1The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 2Preventive effect of a pectic polysaccharide of the common cranberry Vaccinium oxycoccos L. on acetic acid-induced colitis in mice显示文摘AIM: To study isolation and chemical characterization of pectin derived from the common cranberry Vaccinium oxycoccos L. (oxycoccusan OP) and the testing of its preventive effect on experimental colitis.METHODS: Mice were administrated orally with OP two days prior to a rectal injection of 5% acetic acid and examined for colonic damage 24 h later. Colonic inflammation was characterized by macroscopical injury and enhanced levels of myeloperoxidase activity measured spectrophotometrically with o-phenylene diamine as the substrate. The mucus contents of the colon were determined by the Alcian blue dye binding method. Vascular permeability was estimated using 4% Evans blue passage after i.p. injection of 0.05 mol/L acetic acid. RESULTS: In the mice treated with OP, colonic macroscopic scores (1.1 ± 0.4 vs 2.7, P < 0.01) and the total square area of damage (10 ± 2 vs 21 ± 7, P < 0.01) were significantly reduced when compared with the vehicle-treated colitis group. OP was shown to decrease the tissue myeloperoxidase activity in colons (42 ± 11 vs 112 ± 40, P < 0.01) and enhance the amount of mucus of colitis mice (0.9 ± 0.1 vs 0.4 ± 0.1, P < 0.01). The level of colonic malondialdehyde was noted to decrease in OP-pretreated mice (3.6 ± 0.7 vs 5.1 ± 0.8, P < 0.01). OP was found to decrease the inflammatory status of mice as was determined by reduction of vascular permeability (161 ± 34 vs 241 ± 21, P < 0.01). Adhesionof peritoneal neutrophils and macrophages was also shown to decrease after administration of OP (141 ± 50 vs 235 ± 37, P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Thus, a preventive effect of pectin from the common cranberry, namely oxycoccusan OP, on acetic acid-induced colitis in mice was detected. 4Molecular pathways of liver regeneration:A comprehensive review显示文摘The liver is a unique parenchymal organ with a regenerative capacity allowing it to restore up to 70%of its volume.Although knowledge of this phenomenon dates back to Greek mythology(the story of Prometheus),many aspects of liver regeneration are still not understood.A variety of different factors,including inflammatory cytokines,growth factors,and bile acids,promote liver regeneration and control the final size of the organ during typical regeneration,which is performed by mature hepatocytes,and during alternative regeneration,which is performed by recently identified resident stem cells called“hepatic progenitor cells”.Hepatic progenitor cells drive liver regeneration when hepatocytes are unable to restore the liver mass,such as in cases of chronic injury or excessive acute injury.In liver maintenance,the body mass ratio is essential for homeostasis because the liver has numerous functions;therefore,a greater understanding of this process will lead to better control of liver injuries,improved transplantation of small grafts and the discovery of new methods for the treatment of liver diseases.The current review sheds light on the key molecular pathways and cells involved in typical and progenitor-dependent liver mass regeneration after various acute or chronic injuries.Subsequent studies and a better understanding of liver regeneration will lead to the development of new therapeutic methods for liver diseases.Yana V Kiseleva Sevak Z Antonyan Tatyana S Zharikova Kirill A Tupikin Dmitry V Kalinin Yuri O Zharikov 2021World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,3:2
5Recent advances and perspectives in next generation sequencing application to the genetic research of type 2 diabetes显示文摘Type 2 diabetes(T2D)mellitus is a common complex disease that currently affects more than 400 million people worldwide and has become a global health problem.High-throughput sequencing technologies such as whole-genome and whole-exome sequencing approaches have provided numerous new insights into the molecular bases of T2D.Recent advances in the application of sequencing technologies to T2D research include,but are not limited to:(1)Fine mapping of causal rare and common genetic variants;(2)Identification of confident genelevel associations;(3)Identification of novel candidate genes by specific scoring approaches;(4)Interrogation of disease-relevant genes and pathways by transcriptional profiling and epigenome mapping techniques;and(5)Investigation of microbial community alterations in patients with T2D.In this work we review these advances in application of next-generation sequencing methods for elucidation of T2D pathogenesis,as well as progress and challenges in implementation of this new knowledge about T2D genetics in diagnosis,prevention,and treatment of the disease.Yulia A Nasykhova Yury A Barbitoff Elena A Serebryakova Dmitry S Katserov Andrey S Glotov 2019World Journal of Diabetes2019,10,7:2
6Similar Soils but Different Soil-Forming Factors: Converging Evolution of Inceptisols in Brazil显示文摘Soils result from the interaction of five independent formation factors.If one factor varies,while the others remain constant,different soils can be produced.Herein,we demonstrated an opposing trend,wherein two soils were similar,despite considerable differences in all factors of soil formation.We sampled two Inceptisols(Oxic Dystrudepts) formed on different parent materials(gneiss vs.mica schist),climate(tropical altimontane vs.warmer,drier plateau),topography(1 650 m,45% slope vs.1 000 m,8% slope),time(rejuvenated vs.old,stable surface),and vegetation(rainforest vs.Cerrado savanna).The two soils had similar chemical properties,whereas the soil on mica schist had finer particle size distribution,lower porosity,and lower saturated hydraulic conductivity.These properties were related to a coarser blocky microstructure compared to the soil on gneiss.Both soils presented active mineral weathering and pronounced pedoplasmation,demonstrated by clay contents>300 g kg^(-1),although only the Dystrudept on gneiss possessed coarse rock fragments.The C horizons of both soils presented fragmented clay coatings suggestive of argilluviation,likely relict,because they were not observed in the B horizons.The similarities in many properties of the two Dystrudepts,despite contrasting factors of soil formation,suggest converging evolution and that soil classification at the subgroup level was efficient in grouping similar formative processes in tropical conditions.Moreover,this work revealed that similar pedogenic processes acting on different factors of soil formation can result in similar soil properties,at least for Inceptisols where further soil development is hindered by topographic limitations.Alba L.A.SKORUPA Sérgio H.G.SILVA Giovana C.POGGERE Diego TASSINARI Leundro C.PINTO Yuri L.ZINN Nilton CURI 2017Pedosphere2017,27,4:2
