| 1 | Biodegradation and origin of oil sands in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin显示文摘The oil sands deposits in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) comprise of at least 85% of the total immobile bitumen in place in the world and are so concentrated as to be virtually the only such deposits that are economically recoverable for conversion to oil. The major deposits are in three geographic and geologic regions of Alberta: Athabasca, Cold Lake and Peace River. The bitumen reserves have oil gravities ranging from 8 to 12° API, and are hosted in the reservoirs of varying age, ranging from Devonian (Grosmont Formation) to Early Cretaceous (Mannville Group). They were derived from light oils in the southern Alberta and migrated to the north and east for over 100 km during the Laramide Orogeny, which was responsible for the uplift of the Rocky Mountains. Biodegradation is the only process that transforms light oil into bitumen in such a dramatic way that overshadowed other alterations with minor contributions. The levels of biodegradation in the basin increasing from west (non-biodegraded) to east (extremely biodegraded) can be attributed to decreasing reservoir temperature, which played the primary role in controlling the biodegradation regime. Once the reservoir was heated to approximately 80 °C, it was pasteurized and no biodegradation would further occur. However, reservoir temperature could not alone predict the variations of the oil composition and physical properties. Compositional gradients and a wide range of biodegradation degree at single reservoir column indicate that the water-leg size or the volume ratio of oil to water is one of the critical local controls for the vertical variations of biodegradation degree and oil physical properties. Late charging and mixing of the fresh and degraded oils ultimately dictate the final distribution of compositions and physical properties found in the heavy oil and oil sand fields. | 2 | A thermosensitive gel formulation of an empirical traditional Chinese prescription for treating cervical erosion显示文摘Cervical eropion,a pathological change associated with chronic cervicitis,is a common condition that is difficult to cure.M any pa tients particularly those with mild or medium infection and those preparing for pregnancy require a simple but effective medication.In this study,extracts of an empirical herbal prescription composed of six Chinese traditional drugs viz Cortex Phellodendri,Rhizoma Coptidis,Olibanum,Myrrha,borneol and catechu were formulated to facilitate intravaginal administration and improve efficacy.An extract of the first four components was formulated with borneol as a thermosensitive gel(TG)while an extract of catechu used to prepare a regular gel(CG)because of a chemical incompatibility.The optimized TG was prepared using poloxamer 407 and poloxamer 188.The CG was prepared using glycerin,carbopol and triethanolamine.The gels were characterized in vitro in terms of release of berberine(TG)and total catechins(CG)and in vivo in a rat model of cervical erosion.Trea tment by once daily application of the TG for 7 days followed by once daily application of the CG for 3 days produced a restoration of normal tissues.Gel formulation of the empirical Chinese traditional remedy appears to provide a promising treatment for cervical erosion. | Shuqing Zhou Xiaoling Zheng Caihong Zheng Fan Qu Xuefen Cai Juanhua Xu | 2012 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,5: | 6 |
| 3 | Fragment Propagation and Colonization Ability Enhanced and Varied at Node Level after Escaping from Apical Dominance in Submerged Macrophytes显示文摘Aquatic plants develop strong fragment propagation and colonization ability to endure the natural disturbances. However,detailed research of ability to endure the natural disturbances has been lacking to date. Therefore,reproduction(shoot) and colonization(root) of shoot fragments of Potamogeton crispus L. with or without apices were investigated for the effect of apical dominance,and the growth of decapitated shoot fragments at three lengths(2,4,6 cm) was compared. Meanwhile,fragment propagation at levels of bud position was studied for bud position effect after escaping from apical dominance. The results showed significant increases occurred in the outgrowth of lateral branches on fragments decapitated compared with the fragments with apices,implying that apical dominance exists. Different lengths of fragments showed little difference in biomass allocations,but significant differences were noted in their propagation. Meanwhile,the effect of bud position was verified,due to the significant difference of average reproduction per node among the three length groups. | 5 | Biomechanical analysis of the computer-assisted internal fixation of a femoral neck fracture显示文摘The number and spatial configuration of the screws will affect the stability and prognosis of the fractures.In our study,we assessed the biomechanical effects of the double-head cannulated compression screw(DhCCS)and ordinary cannulated compression screw(OCCS)for the treatment of femoral neck fractures by using computer finite element analysis.The original digital imaging and communications in medicine(DICOM)data of a proximal femur were imported into Materialise’s interactive medical image control system(MIMICS)software for modeling.Both DhCCS and OCCS 3D-models were obtained by using the 3D scan technique.Using the fracture model and internal fixation assembly model with an inverted triangle,two horizontal and vertical distribution were established in UG software.Next,the displacement and stress distribution were calculated in ANSYS software.The displacement value of the femoral head in the DhCCS group was smaller than that in the OCCS group,and the displacement value in the two horizontal groups was smaller than that in the vertical group.The stress distribution in the DhCCS group was concentrated on the screw rod at the fracture block and thread end,while only at the fracture block in the OCCS group.The stress in the horizontal group was more dispersed on the screws than that in the vertical group.DhCCS has reliable stability for the fixation of femoral neck fractures and applied in the clinical work and 2 horizontal fixation can be used when two screws are selected. | Hui Lu Hongquan Shen Shuqing Zhou Weidong Ni Dianming Jiang | 2020 | Genes & Diseases2020,7,3: | 3 |

| 9 | Methylesterification of cell-wall pectin controls the diurnal flower-opening times in rice显示文摘Flowers are the core reproductive organ of plants, and flowering is essential for cross-pollination. Diurnal flower-opening time is thus a key trait influencing reproductive isolation, hybrid breeding, and thermostability in plants. However, the molecular mechanisms controlling this trait remain unknown. Here, we report that rice Diurnal Flower Opening Time 1 (DFOT1) modulates pectin methylesterase (PME) activity to regulate pectin methylesterification levels of the lodicule cell walls, which affect lodicule swelling to control diurnal flower-opening time. DFOT1 is specifically expressed in the lodicules, and its expression gradually increases with the approach to flowering but decreases with flowering. Importantly, a knockout of DFOT1 showed earlier diurnal flower opening. We demonstrate that DFOT1 interacts directly with multiple PMEs to promote their activity. Knockout of PME40 also resulted in early diurnal flower opening, whereas overexpression of PME42 delayed diurnal flower opening. Lower PME activity was observed to be associated with higher levels of pectin methylesterification and the softening of cell walls in lodicules, which contribute to the absorption of water by lodicules and cause them to swell, thus promoting early diurnal flower opening. Higher PME activity had the opposite effect. | 10 | A ubiquitous knowledgeable data representation model(UKRM) for three-dimensional geographic information systems(3D GIS)显示文摘In the face of complicated, diversified three-dimensional world, the existing 3D GIS data models suffer from certain issues such as data incompatibility, insufficiency in data representation and representation types, among others. It is often hard to meet the requirements of multiple application purposes(users) related to GIS spatial data management and data query and analysis, especially in the case of massive spatial objects. In this study, according to the habits of human thinking and recognition, discrete expressions(such as discrete curved surface(DCS), and discrete body(DB)) were integrated and two novel representation types(including function structure and mapping structure) were put forward. A flexible and extensible ubiquitous knowledgeable data representation model(UKRM) was then constructed, in which structurally heterogeneous multiple expressions(including boundary representation(B-rep), constructive solid geometry(CSG), functional/parameter representation, etc.) were normalized. GIS's ability in representing the massive, complicated and diversified 3D world was thus greatly enhanced. In addition, data reuse was realized, and the bridge linking static GIS to dynamic GIS was built up. | 11 | TSNAdb: A Database for Tumor-specific Neoantigens from Immunogenomics Data Analysis显示文摘Tumor-specific neoantigens have attracted much attention since they can be used as biomarkers to predict therapeutic effects of immune checkpoint blockade therapy and as potential targets for cancer immunotherapy. In this study, we developed a comprehensive tumor-specific neoantigen database(TSNAdb v1.0), based on pan-cancer immunogenomic analyses of somatic mutation data and human leukocyte antigen(HLA) allele information for 16 tumor types with 7748 tumor samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and The Cancer Immunome Atlas(TCIA). We predicted binding affinities between mutant/wild-type peptides and HLA class I molecules by NetMHCpan v2.8/v4.0, and presented detailed information of 3,707,562/1,146,961 potential neoantigens generated by somatic mutations of all tumor samples.
