1Folate receptor-mediated boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles as potential delivery vehicles for boron neutron capture therapy of nonfunctional pituitary adenomas显示文摘Invasive nonfunctional pituitary adenomas(NFPAs) are difficult to completely resect and often develop tumor recurrence after initial surgery.Currently,no medications are clinically effective in the control of NFPA.Although radiation therapy and radiosurgery are useful to prevent tumor regrowth,they are frequently withheld because of severe complications.Boron neutron capture therapy(BNCT) is a binary radiotherapy that selectively and maximally damages tumor cells without harming the surrounding normal tissue.Folate receptor(FR)-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles is a novel boron delivery agent that can be selectively taken up by FR-expressing cells via FR-mediated endocytosis.In this study,FR-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles were selectively taken up by NFPAs cells expressing FR but not other types of non-FR expressing pituitary adenomas.After incubation with boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles and following irradiation with thermal neutrons,the cell viability of NFPAs was significantly decreased,while apoptotic cells were simultaneously increased.However,cells administered the same dose of FR-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles without neutron irradiation or received the same neutron irradiation alone did not show significant decrease in cell viability or increase in apoptotic cells.The expression of Bcl-2 was down-regulated and the expression of Bax was up-regulated in NFPAs after treatment with FR-mediated BNCT.In conclusion,FR-targeted boron-10 containing carbon nanoparticles may be an ideal delivery system of boron to NFPAs cells for BNCT.Furthermore,our study also provides a novel insight into therapeutic strategies for invasive NFPA refractory to conventional therapy,while exploring these new applications of BNCT for tumors,especially benign tumors.DAI CongXin CAI Feng HWANG Kuo Chu ZHOU YongMao ZHANG ZiZhu LIU XiaoHai MA SiHai YANG YaKun YAO Yong FENG Ming BAO XinJie LI GuiLin WEI JunJi JIAO YongHui WEI ZhenQing MA WenBin WANG RenZhi 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,2:8
2Pollen flux and vertical dispersion in coniferous and deciduous broadleaved mixed forest in the Changbai Mountains显示文摘The pollen flux in coniferous and deciduous broadleaved mixed forest in the Changbai Mountains is presented in one year's experiments. The results indicate that arboreal pollen percentages are more than 65% and pollen flux is higher than 5000 grain·cm-2·a-1,while less than 2% and lower than 1000 grain·cm-2·a-1 for shrubby pollen,and less than 20% and lower than 3000 grain·cm-1·a-1 for herbaceous pollen for most samples at different heights. The pollen assemblages are similar to those in the samples under 8 m height where Pinus and Ouercus are dominant and followed by the few non-local pollen types,and Fraxinus percentages are high with a few non-local pollen types at 16 m to 32 m height as well as non-local pollen clearly increased at 40 m height. 3Nucleoprotein-based indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(indirect ELISA) for detecting antibodies specific to Ebola virus and Marbug virus显示文摘Full-length nucleoproteins from Ebola and Marburg viruses were expressed as His-tagged recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli and nucleoprotein-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISAs) were established for the detection of antibodies specific to Ebola and Marburg viruses. The ELISAs were evaluated by testing antisera collected from rabbit immunized with Ebola and Marburg virus nucleoproteins. Although little cross-reactivity of antibodies was observed in antiEbola virus nucleoprotein rabbit antisera, the highest reactions to immunoglobulin G(Ig G) were uniformly detected against the nucleoprotein antigens of homologous viruses. We further evaluated the ELISA's ability to detect antibodies to Ebola and Marburg viruses using human sera samples collected from individuals passing through the Guangdong port of entry. With a threshold set at the mean plus three standard deviations of average optical densities of sera tested, the ELISA systems using these two recombinant nucleoproteins have good sensitivity and specificity. 4Environmental magnetic comparisons between distal and proximal sediments of Huangqihai Lake,Inner Mongolia,China显示文摘Spatial variations in lake sediments are a product of their depositional heterogeneities.To better correlate synchronous strata in Huangqihai Lake,two sections were excavated from the lake-center and the lake-shore.The study involved detailed lithology,mineralogy,and rock magnetic analysis.The results show that the frequency-dependent susceptibility,which is related to the content of super-paramagnetic minerals,is relatively easy to contrast between the two sections.However,mass susceptibility and saturation isothermal remanence,which are related to the content of total magnetic minerals,are difficult to contrast.A possible reason for this difference is that small-particle super-paramagnetic minerals are formed mainly during pedogenic processes,which correlates well with climate change and avoids the effects of local factors when corrections are made at the whole-lake scale.Both sections can be divided into three stages,which appear to be well correlated with previous results obtained through other environmental proxies.DONG Jin WANG Yong ZHANG ShiHong CHI ZhenQing YAO PeiYi ZHAO ZhiLi 2012Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,9:4
5A viral vector expressing hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha inhibits hippocampal neuronal apoptosis显示文摘Hypoxia-inducible factor 1(HIF-1) attenuates amyloid-beta protein neurotoxicity and decreases apoptosis induced by oxidative stress or hypoxia in cortical neurons. In this study, we constructed a recombinant adeno-associated virus(rAAV) vector expressing the human HIF-1α gene(rAAV-HIF-1α), and tested the assumption that rAAV-HIF-1α represses hippocampal neuronal apoptosis induced by amyloid-beta protein. Our results confirmed that rAAV-HIF-1α significantly reduces apoptosis induced by amyloid-beta protein in primary cultured hippocampal neurons. Direct intracerebral rAAV-HIF-1α administration also induced robust and prolonged HIF-1α production in rat hippocampus. Single rAAV-HIF-1α administration resulted in decreased apoptosis of hippocampal neurons in an Alzheimer's disease rat model established by intracerebroventricular injection of aggregated amyloid-beta protein(25–35). 6Mineralogy and Chemistry of Sulfides from the Longqi and Duanqiao Hydrothermal Fields in the Southwest Indian Ridge显示文摘Recent investigations found that hydrothermal activity and sulfide mineralization occurs along the Southwest Indian Ridge(SWIR). The Longqi and Duanqiao hydrothermal fields between 49° E and 53° E of the SWIR are two prospective mineralization areas discovered by Chinese scientists. With the aim to determine the mineralogical and chemical characteristics of sulfide minerals, we have conducted detailed studies for samples from the two areas using an optical microscope, X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope, and electron microprobe. The mineralization processes in the Longqi area are divided into three main stages:(1) the low-medium-temperature stage: colloform pyrite(Py I) + marcasite → euhedral pyrite(Py II),(2) the high-temperature stage: isocubanite(±exsolved chalcopyrite) + pyrrhotite → coarse-grained chalcopyrite(Ccp I), and(3) the medium–low-temperature stage: sphalerite + fine-grained chalcopyrite inclusions(Ccp II) → aggregates of anhedral pyrite(Py III) ± marcasite → Fe-oxide(-hydroxide) + amorphous silica. The mineralization processes in the Duanqiao area are divided into two main stages:(1) the medium–high-temperature stage: subhedral and euhedral pyrite(Py I′) → coarse-grained chalcopyrite(Ccp I′) and(2) the medium–low-temperature stage: sphalerite → fine-grained chalcopyrite(Ccp II′) + chalcopyrite inclusions(Ccp II′) → silica-cemented pyrite(Py II′) + marcasite → Fe-oxide + amorphous silica. We suggest that the fine-grained chalcopyrite inclusions in sphalerite from Longqi and Duanqiao were formed by co-precipitation and replacement mechanisms, respectively. Primary sphalerites from both fields are enriched in Fe(avg. 5.84 wt% for the Longqi field vs. avg. 3.69 wt% for the Duanqiao field), Co(avg. 185.56 ppm for the Longqi field vs. 160.53 ppm for the Duanqiao field), and Cd(avg. 1950 ppm for the Longqi field vs. avg. 525.26 ppm for the Duanqiao field). Cu contents in pyrite from the Duanqiao field(Py I′: avg. 849.23 ppm and Py II′: avg. 1191.11 ppm) tend to be higher than those from the Longqi field(Py I: avg. 26.67 ppm, Py II: avg. 445 ppm, and Py III: avg. 179.29 ppm). Chalcopyrite from both fields is enriched in Zn(Ccp I: avg. 3226.67 ppm, Ccp II: avg. 9280 ppm, Ccp I′: avg. 848 ppm, Ccp II′(inclusions): avg. 1098 ppm, and Ccp II′(fine-grained): avg. 1795 ppm). The varying contents of Zn in the different pyrite and chalcopyrite generations may result from the zone refining process. 7Relationship between increase rate of human plague in China and global climate index as revealed by cross-spectral and cross-wavelet analyses显示文摘Plague has caused the death of hundreds of millions of people throughout the human history.Today this disease is again re-emerging and hence is again becoming an increasing threat to human health in several parts of the world.However,impacts of global climate variation(e.g.El Nino and Southern Oscillation[ENSO])and global warming on plagues are largely unknown.Using cross-spectral analysis and cross-wavelet analysis,we have analyzed the relationship between increase rate of human plague in China during 1871–2003 and the following climate factors(as measured by the Southern Oscillation Index[SOI],Sea Surface Temperature of east Pacific equator[SST]and air Temperature of the Northern Hemisphere[NHT]).We found in the frequency domain that increase rate of human plague was closely associated with SOI and SST.Cross-spectral analysis reveals that significant coherencies between increase rate of human plague and ENSO were found over short periods(2–3 years),medium periods(6–7 years)and long periods(11–12 years,30–40 years).Cross-wavelet analysis reveals that increase rate of human plague oscillates in phase with SOI,but in anti-phase with SST over periods of 2–4 years and approximately 8 years(6–10 years).These results indicate that ENSO-driven climate variation may be important for occurrences of human plague in China.However,there is a need for a further analysis of the underlying mechanism between human plague in China and ENSO.Zhibin ZHANG Zhenqing LI Yi TAO Min CHEN Xinyu WEN Lei XU Huidong TIAN Nils Chr.STENSETH 2007Integrative Zoology2007,2,3:3
8Thiocyanate-induced labilization of schwertmannite: Impacts and mechanisms显示文摘Schwertmannite is an amorphous iron(III)-oxyhydroxysulfate that forms in acid mine drainage(AMD) environments. The characteristic of high heavy metal adsorption capability makes schwertmannite a potentially useful, environmentally friendly material in wastewater treatment. Unstable schwertmannite is prone to recrystallization.Understanding the mechanisms that induce schwertmannite labilization and affect its capacity to remove heavy metals are of great environmental and geochemical significance.Thiocyanate(SCNˉ) is a hazardous pseudohalide that is also normally found in AMD.However, little is known about the impact of Fe(III)-binding ligand SCNˉ on schwertmannite stability and its subsequent capacity to bind trace elements. Here, we investigated the adsorption of SCNˉ on schwertmannite and subsequent mineral transformation to characterize this little-known process. The appearance of Fe2+indicated that the interactions between schwertmannite and SCNˉ may involve complexation and reduction reactions. Results showed that the majority of the adsorbed-SCNˉ was immobilized on schwertmannite during the 60-days transformation. The transformation rates of schwertmannite increased with increasing concentrations of SCNˉ. Goethite was detected as the dominant transformation product with or without SCNˉ. The mechanisms of SCNˉ-promoted dissolution of schwertmannite can be described as follows:(1) formation of Fe(III)–NCS complexes on the schwertmannite surface and in solution, a process which increases the reactivity of solid phase Fe(III);(2) the extraction of Fe(III) from schwertmannite by SCNˉ and subsequent schwertmannite dissolution; and(3) the formation of secondary minerals from extracted Fe(III). 9Using SELDI-TOF-MS technology for screening serum markers of hepatic carcinoma in rats显示文摘Objective:To identify potential serum markers of hepatic carcinoma in rats through Surface-Enhanced Laser Desorption Ioniza- tion-Time of Flight-Mass Spectrometry(SELDI-TOF-MS)Technology.Methods:A rat model of hepatic carcinoma was established. 10Tumor Microenvironment Cascade‑Responsive Nanodrug with Self‑Targeting Activation and ROS Regeneration for Synergistic Oxidation‑Chemotherapy显示文摘Carrier-free nanodrug with exceptionally high drug payload has attracted increasing attentions.Herein,we construct a pH/ROS cascade-responsive nanodrug which could achieve tumor acidity-triggered targeting activation followed by circularly amplified ROS-triggered drug release via positive-feedback loop.The di-selenide-bridged prodrug synthesized from vitamin E succinate and methotrexate(MTX)self-assembles into nanoparticles(VSeM);decorating acidity-cleavable PEG onto VSeM surface temporarily shields the targeting ability of MTX to evade immune clearance and consequently elongate circulation time.Upon reaching tumor sites,acidity-triggered detachment of PEG results in targeting recovery to enhance tumor cell uptake.Afterward,the VSeM could be dissociated in response to intracellular ROS to trigger VES/MTX release;then the released VES could produce extra ROS to accelerate the collapse of VSeM.Finally,the excessive ROS produced from VES could synergize with the released MTX to efficiently suppress tumor growth via orchestrated oxidation-chemotherapy.Our study provides a novel strategy to engineer cascade-responsive nanodrug for synergistic cancer treatment.Yang Li Jinyan Lin Peiyuan Wang Qiang Luo Fukai Zhu Yun Zhang Zhenqing Hou Xiaolong Liu Jingfeng Liu 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,12:2

14Hydrogel-elastomer-based stretchable strain sensor fabricated by a simple projection lithography method显示文摘Stretchable strain sensor detects a wide range of strain variation and is therefore a key component in various applications.Unlike traditional ones made of elastomers doped with conductive components or fabricated with liquid conductors,ionically conductive hydrogel-based strain sensors remain conductive under large deformations and are biocompatible.However,dehydration is a challenging issue for the latter.Researchers have developed hydrogel-elastomer-based strain sensors where an elastomer matrix encapsulates a hydrogel circuit to prevent its dehydration.However,the reported multistep approaches are generally time-consuming.Our group recently reported a multimaterial 3D printing approach that enables fast fabrication of such sensors,yet requires a self-built digital-light-processing-based multimaterial 3D printer.Here,we report a simple projection lithography method to fabricate hydrogel-elastomer-based stretchable strain sensors within 5 minutes.This method only requires a UV projector/lamp with photomasks;the chemicals are commercially available;the protocols for preparing the polymer precursors are friendly to users without chemistry background.Moreover,the manufacturing flexibility allows users to readily pattern the sensor circuit and attach the sensor to a 3D printed soft pneumatic actuator to enable strain sensing on the latter.The proposed approach paves a simple and versatile way to fabricate hydrogel-elastomer-based stretchable strain sensors and flexible electronic devices.Zhenqing Li Xiangnan He Jianxiang Cheng Honggeng Li Yuan-Fang Zhang Xiaojuan Shi Kai Yu Hui Ying Yang Qi Ge 2021International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials2021,12,3:1

18Propagation of Iamb waves in adhesively bonded multilayered media显示文摘The effect of introducing attenuation on Lamb wave dispersion curves is studied in this paper. Attenuation is introduced to a three-layered composite plate by an adhesive bond layer with viscous behavior. No changes are required to the transfer matrix formulation for the propagation of elastic waves. By introduction of a complex wavenumber, the model can be used to the propagation of attenuative Lamb waves.
