| 2 | Patients with SARS-CoV-2 and HBV coinfection are at risk of greater liver injury显示文摘To date,it remains unclear if severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)co-infection exacerbates liver injury in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection.In this study,we present a retrospective study of 133 hospitalized confirmed mild coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cases,including 116 patients with COVID-19 with negative serum hepatitis B antigen and 17 HBV inactive carriers with COVID-19.We found that there were no significant differences for the discharge rate or duration of hospitalization be-tween the two groups.However,inactive HBV carriers with SARS-CoV-2 co-infection are at a higher risk of abnormal liver function tests.The enhanced liver injury induced by SARS-CoV-2 and HBV co-infection was identified as the hepatocyte type rather than the cholangiocyte type.Moreover,the inflammatory response,including abnormal lactate dehydrogenase,D-dimer and interleukin-6 production,may contribute to this injury following SARS-CoV-2 co-infection.Collectively,SARS-CoV-2 and HBV co-infection exacerbates liver function of the pa-tients with COVID-19. | Yong Lin Jun Yuan Quanxin Long Jieli Hu Haijun Deng Zhenyu Zhao Juan Chen Mengji Lu Ailong Huang | 2021 | Genes & Diseases2021,8,4: | 5 |
| 3 | Serum uric acid and risk of incident diabetes in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults: prospective cohort study显示文摘The association between serum uric acid and the risk of incident diabetes in Chinese adults remains unknown.This study aimed to investigate this association in a community-dwelling population aged≥40 years in Shanghai,China.Oral glucose tole3rance test was conducted during baseline and follow-up visits.Relative risk regression was utilized to examine the associations between baseline gender-specific serum uric acid levels and incident diabetes risk.A total of 613(10.3%)incident diabetes cases were identified during the follow-up visit after 4.5 years.Fasting plasma glucose,postload glucose,and glycated hemoglobin A1c during the follow-up visit progressively increased across the sex-specific quartiles of serum uric acid(all Ps<0.05).The incidence rate of diabetes increased across the quartiles of serum uric acid(7.43%,8.77%,11.47%,and 13.43%).Multivariate adjusted regression analysis revealed that individuals in the highest quartile had 1.36-fold increased risk of diabetes compared with those in the lowest quartile of serum uric acid(odds ratio(95%confidence interval)=1.36(1.06−1.73)).Stratified analysis indicated that the association was only observed in women.Accordingly,serum uric acid was associated with the increased risk of incident diabetes among middle-aged and elderly Chinese women. | Di Cheng Chunyan Hu Rui Du Hongyan Qi Lin Lin Xueyan Wu Lina Ma Kui Peng Mian Li Min Xu Yu Xu Yufang Bi Weiqing Wang Yuhong Chen Jieli Lu | 2020 | Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6: | 3 |

| 5 | Enhanced osteoarthritis therapy by nanoengineered mesenchymal stem cells using biomimetic CuS nanoparticles loaded with plasmid DNA encoding TGF-β1显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)therapy shows the potential benefits to relieve clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis(OA),but it is uncertain if it can repair articular cartilage lesions-the main pathology of OA.Here,we prepared biomimetic cupper sulfide@phosphatidylcholine(CuS@PC)nanoparticles(NPs)loaded with plasmid DNA(pDNA)encoding transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-β1)to engineer MSCs for enhanced OA therapy via cartilage regeneration.We found that the NPs not only promoted cell proliferation and migration,but also presented a higher pDNA transfection efficiency relative to commercial transfection reagent lipofectamine 3000.The resultant CuS/TGF-β1@PC NP-engineered MSCs(termed CTP-MSCs)were better than pure MSCs in terms of chondrogenic gene expression,glycosaminoglycan deposition and type II collagen formation,favoring cartilage repair.Further,CTP-MSCs inhibited extracellular matrix degradation in interleukin-1β-induced chondrocytes.Consequently,intraarticular administration of CTP-MSCs significantly enhanced the repair of damaged cartilage,whereas pure MSCs exhibited very limited effects on cartilage regeneration in destabilization of the medial meniscus(DMM)surgical instability mice.Hence,this work provides a new strategy to overcome the limitation of current stem cell therapy in OA treatment through developing more effective nanoengineered MSCs. | Yu Cai Cuixi Wu Qianhua Ou Muhui Zeng Song Xue Jieli Chen Yao Lu Changhai Ding | 2023 | Bioactive Materials2023,,1: | 2 |

| 12 | Transdifferentiation of pancreatic α-cells into insulinsecreting cells: From experimental models to underlying mechanisms显示文摘Pancreatic insulin-secreting β-cells are essential regulators of glucose metabolism. New strategies are cur-rently being investigated to create insulin-producing β cells to replace deficient β cells, including the differentiation of either stem or progenitor cells, and the newly uncovered transdifferentiation of mature non-β islet cell types. However, in order to correctly drive any cell to adopt a new β-cell fate, a better understanding of the in vivo mechanisms involved in the plasticity and biology of islet cells is urgently required. Here, we review the recent studies reporting the phenomenon of transdifferentiation of α cells into β cells by focusing on the major candidates and contexts revealed to be involved in adult β-cell regeneration through this process. The possible underlying mechanisms of transdifferentiation and the interactions between several key factors involved in the process are also addressed. | 19 | Type 2diabetes is causally associated with depression: a Mendelian randomization analysis显示文摘Type 2diabetes (T2D)has been associated with a high prevalence of depression.We aimed to determine the causal relation by performing a Mendelian randomization (MR)study using 34T2D risk genetic variants validated in East Asians as the instrumental variable (IV).An MR analysis was performed involving 11506 participants from a large longitudinal study.The T2D genetic risk score (GRS)was built using the 34typical T2D common variants.We used T2D_GRS as the IV estimator and performed inverse-variance weighted (IVW)and Egger MR analysis.The T2D_GRS was found to be associated with depression with an OR of 1.21(95%CI:1.07- 1.37)after adjustments for age,sex,body mass index,current smoking and drinking,physical activity,education, and marital status.Using T2D GRS as the IV,we similarly found a causal relationship between genetically determined T2D and depression (OR:1.84,95%CI:1.25-2.70).Though we found no association between the combined effect of the genetic IVs for T2D and depression with Egger MR (OR:0.95,95%CI:0.42-2.14),we found an association for T2D and depression with IVW (OR:1.75,95%CI:1.31-2.46)after excluding pleiotropic SNPs.
