1Repurposing vitamin D for treatment of human malignancies via targeting tumor microenvironment显示文摘Tumor cells along with a small proportion of cancer stem cells exist in a stromal microenvironment consisting of vasculature, cancer-associated fibroblasts, immune cells and extracellular components.Recent epidemiological and clinical studies strongly support that vitamin D supplementation is associated with reduced cancer risk and favorable prognosis. Experimental results suggest that vitamin D not only suppresses cancer cells, but also regulates tumor microenvironment to facilitate tumor repression. In this review, we have outlined the current knowledge on epidemiological studies and clinical trials of vitamin D. Notably, wesummarized and discussed the anticancer action of vitamin D in cancer cells, cancer stem cells and stroma cells in tumor microenvironment, providing a better understanding of the role of vitamin D in cancer. 2Special Section:SARS-CoV-2 Preliminary evidence from a multicenter prospective observational study of the safety and efficacy of chloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19显示文摘Effective therapies are urgently needed for the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.Chloroquine has been proved to have antiviral effect against coronavirus in vitro.In this study,we aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of chloroquine with different doses in COVID-19.In this multicenter prospective observational study,we enrolled patients older than 18 years old with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection excluding critical cases from 12 hospitals in Guangdong and Hubei Provinces.Eligible patients received chloroquinephosphate s00 mg,orally,once(half dose)or twice(full dose)daily.Patients treated with non-chloroquine therapy were included as historical controls.The primary endpoint is the time to undetectable viral RNA.Secondary outcomes include the proportion of patients with undetectable viral RNA by day 10 and 14,hospitalization time,duration of fever,and adverse events.A total of 197 patients completed chloroquine treatment,and 176patients were included as historical controls.The median time to achieve an undetectable viral RNA was shorter in chloroquine than in non-chloroquine(absolute difference in medians-6.0 days;95%CI-6.0 to—4.0).The duration of fever is shorter in chloroquine(geometric mean ratio 0.6;95%CIO.5 to 0.8).No serious adverse events were observed in the chloroquine group.Patients treated with half dose experienced lower rate of adverse events than with full dose.Although randomized trials are needed for further evaluation,this study provides evidence for safety and efficacy of chloroquine in COVID-19 and suggests that chloroquine can be a cost-effective therapy for combating the COVID-19 pandemic.Mingxing Huang Man Li Fei Xiao Pengfei Pang Jiabi Liang Tiantian Tang Shaoxuan Liu Binghui Chen Jingxian Shu Yingying You Yang Li Meiwen Tang Jianhui Zhou Guanmin Jiang Jingfen Xiang Wenxin Hong Songmei He Zhaoqin Wang Jianhua Feng Changqing Lin Yinong Ye Zhilong Wu Yaocai Li Bei Zhong Ruilin Sun Zhongsi Hong Jing Liu Huili Chen Xiaohua Wang Zhonghe Li Duanqing Pei Lin Tian Jinyu Xia Shanping Jiang Nanshan Zhong Hong Shan 2020National Science Review2020,7,9:20

4TRIM29 prevents hepatocellular carcinoma progression by inhibiting Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway显示文摘TRIM29 plays an important role in many neoplasms.In this study,we aimed to elucidate its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and explore the corresponding potential mechanism.The expression level of TRIM29 in HCC samples and hepatoma cell lines was detected.We found that TRIM29 was down-regulated in clinical HCC samples and cultured hepatoma cell lines by western blot analysis and quantitative polymerase chain reaction.In addition,we demonstrated that higher TRIM29 expression was associated with higher differentiation grade of HCC.To explore the effect of TRIM29 on hepatoma cells and its possible mechanisms,TRIM29-knockdown and overexpression cell models were constructed.The results showed that the depletion of TRIM29 promoted liver cancer cell proliferation,clone formation,migration and invasion in vitro probably through the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.This study revealed the inhibitory roles of TRIM29 in HCC and the possible mechanisms.Mingxing Xu Jingxiong Hu Boxuan Zhou Yuesi Zhong Nan Lin Ruiyun Xu 2019Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2019,51,1:9
5The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE) mission: An overview显示文摘The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE), dubbed “Xihe”—Goddess of the Sun, was launched on October 14, 2021 as the first solar space mission of China National Space Administration(CNSA). The CHASE mission is designed to test a newly developed satellite platform and to acquire the spectroscopic observations in the Hα waveband. The Hα Imaging Spectrograph(HIS)is the scientific payload of the CHASE satellite. It consists of two observational modes: raster scanning mode and continuum imaging mode. The raster scanning mode obtains full-Sun or region-of-interest spectral images from 6559.7 to 6565.9 ? and from 6567.8 to 6570.6 ? with 0.024 ? pixel spectral resolution and 1 min temporal resolution. The continuum imaging mode obtains photospheric images in continuum around 6689 ? with the full width at half maximum of 13.4 ?. The CHASE mission will advance our understanding of the dynamics of solar activity in the photosphere and chromosphere. 6Enhancement of the immobilization and discrimination of DNA probe on a biosensor using gold nanoparticles显示文摘Nanoparticles have been widely utilized in biological research in recent years. 1,6-Hexanedithiol was used as the medium in this work to attach Au nanoparticles on thegold plates. We studied the immobilization and hybridization of DNA probes onto the resulted plates using the quartz crystal microbalance method. Approximately 3-5 times adsorption enhancement of HS-DNA on the plates was obtained under our experimental conditions. 7Rural Informal Taxation in China:Historical Evolution and an Analytic Framework显示文摘The present paper examines the historical evolution of China's rural taxation system from the pre-reform period to the late 1990s. We propose that because of information asymmetry between the upper-level and the lower-level governments, local governments had to be granted some informal tax autonomy to fulfill the upper-level policy mandates. This easily led to excessive local informal taxation on farmers. As market liberalization of the grain sector progressed, the low-cost tax instruments implemented through the traditional approach of implicit taxation gradually eroded. Local governments in agricultural regions had to resort to informal fees collected directly from individual rural households while the more industrialized regions shifted to non-agricultural taxes that are less costly in terms of tax collection. 8Rock Breaking Performance of a Pick Assisted by High-pressure Water Jet under Different Configuration Modes显示文摘In the process of rock breaking, the conical pick bears great cutting force and wear, as a result, high-pressure water jet technology is used to assist with cutting. However, the effect of the water jet position has not been studied for rock breaking using a pick. Therefore, the models of rock breaking with different configuration modes of the water jet are established based on SPH combined with FEM. The effect of the water jet pressure, distance between the jet and the pick bit, and cutting depth on the rock breaking performance as well as a comparison of the tension and compression stress are studied via simulation; the simulation results are verified by experiments. The numerical and experimental results indicate that the decrease in the rates of the pick force obviously increases from 25 MPa to 40 MPa, but slowly after 40 MPa, and the optimal distance between the jet and the pick bit is 2 mm under the JFP and JSP modes. The JCP mode is proved the best, followed by the modes of JRP and JFP, and the worst mode is JSP. The decrease in the rates of the pick force of the JCP, JRP, JFP, and JSP modes are up to 30.96%, 28.96%, 33.46%, 28.17%, and 25.42%, respectively, in experiment. Moreover, the JSP mode can be regarded as a special JFP model when the distance between the pick-tip and the jet impact point is 0 mm. 9Improvements on physical conditions of bauxite residue following application of organic materials显示文摘Soil formation and ecological rehabilitation is the most promising strategy to eliminate environmental risks of bauxite residue disposal areas. Its poor physical structure is nevertheless a major limitation to plant growth. Organic materials were demonstrated as effective ameliorants to improve the physical conditions of bauxite residue. In this study, three different organic materials including straw(5% W/W), humic acid(5% W/W), and humic acidacrylamide polymer(0.2% and 0.4%, W/W) were selected to evaluate their effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue pretreated by phosphogypsum following a 120-day incubation experiment. The proportion of 2-1 mm macro-aggregates, mean weight diameter(MWD) and geometric mean diameter(GWD) increased following organic materials addition, which indicated that organic materials could enhance aggregate stability. Compared with straw, and humic acid, humic acid-acrylamide polymer application had improved effects on the formation of water-stable aggregates in the residues. Furthermore, organic materials increased the total porosity, total pore volume and average pore diameter, and reduced the micropore content according to nitrogen gas adsorption(NA) and mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)analysis, whilst enhancing water retention of the residues based on water characteristic curves. Compared with traditional organic wastes, humic acid-acrylamide polymer could be regarded as a candidate according to the comprehensive consideration of the additive amount and the effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue. 15Urban Metabolic Efficiencies and Elasticities of Chinese Cities显示文摘Urban metabolism is a complex system of materials, energy, population and environment, which usually can be measured by the Emergy Synthesis(ES) and the Slacks-Based Measure(SBM) approach. In this paper, by employing the two approaches of ES and SBM, as well as metabolic evolution index, urban metabolic stocks, efficiencies and elasticity of 31 Chinese cities are evaluated in a systematic way. The results imply that over the last decade(2000–2010), most of the cities, such as Chongqing, Nanjing, Shijiazhuang, Hangzhou, were experiencing drastic urban metabolic efficiency decline accompanied with a moderate decrease of industrial outputs. By contrast, metropolises and specialized cities have improved their urban metabolic performances, with higher output-input ratio and fewer undesirable outputs. However, their exported emergy experienced a substantial increase as well. It is concluded that local urban management might develop policies to diversify urban renewable supplies and address the undesirable output problems. The urban emergy of renewable resources should be specified as a prime focus for future research.
