1Strategic Interaction in Spending on Environmental Protection:Spatial Evidence from Chinese Cities显示文摘In China,the responsibility of protecting the environment lies largely with local governments. Within the framework of spatial econometrics,we investigate empirically the consequence of such an institutional setting.Using city-level data for China,the present study finds that city governments behave strategically in making spending decisions regarding environmental protection.This paper finds that a city government appears to cut its own spending as a response to the rise in environmental protection spending by its neighbors.Hence, environmental protection tends to be underprovided.As a result,we suggest that centralizing the environmental protection responsibility to a higher level of government would be beneficial in terms of controlling pollution in China.Huihui Deng Xinye Zheng Nan Huang Fanghua Li 2012China & World Economy2012,20,5:33

8On the nexus of environmental quality and public spending on health care in China:a panel cointegration analysis显示文摘Does pollution drive up public spending on health care?This paper aims to answer such a crucial question empirically using a panel data set of 31 Chinese provinces during the period 1997–2014.In particular,this paper explores the non-stationarity and cointegration properties between health care expenditure and environmental indicators in a panel cointegration framework;in doing so,it examines both the long-run and the short-run impacts of the per capita provincial GDP,waste gas emissions,dust and smog emissions,and waste water emissions on the per capita public health expenditure.We apply panel unit root tests,heterogeneous panel cointegration tests,FMOLS techniques,and a panel-based error-correction model.The conclusion is that,both in the long run and in the short run,public health care expenditure is positively affected not only by the provincial economy but also by the environmental quality.Yihua Yu Li Zhang Xinye Zheng 2016Economic and Political Studies2016,4,3:0

10Changes in the Economic Structure and Trends in China’s Future Energy Demands显示文摘The scientific evaluation of trends in China's future energy demands is highly important.Using provincial-level panel data from 1995 to 2015,we studied the relationships between the economic aggregate,the development of energy-intensive industries and energy demand from the perspective of changes in the proportion of energy-intensive industries in the national economy.We find that economic aggregate affects energy demand through energy-intensive industries and that changes in the economic structure are the key factor for change in energy demand.This means that China's future energy demand will be much lower than that contained in forecasts that did not consider this factor.Comprehensively promoting green-tech development and strengthening the regulation of energy-extensive industries will be one of the key options for realizing China's objective of controlling total energy consumption.Zheng Xinye Wu Shimei Li Fanghua 2021Social Sciences in China2021,42,3:0
11Heat Shock Factor A1s are required for phytochrome-interacting factor 4-mediated thermomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis显示文摘Thermomorphogenesis and the heat shock(HS)response are distinct thermal responses in plants that are regulated by PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTOR 4(PIF4)and HEAT SHOCK FACTOR A1s(HSFA1s),respectively.Little is known about whether these responses are interconnected and whether they are activated by similar mechanisms.An analysis of transcriptome dynamics in response to warm temperature(28℃)treatment revealed that 30 min of exposure activated the expression of a subset of HSFA1 target genes in Arabidopsis thaliana.Meanwhile,a loss-of-function HSFA1 quadruple mutant(hsfa1-cq)was insensitive to warm temperature-induced hypocotyl growth.In hsfa1-cq plants grown at 28℃,the protein and transcript levels of PIF4 were greatly reduced,and the circadian rhythm of many thermomorphogenesis-related genes(including PIF4)was disturbed.Additionally,the nuclear localization of HSFA1s and the binding of HSFA1d to the PIF4 promoter increased following warm temperature exposure,whereas PIF4 overexpression in hsfa1-cq partially rescued the altered warm temperature-induced hypocotyl growth of the mutant.Taken together,these results suggest that HSFA1s are required for PIF4 accumulation at a warm temperature,and they establish a central role for HSFA1s in regulating both thermomorphogenesis and HS responses in Arabidopsis.Bingjie Li Shimeng Jiang Liang Gao Wenhui Wang Haozheng Luo Yining Dong Zhihua Gao Shuzhi Zheng Xinye Liu Wenqiang Tang 2024Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2024,66,1:0
