preserved radiolarian assemblages. These radiolarian assemblages indicate that the Zhongba melange has middle Jurassic-early Cretaceous remnant, are coeval with those from the central and eastern parts of the YZSZ. Cherts from the Najiu area yield Aalenian to Aptian radiolarians, while cherts interbedded with siliceous mudstones from the Bielongjiala area yield Aptian radiolarians, indicating that terrigenousderived sediments were deposited during early Aptian. The above observations indicate that the entire YZSZ have a similar geochronological framework and thus they underwent similar geological evolution:(1) during the Jurassic, the Neo-Tethys was a wide ocean with pelagic sediments distal from continents;(2) during the Cretaceous(around 130-120 Ma), the Neo-Tethys started to subduct along the southern margin of the Lhasa block, and terrigenous-derived siliceous mudstone began deposition.Hanting Zhong Jingen Dai Chengshan Wang Yalin Li Yushuai Wei 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,5:6
Progress on deep circulation and meridional overturning circulation in the South China Sea显示文摘The deep overflow through the Luzon Strait drives the cyclonic deep circulation in the South China Sea(SCS). In the mean time, the intruding Pacific deep water transforms and upwells due to enhanced diapycnal mixing in the SCS. Both processes greatly contribute to the SCS meridional overturning circulation(SCSMOC). At the same time, both the deep circulation and meridional overturning circulation are modulated by rough topography in the SCS. Furthermore, the spatial structure of the SCSMOC infers a link between the upper-layer circulation and deep circulation in the SCS. This paper reviews recent advances in the SCS deep circulation and meridional overturning circulation, including the driving mechanism of the SCS deep circulation and its modulation by topography, as well as the spatial structure of the SCSMOC and its dynamical mechanism.WANG DongXiao XIAO JinGen SHU YeQiang XIE Qiang CHEN Ju WANG Qiang 2016Science China Earth Sciences2016,59,9:6
Alloying effects of the elements with a positive heat of mixing on the glass forming ability of Al-La-Ni amorphous alloys显示文摘The effects of Sn and Ga additions on the glass forming ability(GFA)of(Al86La5Ni9)100 xSnx(x=0,0.2,0.3,0.5,0.7,1 and 2at.%)and(Al86La5Ni9)100 xGax(x=0,0.2,0.5,1 and 1.5 at.%)alloys were systematically investigated.Unlike common microalloying methods, both Sn and Ga have a positive heat of mixing with the main component of Al.Our analysis confirmed that proper Sn addition can suppress the strong formation ofα-Al and enhance the GFA due to the positive heat of mixing between Sn and Al and the large difference in their atomic sizes. While the addition of Ga to the base alloy acted as the nucleation cites forα-Al and accelerated precipitation of theα-Al phase, thus deteriorating the GFA.CHEN ZiPan GAO JingEn WU Yuan WANG Hui LIU XiongJun LU ZhaoPing 2014Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2014,57,1:3
Origin of the finite nuclear spin and its effect in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions显示文摘The heavy-ion phase-space exploration (HIPSE) model is used to discuss the origin of the nuclear spin in intermediate energy heavy-ion collision (HIC).The spin of maximal projectile-like fragment is found to depend strongly on impact parameter of a reaction system, while it relates weakly to the collision violence. Some interesting multi-fragmentation phenomena related to the spin are shown. We also found that the excitation energy in the de-excitation stage plays a robust role at the de-excitation stage in HIC.ZHANG Guoqiang CAO Xiguang FU Yao MA Yugang CAI Xiangzou WANG Hongwei FANG Deqing CHEN Jingen GUO Wei Tian Wendong LIU Guihua 2012Nuclear Science and Techniques2012,23,1:2

Numerical Simulation of Mechanical Compaction of Deepwater Shallow Sediments显示文摘To study the compaction law and overpressure evolution in deepwater shallow sediments, a large-strain compaction model that considers material nonlinearity and moving boundary is formulated. The model considers the dependence of permeability and material properties on void ratio. The modified Cam-Clay model is selected as the constitutive relations of the sediments, and the deactivation/reactivation method is used to capture the moving top surface during the deposition process. A one-dimensional model is used to study the compaction law of the shallow sediments. Results show that the settlement of the shallow sediments is large under their own weight during compaction. The void ratio decreases strictly with burial depth and decreases more quickly near the seafloor than in the deeper layers. The generation of abnormal pressure in the shallow flow sands is closely related to the compaction law of shallow sediments. The two main factors that affect the generation of overpressure in the sands are deposition rate and permeability of overlying clay sediments. Overpressure increases with an increase in deposition rate and a decrease in the permeability of the overlying clay sediment. Moreover, an upper limit for the overpressure exists. A two-dimensional model is used to study the differential compaction of the shallow sediments. The pore pressure will still increase due to the inflow of the pore fluid from the neighboring clay sediment even though the deposition process is interrupted.SUN Jin WU Shiguo DENG Jingen LIN Hai ZHANG Hanyu WANG Jiliang GAO Jinwei 2018Journal of Ocean University of China2018,17,1:1

Sedimentology, provenance and geochronology of the Miocene Qiuwu Formation:Implication for the uplift history of Southern Tibet显示文摘Located on the south of the Gangdese, the Qiuwu Formation has traditionally been considered as Eocene coal-bearing clastic sediments consisting of sandstone, mudstone and conglomerate, unconformably on top of Gangdese batholith. However, its precise age and depositional environment remain ambiguous. Here,we present a newly measured stratigraphic section near the Ngamring County, western Xigaze.Detrital zircon U-Pb ages were also applied to trace the provenance of sediments and to constrain the maximum depositional age of the Qiuwu Formation.Sedimentary facies analyses indicate subaqueous fan and alluvial fan depositional environments.Clast composition of the conglomerate is dominated by magmatic rocks at the lower part, while chert and mafic detritus occur in the upper part, suggesting a southern source.Sandstone modal analyses indicate that the compositions of quartz, feldspar and lithic grains changed from transitional arc to dissected arc, implying the unroofing of the Gangdese arc.Detrital zircon U-Pb ages of the Qiuwu Formation are compared with those from Gangdese magmatic rocks and Yarlung-Zangbo ophiolites, suggesting that the Gangdese arc is a main source of the Qiuwu detritus and that the southern source played a role during the later stage. The major peak of detrital zircon ages is at 45-55 Ma,which corresponds to Linzizong volcanic rocks in southern Gangdese arc.The weighted mean age of the five youngest zircons from the lower part of the section is 21.0 ± 2.2 Ma,suggesting that the Qiuwu Formation was deposited in early Miocene, coeval with other conglomerates exposed along the southern margin of Gangdese.Combining new observations with previously published data,we propose that the provenance of the Qiuwu Formation had shifted from a single northern source to double sources from both the north and the south.Activities of Great Counter Thrust were primarily responsible for the shift by making the south area a high elevation to provide sediments for the Qiuwu Formation.Jiawei Zhang Jingen Dai Xinyu Qian Yukui Ge Chengshan Wang 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,4:0
Vector analysis of electric-field-induced antiparallel magnetic domain evolution in ferromagnetic/ferroelectric heterostructures显示文摘Electric field(E-field)control of magnetism based on magnetoelectric coupling is one of the promising approaches for manipulating the magnetization with low power consumption. The evolution of magnetic domains under in-situ E-fields is significant for the practical applications in integrated micro/nano devices. Here,we report the vector analysis of the E-field-driven antiparallel magnetic domain evolution in FeCoSiB/PMN-PT(011)multiferroic heterostructures via in-situ quantitative magneto-optical Kerr microscope. It is demonstrated that the magnetic domains can be switched to both the 0°and 180°easy directions at the same time by E-fields,resulting in antiparallel magnetization distribution in ferromagnetic/ferroelectric heterostructures. This antiparallel magnetic domain evolution is attributed to energy minimization with the uniaxial strains by E-fields which can induce the rotation of domains no more than 90°.Moreover,domains can be driven along only one or both easy axis directions by reasonably selecting the initial magnetic domain distribution. The vector analysis of magnetic domain evolution can provide visual insights into the strain-mediated magnetoelectric effect, and promote the fundamental understanding of electrical regulation of magnetism.Xinger ZHAO Zhongqiang HU Jingen WU Ting FANG Yaojin LI Yuxin CHENG Yifan ZHAO Mengmeng GUAN Dan XIAN Chenying WANG Qi MAO Bin PENG Ren-Ci PENG Ziyao ZHOU Zhiguang WANG Zhuang-De JIANG Ming LIU 2021Journal of Advanced Ceramics2021,10,6:0
