| 1 | Effects of Terracing and Agroforestry on Soil and Water Loss in Hilly Areas of the Sichuan Basin, China显示文摘Soil erosion in hilly areas of the Sichuan Basin is a serious concern over sustainable crop production and sound ecosystem. A 3-year experiment was conducted using the method of runoff plots to examine the effects of terracing and agroforestry in farmland systems on soil and water conservation of slope fields in the hilly areas in Jianyang County, Sichuan Province, Southwestern China. A power function (Y = aXb) can statistically describe the relationship between water runoff (Y) and rainfall (X). The regression equation for the treatment of sloping terraces with crops (Plot 2) is remarkably different from that for the treatment of sloping terraces with grasses and trees (Plot 1) and the conventional up- and down-slope crop system (Plot 3) regarding equation coefficients, while regression equations are similar between Plot 1 and Plot 3. Water runoff amount and runoff coefficient of slope fields increased by 21.5~41.0 % and 27.5~69.7 % respectively, compared to those of sloping terraces, suggesting that terracing notably reduced the water runoff in the field. In the case of sloping terraces, lower amount of water runoff was observed on sloping terraces with crops than on sloping terraces with grasses and trees. Sediment yields on the slope fields in the normal year of rainfall distribution were notably higher (34.41~331.67 % and 37.06~403.44 % for Plot 1 and Plot 2, respectively) than those on sloping terraces, implying that terracing also plays a significant role in the reduction in soil erosion. It is suggested that terracing with crops is significantly effective for soil and water conservation in cultivatedfarmland, while the conventional practice of up- and down- slope cultivation creates high rates of water runoff and soil sediment transport. | 2 | Effect of Rotation Rate on Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of FSW Mg-Zn-Y-Zr Alloy Joints显示文摘Friction stir welding (FSW) of Mg-Zn-Y-Zr plates with 6 mm in thickness was successfully carried out under a wide range of rotation rates of 600-1200 r/min with a constant traverse speed of 100 mm/min. After FSW, the coarse grains in the parent material (PM) were changed into fine equiaxed recrystallized grains at the nugget zone (NZ). Furthermore, the coarse Mg-Zn-Y particles (W-phase) were broken up and dispersed homogenously into the Mg matrix. With increasing rotation rates, the size of the W-phase particles at the NZ significantly decreased, but the recrystallized grain size tended to increase. The hardness values of the NZs for all the FSW joints were higher than those of the PM, and the lowest hardness values were detected in the heat affected zone (HAZ). The fracture occurred in the thermo-mechanical affected zone (TMAZ) on the advancing side for all the FSW joints in the tensile test, due to the incompatibility of the plastic deformation between the NZ and TMAZ caused by remarkably different orientation of grains and W-phase particles. | 4 | Numerical Simulation of Solidification of Work Roll in Centrifugal Casting Process显示文摘A program on the solidification process of horizontal centrifugal casting coupled with eutectic carbides segregation has been developed in this paper.Due to the geometrical features of work roll,a cylindrical coordinate system was used.The temperature field of the outer layer at the end of filling process was imported as the initial temperature condition for the solidification process.The model of eutectic carbides segregation caused by different densities between eutectic MC and the molten steel was coupled in the program.The temperature field of the outer layer of work roll during horizontal centrifugal casting process was investigated.Results show that the outer layer has a 'sandwich shape' solid fraction manner.Results also indicate that the segregation of eutectic MC is quite severe during centrifugal casting process.It forms four zones of different content of carbides in radial direction.The simulated results of MC carbides segregation phenomenon agree with the experimental observations. | Nannan Song Yikun Luan Yunlong Bai Z.A.
