| 1 | Temporal trends in organophosphorus pesticides use and concentrations in river water in Japan, and risk assessment显示文摘We reviewed organophosphorus pesticide use in Japan between 1982 and 2016 using data from the National Institute of Environmental Studies. Organophosphorus pesticide concentrations in river water throughout Japan were taken from the literature, and risk assessments were performed for some organophosphorus pesticides based on risk quotients and hazard quotients. Assessments were performed for 20 common pesticides,including insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides. The amounts used decreased in the order: insecticides > herbicides > fungicides. Organophosphorus insecticide and fungicide use have decreased over the last four decades, but organophosphorus herbicide use has increased. During this period, annual organophosphorus pesticide use was the highest for chlorpyrifos(105,263 tons/year) and the lowest for glyphosate-sodium(8 tons/year). The ecotoxicological risk assessment indicated that diazinon and fenitrothion posed strong risks to the Japanese aquatic environment, and chlorpyrifos and malathion have moderate risks. None of the pesticides that were assessed posed significant risks to humans.Continued use of organophosphorus pesticides in Japan may cause strong risks to aquatic environments. | 3 | Long term outcome of antiviral therapy in patients with hepatitis B associated decompensated cirrhosis显示文摘AIM To investigate survival rate and incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in patients with decompensated cirrhosis in the antiviral era.METHODS We used the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment. Korea's health insurance system is a public single-payer system. The study population consisted of 286871 patients who were prescribed hepatitis B antiviral therapy for the first time between 2007 and 2014 in accordance with the insurance guidelines.Overall, 48365 antiviral treatment-na?ve patients treated between 2008 and 2009 were included, and each had a follow-up period ≥ 5 years. Data were analyzed for the 1 st decompensated chronic hepatitis B(CHB) and treatment-na?ve patients(n = 7166). RESULTS The mean patient age was 43.5 years. The annual mortality rates were 2.4%-19.1%, and 5-year cumulative mortality rate was 32.6% in 1^(st) decompensated CHB treatment-na?ve subjects. But the annual mortality rates sharply decreased to 3.4%(2.4%-4.9%, 2-5 year) after one year of antiviral treatment. Incidence of HCC at first year was 14.3%, the annual incidence of HCC decreased to 2.5%(1.8%-3.7%, 2-5 year) after one year. 5-year cumulative incidence of HCC was 24.1%. Recurrence rate of decompensated event was 46.9% at first year, but the annual incidence of second decompensation events in decompensated CHB treatment-na?ve patients was 3.4%(2.1%-5.4%, 2-5 year) after one year antiviral treatment. 5-year cumulative recurrence rate of decompensated events was 60.6%. | 4 | Lead?Free Halide Double Perovskite Materials: A New Superstar Toward Green and Stable Optoelectronic Applications显示文摘Lead-based halide perovskites have emerged as excellent semiconductors for a broad range of optoelectronic applications, such as photovoltaics, lighting, lasing and photon detection. However, toxicity of lead and poor stability still represent significant challenges. Fortunately, halide double perovskite materials with formula of A_2M(I)M(III)X_6 or A_2M(IV)X_6 could be potentially regarded as stable and green alternatives for optoelectronic applications, where two divalent lead ions are substituted by combining one monovalent and one trivalent ions, or one tetravalent ion. Here, the article provides an up-to-date review on the developments of halide double perovskite materials and their related optoelectronic applications including photodetectors, X-ray detectors, photocatalyst, light-emitting diodes and solar cells. The synthesized halide double perovskite materials exhibit exceptional stability, and a few possess superior optoelectronic properties. However, the number of synthesized halide double perovskites is limited, and more limited materials have been developed for optoelectronic applications to date. In addition, the band structures and carrier transport properties of the materials are still not desired, and the films still manifest low quality for photovoltaic applications. | 5 | Mismatched effects of receptor interacting protein kinase-3 on hepatic steatosis and inflammation in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘AIM To validate the effects of receptor interacting protein kinase-3(RIP3) deletion in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) and to clarify the mechanism of action.METHODS Wild-type(WT) and RIP3 knockout(KO) mice werefed normal chow and high fat(HF) diets for 12 wk. The body weight was assessed once weekly. After 12 wk, the liver and serum samples were extracted. The liver tissue expression levels of RIP3, microsomal triglyceride transfer protein, protein disulfide isomerase, apolipoprotein-B, X-box binding protein-1, sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c, fatty acid synthase, cluster of differentiation-36, diglyceride acyltransferase, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha, tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α), and interleukin-6 were assessed. Oleic acid treated primary hepatocytes from WT and RIP3 KO mice were stained with Nile red. The expression of inflammatory cytokines, including chemokine(C-X-C motif) ligand(CXCL) 1, CXCL2, and TNF-α, in monocytes was evaluated.RESULTS RIP3 KO HF diet fed mice showed a significant gain in body weight, and liver weight, liver to body weight ratio, and liver triglycerides were increased in HF diet fed RIP3 KO mice compared to HF diet fed WT mice. RIP3 KO primary hepatocytes also had increased intracellular fat droplets compared to WT primary hepatocytes after oleic acid treatment. RIP3 overexpression decreased hepatic fat content. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that the expression of very-low-density lipoproteins secretion markers(microsomal triglyceride transfer protein, protein disulfide isomerase, and apolipoprotein-B) was significantly suppressed in RIP3 KO mice. The overall NAFLD Activity Score was the same between WT and RIP3 KO mice; however, RIP3 KO mice had increased fatty change and decreased lobular inflammation compared to WT mice. Inflammatory signals(CXCL1/2, TNF-α, and interleukin-6) increased after lipopolysaccharide and pancaspase inhibitor(necroptotic condition) treatment in monocytes. | 7 | Autonomous navigation for a wolfberry picking robot using visual cues and fuzzy control显示文摘Lycium barbarum commonly known as wolfberry or Goji is considered an important ingredient in Japanese,Korean,Vietnamese,and Chinese food and medicine.It is cultivated extensively in these countries and is usually harvested manually,which is laborintensive and tedious task.To improve the efficiency of harvesting and reduce manual labor,automatic harvesting technology has been investigated by many researchers in recent years.In this paper,an autonomous navigation algorithm using visual cues and fuzzy control is proposed for Wolfberry orchards.At first,we propose a new weightage(2.4B-0.9G-R)to convert a color image into a grayscale image for better identification of the trunk of Lycium barbarum,the minimum positive circumscribed rectangle is used to describe the contours.Then,using the contour points the least square method is used to fit the navigation line and a region of interest(ROI)is computed that improves the realtime accuracy of the system.Finally,a set of fuzzy controllers,for pneumatic steering system,is designed to achieve real-time autonomous navigation in wolfberry orchard.Static image experiments show that the average accuracy rate of the algorithm is above 90%,and the average time consumption is approximately 162 ms,with good robustness and real-time performance.The experimental results show that when the speed is 1 km/h,the maximum lateral deviation is less than 6.2 cm and the average lateral deviation is 2.9 cm,which meets the requirements of automatic picking of wolfberry picking robot in real-world environments. | Yue Ma Wenqiang Zhang Waqar S.Qureshi Chao Gao Chunlong Zhang Wei Li | 2021 | Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,1: | 7 |
| 8 | Prognosis of lymphotropic invasive micropapillary breast carcinoma analyzed by using data from the National Cancer Database显示文摘Background:Invasive micropapillary carcinoma(IMPC)is an uncommon subtype of breast cancer.Previous studies of this subtype demonstrated a higher propensity for lymph node metastases as compared with invasive ductal carci-noma(IDC).The purpose of the present study was to determine the clinical characteristics,outcomes,and propensity for lymph node metastasis of patients with IMPC of the breast recorded in the National Cancer Database(NCDB).Methods:Records of patients with IMPC diagnosed between 2004 and 2014 were retrieved from the NCDB.Log-rank test was performed to evaluate associations of clinical characteristics with overall survival(OS).Cox proportional hazards model was used to determine variables associated with OS.Results:Overall,2660 patients with IMPC met the selection criteria;the 5-year OS rate was 87.5%and 24.9%of patients had nodal involvement at presentation.Patients with≥4 positive lymph nodes had shorter OS than node-negative patients,whereas patients with 1-3 positive nodes had similar OS to node-negative patients.Age<65 years,receipt of radiotherapy,and estrogen receptor positivity were also associated with prolonged OS.The benefit of radiotherapy was limited to IMPC patients undergoing lumpectomy;there was no benefit for the patients undergoing mastectomy(regardless of nodal positivity/negativity).Conclusions:Favorable prognostic factors of IMPC patients included age<65 years,<4 positive lymph nodes,receipt of radiotherapy,and estrogen receptor positivity.The results presented herein suggest a survival benefit asso-ciated with radiotherapy in IMPC treatment,though this may be limited to the patients treated with lumpectomy. | Gary D.Lewis Yan Xing Waqar Haque Tejal Patel Mary Schwartz Albert Chen Andrew Farach Sandra S.Hatch E.Brian Butler Jenny Chang Bin S.Teh | 2019 | Cancer Communications2019,39,1: | 7 |
| 9 | Viable but nonculturable bacteria and their resuscitation:implications for cultivating uncultured marine microorganisms显示文摘Culturing has been the cornerstone of microbiology since Robert Koch first successfully cultured bacteria in the late nineteenth century. However, even today, the majority of microorganisms in the marine environment remain uncultivated. There are various explanations for the inability to culture bacteria in the laboratory, including lack of essential nutrients, osmotic support or incubation conditions, low growth rate, development of micro-colonies, and the presence of senescent or viable but nonculturable (VBNC) cells. In the marine environment, many bacteria have been associated with dormancy, as typified by the VBNC state. VBNC refers to a state where bacteria are metabolically active, but are no longer culturable on routine growth media. It is apparently a unique survival strategy that has been adopted by many microorganisms in response to harsh environmental conditions and the bacterial cells in the VBNC state may regain culturability under favorable conditions. The resuscitation of VBNC cells may well be an important way to cultivate the otherwise uncultured microorganisms in marine environments. Many resuscitation stimuli that promote the restoration of culturability have so far been identified;these include sodium pyruvate, quorum sensing autoinducers, resuscitation-promoting factors Rpfs and YeaZ, and catalase. In this review, we focus on the issues associated with bacterial culturability, the diversity of bacteria entering the VBNC state, mechanisms of induction into the VBNC state, resuscitation factors of VBNC cells and implications of VBNC resuscitation stimuli for cultivating these otherwise uncultured microorganisms. | 11 | Osthol attenuates hepatic steatosis via decreased triglyceride synthesis not by insulin resistance显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the effects of osthol on intrahepatic fat synthesis, β-oxidation, inflammation, and insulin resistance by multifaceted analysis.METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats(n = 30) were randomly divided into control, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD), and osthol groups. NAFLD and osthol groups were fed with a high-fat diet for 14 wk. After 8 wk of the high-fat diet, the osthol group also received osthol 20 mg/kg orally 5 times/wk. To assess the insulin resistance, oral glucose tolerance was performed at the end of 14 wk. Immunohistochemical(4-HNE, F4/80) and hematoxylin and eosin(HE) staining wereperformed on liver tissue extracts after animal sacrifice at 14 wk. SREBP1 c, FAS, SCD-1, PPAR-α, CROT, MCP-1, IRS-1, and IRS-2 mRNA expressions were assessed with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS: HE staining revealed that, compared with the NAFLD group, the osthol group showed significantly decreased intrahepatic fat content(39.4% vs 21.0%; P = 0.021). SREBP1 c expression in the NAFLD group increased compared to controls(P = 0.0001), while osthol treatment decreased SREBP1 c expression compared with the NAFLD group(P = 0.0059). In the osthol group, intrahepatic FAS and SCD-1, which act downstream of SREBP1 c, decreased significantly compared with the NAFLD group.
