| 2 | Characterization of dissolved organic matter in urban sewage using excitation emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy and parallel factor analysis显示文摘Wastewater dissolved organic matter (DOM) from different processing stages of a sewage treatment plant in Xiamen was characterized using fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy. Parallel factor analysis modeling of excitation-emission matrix spectra revealed five fluorescent components occurring in sewage DOM: one protein-like (C1), three humic-like (C2, C4 and C5) and one xenobiotic-like (C3) components. During the aerated grit chamber and primary sedimentation tank stage, there was only a slight decrease in fluorescence intensity and the absorption coefficient at 350 nm (a 350 ). During the second aeration stage, high concentration of protein-like and short-wavelength-excited humic-like components were significantly degraded accompanied by significant loss of DOC (80%) and a 350 (30%), indicating that C1 and C2 were the dominant constituents of sewage DOM. As a result, long-wavelength-excited C4 and C5 became the dominant humic-like components and the DOM molecular size inferred from the variation of spectral slope S (300-650 nm) and specific absorption (a 280 /DOC) increased. | 3 | Hydroxysafflor yellow A improves learning and memory in a rat model of vascular dementia by increasing VEGF and NR1 in the hippocampus显示文摘Hydroxysafflor yellow A(HSYA) has angiogenesisregulating and neuro-protective effects, but its effects on vascular dementia(VaD) are unknown. In this study, 30 adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated to five groups: normal, sham-operation, VaD alone(bilateral carotid artery occlusion), VaD plus saline(control), and VaD plus HSYA. One week after operation, the HSYA group received one daily tail-vein injection of 0.6 mg/100 g HSYA for two weeks. Five weeks after operation, the spatial memory of all five groups was evaluated by the water maze task, and synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus was assessed by the long-term potentiation(LTP) method. Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and N-methyl-Daspartic acid receptor 1(NR1) expression in the hippocampus was detected via Western blot. We found that, compared with the group with VaD alone, the group with HSYA had a reduced escape latency in the water maze(P <0.05), and the LTP at CA3-CA1 synapses in the hippocampus was enhanced(P <0.05). Western blot in the late-phase VaD group showed slight up-regulation of VEGF and downregulation of NR1 in the hippocampus, while HSYA significantly up-regulated both VEGF and NR1. | 5 | Relation between electricity structure of the crust and deformation of crustal blocks on the northeastern margin of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘Study on the electricity structure along a magnetotelluric (MT) sounding profile on the northeastern margin of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau indicates that four crustal blocks can be de-termined from southwest to northeast, namely Bayan Har block (BH), Qin-Qi block (QQ), Hai-yuan block (HY) or the North-South seismotectonic belt and Ordos block (OD). The BH, QQ and OD blocks display a similar electricity structure of the crust. The upper crust represents a high- resistivity layer and the upper part of lower crust represents a low-resistivity layer with the resis-tivity increasing gradually with depth from the lower part of lower crust to the upper mantle. The electricity structure of the crust in these three blocks is similar to that in the complete blocks on the southern and eastern margins of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and belongs to normal electricity layering of the crust in slightly deformed or complete intracontinental blocks. The crust in HY block as a boundary zone has been significantly deformed, hence its electricity layering was de-stroyed and the structure was complex and the block became a recent tectonically active and great seismo-active region. The contact belts between the blocks on the northeastern margin of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau exhibit both upthrusting outward and strike-slip movement different from those on the southern and eastern margins of the plateau. | 6 | High-resolution records of Holocene from the Shuangchi Maar Lake in Hainan Island显示文摘The results of sedimentary characteristics, grain-size, clay mineral, C/N and pollen analysis reveal the evolution history of the Shuangchi Maar Lake of Hainan Island as well as the short-term climate variations in tropical areas. It is testified that the Maar sediment system was sensitive in recording the rapid climate changes in the Holocene. These multidisciplinary results demonstrate that the thermal maximum in the Holocene climate lasted from 7200 to 2700 aBP, with several abrupt ephemeral vibrations occurring between 7250-6120 aBP and at around 4460, 3850 and 2700 aBP. In the late Holocene, particularly at ~2700 aBP, a distinct environmental change indicating an important climate transition in the tropical eastern Asia was recorded, probably responding to the enhancement of ENSO phenomena in the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a new method to accelerate the discovery and design of new materials. In recent years, material discovery and design methods using machine learning have attracted much attention from material experts and have made some progress. This review first outlines available materials database and material data analytics tools and then elaborates on the machine learning algorithms used in materials science. Next, the field of application of machine learning in materials science is summarized, focusing on the aspects of structure determination, performance prediction, fingerprint prediction, and new material discovery. Finally, the review points out the problems of data and machine learning in materials science and points to future research. | 13 | Design of sandwich-structured ZnO/ZnS/Au photoanode for enhanced efficiency of photoelectrochemical wate splitting显示文摘We developed and demonstrated a ZnO/ZnS/Au composite photoanode with significantly enhanced photoelectrochemical water-splitting performance, con- taining a ZnS interlayer and Au nanoparticles. The solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of this ZnO/ZnS/Au heterostructure reached 0.21%, 3.5 times that of pristine ZnO. The comparison of the incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE) and the photoresponse in the white and visible light regions further verified that the enhancement resulted from contributions of both UV and visible light. The modification of the Au NPs was shown to improve the photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance to both UV and visible light, as modification encouraged effective surface passivation and surface-plasmon- resonance effects. The ZnS interlayer favored the movement of photogenerated electrons under UV light and hot electrons under visible light, causing their injection into ZnO; this simultaneously suppressed the electron-hole recombination at the photoanode-electrolyte interface. | 14 | Efficient manipulations of circularly polarized terahertz waves with transmissive metasurfaces显示文摘The unrestricted control of circularly polarized(CP)terahertz(THz)waves is important in science and applications,but conventional THz devices suffer from issues of bulky size and low efficiency.Although Pancharatnam-Berry(PB)metasurfaces have shown strong capabilities to control CP waves,transmission-mode PB devices realized in the THz regime are less efficient,limiting their applications in practice.Here,based on Jones matrix analysis,we design a trilayer structure(thickness of ~λ/5)and experimentally demonstrate that the structure can serve as a highly efficient transmissive meta-atom(relative efficiency of ~90%)to build PB metadevices for manipulating CP THz waves.Two ultrathin THz metadevices are fabricated and experimentally characterized with a z-scan THz imaging system.The first device can realize a photonic spin Hall effect with an experimentally demonstrated relative efficiency of ~90%,whereas the second device can generate a high-quality background-free CP Bessel beam with measured longitudinal and transverse field patterns that exhibit the nondiffracting characteristics of a Bessel beam.All the experimental results are in excellent agreement with full-wave simulations.Our results pave the way to freely manipulate CP THz beams,laying a solid basis for future applications such as biomolecular control and THz signal transportation. | Min Jia Zhuo Wang Heting Li Xinke Wang Weijie Luo Shulin Sun Yan Zhang Qiong He Lei Zhou | 2019 | Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1: | 9 |
| 15 | Large-conductance Ca^2+-activated K^+ channel involvement in suppression of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury after electroacupuncture at Shuigou(GV26) acupoint in rats显示文摘Excess activation and expression of large-conductance Ca^(2+)-activated K^+ channels(BKCa channels) may be an important mechanism for delayed neuronal death after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Electroacupuncture can regulate BKCa channels after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, but the precise mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we established a rat model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Model rats received electroacupuncture of 1 m A and 2 Hz at Shuigou(GV26) for 10 minutes, once every 12 hours for a total of six times in 72 hours. We found that in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury rats, ischemic changes in the cerebral cortex were mitigated after electroacupuncture. Moreover, BKCa channel protein and m RNA expression were reduced in the cerebral cortex and neurological function noticeably improved. These changes did not occur after electroacupuncture at a non-acupoint(5 mm lateral to the left side of Shuigou). Thus, our findings indicate that electroacupuncture at Shuigou improves neurological function in rats following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, and may be associated with down-regulation of BKCa channel protein and m RNA expression. | 18 | Reduning injection for fever, rash, and ulcers in children with mild hand, foot, and mouth disease: a randomized controlled clinical study显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of Reduning injection for fever, rash, and ulcers in children with mild hand, foot, and mouth disease(HFMD). METHODS: A stratified-block randomized, double-blind, parallel-controlled, and multicenter clinical trial was conducted with 360 patients in five hospitals across China: Quanzhou Children's Hospital, Shijiazhuang No. 5 Hospital, Shanghai Public Health Centre, Hunan Provincial Children's Hospital, and Kaifeng Children's Hospital. Patients were randomized into three groups with 120 in each. Group A was treated with Western Medicine, group B with Reduning injection, a Chinese herbal medicine, and group C with both Reduning injection and Western Medicine. Results were compared for treatment efficacy and safety on HFMD. The clinical outcomes were observed as follows: fever and onset time of antifebrile effect(time to bring the body temperature down ≥0.5℃ after medication); cumulative time for fever recovery(body temperature recovering to normal and lasting more than 24 h without medication); cumulative time for rash disappearance(without new rashes or ulcers appearing and the original ones fading away); and cumulative time for mouth ulcer disappearance. RESULTS: For the onset time of the antifebrile effect, there was no statistical difference between groups A and B(P>0.05) and groups B and C(P> 0.05). However, there was a statistical difference between groups A and C(P<0.05), and the effect in group C was the best. For the cumulative time for rash disappearance, there was no statistical difference between groups A and B(P>0.05). There were statistical differences between groups A and C, and groups B and C(P<0.05), and the effect in group C was the best. For the cumulative time for mouth ulcers disappearance, there were no statistical differences among the three groups(P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Reduning injection with Western Medicine for symptomatic treatment is most effective for mild HFMD. | 20 | Construct hepatic analog by cell-matrix controlled assembly technology显示文摘A mixture of hepatic cells and chito- san/gelatin solution was deposited to construct a hepatic analog by way of layer-by-layer deposition technique using a home-made devise. The size and cell concentration of the analogs can be controlled freely. Approximately 90% of the hepatic cells re- mained viable under 0.2 Mpa extrusion pressure. Cultured in vitro 8 weeks before animal test, hepatic cells in structure maintained their phenotype and kept proliferating, and albumin and other secretion of the cells increased. Cords and hepaton-like structures were observed after culture for 20 d. These results indicate that hepatic cells could be assembled di- rectly into a 3D viable structure and expanded to form a hepatic organoid.
