| 2 | Comparative genomic and transcriptomic analyses uncover the molecular basis of high nitrogen-use efficiency in the wheat cultivar Kenong 9204显示文摘Studying the regulatory mechanisms that drive nitrogen-use efficiency(NUE)in crops is important for sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.In this study,we generated a high-quality genome assembly for the high-NUE wheat cultivar Kenong 9204 and systematically analyzed genes related to nitrogen uptake and metabolism.By comparative analyses,we found that the high-affinity nitrate transporter gene family had expanded in Triticeae.Further studies showed that subsequent functional differentiation endowed the expanded family members with saline inducibility,providing a genetic basis for improving the adaptability of wheat to nitrogen deficiency in various habitats.To explore the genetic and molecular mechanisms of high NUE,we compared genomic and transcriptomic data from the high-NUE cultivar Kenong 9204(KN9204)and the low-NUE cultivar Jing 411 and quantified their nitrogen accumulation under high-and low-nitrogen conditions.Compared with Jing 411,KN9204 absorbed significantly more nitrogen at the reproductive stage after shooting and accumulated it in the shoots and seeds.Transcriptome data analysis revealed that nitrogen deficiency clearly suppressed the expression of genes related to cell division in the young spike of Jing 411,whereas this suppression of gene expression was much lower in KN9204.In addition,KN9204 maintained relatively high expression of NPF genes for a longer time than Jing 411 during seed maturity.Physiological and transcriptome data revealed that KN9204 was more tolerant of nitrogen deficiency than Jing 411,especially at the reproductive stage.The high NUE of KN9204 is an integrated effect controlled at different levels.Taken together,our data provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms of NUE and important gene resources for improving wheat cultivars with a higher NUE trait. | Xiaoli Shi Fa Cui Xinyin Han Yilin He Long Zhao Na Zhang Hao Zhang Haidong Zhu Zhexin Liu Bin Ma Shusong Zheng Wei Zhang Jiajia Liu Xiaoli Fan Yaoqi Si Shuiquan Tian Jianqing Niu Huilan Wu Xuemei Liu Zhuo Chen Deyuan Meng Xiaoyan Wang Liqiang Song Lijing Sun Jie Han Hui Zhao Jun Ji Zhiguo Wang Xiaoyu He Ruilin Li Xuebin Chi Chengzhi Liang Beifang Niu Jun Xiao Junming Li Hong-Qing Ling | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,9: | 6 |
| 3 | Three-dimensional paper-like graphene framework with highly orientated laminar structure as binder-free supercapacitor electrode显示文摘A free-standing paper-like three-dimensional graphene framework(3DGF) with orientated laminar structure and interconnected macropores, was obtained by the hard template-directed ordered assembly. As the sacrificial templates, polystyrene(PS) latex spheres were assembled with graphene oxide(GO) to build up a sandwich type composite film, followed by heat removal of which with a simultaneous reduction of GO. | 7 | Unfolded protein response activation compensates endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation deficiency in Arabidopsis显示文摘Abiotic stresses often disrupt protein folding and induce endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress. There is a sophisticated ER quality control(ERQC) system to mitigate the effects of malfunctioning proteins and maintain ER homeostasis. The accumulation of misfolded proteins in the ER activates the unfolded protein response(UPR) to enhance ER protein folding and the degradation of misfolded proteins mediate by ERassociated degradation(ERAD). That ERQC reduces abiotic stress damage has been well studied in mammals and yeast. However, in plants, both ERAD and UPR have been studied separately and found to be critical for plant abiotic stress tolerance. In this study, we discovered thatUPR-associated transcription factors Atb ZIP17, AtbZIP28 and AtbZIP60 responded to tunicamycin(TM) and Na Cl induced ER stress and subsequently enhanced Arabidopsis thaliana abiotic stress tolerance. They regulated the expression level of ER chaperones and the HRD1-complex components. | 14 | New loci for refractive errors and ocular biometric parameters in young Chinese Han adults显示文摘Myopia has become a major public health issue with an increasing prevalence.There are still individuals who experience similar environmental risk factors and,yet,remain non-myopic.Thus,there might be genetic factors protecting people from myopia.Considering the opposite ocular characteristics of primary angle closure glaucoma(PACG)to myopia and possible common pathway between them,we propose that certain risk genes for PACG might act as a protective factor for myopia.In this study,2,678 young adults were genotyped for 37 targeted single nucleotide polymorphisms.Compared with emmetropia,rs1401999(allele C:OR=0.795,P=0.03;genotype in dominant model:OR=0.759,P=0.02)and rs1258267(allele A:OR=0.824,P=0.03;genotype in dominant model:OR=0.603,P=0.01)were associated with low to moderate myopia and high myopia,respectively.Genotype under recessive model of rs11024102 was correlated with myopia(OR=1.456,P=0.01),low to moderate myopia(OR=1.443,P=0.02)and high myopia(OR=1.453,P=0.02).However,these associations did not survive Bonferroni correction.Moreover,rs1401999,rs1258267,and rs11024102 showed associations with certain ocular biometric parameters in different groups.Our study suggests that ABCC5,CHAT and PLEKHA7 might be associated with refractive errors by contributing to the regulation of ocular biometry,in terms of uncorrected results and their biological functions. | Yunyun Sun Zi-Bing Jin Shifei Wei Hongyan Jia Kai Cao Jianping Hu Caixia Lin Wenzai An Jiyuan Guo He LiJing Fu Shi-Ming Li Ningli Wang the Anyang University Students Eye Study Group the Anyang University Students Eye Study Group | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,10: | 1 |

| 19 | Scientific objectives of the Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) mission显示文摘The Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) is a proposed space-based X-ray telescope for detecting X-ray emissions from the hot gas content in our universe. With its unprecedented spatially-resolved high-resolution spectroscopy and large field of view,the HUBS mission will be uniquely qualified to measure the physical and chemical properties of the hot gas in the interstellar medium, the circumgalactic medium, the intergalactic medium, and the intracluster medium. These measurements will be valuable for two key scientific goals of HUBS, namely to unravel the AGN and stellar feedback physics that governs the formation and evolution of galaxies, and to probe the baryon budget and multi-phase states from galactic to cosmological scales. In addition to these two goals, the HUBS mission will also help us solve some problems in the fields of galaxy clusters, AGNs, difuse X-ray backgrounds, supernova remnants, and compact objects.
