| 1 | Oxidative stress and diabetes:antioxidative strategies显示文摘Diabetes mellitus is one of the major public health problems worldwide.Considerable recent evidence suggests that the cellular reduction-oxidation(redox)imbalance leads to oxidative stress and subsequent occurrence and development of diabetes and related complications by regulating certain signaling pathways involved in p-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance.Reactive oxide species(ROS)can also directly oxidize certain proteins(defined as redox modification)involved in the diabetes process.There are a number of potential problems in the clinical application of antioxidant therapies including poor solubility,storage instability and nonselectivity of antioxidants.Novel antioxidant delivery systems may overcome pharmacokinetic and stability problem and improve the selectivity of scavenging ROS.We have therefore focused on the role of oxidative stress and antioxidative therapies in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus.Precise therapeutic interventions against ROS and downstream targets are now possible and provide important new insights into the treatment of diabetes. | Pengju Zhang Tao Li Xingyun Wu Edouard C.Nice Canhua Huang Yuanyuan Zhang | 2020 | Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,5: | 29 |
| 2 | Comparison of the Efficacy of Pterygium Resection Combined with Conjunctival Autograft versus Pterygium Resection Combined with Amniotic Membrane Transplantation显示文摘Purpose:To compare the efficacy of pterygium resection combined with conjunctival autograft versus pterygium resection combined with amniotic membrane transplantation in the treatment of pterygium. Methods: A total of 118 cases (133 eyes) were randomly assigned to receive pterygium resection combined with conjunctival autograft (n=81) or pterygium resection combined with amniotic membrane transplantation(n=52)..Corneal wound healing and neovascularization and the presence or absence of conjunctival proliferation and hyperemia were analyzed at 12 months post-operatively. Results: In the conjunctival autograft group, 6 eyes (7.4%) had recurrent pterygium,.while in the amniotic membrane transplantation group, 10 eyes showed recurrence (19.2%,P<0.05,.chi-square)..Patients in the conjunctival autograft group recovered significantly faster compared with those in the amniotic membrane transplantation group. | 3 | pH-dependent release characteristics of antimony and arsenic from typical antimony-bearing ores显示文摘The pH-dependent leaching of antimony(Sb) and arsenic(As) from three typical Sb-bearing ores(Banxi, Muli and Tongkeng Antimony Mine) in China was assessed using a pH-static leaching experiment. The pH changes of the leached solutions and pH-dependent leaching of Sb and As occurred in different ways. For the Banxi and Muli Sb ores, alkaline conditions were more favorable for the release of Sb compared to neutral and acidic conditions, but the reverse was true for the pH-dependent release of As. For the Tongkeng Sb ore, unlike the previous two Sb-bearing ores, acidic conditions were more favorable for Sb release than neutral and alkaline conditions.The ores with lower Sb and As contents released higher percentages of their Sb and As after 16 day leaching, suggesting that they are the largest potential sources of pollution. | 4 | Nitrogen doped carbon catalyzing acetylene conversion to vinyl chloride显示文摘Commercial production of vinyl chloride from acetylene relies on the use of HgCl2as the catalyst, which has caused severe environmental problem and threats to human health because of its toxicity. Therefore, it is vital to explore alternative catalysts without mercury. We report here that N-doped carbon can catalyze directly transformation of acetylene to vinyl chloride. Particularly, N-doped high surface area mesoporous carbon exhibits a rather high activity with the acetylene conversion reaching 77% and vinyl chloride selectivity above 98% at a space velocity of 1.0 mL min-1 g-1and 200 ℃. | 5 | Thermodynamic conditions of framework grain dissolution of clastic rocks and its application in Kela 2 gas field显示文摘Feldspar and clastic debris are the most important constituent framework grains of sedimentary clastic rocks and their chemical dissolution plays an essential role in the formation and evolution of the secondary pore in the reservoir rocks. On the basis of thermodynamic phase equilibrium, this study investigates the chemical equilibrium relationships between fluid and various plagioclase and K-feldspar in diagenesis of the sediments, particularly, the impact of temperature and fluid compositions (pH, activity of K+, Na+, Ca2+ and so on) on precipitation and dissolution equilibria of feldspars. Feldspar is extremely easily dissolved in the acid pore water with a low salinity when temperature decreases. The dissolution of anorthite end-member of plagioclase is related to the Ca content of the mineral and the fluid, higher Ca either in the mineral or in the fluid, easier dissolution of the feldspar. Moreover, the dissolution of albite end-member of plagioclase is related to Na of both the mineral and fluid, lower Na out of both the mineral and fluid, easier dissolution of the mineral. Similarly, lower-K fluid is more powerful to dissolve K-feldspar than the higher. The anorthite component of plagioclase is most easily dissolved in ground water-rock system, the albite is the secondary, and K-feldspar is the most stable. Selective dissolution of plagioclase occurs in diagenesis because of the plagioclase solid solution that is mainly composed of albite and anorthite end-members, Ca-rich part of which is preferentially dissolved by the pore water, in contrast to the Na-rich parts. Based on investigation of reservoir quality, secondary pore, dissolution structures of feldspar, clay minerals and ground water chemistry of the Kela 2 gas field of Kuqa Depression in the Tarim basin of Western China, we discovered that the secondary pore is very well developed in the highest quality section of the reservoir, and the plagioclase of which was obviously selectively dissolved, in contrast to the overgrowth of K-feldspar. Chemistry of the ground water out of the highest quality section of the reservoir is consistent with the complete dissolution field of anorthite, partial dissolution field of albite component of plagioclase, and the precipitation of K-feldspar on the temperature-logK phase equilibrium diagram drawn from this study. The thermodynamic modeling calculation gave us an insight into formation of the secondary pore within the reservoir, and the dissolution of plagioclase an important cause of the secondary pore. | 6 | Variation of carbon and nitrogen stoichiometry along a chronosequence of natural temperate forest in northeastern China显示文摘Aims Carbon(C)and nitrogen(N)stoichiometry contributes to under-standing elemental compositions and coupled biogeochemical cycles in ecosystems.However,we know little about the temporal patterns of C:N stoichiometry during forest development.The goal of this study is to explore the temporal patterns of intraspecific and ecosystem components’variations in C:N stoichiometry and the scaling relationships between C and N at different successional stages.Methods Along forest development in a natural temperate forest,northeastern China,four age gradients were categorized into ca.10-,30-,70-and 200-year old,respectively,and three 20 m×20 m plots were set up for each age class.Leaves,branches,fine roots and fresh litter of seven dominant species as well as mineral soil at depth of 0-10 cm were sampled.A Universal CHN Elemental Analyzer was used to determine the C and N concentrations in all samples.Important Findings Intraspecific leaf C,N and C:N ratios remained stable along forest development regardless of tree species;while C,N concentrations and C:N ratios changed significantly either in branches or in fine roots,and they varied with tree species except Populus davidiana(P<0.05).For ecosystem components,we discovered that leaf C:N ratios remained stable when stand age was below ca.70 years and dominant tree species were light-demanding pioneers such as Betula platyphylla and Populus davidiana,while increased signifi-cantly at the age of ca.200 years with Pinus koraiensis as the dom-inant species.C:N ratios in branches and fresh litter did not changed significantly along forest development stages.C concentrations scaled isometrically with respect to N concentrations in mineral soil but not in other ecosystem components.Our results indicate that,leaf has a higher intraspecific C:N stoichiometric stability compared to branch and fine root,whereas for ecosystem components,shifts in species composition mainly affect C:N ratios in leaves rather than other components.This study also demonstrated that C and N remain coupled in mineral soils but not in plant organs or fresh litter during forest development. | Xingyun Liang Shirong Liu Hui Wang Jingxin Wang | 2018 | Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,3: | 9 |
| 7 | Spherical Headed Silicone Intubation in the Treatment of 26 Cases (31 eyes) of Chronic Dacryocystitis under Nasal Endoscopy显示文摘Purpose:To observe the clinical efficacy of spherical headed silicone implantation in the treatment of chronic dacryocystitis under nasal endoscopy.Methods:Twenty-six patients (31 eyes) with chronic dacryocystitis were subjected to spherical headed silicone implantation under topical anesthesia (lacrimal passage and nasal mucosal surface).Lacrimal passage irrigation was performed daily throughout the first postoperative week,and once each month thereafter.Results:All spherical headed silicone tube placements were successfully performed.The operative time ranged from 6 to 11 minutes.Symptoms of epiphora were immediately ameliorated post-operatively,and irrigation demonstrated patency of the lacrimal system in all patients.All patients were followed from 7 to 24 months,during which symptoms of tearing were improved.The lacrimal ducts of 27 eyes (87.7%) were normal.The lacrimal ducts of 4 others.(12.3%).were still blocked.Lacrimal passage irrigation was open and secretion disappeared in 28 eyes(90.3%).Tearing was observed in 3 eyes (9.68%).Conclusion:Spherical headed silicone tube implantation under nasal endoscopy is successful in relieving symptoms of tearing. | Wanhong Liang Yongqiang Liang Xingyun Deng Hongzhi Yuan | 2011 | Eye Science2011,26,4: | 5 |

| 10 | Poly-PR in C9ORF72-Related Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Frontotemporal Dementia Causes Neurotoxicity by Clathrin-Dependent Endocytosis显示文摘GGGGCC repeat expansions in the C9 ORF72 gene are the most common cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia(c9 ALS/FTD). It has been reported that hexanucleotide repeat expansions in C9 ORF72 produce five dipeptide repeat(DPR) proteins by an unconventional repeat-associated non-ATG(RAN)translation. Within the five DPR proteins, poly-PR and poly-GR that contain arginine are more toxic than the other DPRs(poly-GA, poly-GP, and poly-PA). Here, we demonstrated that poly-PR peptides transferred into cells by endocytosis in a clathrin-dependent manner, leading to endoplasmic reticulum stress and cell death. In SH-SY5 Y cells and primary cortical neurons, poly-PR activated JUN amino-terminal kinase(JNK) and increased the levels of p53 and Bax. The uptake of poly-PR peptides by cells was significantly inhibited by knockdown of clathrin or by chlorpromazine, an inhibitor that blocks clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Inhibition of clathrin-dependent endocytosis by chlorpromazine significantly blocked the transfer of poly-PR peptides into cells, and attenuated poly-PRinduced JNK activation and cell death. | 11 | Organic ligand-induced dissolution kinetics of antimony trioxide显示文摘The influence of low-molecular-weight dissolved organic matter(LMWDOM) on the dissolution rate of Sb_2O_3 was investigated. Some representative LMWDOMs with carboxyl, hydroxyl,hydrosulfuryl and amidogen groups occurring naturally in the solution were chosen, namely oxalic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, EDTA, salicylic acid, phthalandione, glycine, thiolactic acid,xylitol, glucose and catechol. These LMWDOMs were dissolved in inert buffers at pH = 3.7, 6.6and 8.6 and added to powdered Sb_2O_3 in a stirred, thermostatted reactor(25°C). The addition of EDTA, tartaric acid, thiolactic acid, citric acid and oxalic acid solutions at pH 3.7 and catechol at pH 8.6 increased the rate of release of antimony. In the 10 mmol/L thiolactic acid solution, up to 97% by mass of the antimony was released after 120 min reaction. There was no effect on the dissolution of Sb_2O_3 for the other ligands. A weak correlation between dissolution rate with the dissociation constant of ligands and the stability of the dissolved complex was also found. All the results showed that the extent of the promoting effect of ligands on the dissolution of Sb_2O_3 was not determined by the stability of the dissolved complex, but by the dissociation constant of ligands and detachment rate of surface chelates from the mineral surface. | 12 | High-precision whispering gallery microsensors with ergodic spectra empowered by machine learning显示文摘Whispering gallery mode(WGM)microcavities provide increasing opportunities for precision measurement due to their ultrahigh sensitivity,compact size,and fast response.However,the conventional WGM sensors rely on monitoring the changes of a single mode,and the abundant sensing information in WGM transmission spectra has not been fully utilized.Here,empowered by machine learning(ML),we propose and demonstrate an ergodic spectra sensing method in an optofluidic microcavity for high-precision pressure measurement.The developed ML method realizes the analysis of the full features of optical spectra.The prediction accuracy of 99.97%is obtained with the average error as low as 0.32 kPa in the pressure range of 100 kPa via the training and testing stages.We further achieve the real-time readout of arbitrary unknown pressure within the range of measurement,and a prediction accuracy of 99.51%is obtained.Moreover,we demonstrate that the ergodic spectra sensing accuracy is∼11.5%higher than that of simply extracting resonating modes’wavelength.With the high sensitivity and prediction accuracy,this work opens up a new avenue for integrated intelligent optical sensing. | BING DUAN HANYING ZOU JIN-HUI CHEN CHUN HUI MA XINGYUN ZHAO XIAOLONG ZHENG CHUAN WANG LIANG LIU DAQUAN YANG | 2022 | Photonics Research2022,10,10: | 3 |

| 16 | Combined pollution of arsenic and Polymyxin B enhanced arsenic toxicity and enriched ARG abundance in soil and earthworm gut microbiotas显示文摘Polymyxin B(PMB)is considered as the last line of antibiotic defense available to humans.The environmental effects of the combined pollution with PMB and heavy metals and their interaction mechanisms are unclear.We explored the effects of the combined pollution with PMB and arsenic(As)on the microbial composition of the soil and in the earthworm gut,as well as the spread and transmission of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs).The results showed that,compared with As alone,the combined addition of PMB and As could significantly increase the bioaccumulation factor and toxicity of As in earthworm tissues by 12.1%and 16.0%,respectively.PMB treatment could significantly increase the abundance of Actinobacteria in the earthworm gut(from 35.6%to 45.2%),and As stress could significantly increase the abundance of Proteobacteria(from 19.8%to 56.9%).PMB and As stress both could significantly increase the abundance of ARGs and mobile genetic elements(MGEs),which were positively correlated,indicating that ARGs might be horizontally transferred.The inactivation of antibiotics was the main resistance mechanism that microbes use to resist PMB and As stress.Network analysis showed that PMB and As might have antagonistic effects through competition with multi-drug resistant ARGs.The combined pollution by PMB and As significantly promoted the relative abundance of microbes carrying multi-drug resistant ARGs and MGEs,thereby increasing the risk of transmission of ARGs.This research advances the understanding of the interaction mechanism between antibiotics and heavy metals and provides new theoretical guidance for the environmental risk assessment and combined pollution management. | Lyu Li Dong Zhu Xingyun Yi Jianqiang Su Guilan Duan Xianjin Tang Yongguan Zhu | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,11: | 2 |
