2China’s urban expansion from 1990 to 2010 determined with satellite remote sensing显示文摘Based on the same data source of Landsat TM/ETM+ in 1990s,2000s and 2010s,all urban built-up areas in China are mapped mainly by human interpretation.Mapping results were checked and refined by the same analyst with the same set of criteria.The results show during the last 20 years urban areas in China have increased exponentially more than 2 times.The greatest area of urbanization changed from Northeastern provinces in 1990s to the Southeast coast of China in Jiangsu,Guangdong,Shandong,and Zhejiang in 2010s.Urban areas are mostly converted from croplands in China.Approximately 17750 km 2 croplands were converted into urban lands.Furthermore,the conversion from 2000 to 2010 doubled that from 1990 to 2000.During the 20 years,the most urbanized provinces are Jiangsu,Guangdong,Shandong and Zhejiang.We also analyzed built-up areas,gross domestic production (GDP) and population of 147 cities with a population of greater than 500000 in 2009.The result shows coastal cities and resource-based cities are with high economic efficiency per unit of built-up areas,resource-based cities have the highest population density,and the economic efficiency of most coastal provinces are lower than central provinces and Guangdong.The newly created urban expansion dataset is useful in many fields including trend analysis of urbanization in China;simulation of urban development dynamics;analysis of the relationship among urbanization,population growth and migration;studies of carbon emissions and climate change;adaptation of climate change;as well as land use and urban planning and management.WANG Lei LI CongCong YING Qing CHENG Xiao WANG XiaoYi LI XueYan HU LuanYun LIANG Lu YU Le HUANG HuaBing GONG Peng 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,22:64
3Distribution of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in surface water and sediments from Baiyangdian Lake in North China显示文摘Persistent organochlorine compounds,including hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs),dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were analyzed in surface water and sediments from Baiyangdian Lake,North China.Total concentrations of HCHs,DDTs and PCBs in surface water were in the range of 3.13-10.60,4.05-20.59 and 19.46-131.62 ng/L,respectively,and total concentrations of HCHs,DDTs and PCBs in sediments were 1.75-5.70,0.91-6.48 and 5.96-29.61 ng/g dry weight,respectively.Among the groups of HCHs (sum of α-HCH,β-HCH,γ-HCH and δ-HCH) and DDTs (sum of DDT,DDD and DDE),the predominance of β-HCH,DDE and DDD in water and sediment samples was clearly observed.This observation suggested that β-HCH was resistant to biodegradation and the DDTs had been transformed to its metabolites,DDE and DDD.For PCBs,penta-,hexa-and hepta-chlorinated congeners were the most abundant compounds in the both phases.Furthermore,the partitioning of chlorinated compounds between sediment and water was investigated to understand their transport and fates in aquatic ecosystems.The results indicated that average logs of organic carbon-normalized sediment-water partition coefficients (logK'oc) for OCPs varied between 3.20 and 5.53,and for PCBs,logK'oc values ranged from 3.19 to 5.57.The observed logK'oc was lower than their equilibrium logKoc predicted from linear model,which may be attributed to the solubility enhancement effect of colloidal matter in water phase and the disequilibrium between sediment and water.Guohua Dai Xinhui Liu Gang Liang Xu Han Liu Shi Dengmiao Cheng Wenwen Gong 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,10:44
4Granitic magmatism related to early Paleozoic continental collision in North Qinling显示文摘Zircon U-Pb dating of early Paleozoic granitoids in North Qinling yields three age peaks of^500,~452 and^420 Ma.They can be temporally correlated with high-pressure to ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism at ca.500 Ma,retrograde granulite-facies metamorphisms at ca.450 Ma and amphibolite-facies metamorphism at ca.420 Ma,respectively.The first episode of granitic magmatism is considered to have resulted from continental collision,whereas the second and third episodes of magmatism are attributed to crustal uplifting.Combined with the regional geological setting and new results from high-pressure and ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks,the ca.500 Ma magmatism is interpreted as the result of partial melting of sedimentary rocks in accretionary wedge between the south Qinling microcontinent and the north Qinling belt including the southern margin of the North China Craton.The ca.450 Ma intensive magmatism is ascribed to dehydration melting of deeply subducted continental crust at thickened conditions in response to slab breakoff,and the final magmatism in ca.420 Ma is interpreted as the product of partial melting during the tectonic transition from contraction to extension.ZHANG ChengLi LIU Liang WANG Tao WANG XiaoXia LI Lei GONG QiFu LI XiaoFei 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,35:30
5China's wetland change (1990-2000) determined by remote sensing显示文摘Two wetland maps for the entire China have been produced based on Landsat data acquired around 1990 and 2000. Wetlands in China have been divided into 3 broad categories with 15 sub-categories except rice fields. In 1990, the total wetland area in China was 355208 km2 whereas in 2000 it dropped to 304849 km2 with a net loss of 50360 km2. During an approximate 10-year period, inland wetland reduced from 318326 to 257922 km2, coastal wetland dropped from 14335 to 12015 km2, while artificial wetland increased from 22546 to 34911 km2. The greatest natural wetland loss occurred in Heilongjiang, Inner Mon- golia, and Jilin with a total loss of over 57000 km2 of wetland. In western China, over 13000 km2 of wetlands were newly formed in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Qinghai. About 12000 km2 of artificial wetlands were also added for fish farm and reservoir constructions. The newly formed wetlands in western China were caused primarily by climate warming over that region whereas the newly created artificial wetlands were caused by economic developments. 10Wilson disease: Identification of two novel mutations and clinical correlation in Eastern Chinese patients显示文摘AIM: To study mutations in the P-type ATPase (ATP7B) gene responsible for Wilson disease (WD) in the Eastern Chinese population, and the possible correlation of specific mutations with clinical characteristics. METHODS: Mutations of the ATP7B gene were sought by means of direct sequencing in 50 Eastern Chinese WD patients of Han ethnic origin. RESULTS: Two novel mutations, Asp96Gly and Asp196Glu, were first identified. We also compared the characterization of mutations in ATP7B with the clinical findings, and a significant correlation with hepatic manifestations between patients carrying the Arg778Leu mutation and those without was found. CONCLUSION: Gene sequencing analysis was shown to have a high detection rate and accuracy. 11Expression of phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase and effects of inhibitor Wortmannin on expression of tumor necrosis factor-α in severe acute pancreatitis associated with acute lung injury显示文摘BACKGROUND: Acute lung injury(ALI) is a common and serious complication of severe acute pancreatitis(SAP). The study aimed to investigate the protective effect and mechanism of phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase(PI3K) inhibitor Wortmannin in SAP associated with ALI.METHODS: Ninety rats were randomly divided into three groups: sham operation(SO) group(n=30), SAP group(n=30), and SAP+Wortmannin(SAP+W) group(n=30). SAP model was induced by retrograde injection of 4% sodium taurocholate into the biliopancreatic duct of rats. The rate of lung water content, myeloperoxidase(MPO), matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP-9), protein kinase B(PKB), abdphosphorylation of protein kinase B(P-PKB) activity in the lung tissue were evaluated.RESULTS: In the SAP group, the p-PKB expression in the lung tissue began to rise at 3 hours after modeling, and peaked at 12 hours(P<0.05); the rate of lung water content, MPO and TNF-α activity were also gradually increased, and the degree of lung lesion gradually increased(P<0.05). In the SAP+Wortmannin group, the p-PKB expression in the lung tissue began to rise at 3 hours after modeling, and peaked at 12 hours; it was higher than that in the SO group(P<0.05), but significantly lower than that in the SAP group(P<0.05). The rest indicators in the SAP+Wortmannin group were also significantly decreased as compared with the SAP group(P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS: The expression of phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase/protein kinase B was elevated in severe pancreatitis rats with lung injury. This suggested that PI3 K signal transduction pathway is involved in the control and release of proinfl ammatory cytokines TNF-α, which may play an important role in the pathogenesis of severe acute pancreatitis associated with lung injury. 13Effect of severe acute pancreatitis on pharmacokinetics of Da-Cheng-Qi Decoction components显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effect of severe acute pan- creatitis(SAP)on pharmacokinetics of Da-Cheng-Qi Decoction(DCQD)components in rats. METHODS:Rats were divided into SAP group and sham-operation group as a control group(n=6). Rhein,chrysophanol,rheochrysidin,magnolol,hesperidin and naringin in DCQD were quantified in rat serum by high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry for studying their pharmacokinetics. RESULTS:Early absorption of each DCQD component was tended to degrade in SAP group after treatment with DCQD by gavage.The Cmax(chrysophanol,P= 0.0059;rheochrysidin,P=0.0288;magnolol,P= 0.0487;hesperidin,P=0.0277;naringin,P=0.0023) and AUC(rhein,P=0.0186;chrysophanol,P=0.0013; magnolol,P=0.001;hesperidin,P=0.0081;naringin, P=0.0272)of DCQD component were obviously lower in SAP group than in control group.The T1/2α of chrysophanol and rheochrysidin(P=0.0467 and 0.0005,respectively)and Tmax of chrysophanol and rheochrysidin(P=0.0101 and 0.0037,respectively) lasted longer in SAP group than in control group. 14Geographical characteristics of China’s wetlands derived from remotely sensed data显示文摘In this paper, we report the first wetland mapping of the entire China using Landsat enhanced thematic mapper plus (ETM+) data. These data were obtained from the Global Land Cover Facility at the University of Maryland spanning from 1999 to 2002. A total of 597 scenes of Landsat images were georeferenced and mosaiced. Manual image interpretation of satellite images was aided with elevation data, soil data, land cover/land use data and Google Earth. The minimum mapping unit is 10 pixel × 10 pixel, equivalent to 9 ha. The aim of our first round of mapping was only targeted at the boundary delineation of any type of wetland except those wetlands that are under agricultural use (i.e., paddy fields), which has already been well mapped by others. Our interpretation results indicate that a total of 359478 km2 of wetlands are of non-agricultural use. Among our preliminarily mapped wetland, 339353 km2 are inland wetland, 2786 km2 are non-agricultural artificial wetland, and 17609 km2 are coastal wetland. Because low-tide is rarely captured in satellite images, an under-estimation of coastal wetland is inevitable. We conducted some statistics based on our mapped wetlands and compared them with those previously obtained from a number of sources including a land cover/land use map made with satellite images during the late 1990s and early 2000s, a marshland map developed in approximately the same period, survey data of coastal wetland in early 1980s, and area data for approximately 400 larger patches of marshland in China compiled in 1996. Because some inconsistencies exist in the guidelines of those different wetland surveys, difference in area is expected. Some further comparison indicates that the wetland distributions derived from the preliminary wetland map are reasonable and more objective than other sources. The mapping process also indicated that the method adopted by us was efficient and cost-effective. We also found that in order to ensure comparability of the wetland maps developed at different times, a set of standard guidelines on the wetland categories to be mapped, and the mapping methods to be used must be well conceived, developed and effectively employed. 15Effect of Soothing Gan(Liver) and Invigorating Pi(Spleen) Recipes on TLR4-p38 MAPK Pathway in Kupffer Cells of Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis Rats显示文摘Objective: To investigate the mechanism of inflammatory-mediated toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)-p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(p38 MAPK) pathway in Kupffer cells(KCs) of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) rats and the intervention effect of soothing Gan(Liver) and invigorating Pi(Spleen) recipes on this pathway. Methods: After 1 week of acclimatization, 120 Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into 8 groups using a random number table(n=15 per group): normal group, model group, low-dose Chaihu Shugan Powder(柴胡疏肝散, CHSG) group(3.2 g/kg), high-dose CHSG group(9.6 g/kg), low-dose Shenling Baizhu Powder(参苓白术散, SLBZ) group(10 g/kg), high-dose SLBZ(30 g/kg) group, and low-and highdose integrated recipe(L-IR, H-IR) groups. All rats in the model and treatment groups were fed with a high-fat diet(HFD). The treatments were administrated by gastrogavage once daily and lasted for 26 weeks. The liver tissues were detected with hematoxylin-eosin(HE) and oil red O staining. Levels of liver lipids, serum lipids and transaminases were measured. KCs were isolated from the livers of rats to evaluate the mRNA expressions of TLR4 and p38 MAPK by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and proteins expressions of TLR4, p-p38 MAPK and p38 MAPK by Western blot. Levels of inflammatory cytokines including tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α), interleukin(IL)-1 and IL-6 in KCs were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: After 26 weeks of HFD feeding, HE and oil red O staining showed that the NASH model rats successfully reproduced typical pathogenesis and histopathological features. Compared with the normal group, the model group exhibited significant increases in body weight, liver weight, liver index, serum levels of total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and aspartate aminotransferase as well as TC and TG levels in liver tissues, and significant decrease in serum level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(P<0.05 or P<0.01), while those indices were significantly ameliorated in the H-IR group(P<0.05 or P<0.01). Higher levels of TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6 in KCs were observed in the model group compared with the normal group(P<0.01). Significant decreases in TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6 were observed in the H-SLBZ, H-IR and L-IR groups compared with the model group(P<0.05 or P<0.01). The m RNA expressions of TLR4 and p38 MAPK and protein expressions of TLR4, p38 MAPK and p-p38 MAPK in KCs in the model group were significantly higher than the normal group(P<0.01), while those expression levels in the L-IR and H-IR groups were significantly lower than the model group(P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusions: Inflammation in KCs might play an important role in the pathogenesis of NASH in rats. 17Response of grain yield to plant density and nitrogen rate in spring maize hybrids released from 1970 to 2010 in Northeast China显示文摘The objective of this study was to identify the response of grain yield to plant density and nitrogen rate in spring maize hybrids released from 1970 to 2010 and grown extensively in Northeast China.Twenty-one hybrids were grown for 2 years in Northeast China at densities of 30,000,52,500,75,000,and 97,500 plants ha^(-1)and N application levels of 0,150,300,and 450 kg N ha^(-1).Irrespective of density or nitrogen application rate,grain yields both per plant and per unit area were significantly higher for newer than older hybrids.As plant density increased from 30,000 to 97,500 plant ha^(-1),yield per plant of 1970 s,1980 s,1990 s,and 2000 s hybrids decreased by 50%,45%,46%,and 52%,respectively.The response of grain yield per unit area to plant density was curvilinear.The estimated optimum plant densities were about 58,000,49,000,65,000,and 65,000 plants ha^(-1)for hybrids released in the 1970 s,1980s,1990 s,and 2000 s,respectively.The theoretical optimum densities for the hybrids released from the 1970 s to the 2000 s increased by 1750 plants ha^(-1)decade^(-1).Nitrogen fertilization significantly increased grain yields per plant and per unit area for all hybrids.The theoretical optimum N application rates for high yield for hybrids released in the 1970 s and 1980 s were about 280 and 360 kg ha^(-1),and the hybrids from the 1990 s and 2000 s showed highest yield at 330 kg ha^(-1)N.No significant difference in the grain yields of 2000 s hybrids between the N levels of 150 to 450 kg ha^(-1)was found.Significant yield gains per plant and per unit area were found,with average increases of 17.9 g plant^(-1)decade^(-1)and936 kg ha^(-1)decade^(-1)over the period 1970–2010,respectively.Yield gains were attributed mainly to increased yield per plant,contributed by increases in kernel number per ear and1000-kernel weight.The rates of lodging and barren plants of newer hybrids were significantly lower than those of older ones,especially at high plant density.Chunrong Qian Yang Yu Xiujie Gong Yubo Jiang Yang Zhao Zhongliang Yang Yubo Hao Liang Li Zhenwei Song Weijian Zhang 2016The Crop Journal2016,4,6:15
18High levels of serum interleukin-6 increase mortality of hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure显示文摘BACKGROUND Patients with hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure(HBVACLF)present a complex and poor prognosis.Systemic inflammation plays an important role in its pathogenesis,and interleukin-6(IL-6)as a pro-inflammatory cytokine is related with severe liver impairment and also plays a role in promoting liver regeneration.Whether serum IL-6 influences HBV-ACLF prognosis has not been studied.AIM To determine the impact of serum IL-6 on outcome of patients with HBV-ACLF.METHODS We performed a retrospective study of 412 HBV-ACLF patients.The findings were analyzed with regard to mortality and the serum IL-6 level at baseline,as well as dynamic changes of serum IL-6 within 4 wk.RESULTS The serum IL-6 level was associated with mortality.Within 4 wk,deceased patients had significantly higher levels of IL-6 at baseline than surviving patients[17.9(7.3-57.6)vs 10.4(4.7-22.3),P=0.011].Patients with high IL-6 levels(>11.8 pg/mL)had a higher mortality within 4 wk than those with low IL-6 levels(≤11.8 pg/mL)(24.2%vs 13.2%,P=0.004).The odds ratios calculated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression were 2.10(95%confidence interval[CI]:1.26-3.51,P=0.005)and 2.11(95%CI:1.15-3.90,P=0.017),respectively.The mortality between weeks 5 and 8 in patients with high IL-6 levels at 4 wk was 15.0%,which was significantly higher than the 6.6%mortality rate in patients with low IL-6 levels at 4 wk(hazard ratio=2.39,95%CI:1.05-5.41,P=0.037).The mortality was 5.0%in patients with high IL-6 levels at baseline and low IL-6 levels at 4 wk,7.5%in patients with low IL-6 levels both at baseline and at 4 wk,11.5%in patients with low IL-6 levels at baseline and high IL-6 levels at 4 wk,and 16.7%in patients with high IL-6 levels both at baseline and at 4 wk.The increasing trend of the mortality rate with the dynamic changes of IL-6 was significant(P for trend=0.023).CONCLUSION A high level of serum IL-6 is an independent risk factor for mortality in patients with HBV-ACLF.Furthermore,a sustained high level or dynamic elevated level of serum IL-6 indicates a higher mortality.Chao Zhou Ning Zhang Ting-Ting He Yao Wang Li-Fu Wang Yong-Qiang Sun Jing Jing Jing-Jing Zhang Shuang-Nan Fu Xuan Wang Xiao-Xiao Liang Xin Li Man Gong Jun Li 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,30:15
19Application of next-generation sequencing technology to precision medicine in cancer: joint consensus of the Tumor Biomarker Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology显示文摘Next-generation sequencing(NGS) technology is capable of sequencing millions or billions of DNA molecules simultaneously.Therefore, it represents a promising tool for the analysis of molecular targets for the initial diagnosis of disease, monitoring of disease progression, and identifying the mechanism of drug resistance. On behalf of the Tumor Biomarker Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology(CSCO) and the China Actionable Genome Consortium(CAGC), the present expert group hereby proposes advisory guidelines on clinical applications of NGS technology for the analysis of cancer driver genes for precision cancer therapy. This group comprises an assembly of laboratory cancer geneticists, clinical oncologists, bioinformaticians,pathologists, and other professionals. After multiple rounds of discussions and revisions, the expert group has reached a preliminary consensus on the need of NGS in clinical diagnosis, its regulation, and compliance standards in clinical sample collection. 20Bird watching in China reveals bird distribution changes显示文摘Using China Bird Report(2003-2007) as data source in combination with descriptions about bird habitats,we built up the China Bird Watching Database.We also developed spherical GIS software 'Global Analyst' to create the point-based database which contains accurate spatial-temporal information.The China Bird Watching Database can reflect the achievement of Chinese bird watchers and complement the basic knowledge of bird distribution.Now a total of 30936 records from 17 Orders,70 Families and 1078 Species of 5 years are included in the database,representing over 80% of all bird species in China.Till 2007,the geographic coverage has encompassed all provincial level administrative districts in China,with the exception of Hong Kong and Taiwan.The China Bird Watching Database also recorded a group of species which are additions at national and provincial levels,including 14 species which are additions to the national checklist and 109 species which appeared outside their original distributions.Comparing the new records with their original distributions,we found the trend that species move to higher latitude and higher elevation regions and some species of waterfowls in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,including a suite of rare seabirds in the China's Mainland.The majority of bird watchers come from the Eastern Region of China,but their covering range is spreading northwest.At the same time,we appeal to adopting a suite of new technologies for observation,and building up sharing platform of bird watching data to capture the distribution dynamics of birds in China and provide a direct foundation for bird conservation.LI XueYan LIANG Lu GONG Peng LIU Yang LIANG FeiFei 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,6:13
