| 1 | Comparison of phylobetadiversity indices based on community data from Gutianshan forest plot显示文摘Phylobetadiversity incorporates phylogenetic information and beta diversity,and can account for the ecological similarities between communities with a phylogenetic perspective.Although different phylobetadiversity indices reflect differences in different characteristics between communities,the results of different phylobetadiversity indices are not comparable.In this study we examined phylobetadiversity indices for a 24-hm 2 plot in the Gutianshan National Nature Reserve.It was found the abundanceweighted D pw was almost identical to Rao's D of Rao's quadratic entropy.PhyloSor had a similar ecological meaning and algorithm to UniFrac.Although Dnn was different in definition from UniFrac and PhyloSor,they were all strongly correlated.The effect of species abundance on phylobetadiversity was not significant when scales were relatively small,but was significant at larger scales.These contrasts likely resulted from reductions in evenness in communities as scales increased.P ST and Rao's H better reflected the distance-decay changes caused by spatial and habitat variation than other indices at larger scales,whereas AW-D nn and D nn better reflected these changes at small scales. | FENG Gang ZHANG JinLong PEI NanCai RAO MiDe MI XiangCheng REN HaiBao MA KePing | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,6: | 9 |
| 2 | Precise measurement of stable (δ^(88/86)Sr) and radiogenic (^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr) strontium isotope ratios in geological standard reference materials using MC-ICP-MS显示文摘A new method for high-precision measurements of stable (δ88/86Sr) and radiogenic (87Sr/86Sr) Sr isotope ratios was developed on the MC-ICP-MS using a standard-sample-standard bracketing protocol. By carefully monitoring and controlling the accumulation of the on-peak backgrounds (i.e. the carryover memory) on the instrument, our method can provide an external precision of around 0.010‰ to 0.014‰ for 88/86 Sr measurements. Such precision is comparable to that achieved by double-spike TIMS method (DS-TIMS), and 2-3 times better than those of the previously reported results by MC-ICP-MS without spiking. The results of the standard seawater IAPSO are also identical to those by DS-TIMS. However, our method is more advantageous, efficient and convenient to use for routine Sr isotopic analysis than the DS-TIMS method as there is no need to prepare and calibrate the 84Sr-87 Sr double spike. Using this method, we measured the δ88/86Sr values in a series of international geological rock standards, which show large variability, with the lowest value (0.20‰) registered in JG-2, a terrestrial granite, and the highest value (0.539‰) in UB-N, a serpentinite. | 4 | Resurrection of the Genus Leptomantis, with Description of a New Genus to the Family Rhacophoridae(Amphibia:Anura)显示文摘Genus Rhacophorus Kuhl and Van Hasselt, 1 822 is one of the most diverse genera of the family Rhacophoridae, and its taxonomy of genus Rhacophorus faces major challenges because of rapidly described new species and complex interspecies relations. In this study, we investigate the generic taxonomy within the genus Rhacophorus based on 1 972 bp of mitochondrial genes(12S rRNA, tRNA-val and 16S rRNA), containing 102 sequences from 58 species. The results reveal three well-supported and highly diverged matrilines that correspond with morphological characteristics and geographic distribution. | 5 | In vitro and in vivo biodegradation and biocompatibility of an MMT/BSA composite coating upon magnesium alloy AZ31显示文摘The performance of biodegradable magnesium alloy requires special attention to rapid degradation and poor biocompatibility, which can cause the implant to fail. Here, a sodium montmorillonite(MMT)/bovine serum albumin(BSA) composite coating was prepared upon magnesium alloy AZ31 via hydrothermal synthesis, followed by dip coating. We evaluated the surface characterization and corrosion behavior in vitro, and the biocompatibility in vitro and in vivo. Biodegradation progress of the MMT-BSA coated Mg pieces was examined through hydrogen evolution, immersion tests, and electrochemical measurements in Hank’s solution. In vitro biocompatibility studies were evaluated via hemolysis tests, dynamic cruor time tests, platelet adhesion, MTT testing and live-dead stain of osteoblast cells(MC3 T3-E1). It was found that the MMT-BSA coating had good corrosion resistance and a marked improvement in biocompatibility in comparison to bare Mg alloy AZ31. in vivo studies were carried out in rat model and the degradation was characterized by computed tomography scans. Results revealed that the MMT-BSA coated Mg alloy AZ31 implants maintained their structural integrity and slight degradation after 120 d of post-implantation. A100% survival rate for the rats was observed with no obvious toxic damages on the organs and tissues.Additionally, we proposed a sound coating formation mechanism. | 6 | The RNA-binding protein Musashi2 governs osteoblast-adipocyte lineage commitment by suppressing PPARγsignaling显示文摘Osteoporosis caused by aging is characterized by reduced bone mass and accumulated adipocytes in the bone marrow cavity. How the balance between osteoblastogenesis and adipogenesis from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) is lost upon aging is still unclear. Here, we found that the RNA-binding protein Musashi2(Msi2) regulates BMSC lineage commitment. Msi2 is commonly enriched in stem cells and tumor cells. We found that its expression was downregulated during adipogenic differentiation and upregulated during osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. Msi2 knockout mice exhibited decreased bone mass with substantial accumulation of marrow adipocytes, similar to aging-induced osteoporosis. Depletion of Msi2 in BMSCs led to increased adipocyte commitment. Transcriptional profiling analysis revealed that Msi2 deficiency led to increased PPARγ signaling.RNA-interacting protein immunoprecipitation assays demonstrated that Msi2 could inhibit the translation of the key adipogenic factor Cebpα, thereby inhibiting PPAR signaling. Furthermore, the expression of Msi2 decreased significantly during the aging process of mice, indicating that decreased Msi2 function during aging contributes to abnormal accumulation of adipocytes in bone marrow and osteoporosis. | 7 | Growth performance of nursery and grower-finisher pigs fed diets supplemented with benzoic acid显示文摘Two experiments were conducted to investigate the efficacy of benzoic acid on the growth performance of nursery and grower-finisher pigs. A randomized complete block design was used in both experiments with the initial body weight as the blocking factor. There were 3 treatments corresponding to 3 dietary levels of benzoic acid: 0, 0.3%, and 0.5%. In experiment 1, a total of 144 PIC L1050 barrows(initial body weight 7.1 ± 0.6 kg) were used with each treatment replicated 8 times. In experiment 2, a total of 288 PIC L1050 barrows(initial body weight 36.1 ± 3.6 kg) were used with each treatment replicated 16 times.There were 6 barrows in each replicate pen for both experiments. Experiments 1 and 2 lasted 28 and 70 days, respectively. In experiment 1, average daily gain(ADG) of all growth phases increased linearly(P < 0.05) with increasing supplementation of benzoic acid, which led to a linear improvement in average body weight on d 28(P < 0.05). There was also an improvement in feed conversion ratio(FCR) of d 0 to 14(linear effect: P < 0.05) and in average daily feed intake(ADFI) of d 14 to 28 and d 0 to 28(linear effect:P < 0.01). In experiment 2, ADG during d 0 to 35 and d 35 to 70 and average body weight on d 35 improved linearly(P < 0.05) with increasing supplementation of benzoic acid. Average daily gain of d 0 to70 and average body weight on d 70 increased significantly in a both linear and quadratic manner. There was a linear improvement in FCR in all growth phases(P < 0.05). | 8 | Optimal design on the high-temperature mechanical properties of porous alumina ceramics based on fractal dimension analysis显示文摘Fractal theory and regression analysis were employed for the first time to investigate the effect of pore size and pore distribution on high-temperature mechanical properties of porous alumina ceramics(PAC). In the present work, PAC with the comparable porosity, different pore sizes and pore distributions were prepared using carbon black as the pore-forming agent. Particular emphasis in this study was placed on the establishment of correlation between the thermal shock resistance and pore properties. The relationship between fractal dimension(D_f) and thermal shock resistance parameter(R_(st)) in specimens presented the negative power function, indicating that low D_f could benefit the improvement of thermal shock resistance in specimens. The results showed that the increase of pore size and pore sphericity leads to a reduced D_f, the enhanced hot modulus of rupture(HMOR) and R_(st). The decrease of proportion of micro-pores below 2 μm, the increase of mean pore size and pore sphericity could result in the decrease of D_f, and then improve R_(st) and HMOR of specimens. | 11 | On the Generic Taxonomy of Opisthotropis balteata(Cope, 1895)(Squamata: Colubridae: Natricinae): Taxonomic Revision of Two Natricine Genera显示文摘The single prefrontal configuration has historically been used as an important diagnostic character for many natricine taxa. For example, the genus Trimerodytes Cope, 1895 was long been regarded as a junior synonym of Opisthotropis Günther, 1872 for their similar prefrontal configurations and the type species, T. balteatus Cope, 1895, has been assigned to the genus Opisthotropis. However, as the number and arrangement of prefrontal vary frequently both at species and generic level, it is questionable whether the synonymization of Trimerodytes reflects their evolutionary relationships. On the basis of recently collected specimens of O. balteata, the generic status of the species was assessed using both molecular and morphological data. Opisthotropis was recovered as polyphyletic with reference to O. balteata, because O. balteata is nested within the genus Sinonatrix Rossman and Eberle, 1977 and is the sister species of the type species of Sinonatrix. Consequently, we herein resurrect the long-overlooked synonym Trimerodytes from Opisthotropis and synonymize the junior generic nomen Sinonatrix with Trimerodytes. In addition, based on morphological similarities between the monotypic genus Paratapinophis Angel, 1929 and Trimerodytes, we doubt about the validity of Paratapinophis. | 12 | Lower abundance of Bacteroides and metabolic dysfunction are highly associated with the post-weaning diarrhea in piglets显示文摘Growing evidences show a direct link between diarrhea and disorders of gut microbiota in pigs.However,whether there are microbial markers associated with post-weaning diarrhea remains unknown.In the current study,we compared the microbial community,functions and metabolites between healthy weaned piglets(group H,n=7)and piglets with post-weaning diarrhea(group D,n=7),in order to find out diarrhea associated microbial markers.Each of 7 fecal samples was collected from H and D piglets(weaned at 21 d and sampled at 26 d).The metagenomic and untargeted metabolomic analysis revealed that the microbial composition,function and metabolic profile in D pigs was considerably reshaped,including the reduced abundance and number of Bacteroides,which significantly correlated with the diarrhea status of host.The carbohydrate metabolism,biosynthesis and metabolism,lipid metabolism,amino acid metabolism,and the activity of glycan and carbohydrates digestion related enzymes showed extensively down-regulated in D pigs compared with H pigs.Diarrhea significantly changed the metabolic profiles of fecal microbiota,and most of the altered metabolites were negatively or positively correlated with the change in the abundance of Bacteroides.In conclusion,the lower abundance of Bacteroides and its associated metabolic dysfunction may be regarded as microbial markers of physiological post-weaning diarrhea in piglets. | Wen Ren Bing Yu Jie Yu Ping Zheng Zhiqing Huang Junqiu Luo Xiangbing Mao Jun He Hui Yan Jinlong Wu Daiwen Chen Yuheng Luo | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,10: | 2 |

| 15 | Flexoelectricity Driven Fano Resonance in Slotted Carbon Nanotubes for Decoupled Multifunctional Sensing显示文摘Multifunctionality,interference-free signal readout,and quantum effect are important considerations for flexible sensors equipped within a single unit towards further miniaturization.To address these criteria,we present the slotted carbon nanotube(CNT)junction features tunable Fano resonance driven by flexoelectricity,which could serve as an ideal multimodal sensory receptor.Based on extensive ab initio calculations,we find that the effective Fano factor can be used as a temperature-insensitive extrinsic variable for sensing the bending strain,and the Seebeck coefficient can be used as a strain-insensitive intrinsic variable for detecting temperature.Thus,this dual-parameter permits simultaneous sensing of temperature and strain without signal interference.We further demonstrate the applicability of this slotted junction to ultrasensitive chemical sensing which enables precise determination of donor-type,acceptor-type,and inert molecules.This is due to the enhancement or counterbalance between flexoelectric and chemical gating.Flexoelectric gating would preserve the electron–hole symmetry of the slotted junction whereas chemical gating would break it.As a proof-of-concept demonstration,the slotted CNT junction provides an excellent quantum platform for the development of multistimuli sensation in artificial intelligence at the molecular scale. | Jinlong Ren Yingchao Liu Xingqiang Shi Guangcun Shan Mingming Tang Chaocheng Kaun Kunpeng Dou | 2021 | Research2021,,1: | 1 |
