The dynamic stability of the flow in a meander channel显示文摘The meander channel is one of the most common channel patterns in nature. The characteristics of the flow and sediment in a meander channel which have significant effect on the development of watercourse are important subjects in river dynamics. The transition of the flow patterns in a meander channel concerns with the development mode of the channel pattern and the river regime including the generation conditions of the three-dimensional coherent vortex and secondary flow, the hierarchical scale of coherent vortex in different flow conditions, the large-scale turbulent eddy structure adapted to a meander, etc. In this paper we study the laminar flow instability of the two-dimensional channel in a meander channel. It is essentially different from that in a straight channel:The neutral curve will move forward and the critical Reynolds number will decrease. The flow is unstable in response to a wider range of the disturbance wave number,or the laminar flow instability can happen more easily. The above results could not be obtained in the traditional hydrodynamic stability theory so that our work in this paper would make up for the deficiency and blank in this aspect.BAI YuChuan YANG YanHua 2011Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,4:8
A study on the stability of laminar open-channel flow over a sandy rippled bed显示文摘The bed of a river often features some kinds of bedform, such as sand ripples, dunes, and so on. Even if the bed is smooth initially, disturbances arising from the bed or other external sources will cause the laminar flow in an open channel to become unstable as soon as the flow develops, thereby leading to the formation of sand ripples on the bed. In return, the formation of the sand ripples will modify the instability path of the laminar flow passing over them. The wavy character of the bed will induce further instability of the flow, which is essentially different from that on a smooth bed: the neutral curve will move forward and the critical Reynolds number will decrease. The flow is unstable in response to a wider range of the disturbance wave number, or the laminar flow instability can happen more easily. The propagation speed of the sand ripples also affects the flow instability, since the stability of open channel flow over a movable bed is fundamentally different from that on a rigid bed. These instability effects are discussed in detail in this paper.BAI Yuchuan XU Haijue 2005Science China(Technological Sciences)2005,48,1:8
THREE DIMENSIONAL MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF SEDIMENT TRANSPORT IN ESTUARINE REGIONS-A CASE STUDY OF THE HAIHE RIVER MOUTH显示文摘A 3-D numerical model for simulating tidal flow and sediment transport in the estuarine regions is presented in this paper. The model adopts -coordinate system and carries out -coordinate transformation to the basic equations, which ensure that all horizontal area has equal numbers of calculation points in vertical direction, this method provides higher distinguishable rate to the flow and sediment transport. Under the -coordinate system, the Galerkin finite-element method is applied for horizontal domain by using a new specially interpolating shape functions, while a finite difference approximation is employed over depth. The model can be used even in the situations with a considerable variety in the water depth in the computational domain. The model is verified by a test for which analytical solutions are available and then applied to simulate the tidal current and sediment transport of the Haihe River Mouth. A modeling system of sediment transport is established for applying to muddy estuary of North China. The comparison with the field data shows that the model can well simulate the evolution process in the estuary.BAI Yuchuan, SHEN Huanting, and HU Shixiong ( Asso. 4A Preliminary Review of Metallogenic Regularity of Silver Deposits in China显示文摘China has widely distributed silver deposits, and is rich in silver resources.Although silver deposits are mainly associated with Pb-Zn deposits,a number of independent silver deposits have also been discovered in recent years.Silver deposits include different types, such as submarine volcanism and continental volcanism related type, intrusion related type, and sedimentary related type. This study summarized the metallogenic regularity of China's silver deposits systematically based mainly on the data from 490 silver deposits. It is shown that submarine volcanic sedimentary type, continental volcanic or sub-volcanic type, skarn type, hydrothermal type(including vein type and stratabound type),sedimentary metamorphic type, sedimentary type and regolith type should be regarded as the most important prediction types of silver deposit.A total of 32 silver mineralization belts and 111 silver concentration areas have been delineated. The map of 'Spatial distribution of silver mineralization belts in China' and other series of maps finished in this study may provide a theoretical basis for the evaluation and prognosis of silver resources potential in China.JIANG Biao ZHANG Daquan WANG Denghong WANG Chenghui CHEN Yuchuan BAI Ge 2015Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,3:5
Stability and self-adaption character of turbulence coherent structure in narrow-deep river bend显示文摘In a meandering river,a certain scale of turbulent vortex dominates the development of river morphology, making the river bend with s particular curvature. This kind of vortex is denoted as 'bend-forming vortex'.The coordinated relationship of bend-forming vortex and meandering river channel is then known as 'self-adaption feature' of rivers. With these two concepts, this paper investigated the stability and self-adaption character of coherent vortex in the U-shape river bend with a constant curvature. On the basis of fluid mechanics theory and in consideration of turbulent coherent vortex as disturbance, the growth rate and the wave number response range of coherent vortex in meandering rivers with different curvatures were calculated in this paper. Moreover, the responses of different scales of coherent turbulence structure to river bend parameters were analyzed to explain the mechanism of river bend maintenance. These methods could provide a theoretical basis for further investigation on river meandering.BAI YuChuan JI ZiQing XU HaiJue 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,11:5
The nonlinear theory for sediment ripple dynamic process of straight river显示文摘There are various sand ripples in the natural world. The viewpoint of Yalin is that local disturbances result in laminar instability and in sand-ripple formation, namely, local disturbance→ t he instability of the laminar flow →t he formation of sand ripples.Based on this viewpoint,a theoretical model of the resonant triad interaction and its nonlinear interaction with the sediment is established. The purpose of this model is to explain the formation and evolution of the sand-ripple and allow for analysis of the instability of open-channel flow caused by it and sand-ripple hydro-dynamic process. This model will not only pave a road to explore the mechanism of interaction between bed-form and turbulence, but also provide a good base for the study of aeolian sand-ripple formation.XU HaiJue BAI YuChuan 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,3:5
Incipient motion of non-uniform coarse grain of bedload considering the impact of two-way exposure显示文摘The incipient motion of bedload is due to the interaction between the flow and sediment. It is stochastically correlated with the flow structure, the sediment gradation and the arrangement of grains on the bed surface. The random position of the sediment on bed can be represented by a hiding factor or an exposure degree.Based on the numerical simulation of the disturbed flow in the interstice of grains, the influence of the two-way exposure degree(the vertical exposure degree and the longitudinal exposure degree) on the coarse grain incipient motion was investigated in this work. Results show that the exposure degree varies with the position of the sediment on the bed, which influences the flow structure around the particle and the incipient motion. In this paper, the major research achievements on this phenomenon include:Firstly,a mathematical model is established for the rolling-pattern incipient motion of the coarse grain under a critical state of moment balance. The influence of the partial disturbed flow is considered.Secondly, the two-way relative-exposure-degree probability distribution functions are developed to reflect the influence of the disturbed flow and the random arrangement of sediments.Thirdly,a formula to calculate the incipient velocity is presented based on the above results, which considers the impact of the two-way exposure degree of sediment particles.BAI YuChuan WANG Xin CAO YongGang 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,8:5
Review of the Metallogenic Regularity of Magnesite Deposits in China显示文摘China has abundant reserves of magnesite, making it the world's leading source of this strategic mineral.Sparry magnesite is the main type of magnesite deposit, and is easy to exploit. It occurs mainly as the sedimentary-metamorphic type.Production is centred on eastern Liaoning Province, where a world-class large to super large magnesite ore processing and production facility has been developed.Hydrothermal metasomatic deposits, associated with ultramafic complexes and eluvial deposits produced by weathering, are two other important types found in China. The Western section of the Bangonghu-Nujiang metallogenic belt is an important target region for prospecting lake-sedimentary magnesite deposits.Based on a systematic analysis of material from 62 magnesite production areas, this study investigated the metallogeny of magnesite and delineated 13 magnesite metallogenic belts.Maps were produced showing metallogenic regularities in magnesite deposits, the metallogenic system of the magnesite deposits, and the distribution of the metallogenic belts of Chinese magnesite deposits. It provides a theoretical basis for forecasting the location of potential magnesite resources in China. Finally, it explores some key scientific issues, including the formation processes of ultra magnesite ore-concentrated areas, and their sources of magnesium.ZHAO Zheng CUI Xiaolin WANG Denghong CHEN Yuchuan BAI Ge LI Jiankang LIU Xinxing 2015Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,5:3
Theoretical analyses on hydrodynamic instability in narrow deep river with variable curvature显示文摘Bending river is the most common river type in nature, and it is also a typical example for river evolution. The transform of the flow pattern can affect the development of the riverbed form. In return, the variation in the riverbed form can affect the hydrodynamic characteristics of the flow, thereby leading to the continuous evolution of the bending river. Based on this, a theoretical model for the bending river is established. The hydrodynamic instability characteristics of the laminar flow in the channel with a variable curvature, a typical model as the meandering river, are studied, and the variations of some parameters such as the curvature, the wave number, and the wave frequency are also discussed.Haijue XU Yuchuan BAI 2015Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2015,36,9:3
Stability characteristics of the open channel flow above the asymmetrical irregular sand ripples显示文摘Sandy bed cannot keep its original smoothness as the flows pass. With the increase of the flow intensity, the bed forms will appear as sand ripples and dune in turn. Among these morphologies, the sand ripple scale is the smallest, which is generally symmetrical when it just appears, but as time goes on, the asymmetrical form gradually develops. Just because of this sand ripples asymmetry, it manifests the influence of the flow on the bed morphology and also the impact on the laminar flow dynamical process, especially the stability characteristics. The stability features of laminar flow on open channels with the asymmetrical sand ripples are discussed, and also the results on the symmetrical sand ripples are compared in detail.XU HaiJue & BAI YuChuan* Institute for Sedimentation River and Coastal Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072, China 2010Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,8:3

Stability characteristics of hyper-concentration flow in open channel显示文摘The flow instability is related to many engineering problems and belongs to a wide-ranging research field. When the problem on the transition from the laminar to the turbulence caused by the instability of the laminar is studied, the 'neutral line' and the critical Reynolds number are always taken as the criterion to judge whether a certain kind of flow is stable, whose corresponding flow medium is the clear water, that is,the single-phase Newtonian fluid. And it is not studied in the traditional in-stability theory that the hyper-concentration flow widely exists in rivers. This shortage can be covered by this research. Study shows that the instability of non-Newtonian fluid such as hyper-concentration fluid, compared with Newtonian fluid such as clear water,is influenced by not only Reynolds number, the ratio of the inertia force and the viscous force, but also many other factors such as the sediment concentration, the concentration distribution, the grain size, the volu-metric weight of the sediment and so on,which make the mechanical principle even more complex. So the results of the research can supply the scientific basis for the explanations of 'slurrying river',the turbulence intensity of the flow carrying sediment and the variance of the turbulence structure.XU HaiJue BAI YuChuan 2008Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2008,51,9:2

The Solar Upper Transition Region Imager(SUTRI)Onboard the SATech-01 Satellite显示文摘The Solar Upper Transition Region Imager(SUTRI)onboard the Space Advanced Technology demonstration satellite(SATech-01),which was launched to a Sun-synchronous orbit at a height of~500 km in 2022 July, aims to test the on-orbit performance of our newly developed Sc/Si multi-layer reflecting mirror and the 2k×2k EUV CMOS imaging camera and to take full-disk solar images at the Ne VII 46.5 nm spectral line with a filter width of~3 nm.SUTRI employs a Ritchey-Chrétien optical system with an aperture of 18 cm.The on-orbit observations show that SUTRI images have a field of view of~416×416 and a moderate spatial resolution of~8″without an image stabilization system. The normal cadence of SUTRI images is 30 s and the solar observation time is about16 hr each day because the earth eclipse time accounts for about 1/3 of SATech-01's orbit period.Approximately15 GB data is acquired each day and made available online after processing.SUTRI images are valuable as the Ne VII 46.5 nm line is formed at a temperature regime of~0.5 MK in the solar atmosphere, which has rarely been sampled by existing solar imagers.SUTRI observations will establish connections between structures in the lower solar atmosphere and corona, and advance our understanding of various types of solar activity such as flares, filament eruptions, coronal jets and coronal mass ejections.Xianyong Bai Hui Tian Yuanyong Deng Zhanshan Wang Jianfeng Yang Xiaofeng Zhang Yonghe Zhang Runze Qi Nange Wang Yang Gao Jun Yu Chunling He Zhengxiang Shen Lun Shen Song Guo Zhenyong Hou Kaifan Ji Xingzi Bi Wei Duan Xiao Yang Jiaben Lin Ziyao Hu Qian Song Zihao Yang Yajie Chen Weidong Qiao Wei Ge Fu Li Lei Jin Jiawei He Xiaobo Chen Xiaocheng Zhu Junwang He Qi Shi Liu Liu Jinsong Li Dongxiao Xu Rui Liu Taijie Li Zhenggong Feng Yamin Wang Chengcheng Fan Shuo Liu Sifan Guo Zheng Sun Yuchuan Wu Haiyu Li Qi Yang Yuyang Ye Weichen Gu Jiali Wu Zhe Zhang Yue Yu Zeyi Ye Pengfeng Sheng Yifan Wang Wenbin Li Qiushi Huang Zhong Zhang 2023Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics2023,23,6:1
A type of dynamic mechanism of river hydraulic geometry显示文摘Large-scale structure of river flow is the main driving force for bed erosion-deposition and bank deformation. The structure shapes and retains a corresponding hydraulic geometry form. Therefore, the most stable flow structure is the probable natural river plane formation.Natural coordinate transformation and perturbation methods were adapted to deform the governing equations of sine-generated river basic flow and disturbance flow independently. The stability and retention of perturbation waves were analyzed in our model to explain why meandering rivers followed a certain type of flow path.Computation results showed that all types of perturbation waves in meandering rivers were most stable when the meandering wave number was about 0.39–0.41.We believe that this type of stable flow structure shaped a certain meandering river. The statistical average length-width ratios of Yalin,Habib and da Silva and Leopold and Wolman somewhat confirmed our most stable river meandering wave number. In some ways, meandering rivers always tend to diminish internal turbulence intensity.BAI YuChuan JI ZiQing ZHANG MingJin 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,4:1
A numerical model with Stokes drift for pollutant transport within the surf zone on a plane beach显示文摘This study examines the effects of Stokes drift on pollutant transport within the surf zone on a plane beach both numerically and experimentally. Firstly, the numerical model is described. The wave-induced current is modeled using the concept of the radiation stress. The wave propagation model is based on the wave energy conservation equation. And the advective diffusion model including the Stokes drift is used to describe the pollutant transport in the surf zone. Model validation was achieved in this case versus an analytical solution for an instantaneous point source in a uniform horizontal flow. This study also describes a laboratory experiment on dye release in the surf zone over a plane beach. We examined the final inclination angle required by a continuously released pollutant plume to reach the shoreline under both cases, and transport velocities in the alongshore and cross- shore directions were estimated by linearly fitting the location of a dye-patch front at different time. Results show that this dye patch moved shoreward with an approximate speed of 0.05 m/s (0.017 m/s) between 10 s and 40 s and 0.001 m/s (0.011 m/s) after 40 s for Case 1 (2). This model was then used to simulate pollutant transport in the surf zone on a plane beach as reproduced in the current experiment. Comparisons between our dye transport experiment and numerical results were then also conducted;the data showed that the numerical results including Stokes drift agreed more closely with experimental results than those without it. The data showed that the pollutant was generally transported obviously shoreward in addition to its expected drift along the shore. We also suggest that Stokes drift plays an important role in pollutant movement in the surf zone, especially shoreward.Chunping Ren Rongrong Liang Chong Yu Yuchuan Bai 2019Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,9:1
Theoretical analyses on bed topography responses in large depth-to-width ratio river bends with constant curvatures显示文摘Bed morphology is the result of a dynamic response to a complex meandering river system. It is an important factor for the further development of river. Based on the meandering river characterized by a large depth-to-width ratio, a theoretical model is established with the coupling of Navier-Stokes(N-S), sediment transport, and bed deformation equations. The flow characteristics and bed response of river are obtained with the perturbation method. The research results show that, under the effect of twodimensional flow disturbance, the bars and pools present the regular response. For a given sinuousness, the amplitude of the bed response can be used as a criterion to judge the bedform stability. The effects of the Reynolds number, disturbance wavenumber, sinuousness, and bed morphology gradient on the bed response development are described.Shuxian GAO Haijue XU Yuchuan BAI 2018Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2018,39,5:1
Numerical Modeling of Local Scour Around Hydraulic Structure in Sandy Beds by Dynamic Mesh Method显示文摘Local scour, a non-negligible factor in hydraulic engineering, endangers the safety of hydraulic structures. In this work, a numerical model for simulating local scour was constructed, based on the open source code computational fluid dynamics model Open FOAM. We consider both the bedload and suspended load sediment transport in the scour model and adopt the dynamic mesh method to simulate the evolution of the bed elevation. We use the finite area method to project data between the three-dimensional flow model and the two-dimensional(2D) scour model. We also improved the 2D sand slide method and added it to the scour model to correct the bed bathymetry when the bed slope angle exceeds the angle of repose. Moreover, to validate our scour model, we conducted and compared the results of three experiments with those of the developed model. The validation results show that our developed model can reliably simulate local scour.FAN Fei LIANG Bingchen BAI Yuchuan ZHU Zhixia ZHU Yanjun 2017Journal of Ocean University of China2017,16,5:0
Applications of sediment sudden deposition model based on the third-generation numerical model for shallow water wave显示文摘The existing numerical models for nearshore waves are briefly introduced, and the third-generation numerical model for shallow water wave, which makes use of the most advanced productions of wave research and has been adapted well to be used in the environment of seacoast, lake and estuary area, is particularly discussed. The applied model realizes the significant wave height distribution at different wind directions. To integrate the model into the coastal area sediment, sudden deposition mechanism, the distribution of average silt content and the change of sediment sudden deposition thickness over time in the nearshore area are simulated. The academic productions can give some theoretical guidance to the applications of sediment sudden deposition mechanism for stormy waves in the coastal area. And the advancing directions of sediment sudden deposition model are prospected.BAI Yuchuan ZHANG Yinqi ZHANG Bin 2007Acta Oceanologica Sinica2007,26,3:0
