A sulfur self-doped multifunctional biochar catalyst for overall water splitting and a supercapacitor from Camellia japonica flowers显示文摘A versatile use of a sulfur self-doped biochar derived from Camellia japonica(camellia)flowers is demonstrated as a multifunctional catalyst for overall water splitting and a supercapacitor. The native sulfur content in the camellia flower facilitates in situ self-doping of sulfur, which highly activates the camellia-driven biochar(SA-Came)as a multifunctional catalyst with the enhanced electron-transfer ability and long-term durability. For water splitting,an SA-Came-based electrode is highly stable and shows reaction activities in both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, with overpotentials of 154 and 362 mV at 10 mA cm^(−2),respectively.For supercapacitors,SA-Came achieves a specific capacitance of 125.42 F g^(−1)at 2 A g^(−1)and high cyclic stability in a three-electrode system in a 1 M KOH electrolyte. It demonstrated a high energy density of 34.54 Wh kg^(−1)at a power density of 1600 W kg^(−1)as a symmetric hybrid supercapacitor device with a wide working potential range of 0-1.6 V. | Chengkai Xia Subramani Surendran Seulgi Ji Dohun Kim Yujin Chae Jaekyum Kim Minyeong Je Mi-Kyung Han Woo-Seok Choe Chang Hyuck Choi Heechae Choi Jung Kyu Kim Uk Sim | 2022 | Carbon Energy2022,4,4: | 3
Genome-wide analysis of the barley non-specific lipid transfer protein gene family显示文摘Non-specific lipid transfer proteins(nsLTPs) are small, basic proteins that are characterized by an eight-cysteine motif. The biological functions of these proteins have been reported to involve plant reproduction and biotic or abiotic stress response. With the completion of the barley genome sequence, a genome-wide analysis of nsLTPs in barley(Hordeum vulgare L.)(HvLTPs) will be helpful for understanding the function of nsLTPs in plants. We performed a genome-wide analysis of the nsLTP gene family in barley and identified 70 nsLTP genes, which can be divided into five types(1, 2, C, D, and G). Each type of nsLTPs shares similar exon and intron gene structures. Expression analysis showed that barley nsLTPs have diverse expression patterns, revealing their various roles. Our results shed light on the phylogenetic relationships and potential functions of barley nsLTPs and will be useful for future studies of barley development and molecular breeding. | Mengyue Zhang Yujin Kim Jie Zong Hong Lin Anne Dievart Huanjun Li Dabing Zhang Wanqi Liang | 2019 | The Crop Journal2019,7,1: | 2
Forest structure and carbon dynamics of an intact lowland mixed dipterocarp forest in Brunei Darussalam显示文摘Tropical forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change because they account for large amount o terrestrial carbon storage and productivity. However, there are many uncertainties associated with the estimation o carbon dynamics. We estimated forest structure and carbon dynamics along a slope(17.3°–42.8°)and to assess the relations between forest structures, carbon dynamics, and slopes in an intact lowland mixed dipterocarp forest,in Kuala Belalong,Brunei Darussalam.Living biomass, basa area, stand density, crown properties, and tree family composition were measured for forest structure.Growth rate, litter production, and litter decomposition rates were also measured for carbon dynamics. The crown form index and the crown position index were used to assess crown properties, which we categorized into five stages, from very poor to perfect. The living biomass, basal area and stand density were 261.5–940.7 Mg ha^(-1),43.6–63.6 m^2ha^(-1)and 6,675–8400 tree ha^(-1),respectively.The average crown form and position index were 4,which means that the crown are mostly symmetrical and sufficiently exposed for photosynthesis. The mean biomass growth rate, litter production, litter decomposition rate were estimated as11.9,11.6 Mg ha^(-1)a^(-1),and 7.2 g a^(-1),respectively.Biomass growth rate was significantly correlated with living biomass, basal area, and crown form.Crown form appeared to strongly influence living biomass, basal area and biomass growth rate in terms of light acquisition. However, basal area, stand density, crown properties, and biomass growth rate did not vary by slope or tree family composition. The results indicate that carbon accumulation by tree growth in an intact lowland mixed dipterocarp forest depends on crown properties.Absence of any effect of tree family composition on carbon accumulation suggests that the main driver of biomass accumulation in old-growth forests of Borneo is not species-specific characteristics of tree species. | Sohye Lee Jongyeol Lee Seongjun Kim Yujin Roh Kamariah Abu Salim Woo-Kyun Lee Yowhan Son | 2018 | Journal of Forestry Research2018,29,1: | 2

Prevalence and prognosis of acute pancreatitis in critically ill patients with COVID-19显示文摘Background:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a global pandemic issue. In addition to the well-known respiratory and fever symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms have also been reported. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and prognosis of patients with COVID-19 infection complicated with acute pancreatitis in intensive care unit(ICU).Methods:This was a retrospective observational cohort study, and patients aged 18 years or older,ad-mitted into the ICU in a single tertiary center from January 1,2020,to April 30,2022 were enrolled.Patients were identified by electronic medical records and reviewed manually. The primary outcome was the prevalence of acute pancreatitis among ICU patients with COVID-19.The secondary outcomes were the length of hospital stay, need for mechanical ventilation(MV),need for continuous renal replacement therapy(CRRT),and in-hospital mortality. Results:A total of 4133 patients, admitted into the ICU,were screened.Among these patients,389 were infected by COVID-19,and 86 were diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.COVID-19 positive patients were more likely to present with acute pancreatitis than COVID-19 negative patients(odds ratio=5.42,95%confidence interval:2.35-6.58,P<0.01).However,the length of hospital stay, need for MV,need for CRRT,and in-hospital mortality were not significantly different between acute pancreatitis patients with and without COVID-19 infection. Conclusions:Severe COVID-19 infections may cause acute pancreas damage in critically ill patients.How-ever,the prognosis may not differ between acute pancreatitis patients with and without COVID-19 infec-tion. | Dongju Kang SuHo Park Changkyo Oh YuJin Kim JinBae Kim SangHoon Park Myung Seok Lee JaeKeun Park | 2023 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2023,22,4: | 1
Development of exosome membrane materialsfused microbubbles for enhanced stability and efficient drug delivery of ultrasound contrast agent显示文摘Lipid-coated microbubbles are widely used as an ultrasound contrast agent,as well as drug delivery carriers. However, the two main limitations in ultrasound diagnosis and drug delivery using microbubbles are the short half-life in the blood system, and the difficulty of surface modification of microbubbles for active targeting. The exosome,a type of extracellular vesicle, has a preferentially targeting ability for its original cell.In this study,exosome-fused microbubbles(Exo-MBs)were developed by embedding the exosome membrane proteins into microbubbles. As a result, the stability of Exo-MBs is improved over the conventional microbubbles. On the same principle that under the exposure of ultrasound, microbubbles are cavitated and self-assembled into nano-sized particles, and Exo-MBs are self-assembled into exosome membrane proteins-embedded nanoparticles(Exo-NPs).The Exo-NPs showed favorable targeting properties to their original cells.A photosensitizer, chlorin e6,was loaded into Exo-MBs to evaluate therapeutic efficacy as a drug carrier.Much higher therapeutic efficacy of photodynamic therapy was confirmed, followed by cancer immunotherapy from immunogenic cell death. We have therefore developed a novel ultrasound image-guided drug delivery platform that overcomes the shortcomings of the conventional ultrasound contrast agent and is capable of simultaneous photodynamic therapy and cancer immunotherapy. | Yongho Jang Jeehun Park Pilsu Kim Eun-Joo Park Hyungjin Sun Yujin Baek Jaehun Jung Tai-kyong Song Junsang Doh Hyuncheol Kim | 2023 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,12: | 1
