Spatial patterns of ecosystem vulnerability changes during 2001–2011 in the three-river source region of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, China显示文摘The three-river source region(TRSR, including Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers), located in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, China, is a typical alpine zone with apparent ecosystem vulnerability and sensitivity. In this paper, we introduced many interdisciplinary factors, such as landscape pattern indices(Shannon diversity index and Shannon evenness index) and extreme climate factors(number of extreme high temperature days, number of extreme low temperature days, and number of extreme precipitation days), to establish a new model for evaluating the spatial patterns of ecosystem vulnerability changes in the TRSR. The change intensity(CI) of ecosystem vulnerability was also analyzed. The results showed that the established evaluation model was effective and the ecosystem vulnerability in the whole study area was intensive. During the study period of 2001–2011, there was a slight degradation in the eco-environmental quality. The Yellow River source region had the best eco-environmental quality, while the Yangtze River source region had the worst one. In addition, the zones dominated by deserts were the most severely deteriorated areas and the eco-environmental quality of the zones occupied by evergreen coniferous forests showed a better change. Furthermore, the larger the change rates of the climate factors(accumulative temperature of ≥10°C and annual average precipitation) are, the more intensive the CI of ecosystem vulnerability is. This study would provide a scientific basis for the eco-environmental protection and restoration in the TRSR.GUO Bing ZHOU Yi ZHU Jinfeng LIU Wenliang WANG Futao WANG Litao YAN Fuli WANG Feng YANG Guang LUO Wei JIANG Lin 2016Journal of Arid Land2016,8,1:16
In vivo flow cytometry reveals a circadian rhythm of circulating tumor cells显示文摘Circulating tumor cells(CTCs)is an established biomarker of cancer metastasis. The circulation dynamics of CTCs are important for understanding the mechanisms underlying tumor cell dissemination.Although studies have revealed that the circadian rhythm may disrupt the growth of tumors,it is generally unclear whether the circadian rhythm controls the release of CTCs.In clinical examinations, the current in vitro methods for detecting CTCs in blood samples are based on a fundamental assumption that CTC counts in the peripheral blood do not change significantly over time, which is being challenged by recent studies.Since it is not practical to draw blood from patients repeatedly,a feasible strategy to investigate the circadian rhythm of CTCs is to monitor them by in vivo detection methods.Fluoresce nee in vivo flow cytometry(IVFC)is a powerful optical technique that is able to detect fluoresce nt circulating cells directly in living animals in a noninvasive manner over a long period of time.In this study,we applied fluorescence IVFC to monitor CTCs noninvasively in an orthotopic mouse model of human prostate cancer. We observed that CTCs exhibited stochastic bursts over cancer progression. The probability of the bursting activity was higher at early stages than at late stages. We longitudinally monitored CTCs over a 24-h period, and our results revealed striking daily oscillations in CTC counts that peaked at the onset of the night(active phase for rodents),suggesting that the release of CTCs might be regulated by the circadian rhythm.Xi Zhu Yuanzhen Suo Yuting Fu Fuli Zhang Nan Ding Kai Pang Chengying Xie Xiaofu Weng Meilu Tian Hao He Xunbin Wei 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,6:6
Thermodynamic Analysis and Optimization of an Irreversible Maisotsenko-Diesel Cycle显示文摘So far,Maisotsenko cycle has been applied to many fields such as heating ventilation and air-conditioning,power industry, chemical production, and so on.A lot of researches about classical thermodynamic analyses of Maisotsenko cycle have been made.A new cycle model of combined Diesel and Maisotsenko cycles considering heat transfer loss(HTL),piston friction loss(PFL)and internal irreversible loss(IIL)was proposed in this paper.By using the finite time thermodynamic(FTT)theory, the power and efficiency performances of the Maisotsenko-Diesel cycle(MDC)were studied.Effects of mass flow rate(MFR)of water injection in the Maisotsenko air saturator(MAS)and the other parameters related to the design of Diesel engine on the optimal cycle performances were analyzed.Furthermore,it was testified that irreversible MDC was superior than conventional irreversible Diesel cycle in both power output and thermal efficiency. The results can expand the application of Maisotsenko cycle(M-cycle)and provide some theoretical guidelines for the practical devices.ZHU Fuli CHEN Lingen WANG Wenhua 2019Journal of Thermal Science2019,28,4:5
Probing the fractional topological charge of a vortex light beam by using dynamic angular double slits显示文摘Vortex beams with fractional topological charge(FTC) have many special characteristics and novel applications. However, one of the obstacles for their application is the difficulty of precisely determining the FTC of fractional vortex beams. We find that when a vortex beam with an FTC illuminates a dynamic angular double slit(ADS), the far-field interference patterns that include the information of the FTC of the beam at the angular bisector direction of the ADS vary periodically. Based on this property, a simple dynamic ADS device and data fitting method can be used to precisely measure the FTC of a vortex light beam with an error of less than 5%.Jing Zhu Pei Zhang Dongzhi Fu Dongxu Chen Ruifeng Liu Yingnan Zhou Hong Gao Fuli Li 2016Photonics Research2016,4,5:4
Microglia modulation with 1070-nm light attenuates Aβ burden and cognitive impairment in Alzheimer’s disease mouse model显示文摘Photobiomodulation,by utilizing low-power light in the visible and near-infrared spectra to trigger biological responses in cells and tissues, has been considered as a possible therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease(AD),while its specific mechanisms have remained elusive. Here,we demonstrate that cognitive and memory impairment in an AD mouse model can be ameliorated by 1070-nm light via reducing cerebralβ-amyloid(Aβ)burden,the hallmark of AD.The glial cells, including microglia and astrocytes, play important roles in Aβclearance. Our results show that 1070-nm light pulsed at 10 Hz triggers microglia rather than astrocyte responses in AD mice. The 1070-nm lightinduced microglia responses with alteration in morphology and increased colocalization with Aβare sufficient to reduce Aβload in AD mice.Moreover,1070-nm light pulsed at 10 Hz can reduce perivascular microglia and promote angiogenesis to further enhance Aβclearance. Our study confirms the important roles of microglia and cerebral vessels in the use of 1070-nm light for the treatment of AD mice and provides a framework for developing a novel therapeutic approach for AD.Lechan Tao Qi Liu Fuli Zhang Yuting Fu Xi Zhu Xiaofu Weng Hongbin Han Yong Huang Yuanzhen Suo Liang Chen Xiaoling Gao Xunbin Wei 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,10:4
Reply to Comment on “In vivo flow cytometry reveals a circadian rhythm of circulating tumor cells”显示文摘Dear Editor,We thank Niedre et al.for their correspondence regarding our recent paper1.They proposed a point that the temporal distribution of circulating tumor cells(CTCs)monitored by diffuse in vivo flow cytometry in a multiple myeloma mouse model in their previous work2 might be different from our results.Niedre et al.claimed that CTC detection statistics deviated from Poisson but did not found circadian variations in CTC numbers in a multiple myeloma mouse model. They also cite another literature by Juratli.et al.3,in which the authors reported that CTC numbers did not always correlate with tumor size during cancer progression. However,by establishing an orthotopic mouse model of prostate cancer and utilizing the technology in vivo flow cytometry(IVFC),we found CTCs exhibited bursting activity and daily oscillation in an orthotopic model of prostate cancer.Xi Zhu Yuanzhen Suo Yuting Fu Fuli Zhang Nan Ding Kai Pang Chengying Xie Xiaofu Weng Meilu Tian Hao He Xunbin Wei 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,10:2
RNA-binding protein QKI regulates contact inhibition via Yes-associate protein in ccRCC显示文摘Contact inhibition adjusts organ size to the proper size and ensures the cultured cells growing to a monolayer.By regulating the downstream coordinator YAP,the evolutionarily conserved Hippo transduction pathway attunes cell growth and death in response to cell contact inhibition,polarity,self-renewal,and differentiation.Dysregulation of this pathway is involved in various diseases such as cancer.RNA-binding protein QKI regulates cell proliferation, metabolism, division, and immunity in various cancer models, but its role in cancer cell contact inhibition remains unclear. In this study,we aimed to clarify the relationship between QKI and YAP,and the role of their interaction in cell contact inhibition. We found a lower QKI expression level in sparse condition, whereas a higher expression level in confluent condition by western blot analysis and immunofluorescence assay.QKI knockdown elevated cell proliferation and invasion both in vitro and in vivo.Strikingly, the results of CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, and transwell assay showed that the phenomenon was in accord with the expression level of pYAP and reverse with YAP.Higher levels of Wnt3a and β-catenin were also found in xenografts of QKI-knockdown clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) CAKI-1 cells by western blot analysis and immumohistochemical staining. Finally,a positive correlation between QKI and pYAP was found in clinical specimens by immunohistochemistry. Thus,as a negative regulator of YAP,QKI attuned the cell contact inhibition, leading to inhibition of cancer cell proliferation and invasion through Wnt and GPCR pathway.Zheng Zhu Di Wei Xi'an Li Fuli Wang Fei Yan Zibao Xing Zhao Yan Huanyu Lu Dongsheng Zhai Ziehen Ye Geng Zhang Ping Meng Yu Zheng Jiarui Yuan Zifan Lu Jianlin Yuan 2019Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2019,51,1:2
Time-Modulated Transmissive Programmable Metasurface for Low Sidelobe Beam Scanning显示文摘Programmable metasurfaces have great potential for the implementation of low-complexity and low-cost phased arrays.Due to the difficulty of multiple-bit phase control, conventional programmable metasurfaces suffer a relatively high sidelobe level(SLL).In this manuscript,a time modulation strategy is introduced in the 1-bit transmissive programmable metasurface for reducing the SLLs of the generated patterns. After the periodic time modulation, harmonics are generated in each reconfigurable unit and the phase of the first-order harmonic can be dynamically controlled by applying different modulation sequences onto the corresponding unit.Through the high-speed modulation of the real-time periodic coding sequences on the metasurface by the programmable bias circuit, the equivalent phase shift accuracy to each metasurface unit can be improved to 6-bit and thus the SLLs of the metasurface could be reduced remarkably. The proposed time-modulated strategy is verified both numerically and experimentally with a transmissive programmable metasurface, which obtains an aperture efficiency over 34%and reduced SLLs of about-2o dB.The proposed design could offer a novel approach of a programmable metasurface framework for radar detection and secure communication applications.Xudong Baio Fuli Zhang Li Sun Anjie Cao Jin Zhang Chong He Longhai Liu Jianquan Yao Weiren Zhu 2022Research2022,,4:1
Perforated nitrogen-rich graphene-like carbon nanolayers supported Cu-In catalyst for boosting CO_(2) electroreduction to CO显示文摘The combination of a powerful CO_(2)-enriching carrier and robust active component provides a new idea for the construction of efficient catalysts for electrocatalytic CO_(2)reduction.Herein,novel perforated nitrogen-rich graphene-like carbon nanolayers(PNGC)are prepared from biomass derivatives, which promotes the oriented deposition of In-doped Cu_(2)(OH)_(3)(NO_(3))nanosheet patches.A robust Cu-In/PNGC composite catalyst is then obtained via simple in-situ electrochemical reduction.Unsurprisingly,CuIn/PNGC exhibits a CO Faradaic efficiency(FECO)of 91.3%and a remarkable CO partial current density(jCO)of 136.4 m A cm^(-2)at a moderate overpotential of 0.59 V for electrocatalytic CO_(2)reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR).DFT calculations and experimental studies indicate that the strong carrier effect of PNGC makes PNGC carried Cu-In nanosheets improved the adsorption capacity of CO_(2)gas,reconfigured electronic structure, and reduced free energy of key intermediate formation, thereby the CO_(2)activation and conversion are promoted.Xinxin Zhang Yuxiao Zhu Ziyong Liu Fuli Li Wei Zhou Zichao Dong Jingxin Fan Licheng Liu Chunhua Du 2022Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,,12:1
PLX8394,a RAF inhibitor, inhibits enterovirus 71 replication by blocking RAF/MEK/ERK signaling显示文摘Enterovirus 71(EV71)poses a serious threat to human health, with scattered outbreaks worldwide. There are several vaccines against a few EV71 strains but no efficient drug for the treatment of EV71 infection. Therefore,it is urgent and of significance to develop anti-EV71 drugs. Here,we found that PLX8394,a RAF inhibitor, possesses high antiviral activity against EV71 in vitro, being superior to the traditional clinical drug ribavirin.Moreover,PLX8394 exhibits broad-spectrum antiviral activity against enteroviruses.Notably,in a suckling mouse model,PLX8394 provided a 70%protection rate for EV71-infected mice, reduced the viral load in liver and heart tissues, and relieved the inflammatory response.A mechanistic study showed that PLX8394 inhibited EV71 by suppressing the RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathway.Thus,PLX8394 lays a foundation for the development of new drugs against EV71.Chengyuan Wu Guangyan Zhu Fang Qiu Fuli Ren Binbin Lin Dingyu Zhang Qingyu Yang Chaolin Huang 2023Virologica Sinica2023,38,2:0
Power and efficiency optimizations of Maisotsenko-Atkinson,Dual and Miller cycles and performance comparisons with corresponding traditional cycles显示文摘Maisotsenko cycle(M-cycle)has been combined with some cooling and power cycles, and behaves important thermodynamic advantage.Finite-time thermodynamics(FTT)is applied to establish three endoreversible models of M-Atkinson,M-Dual and M-Miller cycles. They are performed based on models of endoreversible Atkinson,Dual and Miller cycles by combing FTT model with M-cycle concept.Power output(POW)and thermal efficiency(TEF)of those M-cycles are studied and optimized by numerical calculations. The maximum power output(MPO)and the corresponding pressure ratio and TEF,the maximum TEF and the corresponding pressure ratio and POW,as well as optimal ranges of pressure ratio are obtained.Effects of mass flow rate of circulating water injection, initial cycle temperature and maximum cycle temperature on cycle POW,TEF and optimal pressure ratio range are analyzed. The optimal performances of the three M-cycles are compared with those of traditional Atkinson,Dual and Miller cycles under the same conditions. The results show that for the three M-cycles,end temperature of adiabatic expansion process of M-cycle is less than that of the corresponding traditional cycle,POW and TEF at arbitrary pressure ratio of M-cycle are much higher than those of the corresponding traditional cycle, and performance characteristics of M-cycles are superior to those of the corresponding traditional cycles.CHEN LinGen ZHU FuLi SHI ShuangShuang GE YanLin FENG HuiJun 2023Science China(Technological Sciences)2023,66,12:0
TCMFVis:A visual analytics system toward bridging together traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine显示文摘Although traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and modern medicine(MM)have considerably different treatment philosophies, they both make important contributions to human health care.TCM physicians usually treat diseases using TCM formula(TCMF),which is a combination of specific herbs, based on the holistic philosophy of TCM,whereas MM physicians treat diseases using chemical drugs that interact with specific biological molecules. The difference between the holistic view of TCM and the atomistic view of MM hinders their combination.Tools that are able to bridge together TCM and MM are essential for promoting the combination of these disciplines. In this paper,we present TCMFVis,a visual analytics system that would help domain experts explore the potential use of TCMFs in MM at the molecular level.TCMFVis deals with two significant challenges, namely,(i)intuitively obtaining valuable insights from heterogeneous data involved in TCMFs and(ii)efficiently identifying the common features among a cluster of TCMFs.In this study,a four-level(herb-ingredient-targetdisease)visual analytics framework was designed to facilitate the analysis of heterogeneous data in a proper workflow.Several set visualization techniques were first introduced into the system to facilitate the identification of common features among TCMFs.Case studies on two groups of TCMFs clustered by function were conducted by domain experts to evaluate TCMFVis.The results of these case studies demonstrate the usability and scalability of the system.Yichao Jin Fuli Zhu Jianhua Li Lei Ma 2023Visual Informatics2023,7,1:0
