1Expression of calreticulin is associated with infiltration of T-cells in stage ⅢB colon cancer显示文摘AIM: To investigate the correlation between expression of calreticulin and infiltration of lymphocytes in stage ⅢB colon cancer. METHODS: Sixty-eight pathologically-confirmed speci-mens were obtained from stage ⅢB (T3N1M0) colon cancer patients who underwent radical resection between January 1999 and May 2002 at the Cancer Center of Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China. Immuno-histochemical analysis was performed to show infiltration of lymphocytes and expression of calreticulin in colon cancer. Association between calreticulin expression, infiltration of lymphocytes, and 5-year survival rate of patients was assessed. RESULTS: The expression level of calreticulin was lower in cancer nest than in its adjacent normal epithelium since 61.8% (42/68) of the samples were stained with calreticulin in colon cancer. The expression of calreticulin in colon cancer was associated with the infi ltration of CD45RO+ cells rather than with that of CD3+ cells. In addition, the stronger expression of calreticulin and the higher infiltration of CD3+ and CD45RO+ cells in colon cancer were associated with the higher 5-year survival rate of patients. 2Probabilistic ecological risk assessment for three chlorophenols in surface waters of China显示文摘Individual and combined assessment of risks of adverse effects to aquatic ecosystems of three chlorophenols(CPs),including 2,4dichlorophenol(2,4-DCP),2,4,6-trichlorophenol(2,4,6-TCP) and pentachlorophenol(PCP),were conducted.A probabilistic approach based on the concentrations of CPs in surface waters of China was used to determine the likelihood of adverse effects.The potential risk of CPs in surface waters of China was determined to be of concern,especially PCP and mixtures of CPs.The risks of adverse effects were examined as the joint probabilities of exposure and response.The joint probability for PCP was 0.271 in the worst case and 0.111 in the median case,respectively.Based on the cumulative probability,5% of aquatic organisms included in the assessment would be affected 21.36% of the time in the worst case and 5.99% of the time in median case,respectively.For the mixtures of CPs,the joint probability were 0.171 in the worst case and 0.503 in median case,respectively and 5% of species would be affected 49.83% of the time for the worst case and 12.72% in the median case,respectively.Risks of effects of the individual CPs,2,4-DCP and 2,4,6-TCP were deemed to be acceptable with a overlapping probability of < 0.1 with 5% of species being affected less than 4% of the time.Liqun Xing Hongling Liu John E Giesy Xiaowei Zhang Hongxia Yu 2012Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,2:7
3Synthesis and biological evaluation of 8-substituted and deglucuronidated scutellarin and baicalin analogues as antioxidant responsive element activators显示文摘Flavonoids are important bioactive dietary compounds, which are proved to be antioxidant responsive element (ARE) activators to defend against electrophilic toxicants and oxidative stress. The activators induce ARE gene transcription through Nrf2 factor, a major transcriptional stimulator of cytoprotective genes, relieved from a Keap1 complex. In this report, based on the structures of two flavonoids, scutellarin and baicalin, which are extracted from two common Chinese plants Dengzhanhua (Erigeron breviscapus (vant) Hand-Mazz) and Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis Georigi), respectively, we synthesized several 8-substituted and deglucuronidated analogues and identified the ARE activation effects of these flavonoids. We found that the Baicalin, deglucurnonidated Baicalin and diaza cyclopenta derivative were more active. Their dose-dependent upregulation activities of ARE and NQO1 and induction effects of Nrf2 were testified. 4Parkin deficiency accentuates chronic alcohol intake-induced tissue injury and autophagy defects in brain,liver and skeletal muscle显示文摘Alcoholism leads to organ injury including mitochondrial defect and apoptosis with evidence favoring a role for autophagy dysregulation in alcoholic damage.Parkin represents an autosomal recessive in herited gene for Parkins on's disease and an important member of selective autophagy for mitoch on dria.The associati on between Parkins on's disease and alcoholic injury remains elusive.This study aimed to examine the effect of parki n deficiency on chr onic alcohol in takeinduced organ injury in brain,liver and skeletal muscle(rectus femoris muscle).Adult parkinknockout(PRK-/-)and wild-type mice were placed on Liber-De Carli alcohol liquid diet(4%)for 12 weeks prior to assessment of liver enzymes,intraperitoneal glucose toleranee,protein carbonyl content apoptosis,hematoxylin and eosin morphological staining,and mitochondrial respiration(cytochrome c oxidase,NADH:cytochrome c reductase and succinate:cytochrome c reductase).Autophagy protein markers were monitored by western blot analysis.Our data revealed that chronic alcohol intake imposed liver injury as evidenced by elevated aspartate aminotransferase and alanine transaminase,glucose intoleranee,elevated protein carbonyl formation,apoptosis,focal inflammation,necrosis,microvesiculation,autophagy/mitophagy failure and dampened mitochondrial respiration(complexⅣ,complexesⅠandⅢ,and complexesⅡandⅢ)in the brain,liver and rectus femoris skeletal muscle.Although parkin ablation itself did not generate any notable effects on liver enzymes,insulin sensitivity,tissue carbonyl damage,apoptosis,tissue morphology,autophagy or mitochondrial respiration,it accentuated alcohol intake-induced tissue damage,apoptosis,morphological change,autophagy/mitophagy failure and mitochondrial injury without affecting insulin sensitivity.These data suggest that parkin plays an integral role in the preservation against alcohol-induced organ injury,apoptosis and mitochondrial damage.Hu Peng Xing Qin Sainan Chen Asli E Ceylan Maolong Dong Zhaofen Lin Jun Ren 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,6:3
5Effect of long-term fertilization on soil nitrate distribution显示文摘A thirteen years long term field fertilizer experiment was conducted to monitor the effect of different fertilization on soil nitrate distribution. The results showed: (1) Applying relative excessive N fertilizer could result large quantities of NO - 3 residue and NO - 3 movement downward in soil profiles; amending phosphate fertilizer or organic manure with nitrogen fertilizer together could significantly improve the status of NO - 3 leaching downward due to the balanced uptake of nutrients by crops. (2) Appropriate amounts of nitrogen fertilizer which was equal or smaller than the optimal fertilization rate could not result in more NO - 3 leaching in Northern China. 6Isolation and identifi cation of antimicrobial metabolites from sea anemone-derived fungus Emericella sp.SMA01显示文摘Marine symbiotic fungi represent an intriguing source of discovery of novel secondary metabolites with various biological activities.Sea anemones are benthic marine invertebrates,however,the cultivable symbiotic fungi residing in the sea anemones are paid few attentions compared to those derived from their cnidarian counterparts.Here we show the identification of antimicrobial secondary metabolites from the sea anemone-derived symbiotic fungi.Out offive isolated fungal strains,only the strain SMA01 showed strong antimicrobial activities,which was assigned into the genus Emericella based on the morphological characteristics and the ITS sequencing.Media swift from liquid fermentation to solid rice medium presented little influence on its antibacterial activity.A chemical investigation of the ethyl acetate extract of the Emericella sp.SMA01 led to discovery of the primary antibiotic metabolite phenazine-1-carboxylic acid.The IC_(50) values of the phenazine-1-carboxylic acid against Phytophthora capsici,Gibberella zeae,and Verticillium dahliae were determined to be 23.26-53.89μg/mL.To the best of our knowledge,this was the first report of Emericella sp.in sea anemones.The current study may benefit understanding of the defensive chemical interactions between the symbiotic fungi and their host sea anemones.Yang YUE Huahua YU Rongfeng LI Linfeng HU Song LIU Rong’e XING Pengcheng LI 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,3:2

8Natural variation of H3K27me3 modification in two Arabidopsis accessions and their hybrid显示文摘Histone modifications affect gene expression, but hthe mechanism and biological consequence of natural variation igin histone modifications remain unclear. Here, we generated Hgenome-wide integrated maps of H3K27me3 modification and transcriptome for Col, C24 and their F1 hybrid. A total of 1,828 genomic regions showing variation in H3K27me3 modification between Col and C24 were identified, most of which were associated with genic regions. Natural variation of H3K27me3 modification between parents could result in allelic bias of H3K27me3 in hybrids. Furthermore, we found that H3K27me3 variation between Col and C24 was negatively correlated with gene expression differences between two accessions, especially with those arising from the cis-effect. 9Effects of Slow-release Fertilizers and Sugarcane-specific Fertilizers on Yield and Quality of Sugarcane显示文摘The effects of slow-release fertilizers and sugarcane-specific fertilizers on the growth and quality of sugarcane were studied to provide a theoretical basis for cultivation of sugarcane with lower costs but higher efficiency. Field experiments were carried out in two major sugarcane areas in Guangxi and three fertilization treatments were studied: single application of compound fertilizers( treatment I),compound fertilizers + slow-release fertilizers( treatment II) and sugarcane-specific base fertilizers + sugarcane-specific topdressing( treatment III). Effects of equal fertilization conditions of treatment I,II and III on growth,yield and sugar of sugarcane were studied. The three fertilization treatments had little effects on emergence,tillering,and effective stems of sugarcane,but compared with the treatment of compound fertilizer( treatment I) with a ratio of N,P,and K of 1∶1∶1,treatment II using slow-release fertilizers as topdressing had better growth,higher plant height and stem diameter,so the yield was higher. Treatment III designed sugarcane-specific fertilizers with proper ratio according to fertilizer demands of sugarcane. Besides,the treatment III sugarcane-specific base fertilizers,containing certain amount of organic matters,could promote the sugar accumulation of sugarcane. Therefore,the sugarcane yield of treatment III was higher than that of treatment II. In conclusion,slow-release fertilizers and sugarcane-specific fertilizers can significantly increase sugarcane yield,especially sugarcane-specific fertilizers.
