| 1 | On the origin and continuing evolution of SARS-CoV-2显示文摘The SARS-Co V-2 epidemic started in late December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since impacted a large portion of China and raised major global concern. Herein, we investigated the extent of molecular divergence between SARS-CoV-2 and other related coronaviruses. Although we found only 4% variability in genomic nucleotides between SARS-CoV-2 and a bat SARS-related coronavirus(SARSr-CoV;Ra TG13), the difference at neutral sites was 17%, suggesting the divergence between the two viruses is much larger than previously estimated. Our results suggest that the development of new variations in functional sites in the receptor-binding domain(RBD) of the spike seen in SARS-Co V-2 and viruses from pangolin SARSr-Co Vs are likely caused by natural selection besides recombination. Population genetic analyses of 103 SARS-CoV-2 genomes indicated that these viruses had two major lineages(designated L and S), that are well defined by two different SNPs that show nearly complete linkage across the viral strains sequenced to date. We found that L lineage was more prevalent than the S lineage within the limited patient samples we examined. | 4 | Effects of temperature and organic and inorganic nutrients on the growth of Chattonella marina (Raphidophyceae)from the Daya Bay,South China Sea显示文摘The effects of temperature and different forms of nutrients on Chattonella marina growth have been investigated in strains isolated from the Daya Bay,the South China Sea.The strain of C.marina preferred high temperatures, with an optimal temperature of 25°C,and 18 °C was the minimum for its survival.Higher cell number and growth rate were obtained in high nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations (500 μ g/L, 74 μ g/L) than under nutrient limitation.Nitrogen influenced the growth most, as the specific growth rate and maximum cell density were lower in nitrogen-limited cultures than noted under phosphorus limitation or under limitation from both.C.marina was capable of using many kinds of organic nitrogen sources including L-serine (L-Ser),glycine (Gly),alanine (Ala),L-threonine (L-Thr), glutamic acid (Glu) and urea, but could not utilize uric acid.Various forms of organic phosphorus compound such as glucose-6-phosphate (G6P),sodium glycerophosphate (GYP),adenosine triphosphate (ATP),adenosine monophosphate (AMP),cytidine monophosphate (CMP),guanosine monophosphate (GMP),uridine monophosphate (UMP),4-nitrophenylphosphate (NPP) and triethyl phosphate (TEP) supported the growth as well. | 5 | Sensitivity-enhanced surface plasmon resonance sensor utilizing a tungsten disulfide (WS_2) nanosheets overlayer显示文摘Tungsten disulfide(WS_2), as a representative layered transition metal dichalcogenide(TMDC) material, possesses important potential for applications in highly sensitive sensors. Here, a sensitivity-enhanced surface plasmon resonance(SPR) sensor with a metal film modified by an overlayer of WS_2 nanosheets is proposed and demonstrated. The SPR sensitivity is related to the thickness of the WS_2 overlayer, which can be tailored by coating a WS_2 ethanol suspension with different concentrations or by the number of times of repeated post-coating.Benefitting from its large surface area, high refractive index, and unique optoelectronic properties, the WS_2 nanosheet overlayer coated on the gold film significantly improves the sensing sensitivity. The highest sensitivity(up to 2459.3 nm∕RIU) in the experiment is achieved by coating the WS_2 suspension once. Compared to the case without a WS_2 overlayer, this result shows a sensitivity enhancement of 26.6%. The influence of the WS_2 nanosheet overlayer on the sensing performance improvement is analyzed and discussed. Moreover, the proposed WS_2 SPR sensor has a linear correlation coefficient of 99.76% in refractive index range of 1.333 to 1.360. | 6 | Optical observations of LIGO source GW 170817 by the Antarctic Survey Telescopes at Dome A,Antarctica显示文摘The LIGO detection of gravitational waves(GW) from merging black holes in 2015 marked the beginning of a new era in observational astronomy. The detection of an electromagnetic signal from a GW source is the critical next step to explore in detail the physics involved. The Antarctic Survey Telescopes(AST3),located at Dome A, Antarctica, is uniquely situated for rapid response time-domain astronomy with its continuous night-time coverage during the austral winter. We report optical observations of the GW source(GW 170817) in the nearby galaxy NGC 4993 using AST3. The data show a rapidly fading transient at around 1 day after the GW trigger, with the i-band magnitude declining from 17:23 ± 0:13 magnitude to 17:72 ± 0:09 magnitude in ~1:8 h. The brightness and time evolution of the optical transient associated with GW 170817 are broadly consistent with the predictions of models involving merging binary neutron stars. | 9 | Hot deformation characterization of as-homogenized Al-Cu-Li X2A66 alloy through processing maps and microstructural evolution显示文摘Uniaxial compression tests were carried out on an Al-Cu-Li alloy at a temperature range of 300–500℃ and a strain rate range of 0.001–10 s^-1. Four representative instability maps based on Gegel, AlexanderMalas(A-M), Kumar-Prasad(K-P) and Murty-Rao(M-R) criteria were constructed. Through formula deduction and microstructural observation, it can be concluded that M-R criterion is more accurate than K-P criterion, and the first two criteria are better than Gegel and A-M criteria. From a power dissipation map and a M-R instability map, the optimized processing parameters are 480–500℃/0.001–0.1 s^-1 and 420–480℃/0.1-1 s^-1. The corresponding microstructural analysis shows that dynamic recovery and partial dynamic recrystallization are main dynamic softening mechanisms. Transmission electron microscopy observation indicated that a large number of primary coarse T1(Al2 Cu Li) particles precipitated in the homogenized specimen. However, biosynthesis of gold nanoplates is still a challenge because of the expensive source and difficulties of controllable formation of morphology and size. Herein, one-pot biosynthesis of gold nanoplates is proposed, in which cheap yeast was extracted as a green precursor. The morphologies and sizes of the gold nanostructures can be controlled via varying the pH value of the biomedium. In acid condition, gold nanoplates with side length from 1300 ± 200 to 300 ± 100 nm and height from 18 to 15 nm were obtained by increasing the pH value. Whereas, in neutral or basic condition, only gold nanoflowers and nanoparticles were obtained. It was determined that organic molecules, such as succinic acid, lactic acid, malic acid, and glutathione, which are generated in metabolism process, played important role in the reduction of gold ions. | 16 | Generalizing the Gerchberg–Saxton algorithm for retrieving complex optical transmission matrices显示文摘The Gerchberg–Saxton(GS)algorithm,which retrieves phase information from the measured intensities on two related planes(the source plane and the target plane),has been widely adopted in a variety of applications when holographic methods are challenging to be implemented.In this work,we showed that the GS algorithm can be generalized to retrieve the unknown propagating function that connects these two planes.As a proof-of-concept,we employed the generalized GS(GGS)algorithm to retrieve the optical transmission matrix(TM)of a complex medium through the measured intensity distributions on the target plane.Numerical studies indicate that the GGS algorithm can efficiently retrieve the optical TM while maintaining accuracy.With the same training data set,the computational time cost by the GGS algorithm is orders of magnitude less than that consumed by other non-holographic methods reported in the literature.Besides numerical investigations,we also experimentally demonstrated retrieving the optical TMs of a stack of ground glasses and a 1-m-long multimode fiber using the GGS algorithm.The accuracy of the retrieved TM was evaluated by synthesizing high-quality single foci and multiple foci on the target plane through these complex media.These results indicate that the GGS algorithm can handle a large TM with high efficiency,showing great promise in a variety of applications in optics. | GUOQIANG HUANG DAIXUAN WU JIAWEI LUO LIANG LU FAN LI YUECHENG SHEN ZHAOHUI LI | 2021 | Photonics Research2021,9,1: | 2 |
| 17 | Thyroxine treatment for elderly patients with heart failure and sick euthyroid syndrome显示文摘Objectives To evaluate the effect of thyroid hormone therapy with low dose of thyroxin on cardiac function in elderly patients with heart failure and sick euthyroid syndrome. Methods Forty-seven patients (33 males and 14 females, mean age 85.9+4.6 years,ranging from 80 to 99 years) with chronic heart failure (NYHA Ⅱ-Ⅳ) and low triiodothyronine (T3) state were randomly allocated to the treatment group or control group. The treatment group patients received oral administration of levothyroxine sodium (Euthyrox) 25-50mg/d in addition to conventional therapy of heart failure, whereas patients in control group were given conventional therapy only. Serum level of total T3 (TT3), free T3 (FT3), total thyroxine (TT4), free thyroxine (FT4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) were determined. For both groups, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and stroke volume (SV) were assessed by two-dimensional echocardiography before and at 8 weeks after treatment. The changes of these parameters after the treatment were evaluated by adjusting heart rate in the two groups. Results The reduced serum T3 level in the treatment group was corrected after thyroid hormone therapy,and these patients had a significant improvement in cardiac function after treatment. By contrast, in the control group only changes of serum TT3 and TT4 levels and SV and LVEF after treatment were statistically significant. The heart rate-adjusted mean SV and LVEF in both groups were also increased, which was significantly greater in the treatment group than in the control group.
