| 1 | A microporous surface containing Si3N4/Ta microparticles of PEKK exhibits both antibacterial and osteogenic activity for inducing cellular response and improving osseointegration显示文摘As an implantable biomaterial,polyetherketoneketone(PEKK)exhibits good mechanical strength but it is biologically inert while tantalum(Ta)possesses outstanding osteogenic bioactivity but has a high density and elastic modulus.Also,silicon nitride(SN)has osteogenic and antibacterial activity.In this study,a microporous surface containing both SN and Ta microparticles on PEKK(STP)exhibiting excellent osteogenic and antibacterial activity was created by sulfonation.Compared with sulfonated PEKK(SPK)without microparticles,the surface properties(roughness,surface energy,hydrophilicity and protein adsorption)of STP significantly increased due to the SN and Ta particles presence on the microporous surface.In addition,STP also exhibited outstanding antibacterial activity,which inhibited bacterial growth in vitro and prevented bacterial infection in vivo because of the presence of SN particles.Moreover,the microporous surface of STP containing both SN and Ta particles remarkably induced response(e.g.,proliferation and differentiation)of rat bone mesenchymal stem(rBMS)cells in vitro.Furthermore,STP significantly improved new bone regeneration and osseointegration in vivo.Regarding the induction of cellular response in vitro and improvement of osseointegration in vivo,the microporous surface containing Ta was better than the surface with SN particles.In conclusion,STP with optimized surface properties activated cellular responses in vitro,enhanced osseointegration and prevented infection in vivo.Therefore,STP possessed the dual biofunctions of excellent osteogenic and antibacterial activity,showing great potential as a bone substitute. | Xinglong Hu Shiqi Mei Fan Wang Songchao Tang Dong Xie Chao Ding Wenli Du Jun Zhao Lili Yang Zhaoying Wu Jie Wei | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,10: | 6 |
| 2 | β-Ga_2O_3 thin film grown on sapphire substrate by plasmaassisted molecular beam epitaxy显示文摘Monoclinic gallium oxide(Ga_2O_3) has been grown on(0001) sapphire(Al_2O_3) substrate by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy(PA-MBE). The epitaxial relationship has been confirmed to be [010]( 2ˉ01) β-Ga_2O_3||[ 011ˉ0](0001)Al_2O_3 via in-situ reflection high energy electron diffraction(RHEED) monitoring and ex-situ X-ray diffraction(XRD) measurement. Crystalline quality is improved and surface becomes flatter with increasing growth temperature, with a best full width at half maximum(FWHM) of XRD ω-rocking curve of( 2ˉ01) plane and root mean square(RMS) roughness of 0.68° and 2.04 nm for the sample grown at 730 °C,respectively. | 5 | Refocusing of the optical branched flow on a rough curved surface显示文摘The phenomenon of branched flow has attracted researchers since its inception,with recent observations of the light branching on soap bubbles.However,previous studies have primarily focused on the flat spacetime,overlooking the effect of surface curvature on branched flows.In this paper,we explore the branched flow phenomenon of light on a rough curved surface called constant Gaussian curvature surfaces(CGCSs).Compared with flat space,a CGCS demonstrates that the first branching point advances due to the focusing effect of the positive curvature of the surface.Furthermore,unlike on flat space,optical branches on curved surfaces do not consistently become chaotic during its transmission in a random potential field.On the contrary,the“entropy”decreases at specific positions,which reveals a sink flow phenomenon following the generation of branched flows.This result highlights the time inversion characteristics of CGCSs.Lastly,we demonstrated that the anomalous entropy reduction is related to the transverse and longitudinal coherence transformations of light.We suppose these efforts would fuel further investigation of the thermodynamic evolution and spatiotemporal inversion of random caustics,as well as their future application in the information transmission of random potentials in curved spacetime. | WEIFENG DING ZHAOYING WANG CHAOKAI YANG | 2023 | Photonics Research2023,11,12: | 0 |
| 6 | Mechanical properties,thermal conductivity and defect formation energies of samarium immobilization in Gd_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7):First-principles study and irradiation experiment显示文摘A density functional theory(DFT)study was employed to investigate the mechanical property,thermal conductivity,Debye temperature,electronic structure and defect chemistry of(Gd_(1-x)Sm_(x))_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7).All the(Gd_(1-x)Sm_(x))_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) compounds exhibit an excellent structural and mechanical stability(Gd_(0.25)Sm_(0.75))_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) has the lowest Young’s modulus of 213.7 GPa,the largest Possion’s ratio of 0.292,the lowest Debye temperature of 491.8 K and the lowest thermal conductivity.The calculated thermal conductivities of(Gd_(1-x)Sm_(x))_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) are 1.17-1.21 W/(m·K)by the Clark’s model and 1.32-1.36 W/(m·K)by the Cahall’s model,respectively.The formation energies of O vacancies at 48f site are negative,which increase with the Sm content,however,the formation energies of O vacancies at 8b site are almost invariable.In addition,Sm partly occupying the Gd-site reduces distinctly the formation energies of defects such as A-site vacancies,cation antisite defects,anion Frenkel pairs of oxygen at 8b site and cation interstitials,which suggests that Sm-doped Gd_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7),especially equimolar GdSmZr_(2)O_(7),has a better irradiation tolerance.After the 16 MeVTa-ion irradiation at a fluence of 1×10^(14) or 2×10^(14) ions/cm^(2),the crystal structure of GdSmZr_(2)O_(7) transforms from pyrochlore to a defect fluorite without obvious amorphous phase. | Yuhao Wang Jiahu Ouyang Tao Wei Gui Cao Zhanguo Liu Zhaoying Ding Yujin Wang Yaming Wang | 2023 | Journal of Rare Earths2023,41,3: | 0 |
| 7 | AIFM1 variants associated with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder cause apoptosis due to impaired apoptosis-inducing factor dimerization显示文摘Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder(ANSD)represents a variety of sensorineural deafness conditions characterized by abnormal inner hair cells and/or auditory nerve function,but with the preservation of outer hair cell function.ANSD represents up to 15%of individuals with hearing impairments.Through mutation screening,bioinformatic analysis and expression studies,we have previously identified several apoptosis-inducing factor(AIF)mitochondria-associated 1(AIFM1)variants in ANSD families and in some other sporadic cases.Here,to elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms underlying each AIFM1 variant,we generated AIF-null cells using the clustered regularly interspersed short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9(Cas9)system and constructed AIF-wild type(WT)and AIF-mutant(mut)(p.T260A,p.R422W,and p.R451Q)stable transfection cell lines.We then analyzed AIF structure,coenzyme-binding affinity,apoptosis,and other aspects.Results revealed that these variants resulted in impaired dimerization,compromising AIF function.The reduction reaction of AIF variants had proceeded slower than that of AIF-WT.The average levels of AIF dimerization in AIF variant cells were only 34.5%-49.7%of that of AIF-WT cells,resulting in caspase-independent apoptosis.The average percentage of apoptotic cells in the variants was 12.3%-17.9%,which was significantly higher than that(6.9%-7.4%)in controls.However,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NADH)treatment promoted the reduction of apoptosis by rescuing AIF dimerization in AIF variant cells.Our findings show that the impairment of AIF dimerization by AIFM1 variants causes apoptosis contributing to ANSD,and introduce NADH as a potential drug for ANSD treatment.Our results help elucidate the mechanisms of ANSD and may lead to the provision of novel therapies. | YUE QIU HONGYANG WANG HUAYE PAN JING GUAN LEI YAN MINGJIE FAN HUI ZHOU XUANHAO ZHOU KAIWEN WU ZEXIAO JIA QIANQIAN ZHUANG ZHAOYING LEI MENGYAO LI XUE DING AIFU LIN YONG FU DONG ZHANG QIUJU WANG QINGFENG YAN | 2023 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2023,24,2: | 0 |
