| 1 | What is going on in magnesium alloys?显示文摘China has been developed into one of the most active regions in terms of both fundamental and applied research on magnesium(Mg) and its alloys in the world from a solid base laid by its prominent metallurgist and materials scientists over the past decades. Nowadays, a large number of young-generation researchers have been inspired by their predecessors and become the key participants in the fields of Mg alloys, which consequently led to the establishment of China Youth Scholar Society for Magnesium Alloys Research in 2015. Since then, the first two China Youth Scholars Symposiums on Mg Alloys Research had been held at Harbin(2015) and Chongqing(2016) China, respectively. A number of crucial research interests related to fundamental and applied Mg research were discussed at the conferences and summarized in this short perspective, aiming to boost far-reaching initiatives for development of new Mg-based materials to satisfy the requirements for a broad range of industrial employments. Herein, four main aspects are included as follows: i) Plastic deformation mechanism and strengthening strategy, ii) Design and development of new Mg-based materials, iii) Key service properties, and iv) New processing technologies. | X.J. | 3 | EFFECT OF INTERPHASE LIFT FORCE ON THE FLUID FLOW IN AN AIR-STIRRED CYLINDRICAL VESSEL显示文摘In the present paper, based on the two-phase model (Eulerian model), the two dimensional fluid flow liz air-stirred water systems is simulated, and the effect of interphase lift force on the fluid flow is specially discussed. In the Eulerian two-phase model, gas and liquid phase are considered to be two different continuous fluids interacting with each other through the finite inter-phase areas. The exchange between the phases is represented by source terms in conversation equations. Turbulence is assumed to be a property of the liquid phase, k - ε model is used to describe the behavior of the liquid phase. The dispersion of phases due to turbulence is represented by introducing a diffusion term in mass consecrvation equation. The contribution of bubble movement to the turbulent energy and its dissipation rate is taken into accounted by adding extra volumetric source terms to the equations of turbulent enemy and its dissipation rate. The comparison between the mathematical simulation and experiment data indicates that the interphase lift force has a big effect on the flow behavior, and considering both drug force and lift force as interphase forces is important to accurately simulate the gas-water two-phase fluid flow in air-stirred systems. The interphase lift force makes bubbles move away from the centerline, the gas concentration is decreased near the centerline, and increased near the wall. | 6 | Magnetotelluric investigation of lithospheric electrical structure beneath the Dharwar Craton in south India:Evidence for mantle suture and plume-continental interaction显示文摘Broad-band and long period magnetotelluric measurements made at 63 locations along -500 km long Chikmagalur-Kavali profile,that cut across the Dharwar craton (DC) and Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt (EGMB) in south India,is modelled to examine the lithosphere architecture of the cratonic domain and define tectonic boundaries.The 2-D resistivity model shows moderately conductive features that intersperse a highly resistive background of crystalline rocks and spatially connect to the exposed schist belts or granitic intrusions in the DC.These features are therefore interpreted as images of fossil pathways of the volcanic emplacements associated with the greenstone belt and granite suite formation exposed in the region.A near vertical conductive feature in the upper mantle under the Chitradurga Shear Zone represents the Archean suture between the western and eastern blocks of DC.Although thick (-200 km) cratonic (highly resistive) lithosphere is preserved,significant part of the cratonic lithosphere below the western DC is modified due to plume-continental lithosphere interactions during the CretaceouseTertiary period.A west-verging moderately conductive feature imaged beneath EGMB lithosphere is interpreted as the remnant of the Proterozoic collision process between the Indian land mass and East Antarctica.Thin (-120 km) lithosphere is seen below the EGMB,which form the exterior margin of the India shield subsequent to its separation from East Antarctica through rifting and opening of the Indian Ocean in the Cretaceous. | D.
