1Influence of mesoscale eddies on primary production in the South China Sea during spring inter-monsoon period显示文摘Mesoscale eddies have been suggested to have an impact on biological carbon fixation in the South China Sea(SCS). However, their overall contribution to primary production during the spring inter-monsoon period is still unknown. Based on large-scale biological and environmental in situ observations and synchronous remote sensing data, the distribution patterns of phytoplankton biomass and the primary production, and the role of mesoscale eddies in regulating primary production in different eddy-controlled waters were investigated. The results suggested that the surface chlorophyll a concentrations and water column integrated primary production(IPP) are significantly higher in cyclonic eddies and lower in the anticyclonic eddies as compared to that in non-eddy waters. Although eddies could affect various environmental factors, such as nutrients, temperature and light availability, nutrient supply is suggested to be the most important one through which mesoscale eddies regulated the distribution patterns of phytoplankton biomass and primary production. The estimated IPP in cyclonic and anticyclonic eddies are about 29.5% higher and 16.6% lower than the total average in the whole study area, respectively, indicating that the promotion effect of mesoscale cold eddies on the primary production was much stronger than the inhibition effect of the warm eddies per unit area. 4Enhanced low-temperature performance of slight Mn-substituted LiFePO_4/C cathode for lithium ion batteries显示文摘Low temperature performance of LiFePO4/C cathode was remarkably improved by slight Mn-substitution. Electrochemical measurements showed that about 95% of the discharge capacity of LiFe0.98Mn0.02PO4/C cathode at 20°C was obtained at 0°C, compared to 85% of that of LiFePO4/C cathode. The LiFe0.98Mn0.02PO4/C sample also presented enhanced rate performance at –20°C with the discharge capacities of 124.4 mA h/g (0.1C), 99.8 mA h/g (1C), 80.7mAh/g (2C) and 70 mA h/g (5C), respectively, while pristine LiFePO4/C only delivered capacities of 120.5 mA h/g (0.1C), 90.7 mA h/g (1C), 70.4 mA h/g (2C) and 52.2 mA h/g (5C). Cyclic voltammetry measurements demonstrated an obvious improvement of the lithium insertion-extraction process of the LiFePO4/C cathode by slight Mn-substitution. 5A novel Co(phen)_2/C catalyst for the oxygen electrode in rechargeable lithium air batteries显示文摘A novel Co(phen)2/C catalyst was prepared by coating cobalt(II) phenanthroline (phen) chelate on BP2000 carbon black and then heat treating in an inert atmosphere. The obtained Co(phen)2/C product with 1.0 wt% cobalt loading exhibits similar morphology and porosity characteristics to those of the bare BP2000. X-ray diffraction measurements demonstrate a face-centered cubic (fcc) α-Co phase embedded in the carbon support after pyrolysis. Charge/discharge tests of the lithium-oxygen cells using the prepared Co(phen)2/C catalyst show high discharge capacities of 4870 mAh g-1 (0.05 mA cm-2 ), 3353 mAh g-1 (0.1 mA cm-2 ) and 3220 mAh g 1 (0.15 mA cm-2 ), respectively. The Co(phen) 2 /C cathode exhibits reasonable reversibility with capacity retention of 1401 mAh g-1 ( 0.1 mA cm-2 ) after 10 cycles. 7Machine learning method for tight-binding Hamiltonian parameterization from ab-initio band structure显示文摘The tight-binding(TB)method is an ideal candidate for determining electronic and transport properties for a large-scale system.It describes the system as real-space Hamiltonian matrices expressed on a manageable number of parameters,leading to substantially lower computational costs than the ab-initio methods.Since the whole system is defined by the parameterization scheme,the choice of the TB parameters decides the reliability of the TB calculations.The typical empirical TB method uses the TB parameters directly from the existing parameter sets,which hardly reproduces the desired electronic structures quantitatively without specific optimizations.It is thus not suitable for quantitative studies like the transport property calculations.The ab-initio TB method derives the TB parameters from the ab-initio results through the transformation of basis functions,which achieves much higher numerical accuracy.However,it assumes prior knowledge of the basis and may encompass truncation error.Here,a machine learning method for TB Hamiltonian parameterization is proposed,within which a neural network(NN)is introduced with its neurons acting as the TB matrix elements.This method can construct the empirical TB model that reproduces the given ab-initio energy bands with predefined accuracy,which provides a fast and convenient way for TB model construction and gives insights into machine learning applications in physical problems.Zifeng Wang Shizhuo Ye Hao Wang Jin He Qijun Huang Sheng Chang 2021npj Computational Materials2021,,1:2
8Multi-objective steady-state optimization of two-chamber microbial fuel cells显示文摘A microbial fuel cell(MFC)is a novel promising technology for simultaneous renewable electricity generation and wastewater treatment.Three non-comparable objectives,i.e.power density,attainable current density and waste removal ratio,are often conflicting.A thorough understanding of the relationship among these three conflicting objectives can be greatly helpful to assist in optimal operation of MFC system.In this study,a multiobjective genetic algorithm is used to simultaneously maximizing power density,attainable current density and waste removal ratio based on a mathematical model for an acetate two-chamber MFC.Moreover,the level diagrams method is utilized to aid in graphical visualization of Pareto front and decision making.Three biobjective optimization problems and one three-objective optimization problem are thoroughly investigated.The obtained Pareto fronts illustrate the complex relationships among these three objectives,which is helpful for final decision support.Therefore,the integrated methodology of a multi-objective genetic algorithm and a graphical visualization technique provides a promising tool for the optimal operation of MFCs by simultaneously considering multiple conflicting objectives.Ke Yang Yijun He Zifeng Ma 2017Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2017,25,8:1

10CRISPR/Cas9 screening identifies a kinetochore-microtubule dependent mechanism for Aurora-A inhibitor resistance in breast cancer显示文摘Background:Overexpression of Aurora-A(AURKA)is a feature of breast cancer and associates with adverse prognosis.The selective Aurora-A inhibitor alisertib(MLN8237)has recently demonstrated promising antitumor responses as a single agent in various cancer types but its phase III clinical trial was reported as a failure since MLN8237 did not show an apparent effect in prolonging the survival of patients.Thus,identification of potential targets that could enhance the activity of MLN8237 would provide a rationale for drug combination to achieve better therapeutic outcome.Methods:Here,we conducted a systematic synthetic lethality CRISPR/Cas9 screening of 507 kinases using MLN8237 in breast cancer cells and identified a number of targetable kinases that displayed synthetic lethality interactions with MLN8237.Then,we performed competitive growth assays,colony formation assays,cell viability assays,apoptosis assays,and xenograft murine model to evaluate the synergistic therapeutic effects of Haspin(GSG2)depletion or inhibition with MLN8237.For mechanistic studies,immunofluorescence was used to detect the state of microtubules and the localization of Aurora-B and mitotic centromere-associated kinesin(MCAK).Results:Among the hits,we observed that Haspin depletion or inhibition marginally inhibited breast cancer cell growth but could substantially enhance the killing effects of MLN8237.Mechanistic studies showed that co-treatment with Aurora-A and Haspin inhibitors abolished the recruitment of Aurora-B and mitotic centromere-associated kinesin(MCAK)to centromeres which were associated with excessive microtubule depolymerization,kinetochore-microtubule(KT-MT)attachment failure,and severe mitotic catastrophe.We further showed that the combination of MLN8237 and the Haspin inhibitor CHR-6494 synergistically reduced breast cancer cell viability and significantly inhibited both in vitro and in vivo tumor growth.Conclusions:These findings establish Haspin as a synthetic lethal target and demonstrate CHR-6494 as a potential combinational drug for promoting the therapeutic effects of MLN8237 on breast cancer.Ailin Chen Shijun Wen Fang Liu Zijian Zhang Meiling Liu Yuanzhong Wu Bin He Min Yan Tiebang Kang Eric W-F Lam Zifeng Wang Quentin Liu 2021Cancer Communications2021,41,2:1

14Rainfall forecast errors in different landfall stages of Super Typhoon Lekima (2019)显示文摘The rainfall forecast performance of the Tropical Cyclone(TC)version Model of Global and Regional Assimilation PrEdiction System(GRAPESTCM)of the China Meteorological Administration for landfalling Super Typhoon Lekima(2019)is studied by using the object-oriented verification method of contiguous rain area(CRA).The major error sources and possible reasons for the rainfall forecast uncertainties in different landfall stages(including near landfall and moving further inland)are compared.Results show that different performance and errors of rainfall forecast exist in the different TC stages.In the near landfall stage the asymmetric rainfall distribution is hard to be simulated,which might be related to the too strong forecasted TC intensity and too weak vertical wind shear accompanied.As Lekima moves further inland,the rain pattern and volume errors gradually increase.The Equitable Threat Score of the 24 h forecasted rainfall over 100 mm declines quickly with the time-length over land.The diagnostic analysis shows that there exists an interaction between the TC and the mid-latitude westerlies,but too weak frontogenesis is simulated.The results of this research indicate that for the current numerical model,the forecast ability of persistent heavy rainfall is very limited,especially when the weakened landing TC moves further inland.Bin HE Zifeng YU Yan TAN Yan SHEN Yingjun CHEN 2022Frontiers of Earth Science2022,16,1:1

17Efficacy and safety of the combination of Liushen capsules and Arbidol in the treatment of COVID-19:protocol for a randomized,multi-center pilot study显示文摘Background:From early experience,some Traditional Chinese Medicine and Arbidol had effects of against COVID-19,infer that the combination of Liushen capsules and Arbidol may further increase the therapeutic.Methods/Design:We conducted a randomized,blank parallel-controlled,open-label,multi-center,basal therapy-loaded design clinical trial.A total of 40 patients are going to be recruited after satisfying the criteria.Participants will be allocated randomly into the treatment group with the combination of Arbidol and Liushen capsules and the control group with the basic therapy.Each group will receive treatment at least 7-days or until the virus becomes negative,and visits after drug administration at day 3(visit 1),the day when the virus becomes negative(visit 2),day 7(visit 3),the day before discharge(visit 4)and day 28(visit 5),to collect their survival status and disease prognosis so that the efficacy and safety of a combination of Arbidol and Liushen capsule will be evaluated.Discussion:We described the protocol of the first clinical trial for treatment COVID-19 by using a combination of Arbidol and Liushen capsules.The results of this study will provide a basis for the design and sample size estimate of subsequent large-scale clinical trials.Trial registration:This study has been registered at Chinese clinical trial Registry(chictr.org.cn):ChiCTR2000029993.Yangqing Zhan Zhengtu Li Jiayang He Shaoqiang Li Ye Lin Jingyi Liang Jie Zhou Yanmei Wu Xuandan Su Feng Ye Zifeng Yang 2020TMR Modern Herbal Medicine2020,3,4:0

20Cancer cell employs a microenvironmental neural signal transactivating nucleus-mitochondria coordination to acquire stemness显示文摘Cancer cell receives extracellular signal inputs to obtain a stem-like status,yet how tumor microenvironmental(TME)neural signals steer cancer stemness to establish the hierarchical tumor architectures remains elusive.Here,a pan-cancer transcriptomic screening for 10852 samples of 33 TCGA cancer types reveals that cAMP-responsive element(CRE)transcription factors are convergent activators for cancer stemness.Deconvolution of transcriptomic profiles,specification of neural markers and illustration of norepinephrine dynamics uncover a bond between TME neural signals and cancer-cell CRE activity.Specifically,neural signal norepinephrine potentiates the stemness of proximal cancer cells by activating cAMP-CRE axis,where ATF1 serves as a conserved hub.Upon activation by norepinephrine,ATF1 potentiates cancer stemness by coordinated trans-activation of both nuclear pluripotency factors MYC/NANOG and mitochondrial biogenesis regulators NRF1/TFAM,thereby orchestrating nuclear reprograming and mitochondrial rejuvenating.Accordingly,single-cell transcriptomes confirm the coordinated activation of nuclear pluripotency with mitochondrial biogenesis in cancer stem-like cells.These findings elucidate that cancer cell acquires stemness via a norepinephrine-ATF1 driven nucleus-mitochondria collaborated program,suggesting a spatialized stemness acquisition by hijacking microenvironmental neural signals.Bin He Rui Gao Shasha Lv Ailin Chen Junxiu Huang Luoxuan Wang Yunxiu Feng Jiesi Feng Bing Liu Jie Lei Bing Deng Bin He Bai Cui Fei Peng Min Yan Zifeng Wang Eric W-F Lam Bilian Jin Zhiming Shao Yulong Li Jianwei Jiao Xi Wang Quentin Liu 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,8:0
