Detecting soil salinity with arid fraction integrated index and salinity index in feature space using Landsat TM imagery显示文摘Modeling soil salinity in an arid salt-affected ecosystem is a difficult task when using remote sensing data because of the complicated soil context(vegetation cover, moisture, surface roughness, and organic matter)and the weak spectral features of salinized soil. Therefore,an index such as the salinity index(SI)that only uses soil spectra may not detect soil salinity effectively and quantitatively. The use of vegetation reflectance as an indirect indicator can avoid limitations associated with the direct use of soil reflectance. The normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI),as the most common vegetation index, was found to be responsive to salinity but may not be available for retrieving sparse vegetation due to its sensitivity to background soil in arid areas. Therefore, the arid fraction integrated index(AFII)was created as supported by the spectral mixture analysis(SMA),which is more appropriate for analyzing variations in vegetation cover(particularly halophytes)than NDVI in the study area.Using soil and vegetation separately for detecting salinity perhaps is not feasible. Then,we developed a new and operational model, the soil salinity detecting model(SDM)that combines AFII and SI to quantitatively estimate the salt content in the surface soil.SDMs,including SDM1 and SDM2,were constructed through analyzing the spatial characteristics of soils with different salinization degree by integrating AFII and SI using a scatterplot. The SDMs were then compared to the combined spectral response index(COSRI)from field measurements with respect to the soil salt content. The results indicate that the SDM values are highly correlated with soil salinity,in contrast to the performance of COSRI.Strong exponential relationships were observed between soil salinity and SDMs(R2>0.86,RMSE<6.86)compared to COSRI(R2=0.71,RMSE=16.21).These results suggest that the feature space related to biophysical properties combined with AFII and SI can effectively provide information on soil salinity. | Fei WANG Xi CHEN GePing LUO JianLi DING XianFeng CHEN | 2013 | Journal of Arid Land2013,5,3: | 14
Efficient InGaN-based yellow-light-emitting diodes显示文摘Realization of efficient yellow-light-emitting diodes(LEDs) has always been a challenge in solid-state lighting.Great effort has been made, but only slight advancements have occurred in the past few decades. After comprehensive work on InGaN-based yellow LEDs on Si substrate, we successfully made a breakthrough and pushed the wall-plug efficiency of 565-nm-yellow LEDs to 24.3% at 20 A∕cm^2 and 33.7% at 3 A∕cm^2. The success of yellow LEDs can be credited to the improved material quality and reduced compressive strain of InGaN quantum wells by a prestrained layer and substrate, as well as enhanced hole injection by a 3 D pn junction with V-pits. | FENGYI JIANG JIANLI ZHANG LONGQUAN XU JIE DING GUANGXU WANG XIAOMING WU XIAOLAN WANG CHUNLAN MO ZHIJUE QUAN XING GUO CHANGDA ZHENG SHUAN PAN JUNLIN LIU | 2019 | Photonics Research2019,7,2: | 13
Vegetation fractional coverage change in a typical oasis region in Tarim River Watershed based on remote sensing显示文摘Vegetation fractional coverage(VFC) is an important index to describe and evaluate the ecological system. The vegetation index is widely used to monitor vegetation coverage in the field of remote sensing(RS).In this paper, the author conducted a case study of the delta oasis of Weigan and Kuqa rivers, which is a typical saline area in the Tarim River Watershed. The current study was based on the TM/ETM+ images of 1989,2001,and 2006,and supported by Geographic Information System(GIS) spatial analysis, vegetation index, and dimidiate pixel model. In addition,VBSI(vegetation, bare soil and shadow indices) suitable for TM/ETM+ images, constructed with FCD(forest canopy density) model principle and put forward by ITTO(International Tropical Timber Organization),was used, and it was applied to estimate the VFC.The estimation accuracy was later proven to be up to 83.52%.Further,the study analyzed and appraised the changes in vegetation patterns and revealed a pattern of spatial change in the vegetation coverage of the study area by producing the map of VFC levels in the delta oasis.Forest, grassland, and farmland were the three main land-use types with high and extremely-high coverage, and they played an important role in maintaining the vegetation. The forest area determined the changes of the coverage area, whereas the other two land types affected the directions of change. Therefore, planting trees, protecting grasslands, reclaiming farmlands, and controlling unused lands should be included in a long-term program because of their importance in keeping regional vegetation coverage. Finally, the dynamic variation of VFC in the study area was evaluated according to the quantity and spatial distribution rendered by plant cover digital images to deeply analyze the reason behind the variation. | Fei ZHANG Tashpolat TIYIP JianLi DING Mamat SAWUT Verner Carl JOHNSON NigaraTASHPOLAT DongWei GUI | 2013 | Journal of Arid Land2013,5,1: | 12
Efficient emission of InGaN-based light-emitting diodes:toward orange and red显示文摘Indium gallium nitride(InGaN)-based light-emitting diodes(LEDs)are considered a promising candidate for red-green-blue(RGB)micro displays.Currently, the blue and green LEDs are efficient, while the red ones are inefficient for such applications. This paper reports our work of creating efficient InGaN-based orange and red LEDs on silicon(111)substrates at low current density.Based on the structure of InGaN yellow LEDs,by simply reducing the growth temperature of all the yellow quantum wells(QWs),we obtained 599 nm orange LEDs with peak wall-plug efficiency(WPE)of 18.1%at 2 A/cm^2.An optimized QW structure was proposed that changed two of the nine yellow QWs to orange ones.Compared with the sample containing nine orange QWs,the sample with two orange QWs and seven yellow QWs showed similar emission spectra but a much higher peak WPE up to 24.0%at 0.8 A/cm^2 with a wavelength of 608 nm.The improvement of peak WPE can be attributed to the improved QW quality and the reduced active recombination volume.Subsequently,a series of efficient InGaN-based orange and red LEDs was demonstrated. With further development, the InGaN-based red LEDs are believed to be attainable and can be used in micro LED displays. | Shengnan Zhang Jianli Zhang Jiangdong Gao Xiaolan Wang Changda Zheng Meng Zhang Xiaoming Wu Longquan Xu Jie Ding Zhijue Quan Fengyi Jiang | 2020 | Photonics Research2020,8,11: | 10
Stand structure and height-diameter relationship of a degraded Populus euphratica forest in the lower reaches of the Tarim River, Northwest China显示文摘Understanding stand structure and height-diameter relationship of trees provides very useful information to establish appropriate countermeasures for sustainable management of endangered forests. Populus euphratica, a dominant tree species along the Tarim River watershed, plays an irreplaceable role in the sustainable development of regional ecology, economy and society. However, as the result of climate changes and human activities, the natural riparian ecosystems within the whole river basin were degraded enormously, particularly in the lower reaches of the river where about 320 km of the riparian forests were either highly degraded or dead. In this study, we presented one of the main criteria for the assessment of vitality of P. euphratica forests by estimating the defoliation level, and analyzed forest structure and determined the height-diameter(height means the height of a tree and diameter means the diameter at breast height(DBH) of a tree) relationship of trees in different vitality classes(i.e. healthy, good, medium, senesced, dying, dead and fallen). Trees classified as healthy and good accounted for approximately 40% of all sample trees, while slightly and highly degraded trees took up nearly 60% of total sample trees. The values of TH(tree height) and DBH ranged from 0–19 m and 0–125 cm, respectively. Trees more than 15 m in TH and 60 cm in DBH appeared sporadically. Trees in different vitality classes had different distribution patterns. Healthy trees were mainly composed more of relatively younger trees than of degraded tress. The height-diameter relationships differed greatly among tress in different vitality classes, with the coefficients ranging from 0.1653 to 0.6942. Correlation coefficients of TH and DBH in healthy and good trees were higher than those in trees of other vitality classes. The correlation between TH and DBH decreased with the decline of tree vitality. Our results suggested that it might be able to differentiate degraded P. euphratica trees from healthy trees by determining the height-diameter correlation coefficient, and the coefficient would be a new parameter for detecting degradation and assessing sustainable management of floodplain forests in arid regions. In addition, tree vitality should be taken into account to make an accurate height-diameter model for tree height prediction. | AISHAN Tayierjiang HALIK ümüt Florian BETZ TIYIP Tashpolat DING Jianli NUERMAIMAITI Yiliyasijiang | 2015 | Journal of Arid Land2015,7,4: | 10
CD147 antibody specifically and effectively inhibits infection and cytokine storm of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants delta, alpha, beta, and gamma显示文摘SARS-CoV-2 mutations contribute to increased viral transmissibility and immune escape, compromising the effectiveness of existing vaccines and neutralizing antibodies. An in-depth investigation on COVID-19 pathogenesis is urgently needed to develop a strategy against SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here,we identified CD147 as a universal receptor for SARS-CoV-2 and its variants.Meanwhile,Meplazeumab,a humanized anti-CD147 antibody, could block cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants-alpha,beta,gamma,and delta, with inhibition rates of 68.7,75.7,52.1,52.1,and 62.3%at 60μg/ml,respectively.Furthermore,humanized CD147 transgenic mice were susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 and its two variants, alpha and beta. When infected, these mice developed exudative alveolar pneumonia, featured by immune responses involving alveoli-infiltrated macrophages, neutrophils, and lymphocytes and activation of IL-17 signaling pathway.Mechanistically,we proposed that severe COVID-19-related cytokine storm is induced by a'spike protein-CD147-CyPA signaling axis':Infection of SARS-CoV-2 through CD147 initiated the JAK-STAT pathway, which further induced expression of cyclophilin A(CyPA);CyPA reciprocally bound to CD147 and triggered MAPK pathway.Consequently, the MAPK pathway regulated the expression of cytokines and chemokines, which promoted the development of cytokine storm.Importantly,Meplazumab could effectively inhibit viral entry and inflammation caused by SARS-CoV-2 and its variants. Therefore, our findings provided a new perspective for severe COVID-19-related pathogenesis.Furthermore, the validated universal receptor for SARS-CoV-2 and its variants can be targeted for COVID-19 treatment. | Jiejie Geng Liang Chen Yufeng Yuan Ke Wang Youchun Wang Chuan Qin Guizhen Wu Ruo Chen Zheng Zhang Ding Wei Peng Du Jun Zhang Peng Lin Kui Zhang Yongqiang Deng Ke Xu Jiangning Liu Xiuxuan Sun Ting Guo Xu Yang Jiao Wu Jianli Jiang Ling Li Kun Zhang Zhe Wang Jing Zhang Qingguo Yan Hua Zhu Zhaohui Zheng Jinlin Miao Xianghui Fu Fengfan Yang Xiaochun Chen Hao Tang Yang Zhang Ying Shi Yumeng Zhu Zhuo Pei Fei Huo Xue Liang Yatao Wang Qingyi Wang Wen Xie Yirong Li Mingyan Shi Huijie Bian Ping Zhu Zhi-Nan Chen | 2021 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,10: | 6
Characterizing urban expansion of Korla City and its spatial-temporal patterns using remote sensing and GIS methods显示文摘Cities provide spatial contexts for populations and economic activities. Determining the spatial-temporal patterns of urban expansion is of particular significance for regional sustainable development. To achieve a better understanding of the spatial-temporal patterns of urban expansion of Korla City, we explore the urban expansion characteristics of Korla City over the period 1995–2015 by employing Landsat TM/ETM+ images of 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015. Urban land use types were classified using the supervised classification method in ENVI 4.5. Urban expansion indices, such as expansion area, expansion proportion, expansion speed, expansion intensity, compactness, and fractal dimension, were calculated. The spatial-temporal patterns and evolution process of the urban expansion(e.g., urban gravity center and its direction of movement) were then quantitatively analyzed. The results indicated that, over the past 25 years, the area and proportion of urban land increased substantially with an average annual growth rate of 15.18%. Farmland and unused land were lost greatly due to the urban expansion. This result might be attributable to the rapid population growth and the dramatic economic development in this area. The city extended to the southeast, and the urban gravity center shifted to the southeast as well by about 2118 m. The degree of urban compactness tended to decrease and the fractal dimension index tended to increase, indicating that the spatial pattern of Korla City was becoming loose, complex, and unstable. This study could provide a scientific reference for the studies on urban expansion of oasis cities in arid land. | Bumairiyemu MAIMAITI DING Jianli Zibibula SIMAYI Alimujiang KASIMU | 2017 | Journal of Arid Land2017,9,3: | 4
Digital mapping of soil salinization based on Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data combined with machine learning algorithms显示文摘Soil salinization is one of the most important causes of land degradation and desertification, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. The dynamic monitoring of soil salinization is of great significance to land management, agricultural activities, water quality, and sustainable development. The remote sensing images taken by the synthetic aperture radar(SAR)Sentinel-1 and the multispectral satellite Sentinel-2 with high resolution and short revisit period have the potential to monitor the spatial distribution of soil attribute information on a large area;however, there are limited studies on the combination of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 for digital mapping of soil salinization. Therefore,in this study,we used topography indices derived from digital elevation model(DEM),SAR indices generated by Sentinel-1,and vegetation indices generated by Sentinel-2 to map soil salinization in the Ogan-Kuqa River Oasis located in the central and northern Tarim Basin in Xinjiang of China, and evaluated the potential of multi-source sensors to predict soil salinity.Using the soil electrical conductivity(EC)values of 70 ground sampling sites as the target variable and the optimal environmental factors as the predictive variable,we constructed three soil salinity inversion models based on classification and regression tree(CART),random forest(RF),and extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost). Then,we evaluated the prediction ability of different models through the five-fold cross validation. The prediction accuracy of XGBoost model is better than those of CART and RF,and soil salinity predicted by the three models has similar spatial distribution characteristics.Compared with the combination of topography indices and vegetation indices, the addition of SAR indices effectively improves the prediction accuracy of the model. In general, the method of soil salinity prediction based on multi-source sensor combination is better than that based on a single sensor. In addition,SAR indices, vegetation indices, and topography indices are all effective variables for soil salinity prediction.Weighted Difference Vegetation Index(WDVI)is designated as the most important variable in these variables, followed by DEM.The results showed that the high-resolution radar Sentinel-1 and multispectral Sentinel-2 have the potential to develop soil salinity prediction model. | Guolin Ma Jianli Ding Lijng Han Zipeng Zhang Si Ran | 2021 | Regional Sustainability2021,2,2: | 4
Vegetation actualities and feasibility of restoration for the periphery of oasis in extreme arid region: taking Qira County of Xinjiang as an example显示文摘The periphery of oasis plays an important role in mutual transformation between desert and oasis. Vegetation is an important part in the ecosystem and it is an important index indicating certain landscape. Based on several times field investigation, this paper attaches importance to the feasible measures for vegetation restoration according to the current condition of study area – Qira County of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. In order to improve the local ecological environment, people lived in Qira County should work hard to protect their homeland and reduce the degree of sandstorm. More protection forest should be established along with other ecological techniques. Results derived from this study contribute largely to the ecological environmental protection of oasis. | Ding Jianli Zhang Ying | 2006 | Ecological Economy2006,2,2: | 2

Dielectric properties of saline soil based on a modified Dobson dielectric model显示文摘Soil salinization is a major concern for agricultural development in arid areas. In this paper, a modified Dobson dielectric model was applied to simulate the dielectric constant of saline soil in the Ugan-Kuqa river delta oasis of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, northwestern China. The model performance was examined through analyzing the influences of its parameters on the soil dielectric constant and the relationship between radar backscattering coefficient and the dielectric constant of saline soil. The results of the study indicate that:(1) The real part of the soil dielectric constant is affected by soil water content at low radar frequencies; the imaginary part is closely related with both the soil water content and soil salt content.(2) The soil water and salt contents are related with the coefficient of dialectical loss, which is consistent with the natural conditions of saline soil in arid areas and provides valuable references for the study of soil dielectric properties.(3) The changes of soil water content and soil salt content have instant influences on the dielectric constant of saline soil. Subsequently, the radar backscattering coefficient is affected to respond to the dielectric constant of saline soil. The radar backscattering coefficient is most responsible to the radar's cross polarization pattern with a correlation coefficient of R2=0.75. This study provides a potential method to monitor soil salinization and soil water content by using a soil dielectric model and radar techniques. | Nigara TASHPOLAT DING Jianli YU Danlin | 2015 | Journal of Arid Land2015,7,5: | 1
