High strength and ductility Mg-8Gd-3Y-0.5Zr alloy with bimodal structure and nano-precipitates显示文摘To resolve the strength-ductility trade-off problem for high-strength Mg alloys,we prepared a high performance Mg-8Gd-3Y-0.5 Zr(wt%)alloy with yield strength of 371 MPa,ultimate tensile strength of 419MPa and elongation of 15.8%.The processing route involves extrusion,pre-deformation and aging, which leads to a bimodal structure and nano-precipitates.Back-stress originated from the deformationincompatibility in the bimodal-structure alloy can improve ductility. In addition, dislocation density in coarse grains increased during the pre-deformation strain of 2%,and the dislocations in coarse grains can promote the formation of chain-like nano-precipitates during aging treatment. The chain-like nanoprecipitates can act as barriers for dislocations slip and the existing mobile dislocations enable good ductility.Xiaoxiao Wei Li Jin Fenghua Wang Jing Li Nan Ye Zhenyan Zhang Jie Dong 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,44,9:9
Geothermal measurements in the pilot-boreholes of the China Continental Scientific Drilling显示文摘The geothermal measurements in the pilot-boreholes of the China Continental Scientific Drilling (CCSD) indicate that the temperature gradients in the target area of the deep drilling range from 19 to 26℃/km, which is lower than that (25-30℃/km) for the global continental area and similar to that for the KTB (21-28℃/km). Thermal conductivity measurements for 44 core samples show that the ultra-high pressure (UHP) metamorphic rocks have 50% higher thermal conductivity (with a mean of 3.94±1.26 W/mK) than that for the average value of the upper crust. The measured heat flow values vary between 76 and 80 mW/m2, higher than that for the global continental area (65±1.6 mW/m2) and the continental China (61±15.5mW/m2) as well as the adjacent North Jiangsu Basin (68 mW/m2), butlower than that below 1000 m in the KTB (85 mW/m2). The elevated heat flow in the pilot-boreholes can be attributed to the lateral heat concentration due to higher rock thermal conductivity of the VHP belt than that of the adjacentWANG Jiyang HU Shengbiao YANG Wencai CHEN Benhe CHEN Zhenyan LI Tiejun 2001Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,20:7

Effects of soaking process on arsenic and other mineral elements in brown rice显示文摘One of the main food crops in the world, rice can accumulate high levels of arsenic from flooded paddy soils, which seriously threatens human health.Soaking,a common processing method for brown rice products, especially for brown rice noodles, was investigated in this study.Japonica rice(Dao Hua Xiang No.2)and Indica rice(Ye Xiang You No.3)were selected for studying the effects of soaking on arsenic concentrations, species, and distributions. Results revealed that soaking can efficiently remove arsenic in these two rice varieties, and the main part of removal is endosperm with the maximal rate of about 40%.Inorganic arsenic(I-As)(about 85%)is the main species of arsenic reduction.Meanwhile, the variations of four other elements(i.e.,Mg,Ca,Zn,and Fe)were analyzed.Collectively, the findings of this study indicate that soaking can efficiently remove arsenic in brown rice under controlled soaking conditions, which thereby reduces the arsenic intake for brown rice customers.Fan Zhang Fengying Gu Huili Yan Zhenyan He Bolun Wang Hao Liu Tingting Yang Feng Wang 2020Food Science and Human Wellness2020,9,2:5
Distribution and their pollution assessment of heavy metals in the sediments of the Yalu River Estuary and its adjacent coastal waters显示文摘The present paper deals with the distribution patterns of heavy metals and the associated influencing factors in the Yalu River Estuary and its adjacent coastal waters.Based upon the analysis of the surficial and core sediments measurements, the pollution of heavy metal and potential ecological risk were evaluated. The burial flux and contents of heavy metals(except for copper) have been continuously increasing since the 1920s.Therefore,the gross potential ecological risk for the sedi-ments was high or very high, and the study area was endangered by heavy metals contamination.Heavy metals originated mainly from upstream pollutant input, correlation analysis showed that chromium, nickel, zinc, cadmium, lead, arsenic, and mercury in the sediments of the middle and west channels as well as the sea area of the western Yalu River Estuary concentrations were most probably derived from similar sources. In contrast, the metal of copper most probably originated from sources different from the other metals.Preliminary studies indicate that copper contamination was most likely the result of emission from mining activities situated at the upstream of the river. The contents of heavy metals in the sediments of estuarine turbidity maximum zone of Yalu River were larger than those of any other areas in the middle channel. With large portion of fine sediments, weaker hydrodynamics, and richer sources of heavy metals, the sediments of the west channel, were even more enriched with heavy metals than those of the middle channel.GAO Jianhua LI Jun Wang Harry V WANG Yaping WANG Zhenyan BAI Fenglong GAO Shu CHENG Yan 2009Acta Oceanologica Sinica2009,28,6:4
Acupuncture for cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury Does it reduce the inflammatory reaction?显示文摘BACKGROUND:Nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in brain tissue can participate in inflammatory reactions after cerebral ischemia.Acupuncture treatment for acute cerebral ischemia produces abnormal protein expression.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of acupuncture on NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the brain tissue of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING:Randomized, controlled, animal experiments were performed at the Laboratory of Department of Neurosurgery, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, China between December 2008 and October 2009.MATERIALS:Rabbit anti-NF-κB polyclonal antibody, rabbit anti-ICAM-1 polyclonal antibody, and rabbit anti-VCAM-1 polyclonal antibody were purchased from Santa Cruz Biotechnology, USA.METHODS:A total of 46 healthy, Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to sham surgery (n=10), model (n=12), acupuncture pretreatment (n=12), and acupuncture intervention (n=12) groups.Models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were established by right common carotid artery ligation. In the acupuncture pretreatment group, rats received acupuncture for 3 consecutive days, and then models were established. In the acupuncture intervention group, rats received acupuncture for 3 consecutive days at Waiguan (SJ 5), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), and Dazhui (DU 14) acupoints following model establishment.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Somatosensory asymmetry and forelimb use asymmetry were tested, as well as NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex at 4, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.RESULTS:Acupuncture improved neurological function and significantly decreased NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Acupuncture can improve neurological function, potentially via inhibition of NF-κB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.Zhenyan Li Guangwei Zhong Sujuan Huang Yunsheng Liu Sue Wang Wei Li 2010Neural Regeneration Research2010,5,14:4
Properties of coarse particles in suspended particulate matter of the North Yellow Sea during summer显示文摘Fine particles in seawater commonly form large porous aggregates. Aggregate density and settling velocity determine the behavior of this suspended particulate matter(SPM) within the water column. However, few studies of aggregate particles over a continental shelf have been undertaken. In our case study, properties of aggregate particles, including size and composition, over the continental shelf of the North Yellow Sea were investigated. During a scienti?c cruise in July 2016, in situ ef fective particle size distributions of SPM at 10 stations were measured, while temperature and turbidity measurements and samples of water were obtained from surface, middle, and bottom layers. Dispersed and inorganic particle size distributions were determined in the laboratory. The in situ SPM was divided into(1) small particles(<32 μm),(2) medium particles(32–256 μm) and(3) large particles(>256 μm). Large particles and medium particles dominated the total volume concentrations(VCs) of in situ SPM. After dispersion, the VCs of medium particles decreased to low values(<0.1 μL/L). The VCs of large particles in the surface and middle layers also decreased markedly, although they had higher peak values(0.1–1 μL/L). This suggests that almost all in situ medium particles and some large particles were aggregated, while other large particles were single particles. Correlation analysis showed that primary particles <32 μm in?uenced the formation of these aggregates. Microscopic examination revealed that these aggregates consisted of both organic and inorganic ?ne particles, while large particles were mucus-bound organic aggregates or individual plankton. The vertical distribution of coarser particles was clearly related to water strati?cation. Generally, medium aggregate particles were dominant in SPM of the bottom layer. A thermocline blocked resuspension of?ne material into upper layers, yielding low VCs of medium-sized aggregate particles in the surface layer.Abundant large biogenic particles were present in both surface and middle layers.ZHANG Kainan WANG Zhenyan LI Wenjian YAN Jun 2019Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2019,37,1:4
Physical oceanography of the Caroline M4 seamount in the tropical Western Pacific Ocean in summer 2017显示文摘Physical oceanography plays an important role in the formation of submarine sediments, and the distribution of nutriments and biocenoses in seamounts. The M4 seamount is located in the Caroline Island Ridge of the Western Pacific Ocean. The physical properties around M4 seamount are preliminarily analyzed based on the in-situ data obtained in summer 2017 in Caroline M4 seamount and open-sourced data.We found that the water in the upper 200 m is controlled by the westward North Equatorial Current(NEC),while the water between 300-1000 m is dominated by the eastward North Equatorial Undercurrent(NEUC).The current direction fluctuates significantly below 300 m at upstream stations. At the same depth of the lee sides, the current direction changes with the distance from seamount. These are likely caused by the obstacle of M4 seamount. The calculation results show that there is an anticyclonic cap above M4 seamount caused by tidal rectification.Tidal currents in M4 seamount are squeezed by the topography and amplified, and the amplified tidal currents play a dominant role in M4 seamount.First, the circulation system generated by the interaction of the amplified tidal current and M4 seamount drives the upward/downward movement of the isotherms.Secondly, the thickness of the surface turbulent layer is changed with the tidal phase.Thirdly, high turbulent diffusivities are found in the bottom of M4 seamount, and these are most likely attributed to the turbulent mixing induced by the mutual effect between semidiurnal tidal currents and steep bathymetry. This article of physical oceanography provides scientific basis for further analysis of the distribution of biological community and deposition mechanism in M4 seamount.Xingyu SHI Zhenyan WANG Haijun HUANG 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,5:3
Evolution of kaolinite subgroup minerals and mixed-layer illite/smectite in the Paleogene Damintun Depression in Liaohe Basin of China and its implication for paleotemperature显示文摘The oil-rich Damintun Depression is located in the Liaohe Basin, Northeast China, and was formed during the Paleogene. The major oil-producing strata in the depression are mudstone and shale. To explore the burial diagenetic history of the basin and the formation thresholds of hydrocarbons, the characters of the kaolinite subgroup minerals and mixed-layer illite/smectite in the mudstone and the shale are studied by using X-ray diffraction, electron probe, scanning electron microscope, and Fourier infrared spectrum. The kaolinite subgroup consists of kaolinite and halloysite. The kaolinite is flake-like or vermiform-like. The halloysite is in long tubular shape and its length is related to its iron content. A longer tube has lower iron content. The crystallinity of kaolinite is 0.40 °2θ, and its degree of order increases from 0.03 to 1.17 with the burial depth. Kaolinite is in disorder when the buried depth is less than or equal to 2479 m , and it is partially ordered when the buried depth is greater than 2479 m. Kaolinite is supposed to turn into dickite when the depth is greater than 2550 m, but low penetrability and low porosity of the shale and mudstone prevent such a change. The mixed-layer illite/smectite changes from disorder to order continually as the buried depth increases. Its disorder (R0I/S), as defined by illite layer content (I%), is smaller than 50% at depths less than 2550.25 m. Based on Hoffman & Hower’s model, the paleo-geothermal gradients of 3.37–3.76°C/100 m (3.57°C /100 m on average) can be derived in the Paleocene Damintun Depression, which is significantly higher than the present geothermal gradient (2.9°C/100 m). The threshold depth of the oil formation in the depression is about 2550 m.ZHAO Ming JI JunFeng CHEN ZhenYan CHEN XiaoMing CUI XiangDong WANG YanShan 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,1:3
The increased storage of suspended particulate matter in the upper water of the tropical Western Pacific during the 2015/2016 super El Nino event显示文摘The climate variability induced by the El Nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)cycle drives significant changes in the physical state of the tropical Western Pacific, which has important impacts on the upper ocean carbon cycle.During 2015-2016,a super El Nino event occurred in the equatorial Pacific.Suspended particulate matter(SPM)data and related environmental observations in the tropical Western Pacific were obtained during two cruses in Dec.2014 and 2015,which coincided with the early and peak stages of this super El Nino event.Compared with the marine environments in the tropical Western Pacific in Dec.2014,an obviously enhanced upwelling occurred in the Mindanao Dome region;the nitrate concentration in the euphotic zone almo st tripled;and the size, mass concentration, and volume concentration of SPM obviously increased in Dec.2015.The enhanced upwelling in the Mindanao Dome region carried cold but eutrophic water upward from the deep ocean to shallow depths, even into the euphotic zone, which disrupted the previously N-limited conditions and induced a remarkable increase in phytoplankton blooms in the euphotic zone. The se results reveal the mechanism of how nutrient-limited ecosystems in the tropical Western Pacific respond to super El Nino events. In the context of the ENSO cycle,if predicted changes in biogenic particles occur, the proportion of carbon storage in the tropical Western Pacific is estimated to be increased by more than 52%,ultimately affecting the regional and possibly even global carbon cycle. This paper highlights the prospect for long-term prediction of the impact of a super El Nino event on the global carbon cycle and has profound implications for understanding El Nino events.Wei GAO Zhenyan WANG Xuegang LI Haijun HUANG 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,5:2
Spatial variations of tidal water level and their impact on the exposure patterns of tidal land on the central Jiangsu coast显示文摘The exposed area of intertidal zone varies with tidal water level changes. If intercomparisons of satellite images are adopted as a method to determine geomorphological changes of the intertidal zone in response to accretion or erosion processes, then the effect of water level variations must be evaluated. In this study, two Landsat TM images overpassing the central Jiangsu coastal waters on 2 January and 7 March 2002,respectively,were treated by the changing detection analysis using Image Differencing and Post-classification Comparison. The simultaneous tide level data from four tide gauge stations along the coast were used for displaying the spatial variations of water levels and determining the elevations of waterlines. The results show that the spatial variations of water levels are highly significant in the central Jiangsu coastal waters. The huge differences of tidal land exposure patterns between the two imaging times are related mainly to the spatial variations of tidal water levels, which are controlled by the differences in tidal phases for different imaging times and the spatial variations of water level over the study area at each imaging time. Under complex tidal conditions,e.g.,those of the central Jiangsu coastal waters, the tide-surge model should be used to eliminate effectively the effects of water level variations on remote sensing interpretation of geomorphological changes in the intertidal zone.WANG Zhenyan GAO Shu HUANG Haijun 2010Acta Oceanologica Sinica2010,29,1:2

Experimental study on the local similarity scaling of the turbulence spectrum in the turbulent boundary layer显示文摘The streamwise fluctuating velocity in the turbulent boundary layer is measured under approximately medium Reynolds Number by hot wire in order to investigate the scaling properties of the overlapped turbulent spectrum among energy-containing area, inertial subrange and dissipation range based on FFT analysis. The experiment indicates that the high Reynolds flow reported before is not indispensable to produce -1 scaling. So far as the measured position is provided with much higher spatial resolution and enough closing to the wall, -1 scaling is determinate to exist when approaching medium Reynolds. The scaling ranges are supposed to begin at inner scale and end in outer scale, which reveals the local similarity of the energy spectrum over the energy-containing eddies near the wall. In the logarithmic area (y+ > 130), -5/3 scaling occurs in the energy spectrum, while moving away from the wall with Reynolds numbers increasing, the inertial subrange extends to the lower wavenumbers. On the condition k1η 0.1, the curves of the turbulence spectrum in the logarithmic layer are superposed, which expresses the similarity of turbulence energy distributed in Komogorov scaling area and exhibits local isotropy characteristics by virtue of the viscous dissipation.XIA ZhenYan JIANG Nan TIAN Yan WANG YuChun 2009Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2009,52,6:1

Effect of Rare Earth (Niobium) on Costed and Hot-Rolled Microstructure and Properties of Heavy Rail Steels显示文摘A compared investigation was made on the microstructure and mechanical properties of continuous casting square blanks of BNbRE and U71Mn heavy rail steels having eutectoid composition. The variation of solidified structure of the square blanks was demonstrated by measuring hardness. The observation to the structure and inclusions in the head, waist and base of the hot-rolled rails of the test steels were carried out with optical microscope and SEM. It is found that the casting blanks of both tested steels compose of three areas with constant hardness and three hardness varying areas, and there is considerable P-eutectic structure in the blank of the U71Mn steel. The distribution of the inclusions in the U71Mn steel rail is mainly oxides in both rail head and rail base, and is mainly MnS in the waist of the rail. There has strong effect of the addition of rare earth elements on them. The discussion on these results was made.Yu Ning Sun Zhenyan Ji Jingwen Ren Xinjia Wang Yunsheng Wang Longmei 2005Journal of Rare Earths2005,23,5:1
Acupuncture at the San Jiao meridian affects brain stem tissue G protein content in a rat migraine model显示文摘BACKGROUND:G protein is closely associated with vasomotion.Vasomotor dysfunction accompanies migraine attack.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of the San Jiao meridian acupuncture on G protein content in a rat migraine model.DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:The present randomized grouping, cellular and molecular biological level trial was performed at the Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine,Xiangya Hospital,Central South University & Key Laboratory for Tumor Proteomics of Ministry of Health between October 2003 and June 2004.MATERIALS:Forty healthy, male,Sprague Dawley rats were included in this study. The G6805-2A electro-acupuncture apparatus was a product of Shanghai Huayi Medical Instrument Factory,China.Nitroglycerin was produced by Guangzhou Mingxing Pharmaceutical Factory,China.Antibodies against inhibitory and stimulatory G proteins were purchased from Sigma Chemical Company,USA.METHODS:All 40 rats were randomly and evenly divided into 4 groups. In the blank control group, the rats remained untouched.Rats from the normal control group were subcutaneously administered 2 mL/kg physiological saline. In the model group, migraine was induced with a subcutaneous injection of 10 mg/kg nitroglycerin(5 g/L),and the rats received no further treatment. In the acupuncture-treated group,30 minutes after migraine induction, acupuncture was performed at the bilateral Waiguan(SJ 5) and Yifeng(SJ 17) points, with an acupuncture depth of 1 mm.Electric-stimulation parameters of 20 Hz for low frequency,40 Hz for high frequency, and 0.5-1.0 mA for current intensity were set.Ten acupuncture sessions were applied, with 20-minute low-frequency and 20-minute high-frequency stimulation and 3 seconds of interval time.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Inhibitory and stimulatory G protein contents were detected by Western blot analysis.RESULTS:At 4 hours after migraine induction, compared with the blank control and normal control groups, stimulatory G protein concentration was significantly increased, while inhibitory G protein levels were significantly decreased in the model group(P < 0.01).In the acupuncture-treated group, both stimulatory and inhibitory G protein concentrations were significantly increased following acupuncture treatment(P < 0.01),but stimulatory G protein levels were less and the inhibitory G protein concentrations were greater compared to the model group(P < 0.01).There was no significant difference in stimulatory and inhibitory G protein levels between the blank control and normal control groups(P > 0.05).CONCLUSION:Dysfunctional G protein signal transductions in the rat brain stem may be responsible for migraine attack.Acupuncture at the San Jiao meridian ameliorates migraines by mediating the G protein signal transduction pathway.Sue Wang Wei Li Guangwei Zhong Zhenyan Li Lingbo Wen 2008Neural Regeneration Research2008,3,9:1

Observation of physical oceanography at the Y3 seamount (Yap Arc) in winter 2014显示文摘Seamounts aff ect the surrounding physical oceanography and form unique dynamic processes. The infl uences of these processes on biological and sedimentary distributions are quite diff erent in seamount areas at diff erent depths. The Y3 seamount is located in the Yap Arc of the tropical Western Pacifi c Ocean. The water depth of its summit is~280 m.Based on fi eld data obtained in December 2014 and other open-access data, the physical oceanography around the Y3 seamount was preliminarily analyzed. The results show that the upper layer(0-150 m)was under the infl uence of the westward-fl owing North Equatorial Current(NEC),while the eastward-fl owing North Equatorial Undercurrent(NEUC)controlled the water between 200-800 m.The NEC was strong and steady, but the NEUC was disturbed by the Y3 seamount. The cold dome above the Y3 seamount was not caused by a Taylor cap or tidal rectifi cation but probably by upwelling during the survey time.Tidal currents were squeezed against topography and greatly amplifi ed in the Y3 seamount. The thicknesses of the surface turbulent layers were greatly infl uenced by the spring-neap tidal cycle. The turbulent diff usivities in the sea surface layer above the Y3 seamount were much larger than those in the open ocean.Calculations showed that the surface wind stress greatly aff ected the turbulent mixing in the surface layer of the Y3 seamount. The reciprocal action between the amplifi ed tidal currents and topography was the most likely cause of the turbulent mixing near the bottom of the Y3 seamount. This study can provide a scientifi c basis for further study of biological and depositional characteristics at the Y3 seamount.Zhenyan WANG Xingyu SHI Haijun HUANG 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,4:1
