| 1 | Effects of pH and soil texture on the adsorption and transport of Cd in soils显示文摘To better understand the adsorption and transport of Cd2+ in soils, column experiments were conducted with various soils and inflow solutions with different pH values. Breakthrough curves (BTCs) of the column tests were fitted using both the equilibrium and non-equilibrium models installed in the program of CXTFIT. Results showed that the equilibrium model fitted most of BTCs reasonably well. Values of the retardation factor (R) and the distribution coefficient (kd) for Cd2+ adsorption and transport increased with increasing pH values of the inflow solution and of the soil. However, the clay content was not a key factor to affect R and kd for Cd2+ adsorption and transport. | 2 | The precise regulation of different COR genes by individual CBF transcription factors in Arabidopsis thaliana显示文摘The transcription factors CBF1/2/3 are reported to play a dominant role in the cold responsive network of Arabidopsis by directly regulating the expression levels of cold responsive(COR) genes.In this study,we obtained CRISPR/Cas9-mediated loss-of-function mutants of cbf1$3.Over 3,000 COR genes identified by RNA-seq analysis showed a slight but significant change in their expression levels in the mutants compared to the wildtype plants after being treated at 4 °C for 12 h.The C-repeat(CRT) motif(50-CCGAC-30) was enriched in promoters of genes that were up-regulated by CBF2 and CBF3 but not in promoters of genes up-regulated by CBF1.These data suggest that CBF2 and CBF3 play a more important role in directing the cold response by regulating different sets of downstream COR genes.More than 2/3 of COR genes were co-regulated by two or three CBFs and were involved mainly in cellular signal transduction and metabolic processes;less than 1/3 of the genes were regulated by one CBF,and those genes up-regulated were enriched in cold-related abiotic stress responses.Our results indicate that CBFs play an important role in the trade-off between cold tolerance and plant growth through the precise regulation of COR genes in the complicated transcriptional network. | Yihao Shi Jiaying Huang Tianshu Sun Xuefei Wang Chenqi Zhu Yuxi Ai Hongya Gu | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2017,59,2: | 7 |
| 3 | Factors that determine catastrophic expenditure for tuberculosis care: a patient survey in China显示文摘Background:Tuberculosis(TB)often causes catastrophic economic effects on both the individual suffering the disease and their households.A number of studies have analyzed patient and household expenditure on TB care,but there does not appear to be any that have assessed the incidence,intensity and determinants of catastrophic health expenditure(CHE)relating to TB care in China.That will be the objective of this paper.Methods:The data used for this study were derived from the baseline survey of the China Government–Gates Foundation TB Phase Ⅱ program.Our analysis included 747 TB cases.Catastrophic health expenditure for TB care was estimated using two approaches,with households defined as experiencing CHE if their annual expenditure on TB care:(a)exceeded 10%of total household income;and(b)exceeded 40%of their non-food expenditure(capacity to pay).Chi-square tests were used to identify associated factors and logistic regression analysis to identify the determinants of CHE.Results:The incidence of CHE was 66.8%using the household income measure and 54.7%using non-food expenditure(capacity to pay).An inverse association was observed between CHE rates and household income level.Significant determinants of CHE were:age,household size,employment status,health insurance status,patient income as a percentage of total household income,hospitalization and status as a minimum living security household.Factors including gender,marital status and type of TB case had no significant associations with CHE.Conclusions:Catastrophic health expenditure incidence from TB care is high in China.An integrated policy expanding the free treatment package and ensuring universal coverage,especially the height of UHC for TB patients,is needed.Financial and social protection interventions are essential for identified at-risk groups. | Chengchao Zhou Qian Long Jiaying Chen Li Xiang Qiang Li Shenglan Tang Fei Huang Qiang Sun Henry Lucas | 2016 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1: | 6 |

| 6 | Copy number alteration profiling facilitates differential diagnosis between ossifying fibroma and fibrous dysplasia of the jaws显示文摘Ossifying fibroma(OF)and fibrous dysplasia(FD)are two fibro-osseous lesions with overlapping clinicopathological features,making diagnosis challenging.In this study,we applied a whole-genome shallow sequencing approach to facilitate differential diagnosis via precise profiling of copy number alterations(CNAs)using minute amounts of DNA extracted from morphologically correlated microdissected tissue samples.Freshly frozen tissue specimens from OF(n=29)and FD(n=28)patients were obtained for analysis.Lesion fibrous tissues and surrounding normal tissues were obtained by laser capture microdissection(LCM),with~30–50 cells(5000–10000µm2)per sample.We found that the rate of recurrent CNAs in OF cases was much higher(44.8%,13 of 29)than that in FD cases(3.6%,1 of 28).Sixty-nine percent(9 of 13)of the CNA-containing OF cases involved segmental amplifications and deletions on Chrs 7 and 12.We also identified eight CNA-associated genes(HILPDA,CALD1,C1GALT1,MICALL2,PHF14,AIMP2,MDM2,and CDK4)with amplified expression,which was consistent with the copy number changes.We further confirmed a jaw lesion with a previous uncertain diagnosis due to its ambiguous morphological features and the absence of GNAS mutation as OF based on the typical Chr 12 amplification pattern in its CNA profile.Moreover,analysis of a set of longitudinal samples collected from an individual with a cellular lesion in suspicion of OF at the first surgery,recurrence and the latest malignant transformation revealed identical CNA patterns at the three time points,suggesting that copy number profiling can be used as an important tool to identify borderline lesions or lesions with malignant potential.Overall,CNA profiling of fibro-osseous lesions can greatly improve differential diagnosis between OF and FD and help predict disease progression. | Ming Ma Lu Liu Ruirui Shi Jianyun Zhang Xiaotian Li Xuefen Li Jiaying Bai Jianbin Wang Yanyi Huang Tiejun Li | 2021 | International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,2: | 3 |
| 7 | Novel DYW-type pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR) protein BLX controls mitochondrial RNA editing and splicing essential for early seed development of Arabidopsis显示文摘In plants, RNA editing is a post-transcriptional process that changes specific cytidine to uridine in both mitochondria and plastids. Most pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR) proteins are involved in organelle RNA editing by recognizing specific RNA sequences. We here report the functional characterization of a PPR protein from the DYW subclass, Baili Xi(BLX), which contains five PPR motifs and a DYW domain. BLX is essential for early seed development, as plants lacking the BLX gene was embryo lethal and the endosperm failed to initiate cellularization. BLX was highly expressed in the embryo and endosperm, and the BLX protein was specifically localized in mitochondria, which is essential for BLX function. We found that BLX was required for the efficient editing of 36 editing sites in mitochondria. Moreover, BLX was involved in the splicing regulation of the fourth intron of nad1 and the first intron of nad2. The loss of BLX function impaired the mitochondrial function and increased the reactive oxygen species(ROS) level. Genetic complementation with truncated variants of BLX revealed that, in addition to the DYW domain, only the fifth PPR motif was essential for BLX function. The upstream sequences of the BLX-targeted editing sites are not conserved, suggesting that BLX serves as a novel and major mitochondrial editing factor(MEF) via a new non-RNA-interacting manner. | 14 | Resilience patterns of human mobility in response to extreme urban floods显示文摘Large-scale disasters can disproportionately impact different population groups,causing prominent disparity and inequality,especially for the vulnerable and marginalized.Here,we investigate the resilience of human mobility under the disturbance of the unprecedented‘720’Zhengzhou flood in China in 2021 using records of 1.32 billion mobile phone signaling generated by 4.35 million people.We find that although pluvial floods can trigger mobility reductions,the overall structural dynamics of mobility networks remain relatively stable.We also find that the low levels of mobility resilience in female,adolescent and older adult groups are mainly due to their insufficient capabilities to maintain business-as-usual travel frequency during the flood.Most importantly,we reveal three types of counter-intuitive,yet widely existing,resilience patterns of human mobility(namely,‘reverse bathtub’,‘ever-increasing’and‘ever-decreasing’patterns),and demonstrate a universal mechanism of disaster-avoidance response by further corroborating that those abnormal resilience patterns are not associated with people’s gender or age.In view of the common association between travel behaviors and travelers’socio-demographic characteristics,our findings provide a caveat for scholars when disclosing disparities in human travel behaviors during flood-induced emergencies. | Junqing Tang Pengjun Zhao Zhaoya Gong Hongbo Zhao Fengjue Huang Jiaying Li Zhihe Chen Ling Yu Jun Chen | 2023 | National Science Review2023,10,8: | 1 |
