1Arctic Sea Ice Decline Intensified Haze Pollution in Eastern China显示文摘Air quality in eastern China has becoming more and more worrying in recent years, and haze is now No.1 air pollution issue. Results in this study show the decreasing Arctic sea ice(ASI) is an important contributor to the recent increased haze days in eastern China. The authors find that the number of winter haze days(WHD) in eastern China is strongly negatively correlated with the preceding autumn ASI during 1979–2012, and about 45%– 67% of the WHD interannual to interdecadal variability can be explained by ASI variability. Following previous studies on the impact of ASI loss on the northern hemisphere climate, the authors' studies further reveal that the reduction of autumn ASI leads to positive sea-level pressure anomalies in mid-latitude Eurasia, northward shift of track of cyclone activity in China, and weak Rossby wave activity in eastern China south of 40N during winter season. These atmospheric circulation changes favor less cyclone activity and more stable atmosphere in eastern China, leading to more haze days there. Furthermore, the patterns of circulation changes associated with autumn ASI and WHD are in very good agreement over the East Asia, particularly in eastern China. 4Glacial change in the vicinity of Mt. 6The role of aluminum sensing and signaling in plant aluminum resistance显示文摘As researchers have gained a better understanding in recent years into the physiological, molecular, and genetic basis of how plants deal with aluminum(Al) toxicity in acid soils prevalent in the tropics and sub‐tropics, it has become clear that an important component of these responses is the triggering and regulation of cellular pathways and processes by Al. In this review of plant Al signaling, we begin by summarizing the understanding of physiological mechanisms of Al resistance, which first led researchers to realize that Al stress induces gene expression and modifies protein function during the activation of Al resistance responses. Subsequently, an overview of Al resistance genes and their function provides verification that Al induction of gene expression plays a major role in Al resistance in many plant species. More recent research into the mechanistic basis for Al‐induced transcriptional activation of resistance genes has led to the identification of several transcription factors as well as cis‐elements in the promoters of Al resistance genes that play a role in greater Al‐induced gene expression as well as higher constitutive expression of resistance genes in some plant species. 7Predicting Potential Distribution of Tibetan Spruce (Picea smithiana) in Qomolangma (Mount Everest) National Nature Preserve Using Maximum Entropy Niche-based Model显示文摘Tibetan spruce (Picea smithiana) is an endemic species of the Himalayas,and it distributes only in a re-stricted area with very low number.To address the lack of detailed distributional information,we used maximum en-tropy (Maxent) niche-based model to predict the species' potential distribution from limited occurrence-only records.The location data of P.smithiana,relative bioclimatic variables,vegetation data,digital elevation model (DEM),and the derived data were analyzed in Maxent.The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was applied to assess the prediction accuracy.The Maxent jackknife test was performed to quantify the training gains from data layers and the response of P.smithiana distribution to four typical environmental variables was analyzed.Results show that the model performs well at the regional scale.There is a potential for continued expansion of P.smithiana population numbers and distribution in China.P.smithiana potentially distributes in the lower reaches of Gyirong Zangbo and Poiqu rivers in Gyirong and Nyalam counties in Qomolangma (Mount Everest) National Nature Preserve (QNNP),China.The species prefers warm temperate climate in mountain area and mainly distributes in needle-leaved evergreen closed to open forest and mixed forest along the river valley at relatively low altitudes of about 2000-3000 m.Model simulations suggest that distribution patterns of rare species with few species numbers can be well predicted by Max-ent.ZHANG Jiping ZHANG Yili LIU Linshan NIE Yong 2011Chinese Geographical Science2011,21,4:15
8Sensitivity of sea ice and ocean simulations to sea ice salinity in a coupled global climate model显示文摘The impacts of the spatiotemporal variations of sea ice salinity on sea ice and ocean characteristics have not been studied in detail, as the existing climate models neglect or misrepresent this process. To address this issue, this paper formulated a parameterization with more realistic sea ice salinity budget, and examined the sensitivity of sea ice and ocean simulations to the ice salinity variations and associated salt flux into the ocean using a coupled global climate model. Results show that the inclusion of such a parameterization leads to an increase and thickening of sea ice in the Eurasian Arctic and within the ice pack in the Antarctic circumpolar region, and a weakening of the North Atlantic Deep Water and a strengthening of the Antarctic Bottom Water. 9The global oxygen budget and its future projection显示文摘Atmospheric oxygen (O_2 ) is the most crucial element on earth for the aerobic organisms that depend on it to release energy from carbon-based macromolecules. This is the first study to systematically analyze the global O_2 budget and its changes over the past 100 years. It is found that anthropogenic fossil fuel combustion is the largest contributor to the current O_2 deficit, which consumed 2.0 Gt/a in 1900 and has increased to 38.2 Gt/a by 2015. Under the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) RCP8.5 scenario, approximately 100Gt (gigatonnes) of O_2 would be removed from the atmosphere per year until 2100,and the O_2 concentration will decrease from its current level of 20.946%to 20.825%. Human activities have caused irreversible decline of atmospheric O_2 . 10Factors associated with fatigue in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patients with antiretroviral drug adverse reactions: a retrospective study显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively study the prevalence of fatigue and factors associated with fatigue among acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients with antiretroviral drug adverse re-ctions. METHODS: Data were collected from case reportforms (CRFs) for a project funded by the 11th National 5-year Special Science and Technology Program on Major Infectious Diseases. Fatigue was defined by patient self-report. The outcomes were the prevalence of fatigue and the potential risk factors of fatigue. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify the factors associated with fatigue. RESULTS: Among the 228 subjects, the prevalence of fatigue was 86.8%. In univariate analysis, the significant differences in demographic characteristics between patients with and without fatigue were: gender [OR=2.29; 95% CI (1.05-4.98)], education level [OR=0.40; 95% CI (0.18-0.85)], anemia [OR=3.80; 95% CI (1.27-11.31)], time of HIV diagnosis [OR= 0.29; 95% CI (0.13-0.65)], and route of infection [OR= 0.14; 95% CI (0.06-0.32)]. Abnormal taste and rapid pulse were more commonly seen in patients with fatigue (P<0.05), while abdominal distension and lumbar soreness were encountered less often in patients with fatigue (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that the four main factors associated with fatigue were anemia [OR=3.50; 95% CI (1.01-12.15)], route of infection [OR=3.40; 95% CI (1.21-9.58); P= 0.02<0.05], lumbar soreness [OR=0.06; 95% CI (0.02-0.18); P=0.000<0.05], and rapid pulse [OR= 10.58; 95% CI (2.16-51.75); P=0.004<0.05]. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that fa- tigue is common (86.8% prevalence) in AIDS patients with antiretroviral drug adverse reactions, and that anemia, route of infection (i.e., non-commercial blood donation) and rapid pulse were risk factors, while lumbar soreness was a protective factor related to fatigue. 13Towards reliable Arctic sea ice prediction using multivariate data assimilation显示文摘Rapid declines in Arctic sea ice have captured attention and pose significant challenges to a variety of stakeholders. There is a rising demand for Arctic sea ice prediction at daily to seasonal time scales, which is partly a sea ice initial condition problem. Thus, a multivariate data assimilation that integrates sea ice observations to generate realistic and skillful model initialization is needed to improve predictive skill of Arctic sea ice. Sea ice data assimilation is a relatively new research area. In this review paper, we focus on two challenges for implementing multivariate data assimilation systems for sea ice forecast. First, to address the challenge of limited spatiotemporal coverage and large uncertainties of observations, we discuss sea ice parameters derived from satellite remote sensing that(1) have been utilized for improved model initialization, including concentration, thickness and drift, and(2) are currently under development with the potential for enhancing the predictability of Arctic sea ice, including melt ponds and sea ice leads. 15Differences in acquired immune deficiency syndrome treatment and evaluation strategies between Chinese and Western Medicine显示文摘Complementary and alternative medicine, including Chinese medicine(CM), has been used to treat acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS) for almost 30 years. We aimed to compare the main differences between AIDS treatment and evaluation strategies between CM and Western Medicine(WM), and analyze advantages and disadvantages.The characteristics of integrative medicine(IM),based on CM and WM, include a patient-centered mode of medicine based on evidence. IM focuses on complex intervention and management with systemic and individual treatment. The evaluation indexes of IM might consist of objective indicators and subjective indexes. 16Estimation of Gridded Atmospheric Oxygen Consumption from 1975 to 2018显示文摘Atmospheric Oxygen(O2)is one of the dominating features that allow the earth to be a habitable planet with advanced civilization and diverse biology.However,since the late 1980 s,observational data have indicated a steady decline in O2 content on the scale of parts-per-million level.The current scientific consensus is that the decline is caused by the fossil-fuel combustion;however,few works have been done to quantitatively evaluate the response of O2 cycle under the anthropogenic impact,at both the global and regional scales.This paper manages to quantify the land O2 flux and makes the initial step to quantificationally describe the anthropogenic impacts on the global O2 budget.Our estimation reveals that the global O2 consumption has experienced an increase from 33.69±1.11 to47.63±0.80 Gt(gigaton,109 t)O2yr^-1 between 2000 and 2018,while the land production of O2(totaling 11.34±13.48 Gt O2yr^-1 averaged over the same period)increased only slightly.In 2018,the combustion of fossil-fuel and industrial activities(38.45±0.61 Gt O2yr^-1)contributed the most to consumption,followed by wildfires(4.97±0.48 Gt O2yr^-1)as well as livestock and human respiration processes(2.48±0.16 and 1.73±0.13 Gt O2yr^-1,respectively).Burning of fossil-fuel that causes large O2 fluxes occurs in East Asia,India,North America,and Europe,while wildfires that cause large fluxes in comparable magnitude are mainly distributed in central Africa.Xiaoyue LIU Jianping HUANG Jiping HUANG Changyu LI Lei DING Wenjun MENG 2020Journal of Meteorological Research2020,34,3:8
17Survival rate:an indicator of the management of acquired immune deficiency syndrome using Traditional Chinese Medicine显示文摘Complementary and alternative medicine,including Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),has been used as therapy against acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS) for almost 30 years. Based on evaluation indicators for AIDS treatment using TCM,we discuss why the survival rate(which has been used widely in Western Medicine) should be adopted as a new important indicator of TCM treatment for AIDS. 18Albedo of Coastal Landfast Sea Ice in Prydz Bay,Antarctica:Observations and Parameterization显示文摘The snow/sea-ice albedo was measured over coastal landfast sea ice in Prydz Bay, East Antarctica(off Zhongshan Station)during the austral spring and summer of 2010 and 2011. The variation of the observed albedo was a combination of a gradual seasonal transition from spring to summer and abrupt changes resulting from synoptic events, including snowfall, blowing snow, and overcast skies. The measured albedo ranged from 0.94 over thick fresh snow to 0.36 over melting sea ice. It was found that snow thickness was the most important factor influencing the albedo variation, while synoptic events and overcast skies could increase the albedo by about 0.18 and 0.06, respectively. The in-situ measured albedo and related physical parameters(e.g., snow thickness, ice thickness, surface temperature, and air temperature) were then used to evaluate four different snow/ice albedo parameterizations used in a variety of climate models. The parameterized albedos showed substantial discrepancies compared to the observed albedo, particularly during the summer melt period, even though more complex parameterizations yielded more realistic variations than simple ones. A modified parameterization was developed,which further considered synoptic events, cloud cover, and the local landfast sea-ice surface characteristics. 20Mechanism and characteristics of thermal action of HMX explosive mixture containing high-efficiency fuel显示文摘In this study, the thermal stability and detonation properties of three types of explosives were investigated. Results indicated that nanoaluminum powder improved the detonation properties of HMX by increasing the specific surface area of HMX, which substantially increased the explosion heat and power. The decomposition temperatures of the three explosives containing aluminum hydride, ammonia borane, and nanoaluminum powder during slow cook-off at heating rates of 1.5 and 10°C min–1 were measured as 246°C and 241°C, 256°C and 261°C, and 238°C and 264°C, respectively. The explosives containing hydrogen storage materials swelled; however, the nanoaluminum powder was only slightly peeled off at the edge of the grains during cookoff. Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) curves of the explosives containing hydrogen storage materials exhibited endothermic and exothermic peaks before the major exothermic reaction peak during the cook-off tests. In contrast, only one weak peak was observed in the DSC curve of the explosive containing nanoaluminum powder before the major exothermic reaction. In addition, the additives and adhesives catalyzed the slow cook-off decomposition, which caused the transformation of HMX crystals and accelerated the thermal decomposition reaction of HMX. The addition of high-density hydrogen storage materials to HMX resulted in detonation heats and explosion powers much greater than cure HMX. This improved performance was attributed to the hydrogen storage materials in the explosives participating in a secondary reaction in the reaction zone at the instant of the explosion, effectively realizing complementary lossless energy and thus greatly improving the explosive power of the explosives.LIU JiPing YANG WeiWei LIU Ying LIU XiaoBo 2019Science China(Technological Sciences)2019,62,4:6
