| 1 | An improved association-mining research for exploring Chinese herbal property theory: based on data of the Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica显示文摘Knowledge Discovery in Databases is gaining attention and raising new hopes for traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)researchers.It is a useful tool in understanding and deciphering TCM theories.Aiming for a better understanding of Chinese herbal property theory(CHPT),this paper performed an improved association rule learning to analyze semistructured text in the book entitled Shennong’s Classic of Materia Medica.The text was firstly annotated and transformed to well-structured multidimensional data.Subsequently,an Apriori algorithm was employed for producing association rules after the sensitivity analysis of parameters.From the confirmed 120 resulting rules that described the intrinsic relationships between herbal property(qi,flavor and their combinations)and herbal efficacy,two novel fundamental principles underlying CHPT were acquired and further elucidated:(1)the many-to-one mapping of herbal efficacy to herbal property;(2)the nonrandom overlap between the related efficacy of qi and flavor.This work provided an innovative knowledge about CHPT,which would be helpful for its modern research. | Rui Jin Zhi-jian Lin Chun-miao Xue Bing Zhang | 2013 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2013,11,5: | 14 |
| 2 | Serum Uric Acid is Associated with the Predicted Risk of Prevalent Cardiovascular Disease in a Community-dwelling Population without Diabetes显示文摘Objective To examine the association between serum uric acid levels and cardiovascular disease risk among individuals without diabetes. Methods We investigated the association between serum uric acid levels and the risk of prevalent cardiometabolic diseases, 10-year Framingham risk for coronary heart disease, and 10-year risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases(ASCVD) among 8,252 participants aged ≥ 40 years without diabetes from Jiading district, Shanghai, China. Results Body mass index, waist circumference, blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure, and serum lipids increased progressively across the sex-specific quartiles of uric acid(all P trend < 0.05). Compared with individuals in the lowest quartile, those in the higher quartiles had a significantly higher prevalence of obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia(all P trend < 0.05). A fully adjusted logistic regression analysis revealed that individuals in the highest quartile had an increased risk of predicted cardiovascular disease compared with those in the lowest quartile of uric acid. The multivariate adjusted odds ratios(ORs) [95% confidence intervals(CIs)] for the highest quartiles for high Framingham risk were 3.00(2.00-4.50) in men and 2.95(1.08-8.43) in women. The multivariate adjusted ORs(95% CIs) for the highest quartile for high ASCVD risk were 1.93(1.17-3.17) in men and 4.53(2.57-7.98) in women. | 3 | DNA chip-based expression profile analysis indicates involvement of the phosphatidylinositol signaling pathway in multiple plant responses to hormone and abiotic treatments显示文摘The phosphatidylinositol (PI) metabolic pathway is considered critical in plant responses to many environmental factors,and previous studies have indicated the involvement of multiple PI-related gene families during cellular responses.Through a detailed analysis of the Arabidopsis thaliana genome,82 polypeptides were identified as being involved in PI signaling. These could be grouped into different families including PI synthases (PIS),PI-phosphate kinases (PIPK),phospholipases (PL),inositol polyphosphate phosphatases (IPPase),inositol polyphosphate kinases (IPK),PI transfer proteins and putative inositol polyphosphate receptors. The presence of more than 10 isoforms of PIPK,PLC,PLD and IPPase suggested that these genes might be differentially expressed during plant cellular responses or growth and development. Accordingly,DNA chip technology was employed to study the expression patterns of various isoforms.In total,79 mRNA clones were amplified and used for DNA chip generation. Expression profile analysis was performed using samples that represented multiple tissues or cellular responses. Tested samples included normal leaf,stem and flower tissues,and leaves from plants treated with various hormones (auxin,cytokinin,gibberellin,abscisic acid and brassinosteroid) or environmental factors (temperature,calcium,sodium,drought,salicylic acid and jasmonic acid).Results showed that many PI pathway-related genes were differentially expressed under these experimental conditions.In particular,the different isoforms of each family were specifically expressed in many cases,suggesting their involvement in tissue specificity and cellular responses to environmental conditions. | 5 | Estimating survival benefit of adjuvant therapy based on a Bayesian network prediction model in curatively resected advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND The factors affecting the prognosis and role of adjuvant therapy in advanced gallbladder carcinoma(GBC)after curative resection remain unclear.AIM To provide a survival prediction model to patients with GBC as well as to identify the role of adjuvant therapy.METHODS Patients with curatively resected advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma(T3 and T4)were selected from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results database between 2004 and 2015.A survival prediction model based on Bayesian network(BN)was constructed using the tree-augmented na?ve Bayes algorithm,and composite importance measures were applied to rank the influence of factors on survival.The dataset was divided into a training dataset to establish the BN model and a testing dataset to test the model randomly at a ratio of 7:3.The confusion matrix and receiver operating characteristic curve were used to evaluate the model accuracy.RESULTS A total of 818 patients met the inclusion criteria.The median survival time was 9.0 mo.The accuracy of BN model was 69.67%,and the area under the curve value for the testing dataset was 77.72%.Adjuvant radiation,adjuvant chemotherapy(CTx),T stage,scope of regional lymph node surgery,and radiation sequence were ranked as the top five prognostic factors.A survival prediction table was established based on T stage,N stage,adjuvant radiotherapy(XRT),and CTx.The distribution of the survival time(>9.0 mo)was affected by different treatments with the order of adjuvant chemoradiotherapy(cXRT)>adjuvant radiation>adjuvant chemotherapy>surgery alone.For patients with node-positive disease,the larger benefit predicted by the model is adjuvant chemoradiotherapy.The survival analysis showed that there was a significant difference among the different adjuvant therapy groups(log rank,surgery alone vs CTx,P<0.001;surgery alone vs XRT,P=0.014;surgery alone vs cXRT,P<0.001).CONCLUSION The BN-based survival prediction model can be used as a decision-making support tool for advanced GBC patients.Adjuvant chemoradiotherapy is expected to improve the survival significantly for patients with node-positive disease. | Zhi-Min Geng Zhi-Qiang Cai Zhen Zhang Zhao-Hui Tang Feng Xue Chen Chen Dong Zhang Qi Li Rui Zhang Wen-Zhi Li Lin Wang Shu-Bin Si | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,37: | 9 |
| 6 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. | 8 | Association between Lipoprotein(a) Levels and Metabolic Syndrome in a Middle-aged and Elderly Chinese Cohort显示文摘Objective The association between lipoprotein(a)[Lp(a)] levels and metabolic syndrome(MetS) remains uncertain, especially in the Asian population. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the association between Lp(a) levels and MetS in a middle-aged and elderly Chinese cohort. Methods A cross-sectional study of 10,336 Chinese adults aged 40 years or older was conducted in Jiading District, Shanghai, China. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between serum Lp(a) levels and MetS. Results In the overall population, 37.5% of participants had MetS. Compared with individuals in the lowest quartile of serum Lp(a) levels, those in the highest quartile had a lower prevalence of MetS(30.9% vs. 46.9%, P for trend < 0.0001). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that compared with participants in the bottom quartile of serum Lp(a) levels, those in the top quartile had decreased odds ratio(OR) for prevalent MetS [multivariate-adjusted OR 0.45(95% confidence interval 0.39-0.51);P < 0.0001]. Additionally, Lp(a) level was conversely associated with the risk of central obesity, high fasting glucose, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol, but not with hypertension. Stratified analyses suggested that increasing levels of Lp(a) was associated with decreased risk of MetS in all the subgroups. | 13 | Improvements on physical conditions of bauxite residue following application of organic materials显示文摘Soil formation and ecological rehabilitation is the most promising strategy to eliminate environmental risks of bauxite residue disposal areas. Its poor physical structure is nevertheless a major limitation to plant growth. Organic materials were demonstrated as effective ameliorants to improve the physical conditions of bauxite residue. In this study, three different organic materials including straw(5% W/W), humic acid(5% W/W), and humic acidacrylamide polymer(0.2% and 0.4%, W/W) were selected to evaluate their effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue pretreated by phosphogypsum following a 120-day incubation experiment. The proportion of 2-1 mm macro-aggregates, mean weight diameter(MWD) and geometric mean diameter(GWD) increased following organic materials addition, which indicated that organic materials could enhance aggregate stability. Compared with straw, and humic acid, humic acid-acrylamide polymer application had improved effects on the formation of water-stable aggregates in the residues. Furthermore, organic materials increased the total porosity, total pore volume and average pore diameter, and reduced the micropore content according to nitrogen gas adsorption(NA) and mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)analysis, whilst enhancing water retention of the residues based on water characteristic curves. Compared with traditional organic wastes, humic acid-acrylamide polymer could be regarded as a candidate according to the comprehensive consideration of the additive amount and the effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue. | 14 | Association of human leukocyte antigen-DR-DQ-DP haplotypes with the risk of hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Aim:Genetic polymorphisms of human leukocyte antigen(HLA)class II molecules are associated with chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection.We aimed to investigate the impacts of HLA-II haplotypes on viral evolution and the risks of HBV-caused liver diseases.Methods:HLA-DR-DQ-DP haplotypes were estimated in 1210 healthy controls,296 HBV clearance subjects,301 asymptomatic hepatitis B surface antigen carriers,770 chronic hepatitis B patients,443 HBV-related liver cirrhosis(LC)patients,and 1037 HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients.HBV mutations were determined by sequencing.The associations of HLA-DR-DQ-DP haplotypes with viral mutations and the risks of liver diseases were assessed by multivariate logistic regression.Results:Compared to HBV-free subjects,the haplotypes CCAACG,CCGACG,TCAATA,and TCGATA were associated with decreased HCC risk,with an odds ratio(OR)[95%confidence interval(CI)]of 0.62(0.40-0.95),0.60(0.39-0.92),0.73(0.54-0.98),and 0.58(0.42-0.78),respectively.CCAACG,CCGACG,and TCAATA were significantly associated with decreased frequencies of the HCC-risk HBV mutations:preS1 deletion,APOBECsignature HBV mutations in the core promoter and preS regions,A51C/T,G104C/T,and G146C/T.TCGATA and TTAACG were associated with increased LC risk,with an OR(95%CI)of 1.54(1.03-2.30)and 2.23(1.50-3.33),respectively.However,TCGATA and TTAACG were not consistently associated with the cirrhosis-risk HBV mutations.Conclusion:CCAACG,CCGACG,and TCAATA are inversely associated with HCC risk,possibly because they are involved in creating an immune microenvironment attenuating the generation of HCC-risk HBV mutations.TCGATA and TTAACG might predispose the polarity of immunity towards Th17 isotype related to LC. | Yifan Chen Jiansheng Lin Yang Deng Wenbin Liu Zishuai Li Xinyu Zhou Shiliang Cai Rui Pu Jianhua Yin Xiaojie Tan Jun Zhao Xue Han Guangwen Cao | 2022 | Hepatoma Research2022,8,1: | 2 |
| 15 | Atomically precise metal-chalcogenide semiconductor molecular nanoclusters with high dispersibility:Designed synthesis and intracluster photocarrier dynamics显示文摘A comprehensive understanding of excited-state dynamics of semiconductor quantum dots or nanomaterials at the atomic or molecular level is of scientific importance.Pure inorganic(or non-covalently protected)seimiconductor molecular nanoclusters with atomically precise structure are contributive to establish accurate correlation of excited-state dynamics with their composition/structure,however,the related studies are almost blank because of unresolved solvent dispersion issue.Herein,we designedly created the largest discrete chalcogenide seimiconductor molecular nanoclusters(denoted P2-CuMSnS,M=In or/and Ga)with great dispersibility,and revealed an interesting intracluster“core–shell”charge transfer relaxation dynamics.A systematic red shift in absorption spectra with the gradual substitution of In by Ga was experimentally and computationally investigated,and femtosecond transient absorption measurements further manifested there were three ultrafast processes in excited-state dynamics of P2 nanoclusters with the corresponding amplitudes directed by composition variation.Current results hold the great promise of the solution-processible applications of semiconductor-NC-based quantum dots and facilitate the development of atomically precise nano-chemistry. | Jiaxu Zhang Chaochao Qin Yeshuang Zhong Xiang Wang Wei Wang Dandan Hu Xiaoshuang Liu Chaozhuang Xue Rui Zhou Lei Shen Yinglin Song Dingguo Xu Zhien Lin Jun Guo Haifeng Su Dong-Sheng Li Tao Wu | 2020 | Nano Research2020,13,10: | 2 |
