Design of single-phased magnesium alloys with typically high solubility rare earth elements for biomedical applications:Concept and proof显示文摘Rare earth elements(REEs)have been long applied in magnesium alloys, among which the mischmetal-containing WE43 alloy has already got the CE mark approval for clinical application.A considerable amount of REEs(7 wt%)is needed in that multi-phased alloy to achieve a good combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. However, the high complex RE addition accompanied with multiple second phases may bring the concern of biological hazards.Single-phased Mg-RE alloys with simpler compositions were proposed to improve the overall performance,i.e.,“Simpler alloy, better performance”.The single-phased microstructure can be successfully obtained with typical high-solubility REEs(Ho,Er or Lu)through traditional smelting, casting and extrusion in a wide compositional range.A good corrosion resistance with a macroscopically uniform corrosion mode was guaranteed by the homogeneously single-phased microstructure. The bimodal-grained structure with plenty of sub-grain microstructures allow us to minimize the RE addition to<1 wt%,without losing mechanical properties. The single-phased Mg-RE alloys show comparable mechanical properties to the clinically-proven Mg-based implants. They exhibited similar in-vitro and in-vivo performances(without local or systematic toxicity in SD-rats)compared to a high purity magnesium. In addition, metal elements in our single-phased alloys can be gradually excreted through the urinary system and digestive system, showing no consistent accumulation of RE in main organs,i.e.,less burden on organs. The novel concept in this study focuses on the simplification of Mg-RE based alloys for biomedical purpose, and other biodegradable metals with single-phased microstructures are expected to be explored.Dong Bian Xiao Chu Jin Xiao Zhipei Tong He Huang Qinggong Jia Jianing Liu Wenting Li Hui Yu Yue He Limin Ma Xiaolan Wang Mei Li Tao Yang Wenhan Huang Chi Zhang Mengyu Yao Yu Zhang Zhigang Xu Shaokang Guan Yufeng Zheng 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,4:1
Optical Molecular Imaging Frontiers in Oncology: The Pursuit of Accuracy and Sensitivity显示文摘Cutting-edge technologies in optical molecular imaging have ushered in new frontiers in cancer research, clinical translation, and medical practice, as evidenced by recent advances in optical multimodality imaging, Cerenkov luminescence imaging(CLI), and optical imageguided surgeries. New abilities allow in vivo cancer imaging with sensitivity and accuracy that are unprecedented in conventional imaging approaches. The visualization of cellular and molecular behaviors and events within tumors in living subjects is improving our deeper understanding of tumors at a systems level. These advances are being rapidly used to acquire tumor-to-tumor molecular heterogeneity, both dynamically and quantitatively, as well as to achieve more effective therapeutic interventions with the assistance of real-time imaging. In the era of molecular imaging, optical technologies hold great promise to facilitate the development of highly sensitive cancer diagnoses as well as personalized patient treatment—one of the ultimate goals of precision medicine.Kun Wang Chongwei Chi Zhenhua Hu Muhan Liu Hui Hui Wenting Shang Dong Peng Shuang Zhang Jiezuo Ye Haixiao Liu Jie Tian 2015Engineering2015,1,3:1
Chromium transformation driven by iron redox cycling in basalt-derived paddy soil with high geological background values显示文摘The flooding and drainage of paddy fields has great effects on the transformation of heavy metals, however, the transformation of Cr in basalt-derived paddy soil with high geological background values was less recognized. The typical basalt-derived paddy soil was incubated under alternating redox conditions. The Cr fractions and the dynamics of Fe/N/S/C were examined. The HCl-extractable Cr increased under anaerobic condition and then decreased during aerobic stage. The UV-vis spectra of the supernatant showed that amounts of colloids were released under anaerobic condition, and then re-aggregated during aerobic phase. The scanning transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) revealed that Fe oxides were reduced and became dispersed during anaerobic stage, whereas Fe(Ⅱ) was oxidized and recrystallized under aerobic condition. Based on these results, a kinetic model was established to further distinguish the relationship between the transformation of Cr and Fe. During anaerobic phase, the reduction of Fe(Ⅲ) oxides not only directly released the structurally bound Cr, but also enhanced the breakdown of soil aggregation and dissolution of organic matter causing indirect mobilization of Cr. During aerobic phase, the oxidation of Fe (Ⅱ) and further recrystallization of newly formed Fe(Ⅲ) oxides might induce the re-aggregation of soil colloids and further incorporation of Cr. In addition, the kinetic model of Cr and Fe transformation was further verified in the pot experiment. The model-based findings demonstrated that the Cr transformation in the basalt-derived paddy soil with high geological background values was highly driven by redox sensitive iron cycling.Ke Zhang Yang Yang Wenting Chi Guojun Chen Yanhong Du Shiwen Hu Fangbai Li Tongxu Liu 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,3:0
Effects of zero-valent iron added in the flooding or drainage process on cadmium immobilization in an acid paddy soil显示文摘Zero-valent iron(ZVI)is a promising material for the remediation of Cd-contaminated paddy soils. However, the effects of ZVI added during flooding or drainage processes on cadmium(Cd)retention remain unclear.Herein,Cd-contaminated paddy soil was incubated for 40days of flooding and then for 15 days of drainage, and the underlying mechanisms of Cd immobilization coupled with Fe/S/N redox processes were investigated. The addition of ZVI to the flooding process was more conducive to Cd immobilization.Less potential available Cd was detected by adding ZVI before flooding, which may be due to the increase in paddy soil pH and newly formed secondary Fe minerals. Moreover, the reductive dissolution of Fe minerals promoted the release of soil colloids, thereby increasing significantly the surface sites and causing Cd immobilization.Additionally, the addition of ZVI before flooding played a vital role in Cd retention after soil drainage. In contrast, the addition of ZVI in the drainage phase was not conducive to Cd retention, which might be due to the rapid decrease in soil pH that inhibited Cd adsorption and further immobilization on soil surfaces. The findings of this study demonstrated that Cd availability in paddy soil was largely reduced by adding ZVI during the flooding period and provide a novel insight into the mechanisms of ZVI remediation in Cd-contaminated paddy soils.Hanbing Meng Shiwen Hu Zebin Hong Wenting Chi Guojun Chen Kuan Cheng QiWang Tongxu Liu Fangbai Li Kexue Liu Yang Yang 2024Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,4:0
Leaky-Wave Antennas for 5G/B5G Mobile Communication Systems:A Survey显示文摘Since leaky-wave antennas(LWAs)have the advantages of high directivity, low loss and structural simplicity,LWAs are very suitable for designing millimeter-wave(mmW)antennas.The purpose of this paper is to review the latest research progress of LWAs for 5G/B5G mobile communication systems.Firstly, the conventional classification and design methods of LWAs are introduced and the effects of the phase constant and attenuation constant on the radiation characteristics are discussed. Then two types of new LWAs for 5G/B5G mobile communication systems including broadband fixed-beam LWAs and frequencyfixed beam-scanning LWAs are summarized. Finally, the challenges and future research directions of LWAs for 5G/B5G mobile communication systems are presented.HE Yejun JIANG Jiachun ZHANG Long LI Wenting WONG Sai-Wai DENG Wei CHI Baoyong 2020ZTE Communications2020,18,3:0
