Wheat genomic study for genetic improvement of traits in China显示文摘Bread wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)is a major crop that feeds 40%of the world’s population.Over the past several decades, advances in genomics have led to tremendous achievements in understanding the origin and domestication of wheat, and the genetic basis of agronomically important traits, which promote the breeding of elite varieties. In this review,we focus on progress that has been made in genomic research and genetic improvement of traits such as grain yield,end-use traits, flowering regulation, nutrient use efficiency, and biotic and abiotic stress responses, and various breeding strategies that contributed mainly by Chinese scientists.Functional genomic research in wheat is entering a new era with the availability of multiple reference wheat genome assemblies and the development of cutting-edge technologies such as precise genome editing tools, highthroughput phenotyping platforms,sequencing-based cloning strategies,high-efficiency genetic transformation systems, and speed-breeding facilities. These insights will further extend our understanding of the molecular mechanisms and regulatory networks underlying agronomic traits and facilitate the breeding process, ultimately contributing to more sustainable agriculture in China and throughout the world. | Jun Xiao Bao Liu Yingyin Yao Zifeng Guo Haiyan Jia Lingrang Kong Aimin Zhang Wujun Ma Zhongfu Ni Shengbao Xu Fei Lu Yuannian Jiao Wuyun Yang Xuelei Lin Silong Sun Zefu Lu Lifeng Gao Guangyao Zhao Shuanghe Cao Qian Chen Kunpu Zhang Mengcheng Wang Meng Wang Zhaorong Hu Weilong Guo Guoqiang Li Xin Ma Junming Li Fangpu Han Xiangdong Fu Zhengqiang Ma Daowen Wang Xueyong Zhang Hong-Qing Ling Guangmin Xia Yiping Tong Zhiyong Liu Zhonghu He Jizeng Jia Kang Chong | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,9: | 9
The effects of vegetation restoration strategies and seasons on soil enzyme activities in the Karst landscapes of Yunnan, southwest China显示文摘Soil enzymes play a vital role in biogeochemical cycling and ecosystem functions. In this study,we examined the response of six soil enzymes to changes in physicochemical properties resulting from changes in season and vegetation and geological conditions.Catalase, urease, acid phosphatase, invertase, amylase, and cellulase not only promote carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycling, but also participate in the decomposition of harmful substances.Thirty-six soil samples were collected from karst and non-karst areas in two different seasons and from three different types of vegetation in Yunnan province, southwest China. Both vegetation types and season had significant effects on soil physicochemical properties and enzyme activities. In the same plot, soil water content, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus increased in the rainy season, indicating enhanced microbial metabolic activity. With the exception of urease activity, the remaining five enzymes showed higher activity in the rainy season.Changes in activities between the two seasons were significant in all samples. In the same season, activity levels of soil enzymes were higher in karst areas than in non-karst areas, and higher in natural forest than in artificial forests. The transformative abilities of soil elements are higher in karst areas than in non-karst areas, and higher in natural forests than in artificial forests.Correlation analysis showed that the activities of the six enzymes correlated significantly;however, soil physical and chemical indices, such as organic matter,pH,and moisture, which are essential for enzyme activity, differed by season.Redundancy analysis also revealed that the main factors influencing enzyme activity differed between the two seasons. The results from this study provide a theoretical basis for further research on the restoration of natural ecological systems in karst landscapes. | Zhouzhou Fan Shuyu Lu Shuang Liu Zhaorong Li Jiaxin Hong Jinxing Zhou Xiawei Peng | 2020 | Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,5: | 5
Genetic improvement of heat tolerance in wheat:Recent progress in understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms显示文摘As a cool season crop, wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) has an optimal daytime growing temperature of 15 ℃ during the reproductive stage. With global climate change, heat stress is becoming an increasingly severe constraint on wheat production. In this review, we summarize recent progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms of heat tolerance in wheat. We firstly describe the impact of heat tolerance on morphology and physiology and its potential effect on agronomic traits. We then review recent discoveries in determining the genetic and molecular factors affecting heat tolerance, including the effects of phytohormone signaling and epigenetic regulation. Finally, we discuss integrative strategies to improve heat tolerance by utilization of existing germplasm including modern cultivars, landraces and related species. | Zhongfu Ni Hongjian Li Yue Zhao Huiru Peng Zhaorong Hu Mingming Xin Qixin Sun | 2018 | The Crop Journal2018,6,1: | 4
Characterization and biological evaluation of a novel silver nanoparticle-loaded collagen-chitosan dressing显示文摘Effective coverage and protection is a priority in wound treatment.Collagen and chitosan have been widely used for wound dressings due to their excellent biological activity and biocompatibility.Silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)have a powerful antibacterial effect. In this study,a macromolecular and small-molecular collagen mixed solution,a macromolecular and small-molecular chitosan mixed solution were prepared, and a silver nanoparticle-loaded collagen-chitosan dressing(AgNPCCD)has been proposed.First, the effects of a collagen-chitosan mixed solution on the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells and the secretion of cytokines were evaluated. Then, the characteristics and antibacterial effects of the AgNP-CCD were tested, and the effects on wound healing and the influence of wound cytokine expression were investigated via a deep second-degree burn wound model. The results showed that at the proper proportion and concentration, the collagen-chitosan mixed solution effectively promoted cell proliferation and regulated the levels of growth factors(vascular endothelial growth factor[VEGF],epidermal growth factor[EGF],plateletderived growth factor[PDGF],transforming growth factor[TGF-b1],basic fibroblastic growth factor[bFGF])and inflammatory factors(TNF-α,IL-1β,IL-6,IL-8).Moreover,AgNP solutions at lower concentrations exerted limited inhibitory effects on cell proliferation and had no effect on cytokine secretion. The AgNP-CCD demonstrated satisfactory morphological and physical properties as well as efficient antibacterial activities. An in vivo evaluation indicated that AgNP-CCD could accelerate the healing process of deep second-degree burn wounds and played an important role in the regulation of growth and inflammatory factors, including VEGF,EGFL-7,TGF-β1,bFGF,TNF-α and IL-1β.This AgNP-CCD exerted excellent biological effects on wound healing promotion and cytokine expression regulation. | Rongfu Li Zhaorong Xu Qiong Jiang Yunquan Zheng Zhaohong Chen Xiaodong Chen | 2020 | Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,4: | 4
A new method for quantitatively characterizing atmospheric oxidation capacity显示文摘Based on atmospheric chemical kinetics, the rate constant of overall pseudo-first order oxidation re-moval of gaseous pollutants (Kpor,T) is proposed to characterize the atmospheric oxidation capacity in troposphere. Being a quantitative parameter, Kpor,T can be used to address the issues related to at-mospheric oxidation capacity. By applying this method, the regional oxidation capacity of the atmos-phere in Pearl River Delta (PRD) is numerically simulated based on CBM-IV chemical mechanism. Re-sults show the significant spatio-temporal variation of the atmospheric oxidation capacity in PRD. It is found that OH initiated oxidations, heterogeneous oxidation of SO2, and photolysis of aldehydes are the three most important oxidation processes influencing the atmospheric oxidation capacity in PRD. | CHENG YanLi WANG XueSong LIU ZhaoRong BAI YuHua LI JinLong | 2008 | Science China Chemistry2008,51,11: | 2

Discoveries and functions of virus-encoded MicroRNAs显示文摘Virus-encoded microRNAs (miRNAs) are a new kind of miRNAs that regulate the expression of target gene in host cells or viruses through inducing cleavage of mRNA, repressing translation, etc., and change the processes of host cells or replicate viruses to escape or resist immune surveillance of host and protect viruses themselves. It has become a hot topic to discover viral genes encoding miRNAs and their target genes, and to identify their functions. This review provides background information on the history of virally encoded miRNAs including their genomic distribution, functions and mechanisms. In addition, we discuss the similarities and differences between virus- and host-encoded miRNAs, the future directions of researches in viral miRNAs and their applications in diseases control and therapy. | JIA WanZhong LI Zhi LUN ZhaoRong | 2008 | Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,2: | 1

Clinicopathological parameters of cervical cancer based on the expression of p16INK4A proteins显示文摘Objective: To retrospectively analyze the clinical data of 275 cases of cervical cancer (CC) in our hospital, and investigate the clinicopathological parameters of cervical cancer based on the expression of p16INK4A proteins. Methods: The clinical information of 275 patients with cervical cancer were retrospectively analyzed between 2006 and 2011, including the patients' age, clinical FIGO stage, differentiation, histologic grade, infiltration depth, treatment, pathological diagnosis after surgery, and results of following-up.Immunohistochemistry was also done on sections of confirmed cancer specimens without prior chemotherapy/radiotherapy. Results: Among various clinicopathological parameters, the median age was 48 years old. The grade was significantly associated with histological type, HPV infection and with lymph node invasion. FIGO stage was strongly correlated to the infiltration depth and lymph node metastasis. P16INK4A expression was significantly correlated with histologic grade. However, there were no differences between p16INK4A staining and patient's age, histopathology and lymph node metastases. Conclusion: The incidence of cervical cancer becomes increasingly younger. Additionally, p16INK4A can function as a diagnostic marker of cervical carcinomas. | Li Mu Yang Jun SH Boshan Xue Xiang Gao Qing Li Zhaorong Li Zongfang | 2012 | Journal of Medical Colleges of PLA(China)2012,27,5: | 1

The TaTCP4/10-B1 cascade regulates awn elongation in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)显示文摘Awns are important morphological markers for wheat and exert a strong physiological effect on wheat yield. The awn elongation suppressor B1 has recently been cloned through association and linkage analysis in wheat. However, the mechanism of awn inhibition centered around B1 remains to be clarified. Here,we identified an allelic variant in the coding region of B1 through analysis of re-sequencing data;this variant causes an amino acid substitution and premature termination, resulting in a long-awn phenotype.Transcriptome analysis indicated that B1 inhibited awn elongation by impeding cytokinin-and auxinpromoted cell division.Moreover,B1 directly repressed the expression of TaRAE2 and TaLks2,whose orthologs have been reported to promote awn development in rice or barley.More importantly,we found that TaTCP4 and TaTCP10 synergistically inhibited the expression of B1,and a G-to-A mutation in the B1 promoter attenuated its inhibition by TaTCP4/10.Taken together, our results reveal novel mechanisms of awn development and provide genetic resources for trait improvement in wheat. | Wensheng Ke Jiewen Xing Zhaoyan Chen Yidi Zhao Weiya Xu Lulu Tian Jinquan Guo Xiaoming Xie Dejie Du Zihao Wang Yufeng Li Jin Xu Mingming Xin Weilong Guo Zhaorong Hu Zhenqi Su Jie Liu Huiru Peng Yingyin Yao Qixin Sun Zhongfu Ni | 2023 | Plant Communications2023,4,4: | 0
Evolution of the serum resistance-associated SRA gene in African trypanosomes显示文摘Serum resistance-associated (SRA) protein, a protein unique for Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense, is responsible for resistance of this parasite to the lysis by normal human serum (NHS) and is a vital molecular marker to distinguish this species from other African trypanosomes. We cloned and sequenced the SRA basic copy (SRAbc) gene from T. b. rhodesiense and related species and found that this gene is confined to the subgenus Trypanozoon. The average 82% identity among the sequenced SRAbc genes indicates that they may have a common origin and are highly conserved. Since SRAbc coexists in the T. b. rhodesiense genome with SRA, we propose that SRAbc might be the 'donor VSG', which after duplication became inserted into the expression site by recombination. Under natural selection, SRAbc could reform into SRA following mosaic formation. | LAI DeHua WANG QiaoPing LI Zhi JULIUS Lukes LUN ZhaoRong | 2009 | Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,7: | 0
