1In vivo theranostics with near-infraredemitting carbon dots—highly efficient photothermal therapy based on passive targeting after intravenous administration显示文摘Carbon dots that exhibit near-infrared fluorescence(NIR CDs)are considered emerging nanomaterials for advanced biomedical applications with low toxicity and superior photostability and targeting compared to currently used photoluminescence agents.Despite progress in the synthesis of NIR CDs,there remains a key obstacle to using them as an in vivo theranostic agent.This work demonstrates that the newly developed sulfur and nitrogen codoped NIR CDs are highly efficient in photothermal therapy(PTT)in mouse models(conversion efficiency of 59%)and can be readily visualized by photoluminescence and photoacoustic imaging.The real theranostic potential of NIR CDs is enhanced by their unique biodistribution and targeting.Contrary to all other nanomaterials that have been tested in biomedicine,they are excreted through the body’s renal filtration system.Moreover,after intravenous injection,NIR CDs are accumulated in tumor tissue via passive targeting,without any active species such as antibodies.Due to their accumulation in tumor tissue without the need for intratumor injection,high photothermal conversion,excellent optical and photoacoustic imaging performance,and renal excretion,the developed CDs are suitable for transfer to clinical biomedical practice.Xin Bao Ye Yuan Jingqin Chen Bohan Zhang Di Li Ding Zhou Pengtao Jing Guiying Xu Yingli Wang Kateřina Holá Dezhen Shen Changfeng Wu Liang Song Chengbo Liu Radek Zbořil Songnan Qu 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:13

5Source and composition of sedimentary organic matter in the head of Three Gorges Reservoir: a multiproxy approach using δ^(13)C,lignin phenols, and lipid biomarker analyses显示文摘A multiproxy approach including bulk organic carbon, δ^(13) C, lignin phenols, and lipid biomarker analyses were applied to characterize the source and composition of sedimentary organic matter in the head part of Three Gorges Reservoir. OM consisted of both natural(autochthonous and allochthonous) and anthropogenic inputs.The natural OM included input from vascular plants,especially non-woody angiosperms. The allochthonous input included plankton and microbial production, likely due to localized eutrophication. 8Rice(Oryza sativa L.)seedlings enriched with zinc or manganese:Their impacts on cadmium accumulation and expression of related genes显示文摘Cadmium(Cd)contamination in paddy soils means that the rice produced there may be unsafe for human consumption.A hydroponic study was conducted to enrich rice seedlings with zinc(Zn)or manganese(Mn),and the uptake and transport characteristics of Cd in these Zn-and Mn-rich seedlings were subsequently investigated using a greenhouse pot trial.The results showed that hydroponic cultivation in 10-50μmol L^(-1) Zn(ZnSO_(4)·7 H_(2)O)or50-250μmol L^(-1) Mn(MnSO_(4)·H_(2)O)for 30 d had no significant impact on rice growth,while the accumulation of Zn and Mn was 7.31-18.5 and 25.4-47.7 times higher,respectively,than in the control(no Zn or Mn addition).The accumulation of Cd in the Zn-and Mn-rich rice plants was 26.3%-38.6% and 34.4%-44.5% lower than that in the control,respectively,and the translocation factors of Cd from roots to shoots also decreased by 23.3%-41.3% and 25.3%-37.0%,respectively,after transplanting to Cd-contaminated soils.Furthermore,the relative expression levels of OsIRT1(Oryza sativa iron-regulated transporter 1)were downregulated by 40.1%-59.3% and 16.0%-25.9%,respectively,in the Zn-and Mn-rich seedling roots.This downregulation may indicate a possible mechanism contributing to the reductions in Cd absorption.Field experiments confirmed that the Zn-and Mn-rich seedlings produced brown rice(unpolished rice grains)with significantly decreased concentrations of Cd(34.2%-44.4%).This study provides an innovative method for reducing the food safety risks from rice grown on slightly to moderately Cd-contaminated paddy soils.Gaoxiang HUANG Changfeng DING Yibing MA Yurong WANG Zhigao ZHOU Shun'an ZHENG Xingxiang WANG 2021Pedosphere2021,31,6:2

14Dynamic crushingof cellular materials: a particle velocity-based analytical method and its application显示文摘Cellular material under high-velocity impacthas a typical feature oflayer-wise collapse.A cell-based finite element model is employed to simulate the direct impact of closed-cell foam, and one-dimensional velocity field distributionsareobtained to characterize thecrushing bandpropagating through a cellular material. An explicit expression of continuous velocity distribution is derivedbased on the features of velocity gradient distribution. The velocity distribution function is adopted to determine the dynamic stress-strain statesof cellular materials under dynamic loading.The local stress-strain history distribution reveals that sectional cells experience a process from the precursor of elastic behavior to the shock stress state, through the dynamic initial crushing state. A power-law relation between the dynamic initial crushing stress andthe strainrate isestablished, which confirms the strain-rate effect of cellular materials. By extracting the critical points immediately before the unloading stage on the local dynamic stress-strain history curves, the dynamic stress-strain statesof cellular materials are determined. They exhibit loading rate-dependence but are independent of the initial impact velocity.Furthermore, with the increase of relative density, the dynamic hardening behaviorof cellular specimen is enhanced and the crushing process event is advanced. 19A comparative study of preventing postoperative tendon adhesion using electrospun polyester membranes with different degradation kinetics显示文摘Complications arising from tendon injury include tendon sheath infection and peritendinous adhesion, in which tendon adhesion often leads to serious motor dysfunction. In this work, the electrospun membranes of poly(L-lactide)(PLA) and poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL) with different degradation kinetics were used to investigate their efficacy for anti-adhesion toward Achilles tendon repair. Compared with the PCL membrane, the PLA sample showed a faster rate of degradation in 42 d, and all the degradation media(i.e., phosphate-buffered saline) maintained at a constant p H of around 7.4. Meanwhile, the superior biocompatibility of both the PLA and PCL membranes were proved by the in vitro cellular adhesion tests and in vivo histopathological assays. Simultaneously, the PLA membrane was more effective than the PCL sample in decreasing adhesion and promoting functional recovery. Furthermore, the experiment result was further confirmed by hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining, and type I collagen immunohistochemical analysis. All results revealed that the model treated with the electrospun PLA membrane was obviously better with regard to both anti-adhesion and tendon repair than that in the PCL membrane group.
