| 1 | In-Season Root-Zone Nitrogen Management Strategies for Improving Nitrogen Use Efficiency in High-Yielding Maize Production in China显示文摘Many recently developed N management strategies have been extremely successful in improving N use efficiency.How-ever,attempts to further increase grain yields have had limited success.Field experiments were conducted in 2007 and 2008 at four sites to evaluate the effect of an in-season root-zone N management strategy on maize (Zea mays L.).According to the in-season root-zone N management,the optimal N rate (ONR) was determined by subtracting measured soil mineral N (NH + 4--N and NO 3--N) in the root zone from N target values.Other treatments included a control without N fertilization,70% of ONR,130% of ONR,and recommended N rate (RNR) by agronomists in China that have been shown to approach maize yield potentials.Although apparent N recovery for the ONR treatment was significantly higher than that under RNR in 2007,grain yield declined from 13.3 to 11.0 Mg ha 1 because of an underestimation of N uptake.In 2008,N target values were adjusted to match crop uptake,and N fertilization rates were reduced from 450 kg N ha-1 for RNR to 225 to 265 kg N ha-1 for ONR.High maize yields were maintained at 12.6 to 13.5 Mg ha 1,which were twice the yield from typical farmers' practice.As a result,apparent N recovery increased from 29% to 66%,and estimated N losses decreased significantly for the ONR treatment compared to the RNR treatment.In conclusion,the in-season root-zone N management approach was able to achieve high yields,high NUE and low N losses. | MENG Qing-Feng CHEN Xin-Ping ZHANG Fu-Suo CAO Ming-Hui CUI Zhen-Ling BAI Jin-Shun YUE Shan-Chao CHEN Su-Yi T.MULLER | 2012 | Pedosphere2012,22,3: | 22 |
| 2 | Spatial-temporal Changes of Vegetation Cover in Guizhou Province, Southern China显示文摘Guizhou Province is an important karst area in the world and a fragile ecological area in China. Ecological risk assessment is very necessary to be conducted in this region. This study investigates different characteristics of the spatial-temporal changes of vegetation cover in Guizhou Province of Southern China using the data set of SPOT VEGETATION(1999–2015) at spatial resolution of 1-km and temporal resolution of 10-day. The coefficient of variation, the Theil-Sen median trend analysis, and the Mann-Kendall test are used to investigate the spatial-temporal change of vegetation cover and its future trend. Results show that: 1) the spatial distribution pattern of vegetation cover in Guizhou Plateau is high in the east whereas low in the west. The average annual normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) from west to east is higher than that from south to north. 2) Average annual NDVI improved obviously in the past 17 years. The growth rate of average annual NDVI is 0.028/10 yr, which is slower than that of vegetation in the country(0.048/10 yr) from 1998 to 2007. Average annual NDVI in karst area is lower than that in non-karst area. However, the growing rate of average annual NDVI in karst area(0.030/10 yr) is faster than that in non-karst area(0.023/10 yr), indicating that vegetation coverage increases more rapidly in karst area. 3) Vegetation coverage in the study area is stable overall, but fluctuates in the local scales. 4) Vegetation coverage presents a continuous increasing trend. The Hurst exponent of NDVI in different vegetation types has an obvious threshold in various elevations. 5) The proportion of vegetation cover with sustainable increase is higher than that of vegetation cover with sustainable decrease. | 4 | High Serum CEA and CYFRA21-1 Levels after a Two-Cycle Adjuvant Chemotherapy for NSCLC:Possible Poor Prognostic Factors显示文摘Objective The aim of this study was to test whether carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) and cytokeratin 19 fragments(CYFRA21-1) can be used as a prognostic factor for non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC) after two cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy in NSCLC patients. Methods A total of 169 patients underwent at least two cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy.The serum levels of CEA and CYFRA21-1 were recorded after the second cycle of chemotherapy,and the patient follow-up was conducted.Overall survival(OS) and diseasefree survival(DFS) were used as the primary endpoint and the secondary endpoint,respectively. Results The high levels of CEA and CYFRA21-1 after two cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy were poor prognostic factors for OS,with risk ratios(RR) of 2.003 and 1.702,respectively.A high CEA level was a poor prognostic factor(RR 1.152) for DFS.The median survival time(MST) of the high CEA level group was 26 months,whereas that of the normal group was 61 months(P<0.0001).The median DFS time of the high CEA group and the normal group was 34 and 53 months,respectively(P<0.0001).The MST of the high CYFRA21-1 group and the normal group was 43 and 56 months,respectively(PO.0001). | 5 | Anti-fibrotic Effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Ligustrazine Injection on LX-2 Cells Involved with Increased N-myc Downstream-Regulated Gene 2 Expression显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Ligustrazine Injection(SML) on proliferation and apoptosis of human hepatic stellate cell LX-2 and the expression of N-myc downstreamregulated gene 2(NDRG2, a tumor suppressor gene). Methods: HSCs from the LX-2 cell line were cultured in vitro. The proliferative state of different initial LX-2 cell numbers was measured using a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) colorimetric assay. LX-2 cells were plated in 96-well plates at an approximate density of 2.50×10~4 cells/mL and cultured for 24 h followed by the application of different concentrations of SML(1, 2, 4 and 8 μL/mL). Cell proliferation was measured using the MTT assay at 24 and 48 h. Apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry at 24 h. LX-2 cells were treated with different concentrations of SML and extracted with protein lysis buffer. The levels of NDRG2 and β-catenin were measured by Western blot. Results: With the exception of the 1 and 2 μL/mL concentrations, 4 and 8 μL/mL SML inhibited cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner at 24 and 48 h(P<0.05). With the exception of the 1 and 2 μL/mL concentrations, the NDRG2 expression level was greatly increased in a concentration-dependent manner. However, the level of β-catenin was unaffected. | 9 | Modeling and Robust Backstepping Sliding Mode Control with Adaptive RBFNN for a Novel Coaxial Eight-rotor UAV显示文摘This paper focuses on the robust attitude control of a novel coaxial eight-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) which has higher drive capability as well as greater robustness against disturbances than quad-rotor UAV. The dynamical and kinematical model for the coaxial eight-rotor UAV is developed, which has never been proposed before. A robust backstepping sliding mode controller(BSMC) with adaptive radial basis function neural network(RBFNN) is proposed to control the attitude of the eightrotor UAV in the presence of model uncertainties and external disturbances. The combinative method of backstepping control and sliding mode control has improved robustness and simplified design procedure benefiting from the advantages of both controllers. The adaptive RBFNN as the uncertainty observer can effectively estimate the lumped uncertainties without the knowledge of their bounds for the eight-rotor UAV. Additionally, the adaptive learning algorithm, which can learn the parameters of RBFNN online and compensate the approximation error, is derived using Lyapunov stability theorem. And then the uniformly ultimate stability of the eight-rotor system is proved. It is well ac- cepted that fluorescence characteristics and mo- lecular weight distribution are two important pa- rameters in the DOM characterization. However, the relationship between them is still unknown. In this study, fluorescence and molecular weight distribution of DOM in Lake Hongfeng, Lake Baihua and their rivers, and their relationship were investigated using the combination of fluorescence spectroscopy and high-performance size exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) with on-line UV absorbance and fluores- cence detectors. The results show that there were two obvious humic-like fluorescence peaks (Peaks A and B) in DOM from lake water. But there was an- other obvious protein-like fluorescence peak (Peak C) in DOM from river water. The humic-like fluorescence material consisted of DOM fraction with smaller mo- lecular weight, ranging from 1.0 to 3.0 kDa, while the protein-like fluorescence material mainly consisted of DOM fraction with MW larger than 2.0 kDa. | 12 | Distributions and sources of n-alkanes in PM_(2.5) at urban,industrial and coastal sites in Tianjin,China显示文摘Aliphatic hydrocarbons(n-alkanes) associated with fine particulate matter were determined in the ambient air of urban,industrial and coastal areas in Tianjin,China,where intensive coal burning for industrial and domestic purpose takes place.n-Alkane homologues from C12 to C35 were quantifiable in all samples with C20-C31 being the most abundant species.Average concentrations of the total n-alkanes were 148.7,250.1 and 842.0 ng/m3 in July,April and January,respectively.Seasonal variations were mainly attributed to ambient temperature changes and coal combustion for residential heating.Among the three studied areas,the highest levels of n-alkanes were observed in the industrial complex in winter and spring,but in summer the coastal alkane concentration moved up to the highest. | 16 | Endothelial cell-specific anticoagulation reduces inflammation in a mouse model of acute lung injury显示文摘Tissue factor (TF)-dependent coagulation contributes to lung inflammation and the pathogenesis of acute lung injury (ALI). In this study, we explored the roles of targeted endothelial anticoagulation in ALI using two strains of transgenic mice expressing either a membrane-tethered human tissue factor pathway inhibitor (hTFPI) or hirudin fusion protein on CD31^+ cells, including vascular endothelial cells (ECs). ALI was induced by intratracheal injection of LPS, and after 24 h the expression of TF and protease-activated receptors (PARs) on EC in lungs were assessed, alongside the extent of inflammation and injury. The expression of TF and PARs on the EC in lungs was upregulated after ALI. In the two strains of transgenic mice, expression of either of hTFPI or hirudin by EC was associated with significant reduction of inflammation, as assessed by the extent of leukocyte infiltration or the levels of proinflammatory cytokines, and promoted survival after LPS-induced ALI. The beneficial outcomes were associated with inhibition of the expression of chemokine CCL2 in lung tissues. The protection observed in the CD31-TFPI-transgenic strain was abolished by injection of an anti-hTFPI antibody, but not by prior engraftment of the transgenic strains with WT bone marrow, confirming that the changes observed were a specific transgenic expression of anticoagulants by EC. These results demonstrate that the inflammation in ALI is TF and thrombin dependent, and that expression of anticoagulants by EC significantly inhibits the development of ALI via repression of leukocyte infiltration, most likely via inhibition of chemokine gradients. | 17 | Spatiotemporal evolution of carbon sequestration of limestone weathering in China显示文摘Carbonate carbon sequestration(CS) can aid in solving the problem of terrestrial residual carbon sinks and imbalances in the global carbon budget. Thus, complete understanding of the magnitude, spatiotemporal distribution, and evolution of this sequestration is highly desirable. On the basis of random forest regression and maximal potential dissolution model for carbonate, we estimated the CS of typical carbonate weathering in China from 2000 to 2014, that is, the sequestration of limestone weathering, using long-term ecologic, meteorological, hydrological raster data, and monitored data from 44 watersheds in China and surrounding regions. We extended our analyses by systematically exploring the spatiotemporal pattern and evolution trend of the flux and total sequestration. High levels of ionic activity coefficients of Ca^(2+) and HCO_3^- in limestone regions were observed to be mainly distributed in Northern and Northwestern China with a clear gradient from northwest to southeast. With a contrary spatial pattern, the annual average CS flux(CSF) of limestone weathering in China was estimated to be 4.28 t C km^(-2) yr^(-1), with high values mainly in the karst zones in Southeastern China. The mean CSF in different latitudes showed that Southern China(south of 28.14°N) was the region with the largest interannual fluctuation of flux and CSF increases as latitude decreases. The mean CSF in subtropical and tropical(TR) regions was the maximum of all major climate types, and for the frigid(F), mid-temperate(MTE), warm temperate(WTE), and temperate(TE) major climates; the CSF in the desert(D)subdivided climate was the minimum of these climates. By contrast, the values in grassland(G) and broad-leaved forest subdivided climate were the maximum. The pixel-based trend analysis indicated that the CSF of limestone weathering in China was slightly increasing in the period 2000–2014 with a rate of 0.036 t C km^(-2) yr^(-1). Furthermore, the annual total CS was estimated to be 7.07 Tg carbon per year(Tg C yr^(-1)) with high levels in 2002, 2008, and 2010, and the minimum appeared in 2011 with a slightly increasing trend of the total CS being observed with a rate of 0.06 Tg C yr^(-1). Tibet Autonomous Region was the administrative division with the largest total CS of limestone weathering(1.20 Tg C yr^(-1)) in China, and karst zones in Southeastern China had the largest total CS(4.95 Tg C yr^(-1)) which accounts for 70.01% of that in the three divided karst regions. On the basis of the diversity of rock chemical weathering carbon cycle mechanisms of different carbonate rock types, we estimated that the total CS of carbonate weathering in China may reach 11.37 Tg C yr^(-1)(the sink was approximately 5.02 t C km^(-2) yr^(-1)),which amounts to 16.20% of the total biomass CS in China, furthermore, the CSF of carbonate weathering in China can reach6.54 t C km^(-2) yr^(-1) if excluding the interference of the negative runoff. This finding indicates that CS of carbonate weathering is an indispensable part of China's terrestrial carbon sink system. Expression of HBcAg in the ova, granular, interstitial and endothelial cells of interstitial blood vessels of the ovaries was found in the cytomembrane, cytoplasm, and nuclei. | 20 | Pancreatic lipase inhibitory constituents from Fructus Psoraleae显示文摘Pancreatic lipase(PL), a crucial enzyme in the digestive system of mammals, has been proven as a therapeutic target to prevent and treat obesity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and characterize the PL inhibition activities of the major constituents from Fructus Psoraleae(FP), one of the most frequently used Chinese herbs with lipid-lowering activity. To this end, a total of eleven major constituents isolated from Fructus Psoraleae have been obtained and their inhibition potentials against PL have been assayed by a fluorescence-based assay. Among all tested compounds, isobavachalcone, bavachalcone and corylifol A displayed strong inhibition on PL(IC50 < 10 μmol·L-1). Inhibition kinetic analyses demonstrated that isobavachalcone, bavachalcone and corylifol A acted as mixed inhibitors against PL-mediated 4-methylumbelliferyl oleate(4-MUO) hydrolysis, with the Ki values of 1.61, 3.77 and 10.16μmol·L-1, respectively. Furthermore, docking simulations indicated that two chalcones(isobavachalcone and bavachalcone) could interact with the key residues located in the catalytic cavity of PL via hydrogen binding and hydrophobic interactions.
