| 1 | Synthesis, characterization and size control of zerovalent iron nanoparticles anchored on montmorillonite显示文摘Zerovalent iron nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized using sodium borohydride solution reduction of ferric trichloride hexahydrate in the presence of montmorillonite as an effective protective reagent and support as well. A combination of characterizations reveals that with high monodispersity these obtained iron nanoparticles are well dispersed on clay surface, virginal from boron related impurity, and oxidation resistant well with iron core-iron oxide shell structure. The shell thickness of 3 nm remains almost invariable under ambient conditions. | 3 | Surgical treatment of hepato-pancreato-biliary disease in China:the Tongji experience显示文摘Hepato-pancreato-biliary(HPB) tumors are common in China. However, these tumors are often diagnosed at intermediate/advanced stages because of the lack of a systemic surveillance program in China. This situation creates many technical challenges for surgeons and increases the incidence of postoperative complications. Therefore, Dr. Xiao-Ping Chen has made many important technical improvements, such as Chen's hepatic portal occlusion method, the anterior approach for liver resection of large HCC tumors, the modified technique of Belghiti's liver-hanging maneuver, inserting biliary-enteric anastomosis technique, and invaginated pancreaticojujunostomy with transpancreatic U-sutures. These techniques are simple, practical, and easy to learn. Owing to these advantages, complicated surgical procedures can be simplified, and the curative effects are greatly improved. These improved techniques have been widely applied in China and will benefit many additional patients. | 4 | Calculus Bovis Sativus up-regulates hepatic protein 2(Mrp2) and Mrp4 in 17α-ethynylestradiol-induced cholestasis via a regulatory effect on ER signaling显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the pathway through which Calculus Bovis Sativus (CBS) up-regulates hepatic multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (Mrp2) and Mrp4 in 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE)-induced cholestasis.METHODS:Five groups of rats were designed:control group,EE+ICI182780 group,EE group,EE+CBS 50 mg/kg group and EE + CBS 150 mg/kg group.CBS (50 and 150 mg.kg-1· d-1) was orally given to rats by gavage for five consecutive days in coadministration with EE.The levels of cholestasis biomarkers,alanine aminotransferase (ALT),aspartate aminotransferase (AST),alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and total bilirubin (TBIL) were determined by biochemical methods.The bile flow was measured.The histopathology of the liver tissue was evaluated.The expression of Mrp2,Mrp3,Mrp4,estrogen receptor α(ERα) and ERβ was determined by Western blotting.RESULTS:CBS markedly improved EE-induced cholestasis.EE exposure significantly reduced hepatic Mrp2 and Mrp4 expression compared with the control group.EE also dramatically up-regulated the expression of Mrp3.Compared to the EE group,CBS notably up-regulated hepatic Mrp2 and Mrp4 but failed to influence the Mrp3 level significantly.ICI182780,an ER antagonist,showed similar beneficial effects as CBS.Decreased expression of Mrp2 and Mrp4 caused by EE was also restored by IC1182780.Additionally,EE significantly induced hepatic ERα expression,which was reversed by ICI182780 or CBS (150 mg/kg) treatment,suggesting that CB5 exerted a moderate regulatory effect on ER signaling.CONCLUSION:CBS up-regulated hepatic Mrp2 and Mrp4 expression in EE-induced cholestasis,which might be associated with its regulation of ER signaling. | Wu Tao Liu Dong Song Hongping | 2019 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2019,39,3: | 2 |

| 7 | Cell osteogenic bioactivity mediated precisely by varying scaled micro-pits on ordered micro/nano hierarchical structures of titanium显示文摘Hierarchical surface structures with micro–nano scale play a crucial role in regulation of cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation.It has been proven that cells are extremely sensitive to the nanoscaled structure and show multifarious phenotypes.Though a vital function of microstructure on osseointegration has been confirmed,the cell performances response to different microscaled structure is needed to be further dissected and in depth understood.In this work,the ordered micro–nano hierarchical structures with varying micro-scaled pits were precisely fabricated on titanium successfully by the combination of electrochemical,chemical etching and anodization as well.In vitro systematical assessments indicated that the micro–nano multilevel structures on titanium exhibited excellent cells adhesion and spreading ability,as well as steerable proliferation and osteogenic differentiation behaviors.It is shown that smaller micro-pits and lower roughness of the hierarchical structures enabled faster cell propagation.Despite cell growth was delayed on micro–nano titanium with relatively larger cell-match-size micro-pits and roughness,osteogenic-specific genes were significantly elevated.Furthermore,the alkaline phosphatase activity,collagen secretion and extracellular matrix mineralization of MC3T3-E1 on multiscaled titanium were suppressed by a large margin after adding IWP-2(an inhibitor of Wnt/b-catenin signal pathway),indicating this pathway played a crucial part in cell osteogenic differentiation modulated by micro–nano structures. | Yanmei Zhang Xiankuan Wang Yaxian Li Jianhe Liang Pinliang Jiang Qiaoling Huang Yun Yang Hongping Duan Xiang Dong Gang Rui Changjian Lin | 2022 | Regenerative Biomaterials2022,9,1: | 1 |

| 17 | Flavivirus RNA cap methyltransferase:structure,function,and inhibition显示文摘Many flaviviruses are significant human pathogens.The plus-strand RNA genome of a flavivirus contains a 5′terminal cap 1 structure(m7GpppAmG).The flavivirus encodes one methyltransferase(MTase),located at the Nterminal portion of the NS5 RNA-dependent RNA polymerase(RdRp).Here we review recent advances in our understanding of flaviviral capping machinery and the implications for drug development.The NS5 MTase catalyzes both guanine N7 and ribose 2'-OH methylations during viral cap formation.Representative flavivirus MTases,from dengue,yellow fever,and West Nile virus(WNV),sequentially generate GpppA!m7GpppA!m7GpppAm.Despite the existence of two distinct methylation activities,the crystal structures of flavivirus MTases showed a single binding site for S-adenosyl-L-methionine(SAM),the methyl donor.This finding indicates that the substrate GpppA-RNA must be repositioned to accept the N7 and 2'-O methyl groups from SAM during the sequential reactions.Further studies demonstrated that distinct RNA elements are required for the methylations of guanine N7 on the cap and of ribose 2'-OH on the first transcribed nucleotide.Mutant enzymes with different methylation defects can trans complement one another in vitro,demonstrating that separate molecules of the enzyme can independently catalyze the two cap methylations in vitro.In the context of the infectious virus,defects in both methylations,or a defect in the N7 methylation alone,are lethal to WNV.However,viruses defective solely in 2'-O methylation are attenuated and can protect mice from later wild-typeWNV challenge.The results demonstrate that the N7 methylation activity is essential for the WNV life cycle and,thus,methyltransferase represents a novel and promising target for flavivirus therapy. | Lihui LIU Hongping DONG Hui CHEN Jing ZHANG Hua LING Zhong LI Pei-Yong SHI Hongmin LI | 2010 | Frontiers in Biology2010,5,4: | 0 |
| 18 | Methane Adsorption on Montmorillonite, Kaolinite and Illite at High Pressures显示文摘Shale gas, which is derived from organic matters in shale and stored in shale deposits, is an important unconventional gas resource and attracts attention due to its significant requirement in the hydrocarbon production. Methane (CH4) is the dominant component of shale gas, and adsorbed gas is an important reservoir form. Many studies have investigated the adsorption capacities and adsorption mechanisms of CH4 in shale. Organic matters and clay minerals have been proposed to be the two major components for CH4 adsorption. Adsorption of CH4 in organic matters, such as the adsorption capacity and effects of characteristics of the organic matters, has been well investigated. However, studies on CH4 adsorption on clay minerals have mainly focused on evaluating the adsorption capacity, and very little information about the adsorption mechanism has been provided. For example, the adsorption sites and factors influencing CH4 adsorption on clay minerals remain unclear. | 19 | Physically Activated Diatomite-templated Carbon with High Porosity for the Adsorption of Methylene Blue显示文摘Porous carbons are extensively applied in gas separation, water purification, catalytic reaction, and electrochemical processing, attributing to their high specific surface area, large pore volume, chemical inertness, and good mechanical and thermal stability. The templating method is widely used to synthesize porous carbons with the controlled pore structure. Among them, preparation of diatomite-templated carbons attracts increasing attention because the obtained carbon has unique developed macropores and exhibits the promising application in adsorption and support of large-sized molecules. Macroporous diatomite-templated carbons are prepared by using additive or inherent solid acid sites of diatomite as the catalyst. The obtained carbons showed tubular and pillared macroporous structures, and had a few mesopores and micropores. However, the carbons possessed the small specific surface area and micropore volume, and thus showed the low adsorption capacity of small-sized molecules, such as methylene blue (MB). The interlayer region of clay minerals not only provides storage space for organic matter, but also possesses solid acid sites; and these acid sites were proposed to be involved with the transformation of organic matter into liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons. However, the effect of the organic matter storage in the interlayer space of clay minerals on the hydrocarbons generation has not been made clear. In this study, the interlayer complex of 12-aminolauric acid (ALA) and Na+-montmorillonite (Na+-Mt), labeled as ALAinter-Mt (Na), was synthesized to investigate the role of the interlayer space of montmorillonite in hydrocarbon generation. Simply mixed ALA-Mt complex [ALA-Mt (Na)] was also prepared for comparison.
