| 1 | Ablation of gut microbiota alleviates obesity-induced hepatic steatosis and glucose intolerance by modulating bile acid metabolism in hamsters显示文摘Since metabolic process differs between humans and mice, studies were performed in hamsters, which are generally considered to be a more appropriate animal model for studies of obesityrelated metabolic disorders. The modulation of gut microbiota, bile acids and the farnesoid X receptor(FXR) axis is correlated with obesity-induced insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis in mice. However,the interactions among the gut microbiota, bile acids and FXR in metabolic disorders remained largely unexplored in hamsters. In the current study, hamsters fed a 60% high-fat diet(HFD) were administeredvehicle or an antibiotic cocktail by gavage twice a week for four weeks. Antibiotic treatment alleviated HFD-induced glucose intolerance, hepatic steatosis and inflammation accompanied with decreased hepatic lipogenesis and elevated thermogenesis in subcutaneous white adipose tissue(sWAT). In the livers of antibiotic-treated hamsters, cytochrome P450 family 7 subfamily B member 1(CYP7 B1) in the alternative bile acid synthesis pathway was upregulated, contributing to a more hydrophilic bile acid profile with increased tauro-β-muricholic acid(TβMCA). The intestinal FXR signaling was suppressed but remained unchanged in the liver. | 2 | Wet and dry deposition fluxes of heavy metals in Pearl River Delta Region(China):Characteristics,ecological risk assessment,and source apportionment显示文摘The atmospheric deposition of heavy metals poses serious risks to the ecological system and human health. To advance our knowledge of atmospheric dry/wet heavy metal deposition in the PRD region, monthly fluxes were examined based on soluble/insoluble fractions of five heavy metal elements(Cu, Pb, Cd, Cr and Zn) in samples collected from January 2014 to December 2015 at Guangzhou(urban) and Dinghushan(suburban) sites. The ratios of wet/dry deposition fluxes indicated that heavy metal deposition was governed by wet deposition rather than dry deposition in the PRD region. Affected by the shifting of the Asian monsoon, wet deposition fluxes exhibited significant seasonal variation between summer monsoon seasons(April to September) and winter monsoon seasons(October to February) in this region. Cd was classified as an extremely strong potential ecological risk based on solubility and the Hakanson ecological risk index. | 4 | An Anomalous Behavior Detection Model in Cloud Computing显示文摘This paper proposes an anomalous behavior detection model based on cloud computing. Virtual Machines(VMs) are one of the key components of cloud Infrastructure as a Service(Iaa S). The security of such VMs is critical to Iaa S security. Many studies have been done on cloud computing security issues, but research into VM security issues, especially regarding VM network traffic anomalous behavior detection, remains inadequate.More and more studies show that communication among internal nodes exhibits complex patterns. Communication among VMs in cloud computing is invisible. Researchers find such issues challenging, and few solutions have been proposed—leaving cloud computing vulnerable to network attacks. This paper proposes a model that uses Software-Defined Networks(SDN) to implement traffic redirection. Our model can capture inter-VM traffic, detect known and unknown anomalous network behaviors, adopt hybrid techniques to analyze VM network behaviors, and control network systems. | 9 | A spontaneous thermo-sensitive female sterility mutation in rice enables fully mechanized hybrid breeding显示文摘Male sterility enables hybrid crop breeding to increase yields and has been extensively studied. But thermo-sensitive female sterility, which is an ideal property that may enable full mechanization in hybrid rice breeding, has rarely been investigated due to the absence of such germplasm. Here we identify the spontaneous thermo-sensitive female sterility 1 (tfs1) mutation that confers complete sterility under regular/high temperature and partial fertility under low temperature as a point mutation in ARGONAUTE7 (AGO7). AGO7 associates with miR390 to form an RNA-Induced Silencing Complex (RISC), which triggers the biogenesis of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) from TRANS-ACTING3 (TAS3) loci by recruiting SUPPRESSOR OF GENE SILENCING (SGS3) and RNA-DEPENDENT RNA POLYMERASE6 (RDR6) to TAS3 transcripts. These siRNAs are known as tasiR-ARFs as they act in trans to repress auxin response factor genes. The mutant TFS1 (mTFS1) protein is compromised in its ability to load the miR390/miR390* duplex and eject miR390* during RISC formation. Furthermore, tasiR-ARF levels are reduced in tfs1 due to the deficiency in RDR6 but not SGS3 recruitment by mTFS1 RISC under regular/high temperature, while low temperature partially restores mTFS1 function in RDR6 recruitment and tasiR-ARF biogenesis. A miR390 mutant also exhibits female sterility, suggesting that female fertility is controlled by the miR390-AGO7 module. Notably, the tfs1 allele introduced into various elite rice cultivars endows thermo-sensitive female sterility. | 14 | Photoluminescence from Ge-SiO_2 thin films and its mechanism显示文摘Ge-SiO2 thin films were deposited on p-type Si substrates using the radio frequency (rf) magnetron sputtering technique with a Ge-SiO2 composite target. Films were annealed in N2 ambience for 30 min at 300℃-1000℃ with an interval of 100℃. Through the X-ray diffraction, the average size of Ge nanocrystals (nc-Ge) was determined. They increased from 3.9 to 6.1 nm with increasing annealing temperature in the range of 600℃-1000℃. Under ultraviolet excitation, all samples emit a strong violet band centered at 396 nm. With the formation of nc-Ge, the samples exhibit another emission of orange band with the peak at 580 nm and its intensity increases with the increasing size of nc-Ge.The peak positions of two bands do not shift obviously.
