1Toxicity of graphene oxide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes against human cells and zebrafish显示文摘Graphene possesses unique physical and chemical properties, which have inspired a wide range of potential biomedical applications. However, little is known about the adverse effects of graphene on the human body and ecological environment. The purpose of our work is to make assessment on the toxicity of graphene oxide (GO) against human cell line (human bone marrow neuroblastoma cell line and human epithelial carcinoma cell line) and zebrafish (Danio rerio) by comparing the toxic effects of GO with its sister, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). The results show that GO has a moderate toxicity to organisms since it can induce minor (about 20%) cell growth inhibition and slight hatching delay of zebrafish embryos at a dosage of 50 mg/L, but did not result in significant increase of apoptosis in embryo, while MWNTs exhibit acute toxicity leading to a strong inhibition of cell proliferation and serious morphological defects in developing embryos even at relatively low concentration of 25 mg/L. The distinctive toxicity of GO and MWNTs should be ascribed to the different models of interaction between nanomaterials and organisms, which arises from the different geometric structures of nanomaterials. 2Chloro-free synthesis of LiPF_(6)using the fluorine-oxygen exchange technique显示文摘A hydrogen fluoride-free and chloro-free method for synthesizing LiPF_(6) was developed.Employing CaF_(2) as the direct fluorinating reagent instead of hydrogen fluoride made it much safer and more environmentfriendly than conventional methods and reduced the metal residues in product owing to the relatively low-acid reaction conditions less corrosive to equipments.The use of P_(2)O_(5) as phosphorus source instead of traditionally employed PCl_(5) significantly reduced the chloro residue in product.Ca(H_(2)PO_(4))_(2),the only by-product of the process,could be easily converted into Ca_(3)(PO_(4))_(2),a best-selling chemical.The above advantages not only reduce the production costs by ca.20%,but also significantly improve the product purity.The fluorine-oxygen exchange reaction is a completely new technique for LiPF_(6) production and may bring about technological revolution in the related industry.Jian Liu Yuanli Cai Huan Pang Bin Cao Chengzhi Luo Zhenghao Hu Chaoqun Xiao Hu Zhang Fulu Lv Yitao Cao Lei Yu 2022Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,8:1
3Electric-field-induced microstructure modulation of carbon nanotubes for high-performance supercapacitors显示文摘The growth direction,morphology and microstructure of carbon nano-tubes(CNTs)play key roles for their potential applications in electronic and energy storage devices.However,effective synthesis of CNTs in high crystallinity and desired microstructure still remains a tremendous challenge.Here we introduce an electric field for controlling the microstructure formation of CNTs.It reveals that the electric field not only make CNTs aligned parallel but also improve the density of CNTs.Especially,the microstructures of CNTs gradually change under electrical field.That is,graphite sheets are transformed from the'herringbone'structure to a highly crystalline structure,facilitating the transportation of electrons.Due to the improved aligned growth direction,high density and highly crystalline microstructure,the electrochemical performance of CNTs is greatly improved.When the CNTs are applied in supercapacitors,they present a high specific capacitance of 237 F/g,three times higher than that of the CNTs prepared without electrical field.Such microstructure modulation of CNTs by electric field would help to construct high performance electronic and energy storage devices.Chengzhi LUO Guanghui LIU Min ZHANG 2019Frontiers of Materials Science2019,13,3:1
4Optimized optical design of thin-film transistor arrays for high transmittance and excellent chromaticity显示文摘Transmittance and chromaticity are essential requirements for optical performance of thin-film transistor(TFT)arrays.However,it is still a challenge to get high transmittance and excellent chromaticity at the same time.In this paper,optimized optical design by using antireflection film theory and optical phase modulation is demonstrated in low temperature poly-silicon(LTPS)TFT arrays.To realize high transmittance,the refractive index difference of adjacent films is modified by using silicon oxynitride(SiOxNy)with adjustable refractive index.To realize excellent chromaticity,the thicknesses of multilayer films are precisely regulated for antireflection of certain wavelength light.The results show that the transmittance and chromaticity have been improved by about 6%and 18‰,respectively,at the same time,which is a big step forward for high optical performance of TFT arrays.The device characteristics of the TFT arrays with the optimal design,such as threshold voltage and electron mobility,are comparable to those of conventional TFT arrays.The optimized optical design results in enhanced power-conversion efficiencies and perfects the multilayer film design on the basic theory,which has great practicability to be applied in TFT arrays.Chengzhi Luo Shiyu Long Guanghui Liu Cooper Min Zhang Fei Ai 2020Frontiers of Materials Science2020,14,1:0

6Selectivity of biopolymer membranes using HepG2 cells显示文摘Bioartificial liver(BAL)system has emerged as an alternative treatment to bridge acute liver failure to either liver transplantation or liver regeneration.One of the main reasons that the efficacy of the current BAL systems was not convincing in clinical trials is attributed to the lack of friendly interface between the membrane and the hepatocytes in liver bioreactor,the core unit of BAL system.Here,we systematically compared the biological responses of hepatosarcoma HepG2 cells seeded on eight,commercially available biocompatible membranes made of acetyl cellulose–nitrocellulose mixed cellulose(CA–NC),acetyl cellulose(CA),nylon(JN),polypropylene(PP),nitrocellulose(NC),polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF),polycarbonate(PC)and polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE).Physicochemical analysis and mechanical tests indicated that CA,JN and PP membranes yield high adhesivity and reasonable compressive and/or tensile features with friendly surface topography for cell seeding.Cells prefer to adhere on CA,JN,PP or PTFE membranes with high proliferation rate in spheriod-like shape.Actin,albumin and cytokeratin 18 expressions are favorable for cells on CA or PP membrane,whereas protein filtration is consistent among all the eight membranes.These results further the understandings of cell growth,morphology and spreading,as well as protein filtration on distinct membranes in designing a liver bioreactor.Dongyuan Lü Yuxin Gao Chunhua Luo Shouqian Lü Qian Wang Xianghong Xu Shujin Sun Chengzhi Wang Mian Long 2015Regenerative Biomaterials2015,2,1:0
7Deposition processes of gas hydrate-bearing sediments in the inter-canyon area of Shenhu Area in the northern South China Sea显示文摘The Shenhu Submarine Canyon Group on the northern slope of the South China Sea consists of 17 slope-confined canyons,providing a good example for investigating their hosting sediments.Three drilling sites,including W07,W18,and W19,have proven the occurrence of gas hydrate reservoirs in the inter-canyon area between canyons C11 and C12.Whereas,variations of the geomorphology and seismic facies analyzed by high-resolution 3D seismic data indicate that the gas hydrate-bearing sediments may form in different sedimentary processes.In the upper segment,a set of small-scale channels with obvious topographic lows can be identified,revealing fine-grained turbidites supplied from the shelf region during a very short-term sea-level lowstand.In the middle part,gas hydrate units at Site W07 showing mounded or undulation external configuration are interpreted as sliding sedimentary features,and those features caused by gravity destabilization were the main formative mechanism of gas hydrate-bearing sediments that were sourced from the upper segments.In contrast,for the canyon transition zone of lower segments between C11-C12 inter-canyon and C12 intra-canyon areas,where W18 and W19 sites are located,the gas hydratebearing sediments are deposited in the channelized feature in the middle to lower segment and slide erosive surface.Gas hydrate-bearing sediments of the lower segment were migrated through channelized features interconnecting with the middle to lower slope by gravity-driven flows.The majority of deposits tended to be furtherly moved by lateral migration via erosive surface created by sediment failed to intra-canyon area.The conclusion of this study may help better understand the interaction between the formation mechanism of gas hydrate-bearing sediments and the geomorphologic effects of inter-canyon areas.Zhixuan LIN Ming SU Haiteng ZHUO Pibo SU Jinqiang LIANG Feifei WANG Chengzhi YANG Kunwen LUO 2023Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2023,41,2:0
8“Phase Diagram” of Surface Temperature Distribution of Sessile Droplets and the Effects of Evaporative Cooling显示文摘The temperature distribution along the surface of evaporating droplets can affect significantly the flow field inside the liquid and consequently the deposition pattern on the substrate. Although a “phase diagram” for the temperature distribution along the droplet surface was revealed by the numerical simulations, its experimental verification has still not been reported. In this paper, the surface temperature of evaporating droplets has been observed by using an infrared (IR) camera. The experimental observations show that three different patterns of temperature distribution along the droplet surface occur in succession with the change of the contact angle during the evaporation process, which is in good agreement with the theoretical predictions by the “phase diagram” of the surface temperature distribution. Furthermore, the effects of evaporative cooling on the “phase diagram” of sessile droplets have been explored. The numerical results indicate that the evaporative cooling effect can alter the size of the phase regions in the “phase diagram”.
