4Water-induced softening behavior of clay-rich sandstone in Lanzhou Water Supply Project,China显示文摘The strength of clay-rich sandstone decreases significantly when in contact with water due to softening effects.This scenario can pose a severe threat to the stability of water diversion tunnels during construction and operation periods.To address the issues related to water-induced softening in clay-rich sandstone zones in a water diversion tunnel of Lanzhou Water Supply Project,the microscopic and micromechanical variations of rocks due to increasing water content in two different zones i.e.zones A and B,were determined by various testing methods,such as X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thin section microscopy,micro-indentation test,sonic velocity test,and slake durability test.The microscopic analysis confirms the presence of montmorillonite mineral which is the dominant problematic geomaterial in engineering application.The integrity and durability of clay-rich sandstone were determined with sonic velocity and slake durability tests to calibrate the results obtained by the micro-indentation test.It shows that the elastic modulus and hardness of clay-rich sandstone decrease with the increase of saturation time,up to 144 h,which is more significant and rapid during early stage of saturation.After 144 h of saturation,the elastic modulus decreases by 89% and 97%,and the hardness decreases by 89% and 99% for zones A and B sandstones,respectively.The results of slake durability and sonic velocity indicate that zone A sandsto ne remains 56.19% durability after 144 h of saturation,while zone B sandstone loses its durability merely after 72 h of saturation.The clay-rich sandstone starts to dissolve in water when the saturation time exceeds 144 h.The significant decreases in strength and durability of clay-rich sandstone due to water-induced softening are serious threats to tunnel stability.The improvements in the strength of surrounding rock mass by grouting and permeability by installation of drainage galleries can reduce the damage caused by water-induced softening.Muhammad Usman Azhar Hui Zhou Fanjie Yang Adnan Younis Xinjing Lu Houguo Fang Yijun Geng 2020Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,3:3

6Generation of male-sterile soybean lines with the CRISPR/Cas9 system显示文摘Soybean [Glycine max(L.) Merr.] provides a rich source of plant protein and oil worldwide. The commercial use of transgenic technology in soybean has become a classical example of the application of biotechnology to crop improvement. Although genetically modified soybeans have achieved commercial success,hybrid soybean breeding is also a potential way to increase soybean yield. Soybean cytoplasmic malesterile(CMS) lines have been used in three-line hybrid breeding systems, but their application to exploiting soybean heterosis has been limited by rare germplasm resource of sterile lines. The generation of various genetic diversity male-sterile soybean lines will help to overcome the shortcoming. In this study,we used targeted editing of AMS homologs in soybean by CRISPR/Cas9 technology for the first time to generate stable male-sterile lines. Targeted editing of GmAMS1 resulted in a male-sterile phenotype,while editing of GmAMS2 failed to produce male-sterile lines. 7DASP: Defect and Dopant ab-initio Simulation Package显示文摘In order to perform automated calculations of defect and dopant properties in semiconductors and insulators, we developed a software package, the Defect and Dopant ab-initio Simulation Package(DASP), which is composed of four modules for calculating:(ⅰ) elemental chemical potentials,(ⅱ) defect(dopant) formation energies and charge-state transition levels,(ⅲ) defect and carrier densities and(ⅳ) carrier dynamics properties of high-density defects. DASP uses the materials genome database for quick determination of competing secondary phases when calculating the elemental chemical potential that stabilizes compound semiconductors. DASP calls the ab-initio software to perform the total energy, structural relaxation and electronic structure calculations of the defect supercells with different charge states, based on which the defect formation energies and charge-state transition levels are calculated. Then DASP can calculate the equilibrium densities of defects and electron and hole carriers as well as the Fermi level in semiconductors under different chemical potential conditions and growth/working temperature. For high-density defects, DASP can calculate the carrier dynamics properties such as the photoluminescence(PL) spectrum and carrier capture cross sections which can interpret the deep level transient spectroscopy(DLTS). 8Lower limit of thermal maturity for the carbonization of organic matter in marine shale and its exploration risk显示文摘Based on the drilling data of the Silurian Longmaxi Formation in the Sichuan Basin and periphery, SW China, the Ro lower limits and essential features of the carbonization of organic matter in over-high maturity marine shale were examined using laser Raman, electrical and physical property characterization techniques. Three preliminary conclusions are drawn:(1) The lower limit of Ro for the carbonization of Type I-II1 organic matter in marine shale is 3.5%; when the Ro is less than 3.4%, carbonization of organic matter won't happen in general; when the Ro ranges from 3.4% to 3.5%, non-carbonization and weak carbonization of organic matter may coexist; when the Ro is higher than 3.5%, the carbonization of organic matter is highly likely to take place.(2) Organic-rich shale entering carbonization phase have three basic characteristics: log resistivity curve showing a general 'slender neck' with low-ultralow resistance response, Raman spectra showing a higher graphite peak, and poor physical property(with matrix porosity of only less than 1/2 of the normal level).(3) The quality damage of shale reservoir caused by the carbonization of organic matter is almost fatal, which primarily manifests in depletion of hydrocarbon generation capacity, reduction or disappearance of organic pores and intercrystalline pores of clay minerals, and drop of adsorption capacity to natural gas. Therefore, the lower limit of Ro for the carbonization of Type I-II1 organic matter should be regarded as the theoretically impassable red line of shale gas exploration in the ancient marine shale formations. The organic-rich shale with low-ultralow resistance should be evaluated effectively in area selection to exclude the high risk areas caused by the carbonization of organic matter. 11Stochastic dynamics of conduction failure of action potential along nerve fiber with Hopf bifurcation显示文摘Action potentials can be induced by external electronic impulsive stimulations applied at one end of the unmyelinated fibers(C-fibers), while some action potentials fail to conduct to the other end of the fiber when the stimulation frequency becomes high. Such a phenomenon is called as conduction failure, which was observed in the biological experiments and related to the painful diabetic neuropathy, inflammation, and trauma in the previous studies. On-off firing pattern was recorded from the fiber when conduction failure happened. In the present study, the diffusion Hodgkin-Huxley(HH) model with resting state near a Hopf bifurcation is adopted to simulate the experimental observations. When the periodic electrical pulses with high frequency are applied to one end of the fiber described by the deterministic HH model, conduction failure and the corresponding firing patterns different from the on-off firing pattern are simulated. When noise is introduced to form the stochastic HH model, the firing pattern corresponding to conduction failure becomes the on-off firing pattern, which is characterised by transition behaviors between on-phase(continuous action potentials) and off-phase(a long quiescent state) and large variations in the durations of both phases. Furthermore, the increase of potassium conductance can enhance the conduction failure degree, which closely matches those observed in the experiment and is suggested to be related to the reduction of pain signals. 12Geological Conditions and Prospect Forecast of Shale Gas Formation in Qiangtang Basin, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘The presence of shale gas has been confirmed in almost every marine shale distribution area in North America. Formation conditions of shale gas in China are the most favorable for marine, organic-rich shale as well. But there has been little research focusing on shale gas in Qiangtang Basin, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where a lot of Mesozoic marine shale formations developed. Based on the survey results of petroleum geology and comprehensive test analysis data for Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, for the first time, this paper discusses characteristics of sedimentary development, thickness distribution, geochemistry, reservoir and burial depth of organic-rich shale, and geological conditions for shale gas formation in Qiangtang Basin. There are four sets of marine shale strata in Qiangtang Basin including Upper Triassic Xiaochaka Formation(T3x), Middle Jurassic Buqu Formation(J2b), Xiali Formation(J2x) and Upper Jurassic Suowa Formation(J3s), the sedimentary types of which are mainly bathyal-basin facies, open platform-platform margin slope facies, lagoon and tidal-flat facies, as well as delta facies. By comparing it with the indicators of gas shale in the main U.S. basins, it was found that the four marine shale formations in Qiangtang Basin constitute a multi-layer distribution of organic-rich shale, featuring a high degree of thickness and low abundance of organic matter, high thermal evolution maturity, many kinds of brittle minerals, an equivalent content of quartz and clay minerals, a high content of feldspar and low porosity, which provide basic conditions for an accumulation of shale gas resources. Xiaochaka Formation shale is widely distributed, with big thickness and the best gas generating indicators. It is the main gas source layer. Xiali Formation shale is of intermediate thickness and coverage area, with relatively good gas generating indicators and moderate gas formation potential. Buqu Formation shale and Suowa Formation shale are of relatively large thickness, and covering a small area, with poor gas generating indicators, and limited gas formation potential. The shale gas geological resources and technically recoverable resources were estimated by using geologic analogy method, and the prospective areas and potentially favorable areas for Mesozoic marine shale gas in Qiangtang Basin are forecast and analyzed. It is relatively favorable in a tectonic setting and indication of oil and gas, shale maturity, sedimentary thickness and gypsumsalt beds, and in terms of mineral association for shale gas accumulation.
