| 2 | Alternative splicing of MaMYB16L regulates starch degradation in banana fruit during ripening显示文摘The alternative splicing of select genes is an important mechanism to regulate responses to endogenous and environmental signals in plants. However, the role of alternative splicing in regulating fruit ripening remains unclear. Here,we discovered that MaMYB16L,an R1-type MYB transcription factor, undergoes alternative splicing and generates two transcripts, the full-length isoform MaMYB16L and a truncated form MaMYB16S,in banana fruit.During banana fruit ripening, the alternative splicing process intensifies with downregulated MaMYB16L and upregulated MaMYB16S.Moreover,MaMYB16L is a transcriptional repressor that directly binds with the promoters of many genes associated with starch degradation and MaDREB2,a positive ripening regulator, and represses their expression. In contrast,MaMBY16S lacks a DNA-binding domain but competitively combines and forms non-functional heterodimers with functional MaMYB16L.MaMYB16L-MaMYB16S heterodimers decrease the binding capacity and transrepression activity of MaMYB16L.The downregulation of MaMYB16L and the upregulation of MaMYB16S,that is,a decreased ratio of active to non-active isoforms, facilitates the activation of ripening-related genes and thereby promotes fruit ripening.Furthermore, the transient overexpression of MaMYB16S promotes banana fruit ripening, whereas the overexpression of MaMYB16L delays this process. Therefore, the alternative splicing of MaMYB16L might generate a self-controlled regulatory loop to regulate banana fruit ripening. | Guoxiang Jiang Dandan Zhang Zhiwei Li Hanzhi Liang Rufang Deng Xinguo Su Yueming Jiang Xuewu Duan | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,7: | 2 |

| 10 | Plant-Derived Enzymes Producing Chiral Aroma Compounds and Potential Application显示文摘Aroma(volatile)compounds play important ecological functions in plants, and also contribute to the quality of plant-derived foods. Moreover, chiral aroma compounds affect their functions in plants and lead to different flavor quality properties.Formations of chiral aroma compounds are due to the presence of enzymes producing these compounds in plants, which are generally involved in the final biosynthetic step of the aroma compounds. Here,we review recent progress in research on the plant-derived enzymes producing chiral aroma compounds, and their changes in response to environmental factors. The chiral aroma enzymes that have been reported produce(R)-linalool,(S)-linalool,(R)-limonene,and(S)-limonene,etc.,and these enzymes are found in various plant species. We also discuss the origins of enantioselectivity in the plant-derived enzymes producing chiral aroma compounds and summarize the potential use of plants containing enzymes producing chiral aroma compounds for producing chiral flavors/fragrances. | Fang Dong Qian Fan Xinguo Su Lanting Zeng | 2023 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,2: | 1 |

| 17 | Highly in-plane anisotropic optical properties of fullerene monolayers显示文摘Both the intrinsic anisotropic optical materials and fullerene-assembled 2D materials have attracted much interest in fundamental science and potential applications. The synthesis of a monolayer(ML)fullerene makes the combination of these two features plausible. In this work, using first-principles calculations,we systematically study the electronic structure and optical properties of quasi-hexagonal phase(qHP)ML and quasi-tetragonal phase(qTP)ML fullerenes. The calculations of q HP ML show that it is a semiconductor with small anisotropic optical absorption, which agrees with the recent experimental measurements. However, the results for qTP ML reveal that it is a semimetal with highly in-plane anisotropic absorption. The dichroic ratio, namely the absorption ratio of x-and y-polarized lightα_(xx)/α_(yy),is around 12 at photon energy of 0.29 eV.This anisotropy is much more pronounced when the photon energy is between 0.7 and 1.4 eV,whereα_(xx)becomes nearly zero whileα_(yy)is more than two orders of magnitude larger. This indicates qTP ML as a candidate for long-pursuit lossless metal and a potential material for atomically thin polarizer. We hope this will stimulate further experimental eforts in the study of qTP ML and other fullerene-assembled 2D materials. | Danwen Yuan Hanqi Pi Yi Jiang Yuefang Hu Liqin Zhou Yujin Jia Gang Su Zhong Fang Hongming Weng Xinguo Ren Wei Zhang | 2023 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2023,66,4: | 0 |
| 18 | Role of histone deacetylase CsHDA8 in regulating the accumulation of indole during the oolong tea manufacturing process显示文摘Aroma is an important quality-related trait of oolong tea.The compounds contributing to oolong tea aromas are mainly produced in response to stress during the enzyme-active stage of the tea manufacturing process.Epigenetic regulation affects stress-induced secondary metabolite production;however, the mechanisms regulating oolong tea aroma compound formation are unclear. In this study, the effect of histone acetylation on indole formation,an important aroma of oolong tea,was revealed and CsHDA8 was identified as a candidate regulator.Additionally,CsHDA8,which was localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm, may function as a histone deacetylase. Moreover, the binding of CsHDA8 to CsTSB2 promoter related to indole decreased during a wounding treatment, which resulted in increased histone acetylation and gene expression. The study results may clarify the regulatory effects of histone acetylation on the formation of tea secondary metabolites, with potential implications for studies on the epigenetic regulation in other non-model horticulture plants. | Xiaochen Zhou Jie Yang Guotai Jian Lanting Zeng Dachuan Gu Xinguo Su Ziyin Yang | 2022 | Beverage Plant Research2022,2,1: | 0 |
