1The mortality of lung cancer attributable to smoking among adults in China and the United States during 1990–2017显示文摘Background:Statistical data on the burden and relevant risk factors of lung cancer are valuable for policy-making.This study aimed to compare the mortality of lung cancer attributable to smoking stratified by sex and age among adults in China and the United States(US).Methods:We extracted age-standardized mortality rates of lung cancer during 1990-2017 using the comparative risk assessment framework of the 2017 Global Burden of Disease study.We performed an age-period-cohort analysis to estimate time trend of lung cancer mortality attributable to smoking.Results:During 1990-2017,the age-standardized mortality rate of lung cancer was increasing in China but decreasing in the US for both sexes.The mortality attributable to smoking in China showed a generally increasing trend,while a continuous decrease was observed in the US.The age-period-cohort analysis showed a similar trend of age effect among adults between China and the US:the mortality substantially increased from the 30-34 to 80-84 age group and subsequently decreased in the 90-94 age group.However,the period effect rapidly increased in Chinese adults during 1990-2017,while it tended to be stable in the US although it was still slightly increasing in women.The cohort effect generally peaked in the earlier cohort born in 1902-1906 in the two countries.Conclusions:During 1990-2017,the lung cancer mortality attributable to smoking and the period effect are generally increasing in Chinese adults;the mortality attributable to smoking is decreasing in the US adults,but the period effect tends to be stable.The rapid aging and prevalence of smoking may intensify the increasing mortality of lung cancer in China.Xiaoxue Liu Yong Yu Minsheng Wang Sumaira Mubarik Fang Wang Yafeng Wang Runtang Meng Chuanhua Yu 2020Cancer Communications2020,40,11:17
2Processing of a Novel Zn Alloy Micro-Tube for Biodegradable Vascular Stent Application显示文摘In recent years, zinc based alloys as a new biodegradable metal material aroused intensive interests.However, the processing of Zn alloys micro-tubes(named slender-diameter and thin-walled tubes) is very difficult due to their HCP crystal structure and unfavorable mechanical properties. This study aimed to develop a novel technique to produce micro-tube of Zn alloy with good performance for biodegradable vascular stent application. In the present work, a processing method that combined drilling, cold rolling and optimized drawing was proposed to produce the novel Zn–5Mg–1Fe(wt%) alloy microtubes. The micro-tube with outer diameter of 2.5 mm and thickness of 130 μm was fabricated by this method and its dimension errors are within 10 μm. The micro-tube exhibits a fine and homogeneous microstructure, and the ultimate tensile strength and ductility are more than 220 MPa and 20% respectively. In addition, the micro-tube and stents of Zn alloy exhibit superior in vitro corrosion and expansion performance. 5Fate of river‐transported carbon in china:implications for carbon cycling in coastal ecosystems显示文摘Rivers play an important role in carbon(C)exchange between terrestrial and oceanic water bodies and the atmosphere.The aim of this study was to systematically quantify fluxes in riverine C export and C exchange in the air-sea interface of marine ecosystems in China.Results show that annual C transport from rivers to coastal ecosystems in China can reach up to 64.35 TgC,which accounts for approximately 4.8%-8.1%of global C transport from river systems.In the Bohai Sea,particulate inorganic carbon is the main form of C influx,and it can reach up to 20.79 TgC/yr.Conversely,dissolved inorganic carbon is the main form of C influx into the East China Sea,and it can reach up to 10.52 TgC/yr,which is 42.6%of the total annual C imported into the East China Sea.China’s marine ecosystems including the Yellow Sea,the Bohai Sea,the East China Sea,and the South China Sea can absorb 65.06 TgC/yr from the atmosphere.Yang Gao Tiantian Yang Yafeng Wang Guirui Yu 2017Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2017,3,3:2
6The reconstruction and interpretations of lake status at 6 ka and 18 ka B.P.in inland mainland Asia显示文摘By means of survey of literature through compilations of sedimentological, biogeological and geomorphologic data, the inland lake level changes in arid or semi arid mainland Asia at 6 and 18 ka B.P. have been reconstructed. The results showed that the lakes from western and northwestern Asia were characterized by very high water levels at 18 ka B.P., but low or intermediate water stands at 6 ka B.P. The high lake level in this region was associated with the southward displacement of westerlies, therefore, the extent of the high lake stand indicated the southern flank of westerlies during the glaciation. Conversely, the lakes from the eastern and southern Asia registered comparative low levels at 18 ka B.P. and significantly high one at 6 ka B.P. The lowering of lake level at 18 ka B.P. was caused by the weakened summer monsoon and the high lake level at 6 ka B.P. by the enhanced summer monsoon induced by the enlarged thermal contrast between land and ocean. The extent of high lake levels indicated the northern boundary of monsoon expansion. Between the above two regions, there is a climatic transitional zone in the Central Asia where the lake behavior was close to that in southeastern Asia at 6 ka B.P. but became similar to that in northwestern Asia at 18 ka B.P. 7Generation of transgenic wheat resistant to wheat yellow mosaic virus and identification of gene silence induced by virus infection显示文摘The plasmid containing the promoter Actl, the coat protein (cp) gene of wheat yellow mosaic virus (WYMV) and the selectable bar gene, was delivered via particle bombardment, directly into immature embryos of a wheat culti-vars. PCR and PCR-RFLP were employed to screen the existence of the cp gene in T0 and T1 generations. Seeds from the positive T1 plants were sowed in fields heavily contaminated with WYMV to detect their resistance. In field trial of virus infection, one of the transgenic wheat lines, P8-T2, exhibited highly disease-resistance. Western blot and RT-PCR analysis showed that the expression level of cp gene in the resistant transgenic line was reduced greatly compared to those susceptible to WYMV infection. 8Waterbomb-origami inspired triboelectric nanogenerator for smart pavement-integrated traffic monitoring显示文摘With a rapid development of intelligent transportation systems(ITSs),traffic monitoring has gained increasing attention.Here,we present a new kind of waterbomb-origami-inspired triboelectric nanogenerator(WO-TENG)as a traffic monitoring system to integrate smart pavement with lightweight,cost-effective,excellent deformability,flexibility,and self-rebounding properties.The electrical performance is significantly improved by more than 67%compared with current origami-based TENG,and multi tribo-pairs have great synchronicity.The fully-packaged self-driven WO-TENG is further developed to integrate smart pavement,which can successfully decouple the influence of vehicle speed and weight on the sensing accuracy.This phenomenon demonstrates the feasibility and stability of the WO-TENG for traffic monitoring.Independently of the voltage amplitude and time interval electrical wave,vehicle speed,number of vehicles,and types of vehicles can be further evaluated accurately.This work can not only address the challenge of traditional traffic monitoring system,but also promote the development of TENG based self-powered sensors in ITSs.Yafeng Pang Xingyi Zhu Ying Yu Shuainian Liu Yu Chen Yi Feng 2022Nano Research2022,15,6:2
9Quantitative analysis of the tribological properties of phosphate glass at the nano- and macro-scales显示文摘Processing(grinding,polishing)of phosphate laser(PL)glass involves material removal at two vastly different(spatial)scales.In this study,the nano‐and macro‐tribological properties of PL glass are investigated by rubbing the glass against a SiO_(2) counter‐surface in both dry and humid conditions.The results indicate that the friction of the PL glass/SiO_(2) pair has opposing trends at the nano‐and macroscales.At the nanoscale,the friction coefficient(COF)in humid air is much higher than in dry air,which is attributed to the capillary effect of the absorbed water‐film at the interface.At the macroscale,on the other hand,the COF in humid air is lower than in dry air,because the water‐related mechanochemical wear makes the worn surface less susceptible to cracking.Material removal for PL glass is better facilitated by humid air than by dry air at both scales,because the stress‐enhanced hydrolysis accelerates the material‐removal process in glass.Moreover,the material‐removal is more sensitive to contact pressure at the macroscale,because stronger mechanical‐interaction occurs during material removal at the macroscale with the multi asperity contact mode.At the macroscale,the material removal is more sensitive to contact pressure in humid air compared to dry air.Because almost all mechanical energy is used to remove material in humid air,and most of the mechanical energy is used to produce cracks in PL glass in dry air.The results of this study can help optimize the multi‐scale surface processing of optical glasses.Huimin QI Wen HU Hongtu HE Yafeng ZHANG Chenfei SONG Jiaxin YU 2021Friction2021,9,5:1

17Regeneration and utilization of nutrients during collapse of a Mesodinium rubrum red tide and its influence on phytoplankton species composition显示文摘High-biomass red tides occur frequently in some semi-enclosed bays of Hong Kong where ambient nutrients are not high enough to support such a high phytoplankton biomass. These high-biomass red tides release massive inorganic nutrients into local waters during their collapse. We hypothesized that the massive inorganic nutrients released from the collapse of red tides would fuel growth of other phytoplankton species. This could influence phytoplankton species composition. We tested the hypothesis using a red tide event caused by Mesodinium rubrum(M. rubrum) in a semi-enclosed bay, Port Shelter. The red tide patch had a cell density as high as 5.0×10~5 cells L^(-1), and high chlorophyll a(63.71 μg L^(-1)). Ambient inorganic nutrients(nitrate:NO_3^-, ammonium: NH_4^+, phosphate: PO_4^(3-), silicate: SiO_4^(3-)) were low both in the red tide patch and the non-red-tide patch(clear waters outside the red tide patch). Nutrient addition experiments were conducted by adding all the inorganic nutrients to water samples from the two patches followed by incubation for 9 days. The results showed that the addition of inorganic nutrients did not sustain high M. rubrum cell density, which collapsed after day 1, and did not drive M. rubrum in the non-red-tide patch sample to the same high-cell density in the red tide patch sample. This confirmed that nutrients were not the driving factor for the formation of this red tide event, or for its collapse. The death of M. rubrum after day 1 released high concentrations of NO_3^-,PO_4^(3-), SiO_4^(3-), NH_4^+, and urea. Bacterial abundance and heterotrophic activity increased, reaching the highest on day 3 or 4, and decreased as cell density of M. rubrum declined. The released nutrients stimulated growth of diatoms, such as Chaetoceros affinis var. circinalis, Thalassiothrix frauenfeldii, and Nitzschia sp., particularly with additions of SiO_4^(3-) treatments, and other species.
