| 1 | Chemical composition of PM_(2.5) during winter in Tianjin,China显示文摘PM2.5 samples for 24 h were collected during winter in Tianjin,China. The ambient mass concentration and chemical composition of the PM2.5 were determined. Ionic species were analyzed by ion chromatog-raphy,while carbonaceous species were determined with the IMPROVE thermal optical reectance(TOR) method,and inorganic elements were measured by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spec-trometer. The daily PM2.5 mass concentrations ranged from 48.2 to 319.2 g/m3 with an arithmetic average of 144.6 g/m3. The elevated PM2.5 in winter was mostly attributed to combustion sources such as vehicle exhaust,heating,cooking and industrial emissions,low wind speeds and high relative humidity(RH) ,which were favorable for pollutant accumulation and formation of secondary pollutants. By chem-ical mass balance,it was estimated that about 89.1% of the PM2.5 mass concentrations were explained by carbonaceous species,secondary particles,crustal matters,sea salt and trace elements. Organic material was the largest contributor,accounting for about 32.7% of the total PM2.5 mass concentrations. | 2 | GYY4137 protects against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury by attenuating oxidative stress and apoptosis in rats显示文摘Hydrogen sulfide(H_2S) is a gasotransmitter that regulates cardiovascular functions.The present study aimed to determine the protective effect of slow-releasing H_2S donor GYY4137 on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion(I/R) injury and to investigate the possible signaling mechanisms involved.Male Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with GYY4137 at 12.5 mg/(kg·day),25 mg/(kg·day) or 50 mg/(kg·day) intraperitoneally for7 days.Then,rats were subjected to 30 minutes of left anterior descending coronary artery occlusion followed by reperfusion for 24 hours.We found that GYY4137 increased the cardiac ejection fraction and fractional shortening,reduced the ischemia area,alleviated histological injury and decreased plasma creatine kinase after myocardial I/R.Both H_2S concentration in plasma and cystathionine-γ-lyase(CSE) activity in the myocardium were enhanced in the GYY4137 treated groups.GYY4137 also decreased malondialdehyde and myeloperoxidase levels in serum,attenuated superoxide anion level and suppressed phosphorylation of mitogen activated protein kinases in the myocardium after I/R.Meanwhile,GYY4137 increased the expression of Bcl-2 but decreased the expression of Bax,caspase-3 activity and apoptosis in the myocardium.The data suggest that GYY4137 protects against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury by attenuating oxidative stress and apoptosis. | Guoliang Meng Jing Wang Yujiao Xiao Wenli Bai Liping Xie Liyang Shan Philip K Moore Yong Ji | 2015 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,3: | 18 |
| 3 | Comparison between TVDI and CWSI for drought monitoring in the Guanzhong Plain,China显示文摘Temperature vegetation dryness index(TVDI) and crop water stress index(CWSI) are two commonly used remote sensing-based agricultural drought indicators. This study explored the applicability of monthly moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS) normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) and land surface temperature(LST) data for agricultural drought monitoring in the Guanzhong Plain,China in 2003. The data were processed using TVDI,calculated by parameterizing the relationship between the MODIS NDVI and LST data. We compared the effectiveness of TVDI against CWSI,derived from the MOD16 products,for drought monitoring. In addition,the surface soil moisture and monthly precipitation were collected and used for verification of the results. Results from the study showed that:(1) drought conditions measured by TVDI and CWSI had a number of similarities,which indicated that both CWSI and TVDI can be used for drought monitoring,although they had some discrepancies in the spatiotemporal characteristics of drought intensity of this region; and(2) both standardized precipitation index(SPI) and SM contents at the depth of 10 and 20 cm had better correlations to CWSI than to TVDI,indicating that there were more statistically significant relationships between CWSI and SPI/SM,and that CWSI is a more reliable indicator for assessing and monitoring droughts in this region. | BAI Jian-jun YU Yuan Liping Di | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,2: | 10 |

| 5 | Regression model to estimate flood impact on corn yield using MODIS NDVI and USDA cropland data layer显示文摘Flood events and their impact on crops are extremely significant scientific research issues; however,flood monitoring is an exceedingly complicated process. Flood damages on crops are directly related to yield change,which requires accurate assessment to quantify the damages. Various remote sensing products and indices have been used in the past for this purpose. This paper utilizes the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS) weekly normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) product to detect and further quantify flood damages on corn within the major corn producing states in the Midwest region of the US. County-level analyses were performed by taking weighted average of all pure corn pixels(>90%) masked by the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA) Cropland Data Layer(CDL). The NDVI-based time-series difference between flood years and normal year(median of years 2000–2014) was used to detect flood occurrences. To further measure the impact of the flood on corn yield,regression analysis between change in NDVI and change in corn yield as independent and dependent variables respectively was performed for 30 different flooding events within growing seasons of the corn. With the R2 value of 0.85,the model indicates statistically significant linear relation between the NDVI and corn yield. Testing the predictability of the model with 10 new cases,the average relative error of the model was only 4.47%. Furthermore,small error(4.8%) of leave-one-out cross validation(LOOCV) along with smaller statistical error indicators(root mean square error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),and mean bias error(MBE)),further validated the accuracy of the model. Utilizing the linear regression approach,change in NDVI during the growing season of corn appeared to be a good indicator to quantify the yield loss due to flood. | 8 | Enhancement of transfection efficiency for HeLa cells via incorporating arginine moiety into chitosan显示文摘Arginine-rich peptides have attracted considerable attention due to their distinct internalization mechanism. It was reported that arginine and guanidino moieties were able to translocate through cell membranes and played a critical role in the process of membrane permeation. In this work, arginine was conjugated to the backbone of chitosan to form a novel chitosan derivative, arginine modified chitosan (Arg-CS). Arg-CS/DNA complexes were prepared according to the method of coacervation process. The physicochemical properties of Arg-CS and Arg-CS/DNA complexes were characterized and the transfection activity and efficiency mediated by Arg-CS/DNA complexes were investigated taking HeLa cells as target cells. Arg-CS was characterized by FTIR and 13C NMR. Arg-CS/DNA polye- lectrolyte complexes were investigated by agarose gel retardation, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results revealed that the Arg-CS/DNA complexes started to form at N/P ratio of 2:1, and the size of particles varied from 100 to 180 nm. The cytotoxicity of Arg-CS and their complexes with plasmid DNA were determined by MTT assay for HeLa cells, and the results suggested that Arg-CS/DNA complexes were slightly less toxic than Arg-CS. Moreover, the derivative alone and their complexes showed significantly lower toxicity than PEI and PEI/DNA complexes, respectively. Taking HeLa cells as target cells and using pGL3-control as reporter gene, the luciferase expression mediated by Arg-CS was greatly enhanced to about 100 folds compared with the luciferase expression mediated by chitosan at different pH media. | 10 | RF-CLASS: A remote-sensing-based flood crop loss assessment cyber-service system for supporting crop statistics and insurance decision-making显示文摘Floods often cause significant crop loss in the United States. Timely and objective information on flood-related crop loss,such as flooded acreage and degree of crop damage,is very important for crop monitoring and risk management in agricultural and disaster-related decision-making at many concerned agencies. Currently concerned agencies mostly rely on field surveys to obtain crop loss information and compensate farmers' loss claim. Such methods are expensive,labor intensive,and time consumptive,especially for a large flood that affects a large geographic area. The results from such methods suffer from inaccuracy,subjectiveness,untimeliness,and lack of reproducibility. Recent studies have demonstrated that Earth observation(EO) data could be used in post-flood crop loss assessment for a large geographic area objectively,timely,accurately,and cost effectively. However,there is no operational decision support system,which employs such EO-based data and algorithms for operational flood-related crop decision-making. This paper describes the development of an EO-based flood crop loss assessment cyber-service system,RF-CLASS,for supporting flood-related crop statistics and insurance decision-making. Based on the service-orientated architecture,RF-CLASS has been implemented with open interoperability specifications to facilitate the interoperability with EO data systems,particularly the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) Earth Observing System Data and Information System(EOSDIS),for automatically fetching the input data from the data systems. Validated EO algorithms have been implemented as web services in the system to operationally produce a set of flood-related products from EO data,such as flood frequency,flooded acreage,and degree of crop damage,for supporting decision-making in flood statistics and flood crop insurance policy. The system leverages recent advances in the remote sensing-based flood monitoring and assessment,the near-real-time availability of EO data,the service-oriented architecture,geospatial interoperability standards,and the standard-based geospatial web service technology. The prototypical system has automatically generated the flood crop loss products and demonstrated the feasibility of using such products to improve the agricultural decision-making. | 14 | Serum trimethylamine-N-oxide and gut microbiome alterations are associated with cholesterol deposition in the liver of laying hens fed with rapeseed meal显示文摘Sinapine derived from cruciferous plants could be converted into trimethylamine by intestinal microbiota.Its metabolite,trimethylamine N-oxide(TMAO),is closely linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease and fat deposition in mammals.Hens fed with rapeseed meal(RSM)suffered from fatty liver hemorrhage syndrome(FLHS).This study was conducted to investigate whether RSM-induced fatty liver is due to TMAO via altering microbiota composition and diversity.At 33 weeks of age,600 laying hens were randomly divided into 5 treatment groups,namely control and 14%RSM treatment groups(DY5,with 16.2% erucic acid [EA]and 74.66% glucosinolate[Gl]contents;MB1,with 3.50% EA and 43.23 %Gl contents;DY6,with 6.7% EA and 22.67% Gl contents;XH3,with 44.60% EA and 132.83% Gl contents)for 8 weeks.Results revealed that 3 hens died due to liver hemorrhage after ingesting 14% RSM diet.The 14% RSM decreased serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)content(P<0.01)while tended to increase serum TMAO content compared to the control group(P=0.08).The 14% RSM diet increased red oil O optical density(P<0.01),and increased total cholesterol(TC)and LDL-C content in the liver(P<0.01,and P<0.01,respectively).The 14%RSM decreased liver total bile acid(TBA)content compared to the control(P<0.01).The DY6 had a higher TBA content in the liver than the XH3(P<0.01).The 14%RSM decreased mRNA abundance of liver X receptors alpha(LXR-α,P=0.01),and increased mRNA abundance of sterol response element binding protein 2(SREBP-2,P=0.04).Results revealed that the in-feed RSM could alter richness and diversity of cecal microbiota compared to the control(P<0.05).Liver TC content and serum TMAO showed a negative relationship with Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria(P=0.04).In conclusion,14%RSM increased liver TC and induced high liver score of FLHS,which was possibly associated with the altered cecal microbiota composition,increased serum TMAO levels and LXR-αand SREBP-2 expressions. | Liping Zhu Jianping Wang Xuemei Ding Shiping Bai Qiufeng Zeng Yue Xuan Gregory S.Fraley Keying Zhang | 2021 | Animal Nutrition2021,,4: | 2 |
| 15 | Pattern characteristics in patients with primary liver cancer in different clinical stages显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To explore the characteristics of primary liver cancer in terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) by analyzing the variations of the patterns along with the clinical stages.METHODS: The patients who were hospitalized in the Changhai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine dated from March 1999 to December 2008 were included in this retrospective study. The patients were grouped according to their cancer stages, and their patterns were judged and quantified according to the 'Standard diagnosis and quantitative criteria of the common patterns in primary liv-er cancer' formulated by the Changhai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Statistics methods included ANOVA and nonparametric test, among others.RESULTS: The data of the 398 newly diagnosed patients showed that Qi Stagnation, Blood Stasis, and Dampness patterns were more frequent than the other basic patterns with relatively high scores; patterns of Liver Qi Stagnation, Liver Blood Stasis, and Dampness Heat were more than the other complex patterns and scored relatively high. Scores of Dampness and Liver Qi Stagnation patterns varied among the groups at different stages and the differences were statistically significant(PDampness= 0.002,PLiver Qi Stagnation= 0.020). The highest scores of Dampness pattern and Liver Qi Stagnation pattern corresponded with Stage Ⅲb, and Stage equency wⅢ a, respectively.
