| 1 | Assessment of scoring systems for acute-on-chronic liver failure at predicting short-term mortality in patients with alcoholic hepatitis显示文摘AIM To assess the performance of proposed scores specific for acute-on-chronic liver failure in predicting shortterm mortality among patients with alcoholic hepatitis.METHODS We retrospectively collected data from 264 patients with clinically diagnosed alcoholic hepatitis from January to December 2013 at 21 academic hospitals in Korea. The performance for predicting short-term mortality was calculated for Chronic Liver FailureSequential Organ Failure Assessment(CLIF-SOFA), CLIF Consortium Organ Failure score(CLIF-C OFs), Maddrey'sdiscriminant function(DF), age, bilirubin, international normalized ratio and creatinine score(ABIC), Glasgow Alcoholic Hepatitis Score(GAHS), model for end-stage liver disease(MELD), and MELD-Na.RESULTS Of 264 patients, 32(12%) patients died within 28 d. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve of CLIF-SOFA, CLIF-C OFs, DF, ABIC, GAHS, MELD, and MELD-Na was 0.86(0.81-0.90), 0.89(0.84-0.92), 0.79(0.74-0.84), 0.78(0.72-0.83), 0.81(0.76-0.86), 0.83(0.78-0.88), and 0.83(0.78-0.88), respectively, for 28-d mortality. The performance of CLIF-SOFA had no statistically significant differences for 28-d mortality. The performance of CLIF-C OFs was superior to that of DF, ABIC, and GAHS, while comparable to that of MELD and MELD-Na in predicting 28-d mortality. | 3 | Development of RP-HPLC method for simultaneous determination of docetaxel and curcumin in rat plasma: Validation and stability显示文摘The purpose of the present research was to develop a suitable, simple, precise, accurate,robust, and reproducible RP-HPLC method for a reliable simultaneous quantification of docetaxel(DTX) and curcumin(CCM) in rat plasma samples using paclitaxel(PTX) as an internal standard. The samples were assayed by the Agilent 1260 Infinity HPLC instrument using a Capcell Pak C8 column(4.6 mm × 150 mm, 5 μm) under isocratic conditions. The mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile and triple distilled water(40/60, v/v) with a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The eluent was monitored at 230 nm for simultaneous measurement of curcumin and docetaxel. The method was validated by determining system suitability, selectivity, sensitivity, linearity, inter-day and intra-day precision, accuracy, robustness, and stability in accordance with the guidelines of the United States Food and Drug Administration(FDA).The developed chromatographic method proved to be simple, precise, accurate, robust and reproducible. Moreover, the samples showed stability at room temperature over a period of 48 h. | 14 | Comparative Analysis of Four Stem Taper Models for Quercus glauca in Mount Halla,Jeju Island,South Korea显示文摘This study was conducted to fit the diameter-height data of Quercus glauca in Jeju Island, South Korea to the four commonly used stem taper equations and to evaluate the performance of the four stem taper models using four statistical criteria: Fit index(FI), root mean square error(RMSE), bias( E), and absolute mean difference(AMD). Results showed that the Kozak02 stem taper equation provided the best FI(0.9847), RMSE(1.5745), E(-0.0030 cm) and AMD(1.0990 cm) while Max and Burkhart model had the poorest performance among the four stem taper models based on the four evaluation statistics(FI : 0.9793, RMSE : 1.8272, E : 0.3040 cm and AMD : 1.3060 cm). | 20 | Crohn's disease confined to the duodenum: A case report显示文摘Crohn's disease(CD) can involve any part of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to anus. However, gastroduodenal CD is rare with a frequency reported to range between 0.5% and 4.0%. Most patients with gastroduodenal CD have concomitant lesions in the terminal ileum or colon, but isolated gastroduodenal Crohn's disease is an extremely rare presentation of the disease accounting for less than 0.07% of all patients with CD. The symptoms of gastroduodenal CD include epigastric pain, dyspepsia, early satiety, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss. The diagnosis of gastroduodenal CD requires a high level of clinical suspicion and can be made by comprehensive clinical evaluation.
