1Repurposing vitamin D for treatment of human malignancies via targeting tumor microenvironment显示文摘Tumor cells along with a small proportion of cancer stem cells exist in a stromal microenvironment consisting of vasculature, cancer-associated fibroblasts, immune cells and extracellular components.Recent epidemiological and clinical studies strongly support that vitamin D supplementation is associated with reduced cancer risk and favorable prognosis. Experimental results suggest that vitamin D not only suppresses cancer cells, but also regulates tumor microenvironment to facilitate tumor repression. In this review, we have outlined the current knowledge on epidemiological studies and clinical trials of vitamin D. Notably, wesummarized and discussed the anticancer action of vitamin D in cancer cells, cancer stem cells and stroma cells in tumor microenvironment, providing a better understanding of the role of vitamin D in cancer. 2The Influence of Transgenic cry1Ab/cry1Ac,cry1C and cry2A Rice on Non-Target Planthoppers and Their Main Predators Under Field Conditions显示文摘Transgenic Bt rice has been shown to be an effective means of controlling Lepidoptera pests of rice.However,the potential roles of transgenic rice on planthoppers and their predators need to be investigated before its commercialization.Population density,species dominance and population dynamics are important parameters of arthropods populations in field.So the impacts of three transgenic Bt rice strains expressing cry1Ab/cry1Ac,cry1C and cry2A on population density,species dominance and population dynamics of three species of planthoppers(Nilaparvata lugens,Sogatella furcifera and Laodelphax striatellus) and their three main predators(Cyrtorhinus lividipennis,Pirata subpiraticus and Theridium octomaculatum) were evaluated at three sites in Hubei Province,China,in the current study.The results showed that among three species of planthoppers,both in transgenic and non-transgenic rice field,the predominant species of planthoppers within phytophagous guild was S.furcifera at any site either growing season(46-50%).Significantly higher population density of N.lugens was observed in T2A-1 field relative to Minghui 63 field at Wuxue in 2010.The species dominance of predator,P.subpiraticus,in TT51 field was significantly higher than that in T1C-19 and T2A-1 fields in 2009 at Xiaogan site.Sampling date significantly influenced six arthropods except for P.subpiraticus in 2010.The interaction between rice strain×sampling date had no significant adverse effects on the population dynamics of three species of planthoppers and their predators,except for several individual species in 2009.The interaction among rice strain×sampling date×sampling site also had no significant effect on six arthropods except for S.furcifera in 2009.The results indicated that transgenic Bt rice expressing cry1Ab/cry1Ac,cry2A and cry1C had no significant adverse effects on the population dynamics of three planthoppers and their predators in most investigated data and sampling site.HANYu XU Xue-liang MA Wei-hua YUAN Ben-qi WANG Hui LIU Fang-zhou WANG Man-qun WU Gang HUA Hong-xia 2011Agricultural Sciences in China2011,10,11:14

4Functional assembly of root-associated microbial consortia improves nutrient efficiency and yield in soybean显示文摘Root-associated microbes are critical for plant growth and nutrient acquisition. However, scant information exists on optimizing communities of beneficial root-associated microbes or the mechanisms underlying their interactions with host plants. In this report, we demonstrate that rootassociated microbes are critical influencers of host plant growth and nutrient acquisition. Three synthetic communities(SynComs) were constructed based on functional screening of 1,893 microbial strains isolated from root-associated compartments of soybean plants. Functional assemblage of SynComs promoted significant plant growth and nutrient acquisition under both N/P nutrient deficiency and sufficiency conditions.Field trials further revealed that application of SynComs stably and significantly promoted plant growth, facilitated N and P acquisition, and subsequently increased soybean yield. Among the tested communities, SynCom1 exhibited the greatest promotion effect, with yield increases of up to 36.1% observed in two field sites. Further RNA-seq implied that SynCom application systemically regulates N and P signaling networks at the transcriptional level, which leads to increased representation of important growth pathways, especially those related to auxin responses. 6Nonvolatile waveguide transmission tuning with electrically-driven ultra-small GST phase-change material显示文摘Low-power reconfigurable optical circuits are highly demanded to satisfy a variety of different applications. Conventional electro-optic and thermo-optic refractive index tuning methods in silicon photonics are not suitable for reconfiguration of optical circuits due to their high static power consumption and volatility. We propose and demonstrate a nonvolatile tuning method by utilizing the reversible phase change property of GST integrated on top of the silicon waveguide. The phase change is enabled by applying electrical pulses to the lm-sized GST active region in a sandwich structure. 7Improved corrosion resistance and biofilm inhibition ability of copper-bearing 304 stainless steel against oral microaerobic Streptococcus mutans显示文摘304 stainless steel(SS) used as orthodontic wire during orthodontics faces the risk of microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC) due to diverse flora environment. Hereinto, Streptococcus mutans(S. mutans)is the most important cariogenic bacteria. In this work, MIC behavior of a new 304-Cu SS in presence of S. mutans was studied by the observations using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM) including live/dead staining, extracellular polymeric substance(EPS)staining and pitting corrosion, electrochemical test, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). Above results showed that 304-Cu SS possessed excellent biofilm inhibition ability and presented lower corrosion current density(icorr), larger polarization resistance(Rp) and charge transfer resistance(Rct) in the presence of S. mutans, indicating that 304-Cu SS had a better MIC resistance against S. mutans. 8A method for Absolute Protein Expression Quantity Measurement Employing Insulator RiboJ显示文摘Measuring the absolute protein expression quantity for a specific promoter is necessary in the fields of both molecular biology and synthetic biology.The strength of a promoter is traditionally characterized by measuring the fluorescent intensity of the fluorescent protein downstream of the promoter.Until now,measurement of the absolute protein expression quantity for a promoter,however,has been unsuccessful in synthetic biology.The fact that the protein coding sequence influences the expression level for different proteins,and the inconvenience of measuring the absolute protein expression level,present a challenge to absolute quantitative measurement.Here,we introduce a new method that combines the insulator RiboJ with the standard fluorescence curve in order to measure the absolute protein expression quantity quickly;this method has been validated by modeling verification.Using this method,we successfully measured nine constitutive promoters in the Anderson promoter family.Our method provides data with higher accuracy for pathway design and is a straightforward way to standardize the strength of different promoters.Hongbin Yu Zheng Wang Hanyue Xu Jiusi Guo Qingge Ma Xiangxu Mu Yunzi Luo 2018Engineering2018,4,6:1

14High-yield red phosphorus sponge mediated robust lithium-sulfur battery显示文摘Although lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries with high specific energy exhibit great potential for next-generation energy-storage systems,their practical applications are limited by the growth of Li dendrites and lithium polysulfides(LiPSs)shuttling.Herein,a highly porous red phosphorus sponge(HPPS)with well distributed pore structure was efficiently prepared via a facile and largescale hydrothermal process for polysulfides adsorption and dendrite suppression.As experimental demonstrated,the porous red phosphorus modified separator with increased active site greatly promotes the chemisorption of LiPSs to efficiently immobilize the active sulfur within the cathode section,while Li metal anode activated by Li_(3)P interlayer with abundant ionically conductive channels significantly eliminates the barrier for uniform Li^(+)permeation across the interlayer,contributing to the enhanced stability for both S cathode and Li anode.Mediated by the HPPS,long-term stability of 1,200 h with minor voltage hysteresis is achieved in symmetric cells with Li_(3)P@Li electrode while Li-S half-cell based on HPPS modified separator delivers an outperformed reversibility of 783.0 mAh·g^(−1)after 300 cycles as well as high-rate performance of 694.5 mAh·g^(−1)at 3 C,which further boosts the HPPS tuned full cells in practical S loading(3 mg·cm^(−2))and thin Li3P@Li electrode(100μm)with a capacity retention of 71.8%after 200 cycles at 0.5 C.This work provides a cost-effective and metal free mediator for simultaneously alleviating the fundamental issues of both S cathode and Li anode towards high energy density and long cycle life Li-S full batteries.Zheng Luo Shusheng Tao Ye Tian Hanyu Tu Laiqiang Xu Wentao Deng Guoqiang Zou Hongshuai Hou Xiaobo Ji 2023Nano Research2023,16,6:0
15Cefotetan-bound human RKIP involves in Ras/Raf1/MEK/ERK signaling pathway显示文摘Cefotetan is widely used to treat bacterial infections in the clinic owing to its broad spectrum of antibacterial activity.In the present study,we demonstrate that cefotetan can bind to the conserved ligand-binding pocket of human Raf1 kinase inhibitory protein(hRKIP),which acts as a negative regulator of the Ras/Raf1/MEK/ERK signaling pathway.The cefotetan-bound hRKIP adopts a rigid structure with insufficient space for binding Raf1 kinase,thereby reliving the inhibitory activity of hRKIP in the Ras/Raf1/MEK/ERK signaling pathway and enhancing the phosphorylation level of ERK.Both NMR titration and molecular docking approaches show that several residues(P74,Y81,W84,P111,P112,K113,S142,G143,D144,W173,P178,Y181 and L184)play crucial roles in hRKIP binding cefotetan.NMR dynamics analysis reveals that the binding of cefotetan with hRKIP promotes ps-ns internal motion but reducesμs-ms conformational exchange for residues in the cefotetan-binding pocket of hRKIP.Our results not only disclose the structural basis of cefotetan upregulating the Ras/Raf1/MEK/ERK signaling pathway but also benefit developing novel drugs against diseases caused by the impaired Ras/Raf1/MEK/ERK pathway.Chenyun Guo Hao Xu Yu Zhou Zhihua Wu Bin Jiang Hanyu Chen Donghai Lin 2022Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2022,54,12:0
16Predicting the structure and stability of titanium oxide electrides显示文摘The search for new inorganic electrides has attracted significant attention due to their potential applications in transparent conductors,battery electrodes,electron emitters,as well as catalysts for chemical synthesis.However,only a few inorganic electrides have been successfully synthesized thus far,limiting the variety of electride examples.Here,we show the stabilization of inorganic electrides in the Ti-rich Ti–O system through first-principles calculations in conjunction with swarm-intelligence-based CALYPSO method for structure prediction.Besides the known Ti-rich stoichiometries of Ti_(2)O,Ti_(3)O,and Ti_(6)O,two hitherto unknown Ti_(4)O and Ti_(5)O stoichiometries are predicted to be thermodynamically stable at certain pressure conditions.We found that these Tirich Ti–O compounds are primarily zero-dimensional electrides with excess electrons confined in the atom-sized lattice voids or between the cationic layers playing the role as anions.The underlying mechanism behind the stabilization of electrides has been rationalized in terms of the excess electrons provided by Ti atoms and their accommodation of excess electrons by multiple cavities and layered atomic packings.The present results provide a viable direction for searching for practical electrides in the technically important Ti–O system.Xin Zhong Meiling Xu Lili Yang Xin Qu Lihua Yang Miao Zhang Hanyu Liu Yanming Ma 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:0
17Modeling Spatio-temporal Drought Events Based on Multi-temporal,Multi-source Remote Sensing Data Calibrated by Soil Humidity显示文摘Inspired by recent significant agricultural yield losses in the eastern China and a missing operational monitoring system,we developed a comprehensive drought monitoring model to better understand the impact of individual key factors contributing to this issue.The resulting model,the‘Humidity calibrated Drought Condition Index’(HcDCI)was applied for the years 2001 to 2019 in form of a case study to Weihai County,Shandong Province in East China.Design and development are based on a linear combination of the Vegetation Condition Index(VCI),the Temperature Condition Index(TCI),and the Rainfall Condition Index(RCI)using multi-source satellite data to create a basic Drought Condition Index(DCI).VCI and TCI were derived from MODIS(Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer)data,while precipitation is taken from CHIRPS(Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data)data.For reasons of accuracy,the decisive coefficients were determined by the relative humidity of soils at depth of 10-20 cm of particular areas collected by an agrometeorological ground station.The correlation between DCI and soil humidity was optimized with the factors of 0.53,0.33,and 0.14 for VCI,TCI,and RCI,respectively.The model revealed,light agricultural droughts from 2003 to 2013 and in 2018,while more severe droughts occurred in 2001 and 2002,2014-2017,and 2019.The droughts were most severe in January,March,and December,and our findings coincide with historical records.The average temperature during 2012-2019 is 1℃ higher than that during the period 2001-2011 and the average precipitation during 2014-2019 is 192.77 mm less than that during 2008-2013.The spatio-temporal accuracy of the HcDCI model was positively validated by correlation with agricultural crop yield quantities.The model thus,demonstrates its capability to reveal drought periods in detail,its transferability to other regions and its usefulness to take future measures.LI Hanyu KAUFMANN Hermann XU Guochang 2022Chinese Geographical Science2022,32,1:0
18Pre-anoxic/Orbal Oxidation Ditch/Rotary Disc Filter Treatment of Mixed Sewage in Industrial Park显示文摘The design scale of a sewage treatment plant in the industrial center of a district in Changzhou is 2×10^(4) m^(3)/d. Data analysis, process selection and analysis and main structure design were carried out for the sewage treatment plant to ensure that the effluent quality meets the discharge standards. The operation results after the implementation of the project show that the project can effectively improve the effluent quality of the sewage treatment plant. The removal rates of COD, NH+4, TN and TP are 93.97%, 98.63%, 82.67% and 97.37% respectively, and the effluent quality can be discharged stably up to the standard. Using cost analysis to study the operation of the sewage treatment plant, the results show that the total investment of the sewage treatment plant is 40 million yuan, the electricity cost of this project is 0.426 yuan/m^(3), the pharmaceutical cost is 0.655 yuan/m^(3), and the material replacement fee is 0.323 yuan/m^(3). The direct operating cost is 1.404 yuan/m^(3).
