| 1 | A Chromosome-Scale Genome Assembly of Paper Mulberry(Bmussonetia papyrifera)Provides New Insights into Its Forage and Papermaking Usage显示文摘Paper mulberry(Broussonetia papyrifera)is a well-known woody tree historically used for Cai Lun papermaking,one of the four great inventions of ancient China.More recently,Paper mulberry has also been used as forage to address the shortage of feedstuff because of its digestible crude fiber and high protein contents.In this study,we obtained a chromosome-scale genome assembly for Paper mulberry using integrated approaches,including Illumina and PacBio sequencing platform as well as Hi-C,optical,and genetic maps.The assembled Paper mulberry genome consists of 386.83 Mb,which is close to the estimated size,and 99.25%(383.93 Mb)of the assembly was assigned to 13 pseudochromosomes.Comparative genomic analysis revealed the expansion and contraction in the flavonoid and lignin biosynthetic gene families,respectively,accounting for the enhanced flavonoid and decreased lignin biosynthesis in Paper mulberry.Moreover,the increased ratio of syringyl-lignin to guaiacyl-lignin in Paper mulberry underscores its suitability for use in medicine,forage,papermaking,and barkcloth making.We also identified the rootassociated microbiota of Paper mulberry and found that Pseudomonas and Rhizobia were enriched in its roots and may provide the source of nitrogen for its stems and leaves via symbiotic nitrogen fixation.Collectively,these results suggest that Paper mulberry might have undergone adaptive evolution and recruited nitrogen-fixing microbes to promote growth by enhancing flavonoid production and altering lignin monomer composition.Our study provides significant insights into genetic basis of the usefulness of Paper mulberry in papermaking and barkcloth making,and as forage.These insights will facilitate further domestication and selection as well as industrial utilization of Paper mulberry worldwide. | Xianjun Peng Hui Liu Peilin Chen Feng Tang Yanmin Hu Fenfen Wang Zhi Pi Meiling Zhao Naizhi Chen Hui Chen Xiaokang Zhang Xueqing Yan Min Liu Xiaojun Fu Guofeng Zhao Pu Yao Lili Wang He Dai Xuming Li Wei Xiong Wencai Xu Hongkun Zheng Haiyan Yu Shihua Shen | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,5: | 18 |

| 3 | Low-frequency wide-band hybrid energy harvester based on piezoelectric and triboelectric mechanism显示文摘Recently,hybrid energy harvester has been considered as an attractive potential approach to response the worldwide energy crisis due to the combination of advantages from different harvesting mechanism.In this paper,a novel low-frequency wide-band hybrid energy harvester based on piezoelectric and triboelectric mechanism is presented and systematically studied including structural design,fabrication process,working principle simulation and measurement.With a vibrational excitation,the polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) cantilevers will vibrate and impact the polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) film on the substrate,producing a piezoelectric output as well as a triboelectric output.The structural parameters of each cantilever are optimized using finite element simulation,and the well-designed PVDF cantilevers with controllable PDMS mass not only reduce the device working frequency but also enlarge the bandwidth.Under a sweep-frequency test,three voltage peaks induced by the piezoelectric part are observed at 15,32.5 and 47.5 Hz,with the value of 320,288 and 264 mV,respectively.With the combined triboelectric part,a 20 V peak-peak voltage is generated at 15 Hz.The electrical driving ability of this hybrid energy harvester also has been demonstrated by lighting up a commercial light emitting diode(LED). | HAN MengDi ZHANG XiaoSheng LIU Wen SUN XuMing PENG XuHua ZHANG HaiXia | 2013 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,8: | 17 |

| 9 | Reduced inorganic sulfur in the sediments of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea显示文摘Cold diffusion methods are used to separate and quantify the three reduced inorganic sulfur species into acid volatile sulfide(AVS), pyrite–S and element sulfur(ES) in the sediments of the Yellow and East China Seas. The results show that up to 25.02 μmol/g of AVS, 113.1 μmol/g of pyrite–S and 44.4 μmol/g of ES are observed in the sediments of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. Pyrite–S is the predominant sulfide mineral in the sediments, while the concentration of AVS is quite low at most stations in the study area. The amounts and reactivity of organic matter are the primary limited factor for the sulfide formation, while an iron limitation and a sulfate limitation are not observed in the sediments of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. | 10 | Dark matter direct search sensitivity of the PandaX-4T experiment显示文摘The Panda X-4T experiment, a 4-ton scale dark matter direct detection experiment, is being planned at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory. In this paper we present a simulation study of the expected background in this experiment. In a 2.8-ton fiducial mass and the signal region between 1-10 keV electron equivalent energy, the total electron recoil background is found to be 4.9 × 10^(-5) kg^(-1) d^(-1) keV^(-1). The nuclear recoil background in the same region is 2.8 × 10^(-7) kg^(-1) d^(-1) keV^(-1). | 13 | Aberrant seed development in Litchi chinensis is associated with the impaired expression of cell wall invertase genes显示文摘Cell wall invertase(CWIN)are known to play important roles in seed development.However,most reports to date have focused on a single gene family member,and have mainly investigated CWIN functions during the filling stage of seed development.In this study,we found significant lower levels of CWIN protein and activity associated with seed abortion in the Litchi chinensis cultivar“Nuomici.”We identified five litchi CWIN genes and observed that the expression of LcCWIN5 was limited to the flower tissues and decreased sharply with fruit development.Silencing of LcCWIN5 expression before 28 DAA(cell division stage)resulted in perturbed liquid endosperm development,smaller seeds,and higher seed abortion rate,while silencing after 28 DAA(filling stage)had no effect on seed development.In contrast,LcCWIN2 was mostly expressed in the funicle and seed coat,and increased with fruit development.Decreased LcCWIN2 expression and CWIN activity during early seed filling coincided with smaller seeds in the cultivar“Feizixiao.”Silencing of LcCWIN2 caused a reduction in the seed size without inducing seed abortion.We propose that CWIN activity in seed maternal tissues during cell division stage is likely due to LcCWIN5 expression,which regulates early seed development.On the other hand,CWIN activity during the filling stage is due to the expression of LcCWIN2,which may promote carbon import by creating a sucrose gradient.Comparable LcCWIN5 expression,but much lower CWIN activity,detected in the funicle of“Nuomici”is consistent with post-translational regulation. | Jieqiong Zhang Zichen Wu Fuchu Hu Lian Liu Xuming Huang Jietang Zhao Huicong Wang | 2018 | Horticulture Research2018,5,1: | 4 |
| 14 | Joint User Association and Resource Allocation for Self-Backhaul Ultra-Dense Networks显示文摘In order to meet the exponentially increasing demand on mobile data traffic, self-backhaul ultra-dense networks(UDNs) combined with millimeter wave(mm Wave) communications are expected to provide high spatial multiplexing gain and wide bandwidths for multi-gigabit peak data rates. In selfbackhaul UDNs, how to make the radio access rates of small cells match their backhaul rates by user association and how to dynamically allocate bandwidth for the access links and backhaul links to balance two-hop link resources are two key problems on improving the overall throughputs. Based on this, a joint scheme of user association and resource allocation is proposed in self-backhaul ultra-dense networks. Because of the combinatorial and nonconvex features of the original optimization problem, it has been divided into two subproblems. Firstly, to make the radio access rates of small base stations match their backhaul rates and maximize sum access rates per Hz of all small cells, a proportional constraint is introduced, and immune optimization algorithm(IOA) is adopted to optimize the association indicator variables and the boresight angles of between users and base stations. Then, the optimal backhaul and access bandwidths are calculated by differentiating the general expression of overall throughput. | 15 | Microscopic view of phytoplankton along the Yangtze River显示文摘Phytoplankton play an important role in nutrient cycling and energy conversion. However, phytoplankton community is poorly understood in large river ecosystems. Based on the large-scale samplings conducted in spring and autumn of 2017, a systematic study has been made on seasonal and spatial distributions of phytoplankton community along the mainstream of the Yangtze River. As results, 6 phyla were identified and 59 phytoplankton species were detected using microscopy, including Bacillariophyta(29 species), Chlorophyta(13 species) and Cyanophyta(8 species) as the dominant group. Moreover, the density of phytoplankton was ranged 0.05×10^6–1.90×10^6 cells/L and the biomass was 0.01–1.01 mg/L, both reaching their maximum in the middle reach from Yichang to Wuhan. Significant seasonal difference of phytoplankton community was observed and spatial dissimilarity in spring was revealed. | 17 | Attaining the liquid helium temperature with a compact pulse tube cryocooler for space applications显示文摘Recent breakthroughs in space science have motivated space exploration programs in many countries including China. Cryocoolers, which provide the mandatory low-temperature environment for many sensitive yet delicate space detectors, are crucial for the proper functioning of various systems. One benchmark for the cryocooler performance is attaining the liquid helium temperature. However, even with complex configurations and multiple driving sources, only a few cryocoolers to date can achieve this goal. Here we report a high-frequency pulse tube cryocooler(HPTC) driven by a single non-oil-lubrication compressor which is capable of reaching the liquid helium temperature while offering other advantages such as high compactness, excellent reliability and high efficiency. The HPTC obtains a no-load temperature of 4.4 K, which is the first realization of cooling below the4 He critical point with a gas-coupled two-stage arrangement. The prototype can provide a cooling power of 87 mW at 8 K, and 5.2 mW at 5 K with a 425 W input electric power, showing leading-level efficiency. Moreover, we demonstrate the ability of the cryocooler to simultaneously provide cooling power at different temperature levels to meet different requirements. | 18 | From sand to fast and stable silicon anode:Synthesis of hollow Si@void@C yolk-shell microspheres by aluminothermic reduction for lithium storage显示文摘As an alloying type anode material, silicon is a promising alternative of graphitic carbon due to its high theoretical capacity and natural abundance. Developing an industrially viable silicon anode, however, is still a huge challenge because of several problems: First of all, the common process to synthesize a silicon anode is complicated, costly, and energy-intensive. Besides, the huge volume expansion, inevitable side reactions with the electrolyte, and low intrinsic conductivity of silicon are eventually responsible for the poor cyclability and unsatisfactory rate capability. Herein, we aim to address these issues by proposing synthesis of hollow Si@void@C yolk-shell microspheres from sand by low-temperature aluminothermic reduction, which energetically combines a cost-effective silicon source with an energy-efficient, highyield methodology. The hollow Si@void@C yolk-shell microspheres effectively accommodate the diffusion-induced stress by providing the hollow interior and the void space. Moreover, the carbon shell not only functions as an electrolyte-blocking layer to protect the silicon yolk from undesirable side reactions and SEI formation, but also acts as a conductive framework to reduce the resistance to electron and Li^+ ion transport.
