Combined Pollution and Pollution Index of Heavy Metals in Red Soil显示文摘A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn and As coexisting in red soilon growth of rice (Oryza sativa L.), mung bean (Vigna rabiata (Linn.) Wilczek), alfalfa (Medicago sativaL.), slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm.) and aspen (Populus L.). Results showed that rice, mung bean andalfalfa were significantly innuenced by combined pollution of the heavy metals. The contents of Pb, cd andAs in rice grains greatly exceeded the National Standards for Food Hygiene of China. Heavy metals at ahigh concentration seriously retarded growth of mung bean and alfalfa, but not so obviously with slash pineand aspen. The composite index is suggested for evaluating the relativity of combined pollution witll heavymetals in soil. | CHEN HUAIMAN ZHENG CHUNRONG WANG SHENQIANG and TU CONG(Institute of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, P.O. | 2 | Enhanced allelopathy and competitive ability of invasive plant Solidago canadensis in its introduced range显示文摘Aims Why invasive plants are more competitive in their introduced range than native range is still an unanswered question in plant invasion ecology. Here,we used the model invasive plant Solidago canaden-sis to test a hypothesis that enhanced production of allelopathic compounds results in greater competitive ability of invasive plants in the invaded range rather than in the native range. We also exam-ined the degree to which the allelopathy contributes increased com-petitive ability of S.canadensis in the invaded range. Methods We compared allelochemical production by S.canadensis growing in its native area(the USA)and invaded area(China)and also by populations that were collected from the two countries and grown together in a'common garden'greenhouse experiment. We also tested the allelopathic effects of S.canadensis collected from either the USA or China on the germination of Kummerowia striata(a native plant in China). Finally,we conducted a common garden, greenhouse experiment in which K.striata was grown in monocul-ture or with S.canadensis from the USA or China to test the effects of allopathy on plant-plant competition with suitable controls such as adding activated carbon to the soil to absorb the allelochemicals and thereby eliminating any corresponding allopathic effects.Important findings Allelochemical contents(total phenolics, total flavones and total saponins)and allelopathic effects were greater in S.canadensis sampled from China than those from the USA as demonstrated in a field survey and a common garden experiment.Inhibition of K.stri-ata germination using S.canadensis extracts or previously grown in soil was greater using samples from China than from the USA.The competitive ability of S.canadensis against K.striata was also greater for plants originating from China than those from the USA.Allelopathy could explain about 46%of the difference. These find-ings demonstrated that S.canadensis has evolved to be more allelo-pathic and competitive in the introduced range and that allelopathy significantly contributes to increased competitiveness for this inva-sive species. | Yongge Yuan Bing Wang Shanshan Zhang Jianjun Tang Cong Tu Shuijin Hu Jean W.H.Yong Xin Chen | 2013 | Journal of Plant Ecology2013,6,3: | 15

Speciation and fractionation of heavy metals in soil experimentally contaminated with Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn together and effects on soil negative surface charge显示文摘Speciation and fractionation of heavy metals in soil subsamples experimentally loaded with Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn in orthogonal design was investigated by sequential extraction, and operationally defined as water soluble and exchangeable(SE), weakly specific adsorbed(WSA), Fe and Mn oxides bound(OX) and organic bound(ORG). The results showed that fractions of heavy metals in the soil subsamples depended on their speciation. About 90% of Cd and 75% of Zn existed in soil subsamples in the SE fraction. Lead and Cu existed in soil subsamples as SE, WSA and OX fractions simultaneously, although SE was still the major fraction. Organic bound heavy metals were not clearly apparent in all the soil subsamples. The concentration of some heavy metal fractions in soil subsamples showed the good correlation with ionic impulsion of soil, especially for the SE fraction. Continuous saturation of soil subsamples with 0.20 mol/L NH 4Cl, which is the first step for determination of the negative surface charge of soil by the ion retention method, resulted in desorption of certain heavy metals from the soil. It was found that the percentage desorption of heavy metals from soil subsamples depended greatly on pH, the composition and original heavy metal content of the soil subsamples. However, most of the heavy metals in the soil subsamples were still be retained after multiple saturation. Compared with the parent soil, the negative surface charge of soil subsamples loaded with heavy metals did not show difference significantly from that of the parent one by statistical analysis. Heavy metals existed in the soil subsamples mainly as exchangeable and precipitated simultaneously. | ZHOU Dong mei, HAO Xiu zhen, TU Cong, CHEN Huai man, SI You bin (Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210008, China. ) | 2002 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2002,14,4: | 10

Effect of Heavy Metals on Phosphorus Retention by Typic Udic Ferrisols: Equilibrium and Kinetics显示文摘A study was conducted to examine the effect of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd in combination or alone) on the equilibrium and kinetics of phosphorus (P) retention in typic udic ferrisols by using both equilibrium and flow techniques. Fourteen soil samples with varying artificial contamination of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd were prepared. Heavy metal pollution led to increases in retention capacity and maximum buffering capacity (MBC) of soil P. The rate of P retention was also increased and the time to reach equilibrium was advanced by heavy metals addition. The Elovich equation provided a satisfactory description of the P kinetic data. The influence of heavy metals on P retention was in the order of Pb>Cu>Zn, with greater effect in multiple metal pollution. These findings suggested that heavy metal pollution caused an increase in P fixation and thus a decline in P availability. Therefore, indirect influences of heavy metal contamination on soil nutrients may need more consideration when determining overall impact of heavy metals on soil environment. | TU CONG, ZHENG CHUNRONG and CHEN HUAIMAN LMCP, Institute of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, P.O. | 7 | In vitro and in silico analysis of dual-function peptides derived from casein hydrolysate显示文摘There is no study on food-derived peptide with both anticoagulant and angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibitory (ACEI) activities yet. In this work, the anticoagulant and ACEI activities of the casein hydrolysates released by pepsin digestion were evaluated for the first time to the best of our knowledge. Results indicated that the casein hydrolysate exhibited potent anticoagulant activity by prolonging the thrombin time (TT) and the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). Compared with control samples, at 10 mg/mL, the TT and APTT of casein hydrolysate were 186.0 % ± 6.6 % and 163.5 % ± 7.4 %, respectively. The casein hydrolysate also showed a strong ACEI activity with an IC50 value of 1.775 mg/mL. The components of the bioactive casein hydrolysate were analyzed by nanoscale liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (NanoLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS). Total of 115 peptides were identified, among which 34, 9, 55 and 17 peptides were derived from α_(s1-), α_(s2-), β-, and κ-casein, respectively. The results of PeptideRanker and PepSite 2 analysis showed that 6 peptides (FRQFYQL, NENLLRF, NPWDQVKR, PVVVPPFLQ, PVRGPFPIIV, and ARHPHPHLSF) have both ACEI and anticoagulant activities by binding to the active sites of ACE and thrombin. This study indicated that casein is a potential functional food supplement that can be used for medical purposes. | Maolin Tu Xinyu Qiao Cong Wang Hanxiong Liu Shuzhen Cheng Zhe Xu Ming Du | 2021 | Food Science and Human Wellness2021,10,1: | 4

Antibiotics and immunotherapy in gastrointestinal tumors: Friend or foe?显示文摘The incidence of gastrointestinal (GI) tumors is increasing year by year, and its pathogenesis is closely related to the intestinal flora. At present, the use of antibiotics is very common in the clinic. And cancer patients with low immunity are vulnerable to all sorts of infections, such as respiratory tract infections and urinary tract infections. Moreover, cancer patients easily run into fever and neutropenia induced by myelosuppression. Therefore, antibiotics are used extensively and even overused in many conditions. However, because of the special anatomical location of the gastrointestinal tract, the antibiotic usage will bring changes to the intestinal flora. Besides, with the expanding popularity of immunotherapy, various factors affecting the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been extensively explored, including cancer-associated inflammation and the local and systemic factors that lead to immunosuppression. Some biomarkers for ICIs, including the expression of PD-L1, tumor mutation load, and microbiota, also have been investigated, and many studies have confirmed that gut microbiota can affect the efficacy of immunotherapy. But further studies on the influence of antibiotics directly on immunotherapy are rare. In this review, we discuss the relationship between GI tumors and antibiotics, the current status of immunotherapy in GI tumors, and the influence of antibiotics on immunotherapy. | Cong Yan Xiao-Xuan Tu Wei Wu Zhou Tong Lu-Lu Liu Yi Zheng Wei-Qin Jiang Peng Zhao Wei-Jia Fang Hang-Yu Zhang | 2019 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,11: | 2

Hybrid gelatin/oxidized chondroitin sulfate hydrogels incorporating bioactive glass nanoparticles with enhanced mechanical properties, mineralization, and osteogenic differentiation显示文摘Biopolymer based hydrogels are characteristic of their biocompatibility and capability of mimicking extracellular matrix structure to support cellular behavior. However, these hydrogels suffer from low mechanical properties, uncontrolled degradation, and insufficient osteogenic activity, which limits their applications in bone regeneration. In this study,we developed hybrid gelatin(Gel)/oxidized chondroitin sulfate(OCS)hydrogels that incorporated mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles(MBGNs)as bioactive fillers for bone regeneration.Gel-OCS hydrogels could be self-crosslinked in situ under physiological conditions in the presence of borax. The incorporation of MBGNs enhanced the crosslinking and accelerated the gelation. The gelation time decreased with increasing the concentration of MBGNs added.Incorporation of MBGNs in the hydrogels significantly improved the mechanical properties in terms of enhanced storage modulus and compressive strength. The injectability of the hydrogels was not significantly affected by the MBGN incorporation. Also, the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in vitro and rat cranial defect restoration in vivo were significantly promoted by the hydrogels in the presence of MBGNs.The hybrid Gel-OCS/MBGN hydrogels show promising potential as injectable biomaterials or scaffolds for bone regeneration/repair applications given their tunable degradation and gelation behavior as well as favorable mechanical behavior and osteogenic activities. | Lei Zhou Lei Fan Feng-Miao Zhang Yuhe Jiang Min Cai Cong Dai Yi-An Luo Ling-Jie Tu Zheng-Nan Zhou Xiao-Jun Li Cheng-Yun Ning Kai Zheng Aldo R.Boccaccini Guo-Xin Tan | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,3: | 1

Environment-friendly Insulating Gases for HVDC Gas-insulated Transmission Lines显示文摘Environment-friendly gas insulating mediums adapted to a DC gas-insulated transmission line(GIL)electric field condition is the key to the next generation of Environment-friendly HVDC GILs.In this paper,we review the literature on sulfur hexafluoride(SF6)alternatives including the scientific understanding, control, and implementation of gas-solid systems in this type of power transmission.First, the structure-activity relationship between the molecular structure and physico-chemical properties of Environment-friendly insulating gases is presented. Then, the search and prediction of important physicochemical properties of gases are summarized.Subsequently,in view of the potential of environmental friendly insulating gases, the swarm parameters of gas discharge and breakdown properties in a quasi-uniform field, inhomogeneous field, and at the gas-solid interface, that need to be taken into account with industrialized DC GILs are discussed. The latest research progress on insulation characteristics, especially the polarity effect in DC gas-solid insulation systems, the sensitivity to the electrode surface state, and the non-uniformity of the electric field, and the influence of metal particles and their variation with air pressure,is highlighted. In addition, the heat transfer characteristics of insulating gases, related to DC GIL transmission with a large current-carrying capacity and the influence of alternative gases on the heat transfer characteristics are described. Finally, aiming at solving the contradiction of low environmental impact, high dielectric strength and low liquefaction temperatures in the selection of alternative gases,an coordinated regulation model for Environment-friendly gases in DC GILs is established.Considerations for future work on this topic are also presented. | Geng Chen Youping Tu Cong Wang Jue Wang Zhikang Yuan Guoming Ma Jian Wang Bo Qi Chuanyang Li | 2021 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2021,7,3: | 1
