| 1 | Distribution of sand dunes and sand shifts along the southern fringe of the Mu Us Desert since the Ming Dynasty显示文摘This article takes the two segments of the Ming Great Walls,Dabian and Erbian,and their associated barracks and forts as geographical references. Based on a detailed scrutiny of historical records of the Ming and Qing dynasties,and on field surveys,the southern boundaries of the sand dunes and sand shifts of the Mu Us Desert in the Ming and Qing dynasties are carefully reconstructed. A comparison of the southern boundaries of the sand dunes and sand shifts of the Mu Us Desert in Ming and Qing with the modern boundary revealed in remote sensing imagery clearly shows that the southern boundary of dunes and shifts in the Mu us Desert has expanded only in a few areas and on a small scale. In the area to the south of Changle Fort,along the direction of annually prevailing winds,sand drifts have pene-trated through the Jialu River valley into the loess region and have formed a sand strip of 32 km long and 3 km wide. To the east of Qingping Fort,sand drifts penetrated toward the eastern loess region through the Luhe River valley and have formed another sand strip of 8 km long and 2 km wide. Gener-ally speaking,though the intensity of human activity has been increasing in this area since the Ming Dynasty,the Mu Us Desert has not significantly expanded toward the southeast or southwest. | 2 | Targeted disruption of tyrosinase causes melanin reduction in Carassius auratus cuvieri and its hybrid progeny显示文摘The white crucian carp(Carassius auratus cuvieri,WCC) not only is one of the most economically important fish in Asia,characterized by strong reproductive ability and rapid growth rates,but also represents a good germplasm to produce hybrid progenies with heterosis.Gene knockout technique provides a safe and acceptant way for fish breeding.Achieving gene knockout in WCC and its hybrid progeny will be of great importance for both genetic studies and hybridization breeding.Tyrosinase(TYR) is a key enzyme in melanin synthesis.Depletion of tyr in zebrafish and mice results in mosaic pigmentation or total albinism.Here,we successfully used CRISPR-Cas9 to target tyr in WCC and its hybrid progeny(WR) derived from the cross of WCC(♀) and red crucian carp(Carassius auratus red var.,RCC,♂).The level of TYR protein was significantly reduced in mutant WCC.Both the mutant WCC and the mutant WR showed different degrees of melanin reduction compared with the wild-type sibling control fish,resulting from different mutation efficiency ranging from 60% to 90%.In addition,the transcriptional expression profiles of a series of pivotal pigment synthesis genes,i.e.tyrp1,mitfa,mitfb,dct and sox10,were down-regulated in tyr-CRISPR WCC,which ultimately caused a reduction in melanin synthesis.These results demonstrated that tyr plays a key role in melanin synthesis in WCC and WR,and CRISPR-Cas9 is an effective tool for modifying the genome of economical fish.Furthermore,the tyr-CRISPR models could be valuable in understanding fundamental mechanisms of pigment formation in non-model fish. | Qingfeng Liu Yanhua Qi Qiuli Liang Jia Song Junmei Liu Wuhui Li Yuqin Shu Min Tao Chun Zhang Qinbo Qin Jing Wang Shaojun Liu | 2019 | Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,9: | 4 |
| 3 | Evidence for the paternal mitochondrial DNA in the crucian carp-like fish lineage with hybrid origin显示文摘In terms of taxonomic status,common carp(Cyprinus carpio,Cyprininae)and crucian carp(Carassius auratus,Cyprininae)are different species;however,in this study,a newborn homodiploid crucian carp-like fish(2n=100)(2nNCRC)lineage(F1–F3)was established from the interspecific hybridization of female common carp(2n=100)×male blunt snout bream(Megalobrama amblycephala,Cultrinae,2n=48).The phenotypes and genotypes of 2 n NCRC differed from those of its parents but were closely related to those of the existing diploid crucian carp.We further sequenced the whole mitochondrial(mt)genomes of the 2n NCRC lineage from F1 to F3.The paternal mt DNA fragments were stably embedded in the mt-genomes of F1–F3 generations of 2n NCRC to form chimeric DNA fragments.Along with this chimeric process,numerous base sites of F1–F3 generations of 2 n NCRC underwent mutations.Most of these mutation sites were consistent with the existing diploid crucian carp.Moreover,the mt DNA organization and nucleotide composition of 2n NCRC were more similar to those of the existing diploid crucian carp than those of the parents.The inheritable chimeric DNA fragments and mutant loci in the mt-genomes of different generations of 2nNCRC provided important evidence of the mt DNA change process in the newborn lineage derived from hybridization of different species.Our findings demonstrated for the first time that the paternal mt DNA were transmitted into the mt-genomes of homodiploid lineage,which provided new insights into the existence of paternal mt DNA in the mt DNA inheritance. | Shi Wang Ni Jiao Lu Zhao Meiwen Zhang Pei Zhou Xuexue Huang Fangzhou Hu Conghui Yang Yuqin Shu Wuhui Li Chun Zhang Min Tao Bo Chen Ming Ma Shaojun Liu | 2020 | Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,1: | 2 |
| 4 | SEM-CL Study of Quartz Containing Fluid Inclusions in Wangjiazhuang Porphyry Copper (-Molybdenum) Deposit, Western Shandong, China显示文摘The Wangjiazhuang porphyry copper(-molybdenum)deposit is located at Zouping volcanic basin in Shandong Province,East China and hosted in the Wangjiazhuang intrusive complex emplaced along a late volcanic conduit.There are two types of ores in this deposit:early disseminated and stockwork ores in the ore-bearing intrusion,and late massive sulfide-quartz veins above brecciated quartz monzonite.The ore minerals are mainly pyrite,chalcopyrite,and subordinately magnetite,tennantite,molybdenite with minor bornite,enargite,galena and sphalerite,etc.,and gangue minerals including K-feldspar,biotite,quartz,muscovite-sericite,chlorite and calcite.Combined with fluid inclusion study,the scanning electron microscope-cathodoluminescence(SEM-CL)study of quartz in the deposit and wall rocks shows significant differences between the two types of quartz in the ores.In addition,four types of primary-pseudosecondary fluid inclusions in the quartz have been recognized.They are one-or two-phase aqueous inclusions with vapor/liquid ratios less than 30%to 40%(type Ⅰ);gas-rich inclusions with vapor/liquid ratios more than 50%(type Ⅱ),some of which contain some small opaque minerals,probably chalcopyrite;multiphase fluid inclusions with daughter minerals of halite±anhydrite±opaque(chalcopyrite)±sylvite±hematite±unknown crystal(type Ⅲ);and mica-bearing fluid inclusions(type Ⅳ).Quartz containing abundant muscovite-bearing and halite-bearing fluid inclusions in the mineralized quartz monzonite with potassic-silicic alteration,have better oscillatory growth zoning with CL-colors from bright in the core to darker in the rim,indicating variations of element concentrations in the fluid media from which quartz grew during the later period of magmatic-hydrothermal process.In contrast,the quartz in the sulfide-quartz veins contains mainly fluid inclusions of low-to-medium salinities and does not show oscillatory zoning,indicating that there was less fluctuation in composition and element concentrations of the hydrothermal fluids.However,the quartz containing halite-bearing fluid inclusions and being associated with copper-molybdenum mineralization in the sulfide-quartz veins shows zoning in its rims,indicating variations in composition and element concentrations of the hydrothermal fluids. | Lei Shu Kun Shen Renchao Yang Yingxin Song Yuqin Sun Wei Shan Yuxin Xiong | 2020 | Journal of Earth Science2020,31,2: | 2 |

| 6 | Climate Warming Mitigation from Nationally Determined Contributions显示文摘Individual countries are requested to submit nationally determined contributions(NDCs)to alleviate global warming in the Paris Agreement.However,the global climate effects and regional contributions are not explicitly considered in the countries’decision-making process.In this study,we evaluate the global temperature slowdown of the NDC scenario(ΔT=0.6°C)and attribute the global temperature slowdown to certain regions of the world with a compact earth system model.Considering reductions in CO_(2),CH_(4),N_(2)O,BC,and SO_(2),the R5OECD(the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in 1990)and R5ASIA(Asian countries)are the top two contributors to global warming mitigation,accounting for 39.3%and 36.8%,respectively.R5LAM(Latin America and the Caribbean)and R5MAF(the Middle East and Africa)followed behind,with contributions of 11.5%and 8.9%,respectively.The remaining 3.5%is attributed to R5REF(the Reforming Economies).Carbon Dioxide emission reduction is the decisive factor of regional contributions,but not the only one.Other greenhouse gases are also important,especially for R5MAF.The contribution of short-lived aerosols is small but significant,notably SO_(2)reduction in R5ASIA.We argue that additional species beyond CO_(2)need to be considered,including short-lived pollutants,when planning a route to mitigate climate change.It needs to be emphasized that there is still a gap to achieve the Paris Agreement 2-degree target with current NDC efforts,let alone the ambitious 1.5-degree target.All countries need to pursue stricter reduction policies for a more sustainable world. | Bo FU Jingyi LI Thomas GASSER Philippe CIAIS Shilong PIAO Shu TAO Guofeng SHEN Yuqin LAI Luchao HAN Bengang LI | 2022 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,8: | 1 |
| 7 | Ccdc57 is required for straightening the body axis by regulating ciliary motility in the brain ventricle of zebrafish显示文摘Recently,cilia defects have been proposed to contribute to scoliosis.Here,we demonstrate that coiled-coil domain-containing 57(Ccdc57)plays an essential role in straightening the body axis of zebrafish by regulating ciliary beating in the brain ventricle(BV).Zygotic ccdc57(Zccdc57)mutant zebrafish developes scoliosis without significant changes in their bone density and calcification,and the maternal-zygotic ccdc57(MZccdc57)mutant embryos display curved bodies since the long-pec stage.The expression of ccdc57 is enriched in ciliated tissues and immunofluorescence analysis reveals colocalization of Ccdc57-HA with acetylated a-tubulin,implicating it in having a role in ciliary function.Further examination reveals that it is the coordinated cilia beating of multiple cilia bundles(MCB)in the MZccdc57 mutant embryos that is affected at 48 hours post fertilization,when the compromised cerebrospinal fluid flow and curved body axis have already occurred.Either ccdc57 m RNA injection or epinephrine treatment reverses the spinal curvature in MZccdc57 mutant larvae from ventrally curly to straight or even dorsally curly and significantly upregulates urotensin signaling.This study reveals the role of ccdc57 in maintaining coordinated cilia beating of MCB in the BV. | Lu Li Juan Li Yuan Ou Jiaxin Wu Huilin Li Xin Wang Liying Tang Xiangyan Dai Conghui Yang Zehong Wei Zhan Yin Yuqin Shu | 2023 | Journal of Genetics and Genomics2023,50,4: | 0 |
| 8 | Simultaneous extraction of level 2 and level 3 characteristics from latent fingerprints imaged with quantum dots for improved fingerprint analysis显示文摘Fingerprints are unique and life-long to everyone, so they occupy very important statuses in forensic science. However, due to the limit of current imaging technologies and instruments, recognition and matching of fingerprints are mostly based on their level 2 structures(bifurcation, crossover, and etc.).Moreover, in real-world cases, fingerprints collected in the field are often incomplete or damaged, which adds further difficulty in fingerprint analysis. Quantum dots(QDs) are superior fluorescent imaging agents for latent fingerprints, which can provide both level 2 and level 3(sweat pores) details. Here, we used red-emitting N-acetylcysteine-capped Cd Te QDs as imaging agent for staining of eccrine LFPs. The numbers of level 2 and level 3 features that can be mapped are significantly larger than those obtained by cyanoacrylate fuming, a standard technique being adopted at forensic scene. Therefore, the level 2 and level 3 characteristics from QD-staining were simultaneously extracted for improved fingerprint analysis.A preliminary fingerprint matching based modified Pore Matching algorithm was thus developed based on the integration of both level 2 and level 3 characteristics. | 9 | Prevalence and Severity of HBV-Associated Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure Due to Irregular Medication of Nucleos(t)ide Analogs显示文摘Hepatitis B virus(HBV)represents the commonest etiologic agent of acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)in most Asian countries.Nucleos(t)ide analogs(NAs)are effective in the treatment of chronic HBV infections,but may also exacerbate the disease and stimulate its development into HBV-associated ACLF if not used appropriately.The current study aimed to assess the prevalence and severity of HBV-associated ACLF as a result from irregular medication of NAs(IMNA).A total of 1134 individuals with HBV-associated ACLF in nine hospitals in Heilongjiang Province were enrolled in this study between 2005 and 2015.Among these,777 chronic hepatitis B(CHB)and 357 HBV-associated liver cirrhosis cases were classified based on various predisposing factors,including IMNA,HBV reactivation(HBVR),infections,treatment drugs,alcohol use and others(hepatitis C virus,hepatitis E virus,gastrointestinal bleeding and unknown reasons).The percentage and improvement rate were examined.Among individuals with HBV-associated ACLF and CHB,IMNA was found in 9.01%,HBVR in 46.20%,infections in 9.52%,treatment drugs in 14.67%,alcohol in 11.71%,and others in 24.58%as predisposing factors.Improvement rates in cases with IMNA,HBVR,infections,treatment drugs,alcohol and others were 41.43%,58.50%,58.11%,56.14%,53.85%,and 65.97%,respectively.Multivariable analysis showed that IMNA,others,infections,hepatic encephalopathy and hepatorenal syndrome were associated with prognosis.Only IMNA independently predicted HBV-associated ACLF prognosis.Overall,our study demonstrated that the percentage of IMNAinduced HBV-associated ACLF was 12.61%,and worse disease conditions resulted from IMNA compared with other factors.Thus,the suitability of treatment with NAs should be thoroughly evaluated. | Ying Zheng Shu Chen Yanxin Huang Lisheng Jiang Yongguo Li Yinghua Lan Shuchen Li Yuqin Xu Xiaodong Li Hongwei Zhao Yanbo Wang Ying Shen Chao Wei Honglin Zhou Rongshan Fan Xiqiu Zeng Mingxia Jiang Shupeng Song Mingyan Xu | 2021 | Infectious Microbes & Diseases2021,3,4: | 0 |
