1Catalytic conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into chemicals and fuels显示文摘In the search of alternative resources to make commodity chemicals and transportation fuels for a low carbon future, lignocellulosic biomass with over 180-billion-ton annual production rate has been identified as a promising feedstock. This review focuses on the state-of-the-art catalytic transformation of lignocellulosic biomass into value-added chemicals and fuels.Following a brief introduction on the structure, major resources and pretreatment methods of lignocellulosic biomass, the catalytic conversion of three main components,i.e.,cellulose,hemicellulose and lignin, into various compounds are comprehensively discussed.Either in separate steps or in one-pot,cellulose and hemicellulose are hydrolyzed into sugars and upgraded into oxygen-containing chemicals such as 5-HMF,furfural,polyols,and organic acids,or even nitrogen-containing chemicals such as amino acids. On the other hand, lignin is first depolymerized into phenols, catechols, guaiacols, aldehydes and ketones, and then further transformed into hydrocarbon fuels, bioplastic precursors and bioactive compounds. The review then introduces the transformations of whole biomass via catalytic gasification, catalytic pyrolysis,as well as emerging strategies. Finally, opportunities, challenges and prospective of woody biomass valorization are highlighted.Weiping Deng Yunchao Feng Jie Fu Haiwei Guo Yong Guo Buxing Han Zhicheng Jiang Lingzhao Kong Changzhi Li Haichao Liu Phuc T.T.Nguyen Puning Ren Feng Wang Shuai Wang Yanqin Wang Ye Wang Sie Shing Wong Kai Yan Ning Yan Xiaofei Yang Yuanbao Zhang Zhanrong Zhang Xianhai Zeng Hui Zhou 2023Green Energy & Environment2023,8,1:6
22.5-Dimensional Parylene C micropore array with a large area and a high porosity for high-throughput particle and cell separation显示文摘Large-area micropore arrays with a high porosity are in high demand because of their promising potential in liquid biopsy with a large volume of clinical sample. However,a micropore array with a large area and a high porosity faces a serious mechanical strength challenge. The filtration membrane may undergo large deformation at a high filtration throughput, which will decrease its size separation accuracy. In this work,a keyhole-free Parylene molding process has been developed to prepare a large(>20 mm×20 mm)filtration membrane containing a 2.5-dimensional(2.5D)micropore array with an ultra-high porosity(up to 91.37% with designed pore diameter/space of 100μm/4μm).The notation 2.5D indicates that the large area and the relatively small thickness(approximately 10μm)of the fabricated membranes represent 2D properties, while the large thickness-to-width ratio(10μm/<4μm)of the spaces between the adjacent pores corresponds to a local 3D feature. The large area and high porosity of the micropore array achieved filtration with a throughput up to 180 mL/min(PBS solution)simply driven by gravity.Meanwhile, the high mechanical strength, benefiting from the 2.5D structure of the micropore array, ensured a negligible pore size variation during the high-throughput filtration, thereby enabling high size resolution separation, which was proven by single-layer and multi-layer filtrations for particle separation.Furthermore,as a preliminary demonstration, the prepared 2.5-dimensional Parylene C micropore array was implemented as an efficient filter for rare cancer cell separation from a large volume, approximately 10 cells in 10 mL PBS and undiluted urine, with high recovery rates of 87±13% and 56±13%,respectively.Yaoping Liu Han Xu Wangzhi Dai Haichao Li Wei Wang 2018Microsystems & Nanoengineering2018,4,1:2
3miR-140-3p enhanced the osteo/odontogenic differentiation of DPSCs via inhibiting KMT5B under hypoxia condition显示文摘Human dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs)have emerged as an important source of stem cells in the tissue engineering, and hypoxia will change various innate characteristics of DPSCs and then affect dental tissue regeneration.Nevertheless, little is known about the complicated molecular mechanisms. In this study,we aimed to investigate the influence and mechanism of miR-140-3p on DPSCs under hypoxia condition.Hypoxia was induced in DPSCs by Cobalt chloride(CoCl_(2))treatment.The osteo/dentinogenic differentiation capacity of DPSCs was assessed by alkaline phosphatase(ALP)activity,Alizarin Red S staining and main osteo/dentinogenic markers.A luciferase reporter gene assay was performed to verify the downstream target gene of miR-140-3p.This research exhibited that miR-140-3p promoted osteo/dentinogenic differentiation of DPSCs under normoxia environment.Furthermore,miR-140-3p rescued the CoCl_(2)-induced decreased osteo/odontogenic differentiation potentials in DPSCs.Besides,we investigated that miR-140-3p directly targeted lysine methyltransferase 5B(KMT5B).Surprisingly,we found inhibition of KMT5B obviously enhanced osteo/dentinogenic differentiation of DPSCs both under normoxia and hypoxia conditions. In conclusion, our study revealed the role and mechanism of miR-140-3p for regulating osteo/dentinogenic differentiation of DPSCs under hypoxia, and discovered that miR-140-3p and KMT5B might be important targets for DPSC-mediated tooth or bone tissue regeneration.Han Zheng Ning Wang Le Li Lihua Ge Haichao Jia Zhipeng Fan 2021International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,4:2
4PROJECTION BASED STATISTICAL FEATURE EXTRACTION WITH MULTISPECTRAL IMAGES AND ITS APPLICATIONS ON THE YELLOW RIVER MAINSTREAM LINE DETECTION显示文摘Mainstream line is significant for the Yellow River situation forecasting and flood control. An effective statistical feature extraction method is proposed in this paper. In this method, a between-class scattering matrix based projection algorithm is performed to maximize between-class differences, obtaining effective component for classification;then high-order statistics are utilized as the features to describe the mainstream line in the principal component obtained.Experiments are performed to verify the applicability of the algorithm. The results both on synthesized and real scenes indicate that this approach could extract the mainstream line of the Yellow River automatically, and has a high precision in mainstream line detection.Zhang Yanning Zhang Haichao Duan Feng Liu Xuegong Han Lin 2009Journal of Electronics(China)2009,26,3:1

8Chitosan derived carbon membranes as protective layers on zinc anodes for aqueous zinc batteries显示文摘Aqueous zinc batteries with low cost and inherent safety are considered to be the most promising energy storage devices. However, they suffer from poor cycling stability and low coulombic efficiencies caused by the adverse zinc dendrites on the anodes during the discharging/charging processes.Chitosan is a kind of natural amino polysaccharide, which is rich in nitrogen and carbon. When sintered at high temperatures, carbon membranes have been achieved with excellent conductivity and graphitization degree, which could enhance the ability to induce zinc ion uniform deposition to some extent. In this work,a type of carbon membrane using chitosan as raw materials has been fabricated by sintering, and then assembled as the protect layers in aqueous zinc batteries. The results show that the samples could retain smoother surfaces when adopting the sintering temperature of 800℃,and the assembled batteries are able to achieve about 700 h at a current density of 0.25m A·cm^(-2),which is far longer than those of the similar batteries without any carbon membranes.Haichao Li Zengwu Wei Yu Xia Junshan Han Xing Li 2023International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2023,30,4:0
9Two-channel model based adaptive schlieren detection algorithm for BOS system显示文摘A schlieren detection algorithm is proposed for the ground-to-air background oriented schlieren(BOS) system to achieve high-speed airplane shock waves visualization. The proposed method consists of three steps. Firstly, image registration is incorporated for reducing errors caused by the camera motion. Then, the background subtraction dual-model single Gaussian model(BS-DSGM) is proposed to build a precise background model. The BS-DSGM could prevent the background model from being contaminated by the shock waves. Finally, the twodimensional orthogonal discrete wavelet transformation is used to extract schlieren information and averaging schlieren data. Experimental results show our proposed algorithm is able to detect the aircraft in-flight and to extract the schlieren information. The precision of schlieren detection algorithm is 0.96. Three image quality evaluation indices are chosen for quantitative analysis of the shock waves visualization. The white Gaussian noise is added in the frames to validate the robustness of the proposed algorithm. Moreover, we adopt two times and four times down sampling to simulate different imaging distances for revealing how the imaging distance affects the schlieren information in the BOS system.LIU Han ZHANG Yanmei ZHAO Baojun GUO Haichao ZHAO Boya 2019Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2019,30,2:0
10Increased mtDNA mutation frequency in oocytes causes epigenetic alterations and embryonic defects显示文摘Mitochondria are essential for female reproductive processes, yet the function of mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA)mutation in oocytes remains elusive.By employing an mtDNA mutator(Polgm)mouse model,we found the fetal growth retardation and placental dysfunction in post-implantation embryos derived from Polgm oocytes.Remarkably,Polgm oocytes displayed the global loss of DNA methylation;following fertilization, zygotic genome experienced insufficient demethylation, along with dysregulation of gene expression.Spindle–chromosome exchange experiment revealed that cytoplasmic factors in Polgm oocytes are responsible for such a deficient epigenetic remodeling. Moreover, metabolomic profiling identified a significant reduction in the α-ketoglutarate(αKG)level in oocytes from Polgm mice.Importantly,αKG supplement restored both DNA methylation state and transcriptional activity in Polgm embryos, consequently preventing the developmental defects. Our findings uncover the important role of oocyte mtDNA mutation in controlling epigenetic reprogramming and gene expression during embryogenesis.αKG deserves further evaluation as a potential drug for treating mitochondrial dysfunction-related fertility decline.Longsen Han Yujia Chen Ling Li Chao Ren Haichao Wang Xinghan Wu Juan Ge Wenjie Shu Minjian Chen Qiang Wang 2022National Science Review2022,9,10:0
11MRI-Based Patient-Specific Left Ventricular Model to Determine the Effects of Trabeculae Carneae on the Diastolic and Systolic Functions显示文摘Introduction Trabeculae carneae are irregular structures that cover the endocardial surfaces of both ventricles of human heart and account for a significant portion of the ventricular mass. However, the role of trabeculae carneae in left ventricular(LV)function is not well understood.Previous reports suggested that trabeculae help squeeze blood from the apical region during systole[1].Our recent study suggests that trabeculae carneae hypertrophy and fibrosis contribute to increased LV stiffness in patients with diastolic heart failure, and severing free-running trabeculae carneae may improve diastolic compliance of the LV[2].Objective To understand the role of trabeculae carneae in the left ventricular diastolic and systolic functions using anatomically detailed patient-specific finite element models of the human LV.Methods(1)Image acquisition An explanted human heart was collected from a 63 year old female donor with a history of stroke and congestive heart failure within 24 hours postmortem from South Texas Blood and Tissue Center(San Antonio,TX).The heart was de-identified in accordance with Institutional Review Board(IRB)requirements and informed consent for research was obtained from the donor’s family.Three-dimensional MRI scanning was conducted on a 3T(128 MHz)MRI system(TIM Trio,Siemens Medical Solutions),comprised of a superconducting magnet with a 60 cm diameter accessible bore, when the heart was submerged in a saline filled plastic container.(2)Finite element analysis Three distinct LV models were derived from the MR images. The first model was the intact trabeculated model(TM)which contained all trabeculae carneae and papillary muscles. This high-resolution anatomically detailed 3D model of the LV was segmented from 2D MR images in DICOM format using Mimics(Materialise NV,Leuven,Belgium). The second model was the papillary model(PM),in which the papillary muscles remain intact but most of the trabeculae carneae were excluded in the smoothing process. The third model was the smooth model(SM)in which the trabeculae carneae and papillary muscles were excluded during image segmentation.Finite element(FE)models of the TM,PM and SM were created by meshing 3D reconstructions of the acquired MR images using tetrahedral elements(ICEM,Ansys Inc.,Canonsburg,PA).The mesh size was selected after a pilot study on mesh sensitivity. The passive cardiac muscle was characterized as a hyperelastic, incompressible, transversely isotropic material with a Fung exponential strain energy function. The material constants were determined by matching the end-diastolic pressure-volume relationship with the empirical Klotz relation[3].A rule-based myocardial fiber algorithm was adopted to generate the myofiber directions [4].The active contraction(i.e.,systolic contraction)was modeled by the time varying'Elastance'active contraction model. The contractile parameter Tmax was determined and calibrated so that the FE predicted ejection fraction(EF)of TM matched the EF of a normal human heart at the specified end-systolic pressure[3].The analysis of the TM,PM,and SM models were implemented using the open-source finite element package FEBio(www.febio.org).In all models, the rigid body motion was suppressed by constraining the base from moving in all directions. The end-diastolic and end-systolic pressure-volume relationships(EDPVR and ESPVR)were obtained and characterized by an exponential function and the slope, respectively. Results Our simulation results showed that independent of the material model, the EDPVR curve shifts to the right in PM and SM compared to TM.However, the ESPVR curve may shift to the right or left in PM compared to TM,while shifting tothe right in SM for all material models.EDPVR was steeper in TM compared to PM and SM;however,ESPVR was found to be steeper in PM than in TM and SM.The predicted parameters of EDPVR and ESPVR showed lower average exponential term in PM and SM compared to TM,indicating a significant improvement in the compliance and global diastolic function of less trabeculated LV models(P<0.01).Similarly,the higher average elastance EEs and lower volume intersect in PM compared to TM,suggests that mild cutting of trabeculae carneae slightly improves the global systolic function of the LV(P=0.89).However,cutting all trabeculae carneae and papillary muscles in SM had a significant adverse effect on the global systolic function(P<0.01).Discussion and conclusions Most patient-specific LV studies in the literature have used smoothed ventricular geometries. We used high resolution MRI to capture the endocardial details of the LV.Though reproducing very fine trabeculae carneae was restricted by the MRI resolution, our results demonstrated the importance of considering endocardial structures,i.e.papillary muscles and trabeculae carneae,in the assessment of LV global function in patient-specific computational LV models. The present work is consistent with the observation that diastolic performance improved after severing trabeculae carneae due to a reduction in LV stiffness[2].Furthermore,our results also suggest that severing trabeculae carneae(without affecting papillary muscle)may improve LV systolic function. Our model results are consistent with experimental measurements using ex vivo rabbit heart perfusion [5].This improvement would be greater in hypertrophic hearts because trabeculae carneae are also hypertrophic and more fibrotic.Left ventricular hypertrophy is often associated with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF).There is no effective treatment for HFpEF,which is characterized by impaired diastolic relaxation due to increased LV stiffness. Our results indicate that trabecular cutting could be an effective treatment for HFpEF.Fatemeh Fatemifar Marc Feldman Geoffrey Clarke Ender Finol Haichao Han 2019医用生物力学2019,34,A01:0
12Twist deformation and buckling behavior of veins显示文摘Introduction Twisted arteries and veins disrupt normal blood flow and elevate the risk for clinical complications such as thrombosis, heart attack, stroke, and organ dysfunction.Veins should remain mechanically stable for normal function. However, compared to arteries, veins are more vulnerable to collapse because they are thin-walled and under lower lumen pressure.Twisted veins have been shown to occur with head turning or after inadvertent twist during various vascular surgeries. In vivo and cadaver studies have demonstrated that turning the head to one side can result in torsion and compression of the internal jugular vein and can compromise cranial drain-Justin Garcia Haichao Han 2013医用生物力学2013,28,S1:0
