| 1 | The levels, sources and reactivity of volatile organic compounds in a typical urban area of Northeast China显示文摘Air concentrations of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) were continually measured at a monitoring site in Shenyang from 20 August to 16 September 2017. The average concentrations of alkanes, alkenes, aromatics and carbonyls were 28.54, 6.30, 5.59 and9.78 ppbv, respectively. Seven sources were identified by the Positive Matrix Factorization model based on the measurement data of VOCs and CO. Vehicle exhaust contributed the most(36.15%) to the total propene-equivalent concentration of the measured VOCs,followed by combustion emission(16.92%), vegetation emission and secondary formation(14.33%), solvent usage(10.59%), petrochemical industry emission(9.89%), petrol evaporation(6.28%), and liquefied petroleum gas(LPG) usage(5.84%). Vehicle exhaust, solvent usage and combustion emission were found to be the top three VOC sources for O_3 formation potential, accounting for 34.52%, 16.55% and 11.94%, respectively. The diurnal variation of the total VOCs from each source could be well explained by their emission characteristics,e.g., the two peaks of VOC concentrations from LPG usage were in line with the cooking times for breakfast and lunch. Wind rose plots of the VOCs from each source could reveal the possible distribution of the sources around the monitoring site. | 3 | Hepatitis C Virus Infection Downregulates the Ligands of the Activating Receptor NKG2D显示文摘Natural killer (NK) cells are a major component of the host innate immune defense against various pathogens. Several viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV), have developed strategies to evade the NK-cell response. In our study, we found HCV infection could trigger DNA damage response by both ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) and ATM- and Rad3-related (ATR) pathways. Recent reports had revealed that NKG2D ligands (NK cell-activating ligands) were upregulated when a major DNA damage checkpoint pathway was activated. However, here we found that DNA damage response was activated but NKG2D ligands were downregulated upon HCV infection. Further studies showed that the protease NS3/4A of HCV which had been shown relation with immune invasion contributed to the reduced expression of NKG2D ligands. | 4 | Acupoint combinations used for treatment of Alzheimer's disease: A data mining analysis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To identify the acupoint combinations used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease(AD).METHODS: The clinical literature regarding acupuncture and moxibustion for AD was searched and collected from databases including Chinese Biomedical Medicine, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database and PubMed. The database of acupuncture and moxibustion prescriptions for AD was established by using Excel software so as to conduct the descriptive analysis, association analysis on the data.RESULTS: Baihui(GV 20), Sishencong(EX-HN 1),Shenmen(HT 7), Zusanli(ST 36), Neiguan(PC 6),Fengchi(GB 20), Taixi(KI 3), Dazhui(GV 14), Shenshu(BL 23), Sanyinjiao(SP 6), Shenting(GV 24), Fenglong(ST 40), Xuanzhong(GB 39), Shuigou(GV 26)and Taichong(LR 3) were of higher frequency in the treatment of AD with acupnucture and moxibustion. Most acupoints were selected from the Governor Vessel. The commonly used acupoints were located on the head, face, neck and lower limbs. The combination of the local acupoints with the distal ones was predominated. The crossing points among the specific points presented the advantage in the treatment. | 5 | Antimony transformation and mobilization from stibnite by an antimonite oxidizing bacterium Bosea sp. AS-1显示文摘Soils and waters are heavily contaminated by antimony in Xikuangshan(XKS)mine area.It is widely accepted that oxidative dissolution of sulfide minerals and aqueous dissolution are the most prevalent geochemical mechanisms for the release of Sb to the environment.Bosea sp.AS-1 is an antimonite-oxidizer isolated from the mine slag in Xikuangshan Sb mine.Whole genome sequencing revealed the presence of multiple sulfur-oxidizing genes,antimony(Sb)metabolism genes and carbon fixation genes in AS-1 s genome.We therefore hypothesized that under oxic conditions,AS-1 could mediate the oxidation of sulfide and Sb(Ⅲ)in stibnite(Sb_(2)S_(3))and lead to the release of Sb.Indeed,strain AS-1 was discovered as an autotrophic Sb(Ⅲ)-oxidizer.Antimony mobilization studies conducted with strain AS-1showed significantly enhanced mobilization of Sb,and complete oxidation of released Sb and sulfur to Sb(V)and sulfate.In addition,AS-1 induced a faster release of Sb under heterotrophic condition,and new acicular minerals might form.These findings support the hypothesis that microorganisms play an important role in the mobilization and transformation of Sb in XKS mine area and may contribute to our further understanding of the Sb biogeochemical redox cycle in natural environment. | Li Xiang Chaoyang Liu Deng Liu Liyuan Ma Xuan Qiu Hongmei Wang Xiaolu Lu | 2022 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,1: | 3 |
| 6 | Classification and influencing factors of rural elderly's vulnerability to health-related poverty in central and western regions of China显示文摘Objective:To calculate the health poverty vulnerability index of elderly households in rural areas of central and western China,and then to classify these samples,lastly to decompose their influencing factors.Methods:First,based on survey data in 2018,the three-stage feasible generalized least squares was used to calculate the health poverty vulnerability index of elderly households,and then combined with whether the household income was below the poverty line and whether the family was healthy poverty vulnerability,the sample households were divided into four categories,and then used multiple unordered logistic regression to analyze various types of influencing factors,and finally used the Shapley index to decompose the contribution of each influencing factor.Results:The average vulnerability of health poverty was 0.5979±0.25199,with 1169 households greater than or equal to 0.5,accounting for 63.26%;the number of households stuck in poverty,temporary poverty,potential poverty,and escaped from poverty were 489,300,680,and 379 households,accounting for 26.46%,16.23%,36.80%,and 20.51%of the total sample;compared with escaped from poverty families,the three variables of marital status,the number of chronically ill patients,and the number of annual hospitalizations were the common influencing factors of other three types families;The Shapley decomposition showed that the interviewees’education level and family members engaged in non-agricultural work have contributed significantly to the three types,however two indicators:time required to visit a medical institution and self-assessment of health status of the main interviewees showed great differences in different types of families.Conclusion:Rural elderly households have a high level of vulnerability to health poverty;potential poverty households and persistent poverty households account for a large proportion,and continuous intervention should be carried out;it is necessary to unify the implementation of basic poverty alleviation work,but also to enhance refined management capabilities and adopt differentiated intervention measures. | Qin Xiang Chaoyang Yan Ying Ma Hui Liao Jing Wang | 2021 | Global Health Journal2021,5,3: | 2 |

The emergence of multidrug-resistant(MDR) Gram-positive pathogens, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium(VRE), and β-lactamase-resistant Streptococcus pneumonia, has severely limited our antibiotic arsenal. Numerous ribosome-targeting antibiotics, especially pleuromutilins, oxazolidinones, and streptogramins, are viewed as promising alternatives against aggressive MDR pathogens. In this study, we identified a new adenosine triphosphate(ATP)-binding cassete(ABC)-F family determinant, srp A, in Streptococcus suis(S. suis) by means of a comparative analysis of the whole-genome sequences of tiamulin(TIA)-resistant and TIA-sensitive bacteria. Functional cloning confirmed that the deduced gene can mediate cross-resistance to pleuromutilins, lincosamides, and streptogramin A in S. suis and S. aureus. A sequence alignment revealed that Srp A shares the highest amino acid identity with Vga(E)(36%) and shows canonical characteristics of ABC-F family members.In Srp A-ribosome docked compounds, the extended loop region of Srp A approaches the valnemulinbinding pocket in the ribosome peptidyl-transferase center and competes with bound valnemulin. A detailed mutational analysis of the loop residues confirmed that this domain is crucial for Srp A activity,as substitutions or truncations of this region affect the efficiency and specificity of antibiotic resistance.Intracellular antibiotics accumulation indicated that Srp A does not act as an efflux pump, while a ribosome binding assay supported the protective effects of Srp A on the ribosome by preventing antibiotic binding as well as displacing bound drugs. | 17 | Large transverse thermoelectric figure of merit in a topological Dirac semimetal显示文摘The Seebeck effect encounters a few fundamental constraints hindering its thermoelectric(TE)conversion efficiency.Most notably,there are the charge compensation of electrons and holes that diminishes this effect,and the Wiedemann-Franz(WF)law that makes independent optimization of the corresponding electrical and thermal conductivities impossible.Here,we demonstrate that in the topological Dirac semimetal Cd3As2 the Nernst effect,i.e.,the transverse counterpart of the Seebeck effect,can generate a large TE figure of merit zNT.At room temperature,zNT≈0.5 in a small field of 2 T and it significantly surmounts its longitudinal counterpart for any field.A large Nernst effect is generically expected in topological semimetals,benefiting from both the bipolar transport of compensated electrons and holes and their high mobilities.In this case,heat and charge transport are orthogonal,i.e.,not intertwined by the WF law anymore.More importantly,further optimization of zNT by tuning the Fermi level to the Dirac node can be anticipated due to not only the enhanced bipolar transport,but also the anomalous Nernst effect arising from a pronounced Berry curvature.A combination of the topologically trivial and nontrivial advantages promises to open a new avenue towards high-efficient transverse thermoelectricity. | JunSen Xiang SiLe Hu Meng Lyu WenLiang Zhu ChaoYang Ma ZiYu Chen Frank Steglich GenFu Chen PeiJie Sun | 2020 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,3: | 0 |
| 18 | Are our clone detectors good enough?An empirical study of code effects by obfuscation显示文摘Clone detection has received much attention in many fields such as malicious code detection,vulnerability hunting,and code copyright infringement detection.However,cyber criminals may obfuscate code to impede violation detection.To date,few studies have investigated the robustness of clone detectors,especially in-fashion deep learning-based ones,against obfuscation.Meanwhile,most of these studies only measure the difference between one code snippet and its obfuscation version.However,in reality,the attackers may modify the original code before obfuscating it.Then what we should evaluate is the detection of obfuscated code from cloned code,not the original code.For this,we conduct a comprehensive study evaluating 3 popular deep-learning based clone detectors and 6 commonly used traditional ones.Regarding the data,we collect 6512 clone pairs of five types from the dataset BigCloneBench and obfuscate one program of each pair via 64 strategies of 6 state-of-art commercial obfuscators.We also collect 1424 non-clone pairs to evaluate the false positives.In sum,a benchmark of 524,148 code pairs(either clone or not)are generated,which are passed to clone detectors for evaluation.To automate the evaluation,we develop one uniform evaluation framework,integrating the clone detectors and obfuscators.The results bring us interesting findings on how obfuscation affects the performance of clone detection and what is the difference between traditional and deep learning-based clone detectors.In addition,we conduct manual code reviews to uncover the root cause of the phenomenon and give suggestions to users from different perspectives. | Weihao Huang Guozhu Meng Chaoyang Lin Qiucun Yan Kai Chen Zhuo Ma | 2023 | Cybersecurity2023,6,4: | 0 |
